If a teenager gives something a "it was ok" review it's actually a raving review 😄

This is a common question: Which game to get for my kids?
There are a few very good kids games released lately:
Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower, Andor the family fantasy game, Chronicles of Avel, CoraQuest, and The Quest Kids
According to BGG rating (and their age group as per community):
    1 Coraquest 6+
    2 Adventure Tactics: Domianne's Tower 8+
    3 Chronicles of Avel 6+
    4 The Quest Kids 3+
5 Andor the family fantasy game 5+
Of the 5, the only 1 I own is CoraQuest. It is as good as they say it is. I would argue it is the most play tested by kids out of the bunch, since kids (including the designer's own daughter) was heavily involved in its design. Other than kids, I was also able to play this with adults who has never dungeon crawled before, and they all got it in a few minutes. So this can potentially also be used as a gateway game to start an adult dungeon crawl group, before you start playing Gloomhaven and others.
The other games also looks good from the reviews I watched. It just depends on your kids and their age. I cannot speak more about them because I haven't play them.

As an old school D&D type looking to bring my own daughters into gaming, I was very excited when I found this game. The backpack and equipment mechanic in particular really seemed to add some dynamic game play you don't typically see at this age level. That being said, after a great deal of anticipation and learning, we played it... once. It's hard to articulate why we haven't wanted to play it again, but I think it's because it's so combat-focused without any kind of story telling, and as your daughters mentioned, the respawning is really demoralizing. Takes any of the oomph out of victories. Oh well, onto the next round of rabid googling for alternatives.

This is one of the few times I really do not understand why they didn't use clear plastic over cardboard. Here, color your own character, be creative...now cover it up so you can't see it.

That's an awesome idea and I wouldn't have thought of it.

I like the family reviews. They are very genuine, and that's what matters to me the most. The kids also are getting better at it.
Also, I bought this to play with my niece, so we played a game with my brother to test it first and I ended up hating it.
I confused the teal dice with the green dice and ended up with a lot of useless rolls that did nothing because the teal dice have a lot of shields. The number of turns you do in this game is limited so you need to do damage and kill things to do your preparations. There is no time to be defensive and shield attacks but you do need to build a wall. We didn't build walls because we just wanted to kill monsters and gear up and kill more monsters but that is not allowed. The monsters respawn really fast and if you have no walls you loose right away.
Looking back a lot of what happened was my fault and I should give the game another chance but I never liked these dice chugging games in the first place. I just wanted something simple to play with my niece but I had such a negative experience that I will probably never play this again. I don't know how long we were playing but it felt like an eternity. The art and components are very nice though.

I have one advice for you - try playing with max characters (4), even if there are less persons actually playing. If so, one person should play with 2characters, if there are 3 persons, or 2 persons should play with 2characters, if there are just 2 persons actually playing the game. It gives big advantage, because you have one or even two extra characters to do things in game - exploring the board, gaining gold, upgrading items. So even if finally you have less time (less rounds) to prepare for the coming of the main boss - having an opportunity to do more things is a game changer. I play very often with kids - max 3 persons. No looses so far, but we always play with max characters. Sorry for my English. I'm Pole, and i'm still learning English. I hope my advice will help you.

This entire video was good, but the ending "what's the moral of the story? Listen to your father..." and the "Build walls" made it.

Was the physical backpack mechanic explained and highlighted at all it did I miss it? Very unique and cool part of the game.

Ruby & Violet, Do you have a favorite from CoraQuest, Avel, Karak, etc.? Or have you outgrown them all by now? What are your favorite adventure games now?

We have Karak and my wife and two kids (ages 6 and 8) absolutely love it. I was looking for a “my first dungeon crawler” for the kids and this one passed with flying colors. Highly recommended.

We play this with an adults only group very frequently. It's simple, quick to play and with enough depth to it to make meaningful decisions. Recently I bought Horrified as well to have an extra game that fills in that space. And I like them about equally, to be honest. Though I'd say Chronicles wins in the originality department in terms of mechanics.

My kids (8 & 5,5) really love the game. It's a great entry game into more complex or abstract deck building games.
For experienced gamers it's more fun and probably not difficult.
It's got a great story of what the monsters are doing, but this does not make the game difficult: kill the monsters is always a good option (and build walls 😂)
    Thnx for the review!

"Listen to your father"..... LOL... Love it..... But yes, we really enjoyed this one, especially with the mini-expanssion that gives you "boots" and animal companions.... Super fun. Love the family reviews.

I got this game as a birthday gift for my daughter who turned 7, and she loves it. We had a great time playing together. The dice combat is pretty neat I'd say, with mitigation options on the gear you get. Also the price point is very good, I was surprised how good the components are for how much the game costs. All in all definitely recommended, but mostly for kids I'd say, although you can crank up the difficulty which I might try by myself to see how it's like.

Getting comments from the Vasel girls is like hauling up an anchor, slow and strenuous.

I think it depends on the question. I know adults who take longer to answer to the point I already start doing something else and end up confused when they respond.
