This video was my "go to" guide for replacing the broken screen on my daughter's iPod Touch. I did everything exactly as shown and described. The screen wouldn't come on, so I hooked it up to the computer/charger and it booted right up! You saved me $75! Thanks for a great video, Jorge, and especially for your thorough verbal description of exactly what you're doing each step of the way. It is very helpful to have both a quality video and quality narration in one place.
Oh man! You saved me $$$. I had an old iPod with a broken screen that I had forgotten about. I watched your video and it seemed easy enough so I purchased the screen and came back to your video and followed each step. iPod works again! Thanks!
It took me a LOT longer than 20 mins but these instructions were spot on. Best advice I could give is take it slow and make sure you know what to do at each step BEFORE you do it! Thanks a lot Jorge.
Excellent job making the video. My daughter's fell out of her pocket and the screen broke. She saved all Summer to buy it and was very sad to say the least. After watching your video, I feel confident enough to give it a try. I plan to order a kit, sneak her broken one and fix it. Then I'll think of a cool way to surprise her. Anyway, thanks again for sharing this.
OH MY GOODNESS I am not good at this stuff never done it before. Bought the kit and did every step that you did and thank God and you it worked. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. We have 3 that are broke so you know how much money this has saved me. Twenty bucks for the kit and I INSTALLED IT. The only thing I couldn't do is the metal around he home key I could not find but I think it may have fell out before and was missing but works perfectly. Did I say thank you, well thank you.
This is the definitive tutorial to replace a iTouch 4th Gen screen and digitizer. It's 100% fail proof only if you follow Jorge's instructions all the way. This was my first repair and it went flawlessly. Great walkthrough Jorge!
I got a new screen and installed it exactly as he said to do it but when impress the power button the screen stays black and doesn't turn on. Help me!!!!
I am a housewife and I had fix my son iPod touch by watching your TH-cam program, thanks and you won't believe it that I had the same white screen with the black button
Do I actually need the metal bracket to hold the screen because I do not have one, but everything else works fine. I'm just scared to put it back on if I actually do need it. Please reply quick. Thank you for your time.
Worked out exactly as you showed it thanks a lot. Only question is the adhesive on the metal bracket will no longer stick and I don't have any adhesive. Should I get some to apply to it or what do you recommend be added to it?
And the copper tape at the digitizer caple is there for grounding the top digitizer cable, if you get a esd schok on it and it jumps over to the back off the cable you have to replace the screen and capacitive ic again. The c ic (capacitive ic) is a bga (surface mounted) solder work. The schock can even jump over when everything is closed since the back is from metal
followed your video step by step and everything went perfect!! EXCEPT... When I tried to connect the digitizer to snap in place still cant get it any ideas as to why I cant get it connected??
What if i don't have the metal plate you put on the new screen from the old one ? Do i absolutely need it ? Or do you know where i can get it replaced ?
Also when you fix it will it mess up the data inside the I-pod? Because I have flappy bird that's off stores and I have pictures that are important to me.
As for the home button, you may need to find a thin piece of plastic and wedge it in between the plastic home button and the actual contact that it pushes down onto inside the device. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what could be wrong. Is your device displaying a blank white screen?
Thanks for the excellent, detailed instructions. Didn't take me 20 minutes (more like an hour and half), but took my time and fixed my iPod for less than $15.
So I followed instructions on your video, got to the end turned it on and it worked. Don't know what happened but screen turned white but you could still see picture on screen vaguely with a black dot and touch screen isn't working. Any suggestions?
hi. I just started replacing my screen and I think I ripped the wifi antenna like you said not to do. How do you know for sure if you ripped it and should I bother to keep going through the process or did I wreck my ipod?
Great repair video. I followed all the steps and was very careful. I can't get the ipod to power on. Nothing looks damaged. New screen is likely good because I plugged the old cracked screen back in and still no power whatsoever. Tried plugging in the ipod for a few hours and nothing still. Tried your suggestions in the description with no success. Any thing I might be missing? Much appreciated.
I haven't seen your video but from the comments it looks like it's a excellent video. I have one question though. I lost the metal plate that goes on the top screen. I was wondering if I replaced the badly broken screen would the new screen still fit or would there be problems?
Hi Jorge - HELP! I followed every step meticulously, replaced the cracked screen, but iPod does not turn on. I have tried pressing the on switch and home button simultaneously. I have tried plugging in the iPod to be sure it has charge, but nothing. Do you have any ideas? Only thing that may have gone wrong is that I did mistakenly touch the center of the iPod for a split second with the metal tool I was using, and a faint puff of smoke appeared. Could I have burnt it out? Thank you!
Hello sir! While attempting to fix my cracked screen, i might've screwed up the logic board but i cant tell for sure. I can see alittle aadhesive lifted from the logic board, almost hanging down but still stuck to it. And the left margin of the logic board keeps lifting up when i push it down. So did i break it? And if so what can i do to fix it? please help!
I did (and re-did) all the process of the video, but when I turn the screen on it does not work (the charging sound continues appearing). I don't know if the last LCD cable is connected properly but I am pretty sure the digitiser cable is connected. Is there any more step I must have made a mistake? Thanks for the attention.
I have an I touch someone gave me im not sure if its a 4 or 5 gen its very slim and has a chrome backing and white front. The screen is cracked but not bad. The problem is wen its not used for a while it lights up sometimes for 3 seconds sometimes 8 at the most maybe 15-20 seconds is how long it will stay lit. It looks like it BARELY cracked could there be ANY possible way to fix it without replacing the screen? I can stilll use it but have to squint it lights up VERY DIMLY and all features work
i cant fully apply the screen without this vertical white line in the leftest side appearing. Its not there unless i apply a bit of pressure when i go to press it into the shell, i cant use adhesive strips to set it in without it popping up. Is there anyway to fix this?
I installed everything like you said, and I received the white screen. I looked at the description and followed what to do if I had the white screen. The logo popped up, and I began going through everything to make sure it was all there. Everything seemed to be there except when I looked under all of my pictures. They are gone! All the albums are there though. Also my 2 backgrounds are the same pictures that I had under my camera roll. I had over 5,000 pictures and now they are all gone! Has this ever happened, and what should I do?
I do not have an iPhone and I've never had a device with water damage, but if everything else is working, I would think that you may be able to replace the screen and digitizer so that that touchscreen functions.
Hi there i just did this screen replacement today , bought it on ebay. now the screen turned on but the battery was running out so i couldn't unlock it of course because it wasn't an option , now , i put it back together but there seems to be a issue , the top of the screen and the bottom of the screen do not sense touch , or for example APPS on the top of the screen aren't click-able and neither are APPS or keys on the bottom , i struggled to just unlock it , I assume its a faulty screen or could the plug have disconnected?
Great video. But I had a black screen after I plugged in the digitizer cable. It wouldn't turn on and even when I attempted to charge it no difference. Is there any way you could help me?
The iPods frame may be bent or warped around that area or you may still have some of the old adhesive in the edges. You can try heating it up and removing as much of the old adhesive as possible.
Hi. This worked but my screen will not fit to my iPod's frame. I think this is because the frame is dented from when i dropped it. If it is possible for you the help me that would be great!
My wife dropped her Apple iPod Touch from about a foot off the ground and yes, the screen shattered. I decided to fix it myself for under $25 and I also made a quick video for those of you who may be thinking of replacing the screen yourself to save some money. Let me know what you think. Thanks!
andrea mitchell Just Shut The Fuck Up. Apparently your dumbass did something wrong. This man posted a video to help and you're just dissing all of it. Just shut the hell up and get a fucking life!!!!!!!
My ipod was broken already with a couple pieces from the top right corner missing, when my mom spilled water on it. It was completely submerged for maybe five minutes before she realized. My ipod has been in rice for three days, but the screen won't work at all. It still makes screenshot noises and charging noises, but the screen remains black. If I were to do this repair, would I have a working screen again? My ipod is far beyond the warranty anyways.
Hello, I tried to follow your guide and I must say that I did everything to perfection step by step, but unfortunately when I press the power button screen appears completely white. Same thing happens if I attack the old broken lcd with touch cut the cable.
Are you referring to the black hard plastic that goes around the whole edge? Mine was stuck to the cover, therefore I left it in place. If yours is damaged, you may want to purchase a new one.
So I wanted to post because I noticed a lot of people are having a "white screen" problem after this repair. First off I had this problem after following this video. I am a repairer I repair all kinds of things from tablets to phones to cars. Pretty much anything. I haven't repaired an ipod 4th gen yet so that is why I watched the video. Its very important to see where the cables are and which are connected to the digitizer. These videos are a guide. Ipods like most things have a reset sequence. Meaning say you have a bad screen then change the screen but the ipod remember hey I had a bad screen. So you need to reset. Long and short of it if you have a white screen hold down the power button and the home button it should then show the apple logo and boot up. This video was actually good as it shows where you need to be most careful. However my only "nitpick" would be some replacement screens come with everything already attached so you don't need to remove the home button or the metal plate. Good job Jorge Lopez thanks!
poemranger Thanks for the great comment. I noticed people had the white screen issue after I uploaded my video so I added info on how to reset it in the video description. 😊
I looked through the comments to see if u replied to anyone that had the problem. I didn't find the solution so I looked at other videos. Since this video helped and I noticed u didn't respond I did. And now it's posted in the comments. I never read the read the description it never crossed my mind.
I did everything exactly what you did but i can't put it on... Is there a problem with the cables ? PS: the WiFi cable is a little bit torn but it's still one piece. Is this a problem too or should it work ?
I have a question I have a iPod 4 th generation and I was wondering if u know y my iPod sometimes wants to charge and sometimes it doesn't its not a big deal bc in the summer I prob will get a new one but my iPod has to last until than
no it cannot be fixed. The ribbon is very delicate it has to read a massive amount of sensors even a little damage can completely destroy or render partially useless.
Make sure you home button is on the pins of he screen if not it might be placement. Make sure the electronics under the home button are still in proper place. See the video for reference.
i did everything as you said and my screen worked before i went to attech the adhesive pads, then after i attached them and reattached the power part the screen was just white, idk what this means, any thoughts?
I don't know since I didn't power it up without having it plugged in. The white screen can also be what I described in my video description. There's a solution for that one there too.
Hi, I did everything exactly as you said and did not tear any cables and I connected the cables properly, but when I went to turn it on, it didn't power on at all! help??
I did everything you said, but my ipod wont turn on is the problem that I lightly scratched the battery with my flat headed screw driver? Everything else was perfect I don't know what went wrong please help me.
hi I did everything and it worked but the screen never satyed stuck and :( i tried moveing it but the digitalizer seperated and i tried everything again and it did not work no more do you think Idamaged the ipod or the digitalizer
Nice video, almost every video i saw didn't put the metal clip from the old screen to the new screen. But you did. But after conecting the digitizer cable at the back of the logic board, you need to remove ALL fingerprints on the circuit board. If you dont it can and up in disaster like all other peaple have.
oh ok but will it still work well my is that it wont work because I droped it so much that it wont work when I turn it on it turns on but when I try to unlock it well it still work or u think I should just buy another one
Is it a knock off Screen Or original it Said OEM but everything on amazon says Its original when it not Does the screen seem Less bright and Less colorful Then Your old broken screen
HELP! my ipod turned on after many attempts of not turning on. Then when we finally got it to work, we turned it off again to attach the adhesives (like you said). When we tried it again, it brings up the apple logo for a second, then flashes a white screen. It repeats that process the whole time. We have tried everything. Any suggestions? please!
No matter how much i try to connect the connector from the screen to the board it just won't stick and I've been trying for about an hour now. Any advice!!
If you get a blank white screen try this: While holding the home button down and volume up button, push and hold the power off button and hold that until you see the apple logo. If the iPod will not turn off, try to reset it. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol appears. If the battery symbol appears, continue to charge iPod touch until it is fully charged.
No white screen? Nothing? If you do get the white screen, check the video description for details on that. Otherwise, if you followed the directions and made all the connections correctly, you may have a bad screen.
Maybe the part your received is malfunctioning. If it worked fine the first time, you could try checking all the connections again. Otherwise, I would suggest that you reach out to the seller and ask about a replacement. Our screen is still going strong since I performed this repair.
Hey i have done everything i this video and everything came out good except for one thing. The sides of the iPod are popping out a bit idk why. I even opened it again and put extra adhesive but its still popping out. Anyone know why?
I would search TH-cam regarding the speaker wire. Are you getting a blank white screen? If so, see toward the bottom of my video description for a possible fix.
hey i fix ever thing but when i pull the screen up and the last connector came out so the screens black but a can hear it hook up ot iTunes how do i fix to see the screen again
Try this: While holding the home button down and volume up button, push and hold the power off button and hold that until you see the apple logo. If the iPod will not turn off, try to reset it. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol appears. If the battery symbol appears, continue to charge iPod touch until it is fully charged.

This is actually fascinating, I didn't realize that replacing the screen required taking the whole thing apart!
Do I actually need the metal bracket to hold the screen because I do not have one, but everything else works fine. I'm just scared to put it back on if I actually do need it. Please reply quick. Thank you for your time.
Do you need that little peace behind the screen on the top ? The little peace with the adhesive ?
Worked out exactly as you showed it thanks a lot. Only question is the adhesive on the metal bracket will no longer stick and I don't have any adhesive. Should I get some to apply to it or what do you recommend be added to it?
I would apply new adhesive strips to keep it from opening up.
Thanks for the help.
You're welcome.

Glad it worked out! 😊
Where did yu get the supplies
What if i don't have the metal plate you put on the new screen from the old one ? Do i absolutely need it ? Or do you know where i can get it replaced ?
do you have to replace both digitizer and lcd even though the lcd is fine ? can you replace the digitizer only.

Great!
+Jorge Lopez how much would you cost me to fix my ipod
you can find this screen on ebay right now for 9.00 usd comes with home button and metal bracket already attached. 3/2/17
Did you install it? Can you see the scratch? Does the LCD function correctly?
Thanks Jorge great video but a question. Installed my new screen, unit boots up to enter passwords numbers but i have no touch control. Any Ideas?
Could be a bad screen. Did you ask for a replacement?
so you have to replace both digitizer and lcd even though the lcd is fine? is their any way to replace the digitizer only.
Are you referring to the piece mentioned at around 9:58 in this video? I did re-use it because others recommended that I do.
so you have to replace both digitizer and lcd even thou the lcd is fine? is their any way to replace the digitizer only.
Great repair video.
I followed all the steps and was very careful. I can't get the ipod to power on. Nothing looks damaged. Everything works fine on my iPod touch 4th gen....except it has 3 gray spot which partially blocks certain apps. Can I just replace the screen Jorge?
I have an I touch someone gave me im not sure if its a 4 or 5 gen its very slim and has a chrome backing and white front. The screen is cracked but not bad. Hard reset it
lexi stephens Did you set up your photo stream?
5:58 that's what she said
were did u buy the kit though and everything?
I put on the new screen according to your video and my Ipod doesn't turn on. I have it charging, but still nothing. Do you have any suggestions?
The iPods frame may be bent or warped around that area or you may still have some of the old adhesive in the edges. You can try heating it up and removing as much of the old adhesive as possible.

how do i put on the full size adhesive for the screen?
Does the digitizer work
I cracked my screen on the top of my ipod and I lost the metal piece that you said was necessary, is there somewhere where i can get it?
Are you referring to the black hard plastic that goes around the whole edge? Mine was stuck to the cover, therefore I left it in place. If yours is damaged, you may want to purchase a new one.
Will i Still be able to put the new screen on
Where did you buy the new screen?
So I wanted to post because I noticed a lot of people are having a "white screen" problem after this repair. First off I had this problem after following this video. I have a question I have a iPod 4 th generation and I was wondering if u know y my iPod sometimes wants to charge and sometimes it doesn't its not a big deal bc in the summer I prob will get a new one but my iPod has to last until than
you probably need a new charger
My new screen's digitizer ribbon broke from the middle. Can that be fixed or I need to buy a completely new screen?
no it cannot be fixed. The ribbon is very delicate it has to read a massive amount of sensors even a little damage can completely destroy or render partially useless.
i followed your instructions step by step and it still does not turn on do u have any advice other than get a new ipod
never mind i look further and found the answer
Please send me the link...I am having the same problem as you
Issue with home button. Screen and digitizer works great. But home button?
Make sure you home button is on the pins of he screen if not it might be placement. Make sure the electronics under the home button are still in proper place. See the video for reference.
i did everything as you said and my screen worked before i went to attech the adhesive pads, then after i attached them and reattached the power part the screen was just white, idk what this means, any thoughts?
hold down your power button and home button at the same time. This will reset your ipod
Will This Fix My Power Off Button Too?
@Jorge Lopez will the screen show white if the digitizer isnt connected?
I don't know since I didn't power it up without having it plugged in. The white screen can also be what I described in my video description. There's a solution for that one there too.
what is the function of the copper tape on the back of the camera? do you really need it?- I ripped mine
Ivan Villagran Have you checked to see if the digitizer's cable accidentally disconnected? Other than that, I don't know what it could be.
Jorge Lopez thank you I think its that it come off very eassy
Ivan Villagran You're welcome.
You could use a screen protector or a case that completely covers your iPod to avoid water getting into the cracked glass.
You probably should buy a new one. This procedure only replaces a cracked screen.
Does this erase anything on the ipod? I'm leaving it into a shop but I don't want to lose anything on it
It didn't erase anything on our iPod, so no, I don't believe it does.
Is it a knock off Screen Or original it Said OEM but everything on amazon says Its original when it not Does the screen seem Less bright and Less colorful Then Your old broken screen
very detailed explaination of everything, excelent video thanks
Thanks!

Try hard resetting it. Hold power and home for 10/15 sec it will work I promise unless u kinked the lcd cable
+Lorenzo van het Hul Thanks i`ll give it a try.

HELP!
my ipod turned on after many attempts of not turning on. Then when we finally got it to work, we turned it off again to attach the adhesives (like you said). When we tried it again, it brings up the apple logo for a second, then flashes a white screen. It repeats that process the whole time. We have tried everything. Any suggestions? please!
You're welcome! I think the color combination looks good and unique. :)
No matter how much i try to connect the connector from the screen to the board it just won't stick and I've been trying for about an hour now. Any advice!!
If you get a blank white screen try this:
While holding the home button down and volume up button, push and hold the power off button and hold that until you see the apple logo.
If the iPod will not turn off, try to reset it. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol appears.
If the battery symbol appears, continue to charge iPod touch until it is fully charged.
i have a question my ipod is cracked and when i type it types different letter than my fingers are on will this fix it please help
The metal bracket next to the camera? I've seen that part for $3.49 with free shipping on Ebay. Go to Ebay and search for metal bracket ipod touch 4.
hi i followed your instructions and didnt tear any cables, but the screen wont turn on, nothing at all. any suggestions?
No white screen? Nothing? If you do get the white screen, check the video description for details on that. Otherwise, if you followed the directions and made all the connections correctly, you may have a bad screen.
Jorge Lopez Ok im getting a white screen and im holding all those buttons and getting nothing
When you first connected the screen, did you test it like I did in the video before putting it all back together?
Jorge Lopez when I originally tested the screen i got a white screen then i disconnected it and now there is nothing
I was trying to fix the screen and I did it perfectly but then the blue and red wire broke is that fixable :/
i have a iphone 4 and I has been water damaged I have fixed everything but the only thing that doesn't work is the touch screen and tips?
Maybe the part your received is malfunctioning. If it worked fine the first time, you could try checking all the connections again. Otherwise, I would suggest that you reach out to the seller and ask about a replacement. Our screen is still going strong since I performed this repair.
how much does the kit cost?
Hey i have done everything i this video and everything came out good except for one thing. The sides of the iPod are popping out a bit idk why. I even opened it again and put extra adhesive but its still popping out. Anyone know why?
I would search TH-cam regarding the speaker wire. Are you getting a blank white screen? If so, see toward the bottom of my video description for a possible fix.
hey i fix ever thing but when i pull the screen up and the last connector came out so the screens black but a can hear it hook up ot iTunes how do i fix to see the screen again
