    I would give it an excellent seal for sure. I've been playing it with my daughter who's 6 years old (7 in May) and she loves it, she's mentioned already it's her favorite game now. She likes to play with the unicorn hedgehog boss standee for a hero. So highly recommend from me. The production quality is amazing, a neat small box and high quality components, great artwork also. Very pleased with how this turned out, thanks a lot Cora and Dan!

    Even if it wasn't drawn by children (and it's suuupppeeerr cool that it is!), I absolutely love the aesthetic of the art. It's just nice to see something so whimsical and happy, not dark or gritty or edgy. It's refreshing!

      Actually what makes it very fun looking is the artworks.

    Game of the year for me! Finally a game I actually want to play with my 7 year old. Just nothing else in this space to connect my girls to some of our dungeon crawls. Between the art, price and style it’s in a class of its own.

    You didn't mention the stellar custom hero web app. My kids have been having a blast making their own characters and taking them into the dungeon. (6yo and 8yo)

    Heck, I am turning 50 this year and mostly play games with my 16 and 14 year old. We just got our copy and played it last weekend. I came away pretty danged impressed with this one!

    Some people might get the impression that your kid needs to be 7-8 to play this game. If your kids want to play this on their own, without an adult. Yes, Tom is totally right, they probably need to be 8+ or 9+. However, you can play this with younger kids if you manage some aspects of the game. I play this with my 4,5 year old kid and he understands most concepts of this game in a broad way: Adding Dungeon Tiles - How much damage you need to do to kill a monster - keeping track of their health - the story - looting treasure - The functionality of the "Super Powers" - the number of dice that you can throw - movement. Sure, some things go over his head, for example: number of actions, it's confusing cause there are also free actions, the countdown timer of the spiders/superpowers, line of sight. But that's.... about it. It's not something you as a adult player cant keep track of for the kid. We really have a great time and it would be sad if you let it collect dust until your kid is able to grasp every little detail of the game. They will pick up a lot from this game.

      I fell like this is what I said?

    • @willemjanwellens
      @willemjanwellens 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thedicetower Yes, you totally did. But while scrolling through the comments I noticed that some people are going to shelve this game because their kid is only 5. So I wanted to stress that this has been one of the best gaming experiences for my 4,5 year old, despite him not understanding the more advanced rules. And I believe that some aspects of the game: story, game length, counting hp and many rules are catered to a low age. Especially if you compare Coraquest 6+ with Mice and Mystics 7+. I don't think Mice and Mystics is playable with my 4,5 year old, at all.

    I’m definitely an outlier, but I’m an adult and been enjoying the game by myself! I’m finding I don’t have the mental energy to deal with a large set up and a lot of little pieces. This game is simple and fast enough for mini breaks. But I definitely look forward to playing with other kids, big or small!

      My husband and I enjoy playing CoraQuest as a couple - he's not really a hobby gamer, but does like playing tabletop games with me, and he has asked me to play this with him every week since our copy arrived! Disclaimer - I was involved with the proof reading of the game pre-publication, but that isn't the main reason my husband asks to play it with me - he asks because he is having as much fun exploring the dungeon, and battling the enemies as we enjoy the quests, as I am!

    This has been an amazing game at my house with my 10 year old. It is his favorite game for sure! I think the art and the story really hit the intended age group well. Well done Cora and Dan!!

    I prefer simple dungeon games like this. Adult games can be too complicated and bore me. I am an adult of course. I understand Bloodbowl but not Warhammer or WH40k.

    Nice review! Taking a child's art and re-vamping it is actually an exercise I have seen recommended for illustrators, and I agree it was a fabulous method of producing the art for this game. Cora, Dan, and Gary did a terrific job with this game. I truly hope there will be an expansion at some point. :-)

    Nice to see Jimmy being involved. My 7 year old probably could play this fine but she has been brought up playing games when the inclination takes her and she asked for and got Wingspan for Xmas. Whenever I have talked about coops she has said "why would I want to be in the same team as you?". Looks a great game for many children of gamers to enjoy with their gamer parents

    I disagree adults won't enjoy it, I've only played with people from my games group and we really enjoyed it! Yes we do play heavy games too, but this relaxing and really good fun for any age. Love the art.

    This is a common question: Which game to get for my kids?
    There are a few very good kids games released lately:
    Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower, Andor the family fantasy game, Chronicles of Avel, CoraQuest, and The Quest Kids
    According to BGG rating (and their age group as per community):
    1 Coraquest 6+
    2 Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower 8+
    3 Chronicles of Avel 6+
    4 The Quest Kids 3+
    5 Andor the family fantasy game 5+
    Of the 5, the only 1 I own is CoraQuest. It is as good as they say it is. I would argue it is the most play tested by kids out of the bunch, since kids (including the designer's own daughter) was heavily involved in its design. Other than kids, I was also able to play this with adults who has never dungeon crawled before, and they all got it in a few minutes. So this can potentially also be used as a gateway game to start an adult dungeon crawl group, before you start playing Gloomhaven and others.
    The other games also looks good from the reviews I watched. It just depends on your kids and their age. I cannot speak more about them because I haven't play them.

    Not often I agree with your reviews but already appreciate your input on games. On this one I agree. A great family game but I think my kids would struggle on their own. Even setting up the deck of dungeon cards is a bit tricky for small kids.

    Thanks for showing how you share your hobby with those you love Tom. It’s always a pleasure to see your kids join you because I think all of us as parents are proud when we get to spend quality time with our littlies and when we see others doing the same it reminds us of good times with our own!

    This or stuffed fables?

    • @swillsswil4817
      @swillsswil4817 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I have both and I would say it depends on how developed of a gamer the kid is. Stuffed Fables is a slightly heavier game with multiple special abilities and types of dice to keep track of, and is a bit harder as well.

    • @gabtrat9091
      @gabtrat9091 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends how complex of a game you want. I've heard of a lot of people who liked Stuffed Fables but it was too fiddly for my kids. I felt like I was managing the game more than having fun, so I expect CQ to fit us better.

    Played it with my 7 year old so far. Will play with my 10 year old later on. The 13 year old was not very interested. Haha, maybe in the future they will play by themself after a couple of rounds. Most of the time when they play games by them self they make up the rules as they play - and they have a blast.
