Lost a screw and it took 2 hours all told but overall the procedure seems to have worked! Probably faster if you're not as careful but I decided to go for the careful route the whole way.
how was the soldering part ? is it hard ?
this kind of "design" to hide the battery so deep in the device, should be banned by law.. it's criminal to force users to go though this sh*t.. and I'm an apple fanboy by the way

Holy smokes. I can't believe that Apple designed something that requires such effort just to replace a damn battery. Well, I can believe it but it still pisses me off.
Agreed. I curse Apple for their idiotic design principles. I would have bought a new iPod but they changed the port on the new ones, rendering all my speakers, docks and other accessories useless. So eff that, I'm fixing my old one.
I refuse to buy an iPhone too because of their stupid design. No micro sd slot and no way to easily change the battery. They design for aesthetics, not repairability, but most people put them in cases so you can't even see the sleek design that they strived to achieve. So what's the point? To win design awards? Whatever.
+ReDact45 This, of course, is intentional on Apple's part. It's designed to discourage most people from even attempting the most mundane repairs i.e. battery replacement. It has been a part of their design philosophy from the beginning & shame on them for doing this, another source of revenue generation. And I'm an Apple guy, they make great products, they'd be even greater if not for this.

do you need a solder to do the soldering or can you do it by just using the iron?
I thing just using the iron would be safer.
With the heat gun, how much heat you must apply?
For about 1 minute first, but apply more as needed
Can you use a regular hair dryer on hot, if I can for how long?

Hey,
When I plug in my dead ipod touch, it will boot up for a while, but while still booting up the screen will go black and it will crash or something, then go back to the charging screen, and finally start booting again. I don't think it's bricked because it's not in a restart cycle. I'm wondering if my problem is the battery, or a hardware problem.

If you get the same problem as me where the battery corrodes and starts leaking, causing the internal lithium electrolyte in the battery to oxidize. It slowly kills the battery life and gives off a sweet fruit smell.
