- This video shows you how I repaired and replaced my wife's 4th Generation Apple iPod Touch's broken shattered glass screen (display) and digitizer. The video is under 20 minutes but it may take you longer, especially if it's your first time. I purchased a screen/digitizer kit that came with the required tools, adhesive strips and a white face from the links below.
Once you watch this video you will learn how to fix your own broken, cracked or shattered screen. You should only proceed with the repair yourself at your own risk.

Getting a blank white screen after installing the new screen? Try this:
While holding the home button down and volume up button, push and hold the power off button and hold that until you see the apple logo.
If the iPod will not turn off, try to reset it. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until either the Apple logo or battery symbol appears.

This video was my "go to" guide for replacing the broken screen on my daughter's iPod Touch. I did everything exactly as shown and described. The screen wouldn't come on, so I hooked it up to the computer/charger and it booted right up! You saved me $75!

Excellent job making the video. My daughter's fell out of her pocket and the screen broke. She saved all Summer to buy it and was very sad to say the least. After watching your video, I feel confident enough to give it a try. I plan to order a kit, sneak her broken one and fix it. Then I'll think of a cool way to surprise her. OH MY GOODNESS I am not good at this stuff never done it before. Bought the kit and did every step that you did and thank God and you it worked. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU. We have 3 that are broke so you know how much money this has saved me. Twenty bucks for the kit and I INSTALLED IT. The only thing I couldn't do is the metal around he home key I could not find but I think it may have fell out before and was missing but works perfectly. Did I say thank you, well thank you.

And the copper tape at the digitizer caple is there for grounding the top digitizer cable, if you get a esd schok on it and it jumps over to the back off the cable you have to replace the screen and capacitive ic again. The c ic (capacitive ic) is a bga (surface mounted) solder work. The schock can even jump over when everything is closed since the back is from metal

before opening your ipod,reset it by pressing your home button and off/on button (it may erase all your info and games in it,but what worked for me in this case because the digitizer wasnt working,i waited until the ipod ran out of battery(3 days) then restared it :)

A few times I thought I damaged the touchscreen cable as it was stupidly placed under the logic board, in the end it did work
Nice video, almost every video i saw didn't put the metal clip from the old screen to the new screen. But you did. But after conecting the digitizer cable at the back of the logic board, you need to remove ALL fingerprints on the circuit board. If you dont it can and up in disaster like all other peaple have.
followed your video step by step and everything went perfect!! EXCEPT... When I tried to connect the digitizer to snap in place still cant get it any ideas as to why I cant get it connected??

I do not have an iPhone and I've never had a device with water damage, but if everything else is working, I would think that you may be able to replace the screen and digitizer so that that touchscreen functions.

I followed all the steps and was very careful. I can't get the ipod to power on. Nothing looks damaged. New screen is likely good because I plugged the old cracked screen back in and still no power whatsoever. Tried plugging in the ipod for a few hours and nothing still. Tried your suggestions in the description with no success. Any thing I might be missing? Much appreciated.

I haven't seen your video but from the comments it looks like it's a excellent video. I have one question though. I lost the metal plate that goes on the top screen. I was wondering if I replaced the badly broken screen would the new screen still fit or would there be problems?
The iPods frame may be bent or warped around that area or you may still have some of the old adhesive in the edges. You can try heating it up and removing as much of the old adhesive as possible.
So I followed instructions on your video, got to the end turned it on and it worked. Don't know what happened but screen turned white but you could still see picture on screen vaguely with a black dot and touch screen isn't working. Any suggestions?
You could use a screen protector or a case that completely covers your iPod to avoid water getting into the cracked glass.
Are you referring to the piece mentioned at around 9:58 in this video? I did re-use it because others recommended that I do.

Worked out exactly as you showed it thanks a lot. Only question is the adhesive on the metal bracket will no longer stick and I don't have any adhesive. Should I get some to apply to it or what do you recommend be added to it?
I would apply new adhesive strips to keep it from opening up.

As for the home button, you may need to find a thin piece of plastic and wedge it in between the plastic home button and the actual contact that it pushes down onto inside the device. If that doesn't work, then I don't know what could be wrong. Is your device displaying a blank white screen?
Does the digitizer work
So I wanted to post because I noticed a lot of people are having a "white screen" problem after this repair. First off I had this problem after following this video. I am a repairer I repair all kinds of things from tablets to phones to cars. Pretty much anything. I haven't repaired an ipod 4th gen yet so that is why I watched the video. Its very important to see where the cables are and which are connected to the digitizer. These videos are a guide. Ipods like most things have a reset sequence. Meaning say you have a bad screen then change the screen but the ipod remember hey I had a bad screen. So you need to reset. Long and short of it if you have a white screen hold down the power button and the home button it should then show the apple logo and boot up. This video was actually good as it shows where you need to be most careful. However my only "nitpick" would be some replacement screens come with everything already attached so you don't need to remove the home button or the metal plate. Good job Jorge Lopez thanks!

I looked through the comments to see if u replied to anyone that had the problem. I didn't find the solution so I looked at other videos. Since this video helped and I noticed u didn't respond I did. And now it's posted in the comments. I never read the read the description it never crossed my mind.

I installed everything like you said, and I received the white screen. I looked at the description and followed what to do if I had the white screen. The logo popped up, and I began going through everything to make sure it was all there. Everything seemed to be there except when I looked under all of my pictures. They are gone! All the albums are there though. Also my 2 backgrounds are the same pictures that I had under my camera roll. I had over 5,000 pictures and now they are all gone! Has this ever happened, and what should I do?
I did (and re-did) all the process of the video, but when I turn the screen on it does not work (the charging sound continues appearing). I don't know if the last LCD cable is connected properly but I am pretty sure the digitiser cable is connected. Is there any more step I must have made a mistake? Thanks for the attention.
hi. I just started replacing my screen and I think I ripped the wifi antenna like you said not to do. How do you know for sure if you ripped it and should I bother to keep going through the process or did I wreck my ipod?
Do you need that little peace behind the screen on the top ? The little peace with the adhesive ?
What if i don't have the metal plate you put on the new screen from the old one ? Do i absolutely need it ? Or do you know where i can get it replaced ?
Hi. This worked but my screen will not fit to my iPod's frame. I think this is because the frame is dented from when i dropped it. If it is possible for you the help me that would be great!

Everything works fine on my iPod touch 4th gen....except it has 3 gray spot which partially blocks certain apps. Can I just replace the screen Jorge?
Hello, I tried to follow your guide and I must say that I did everything to perfection step by step, but unfortunately when I press the power button screen appears completely white. Same thing happens if I attack the old broken lcd with touch cut the cable.

Maybe the part your received is malfunctioning. If it worked fine the first time, you could try checking all the connections again. Otherwise, I would suggest that you reach out to the seller and ask about a replacement. Our screen is still going strong since I performed this repair.

My ipod was broken already with a couple pieces from the top right corner missing, when my mom spilled water on it. It was completely submerged for maybe five minutes before she realized. My ipod has been in rice for three days, but the screen won't work at all. It still makes screenshot noises and charging noises, but the screen remains black. If I were to do this repair, would I have a working screen again? My ipod is far beyond the warranty anyways.

Hello sir! While attempting to fix my cracked screen, i might've screwed up the logic board but i cant tell for sure. I can see alittle aadhesive lifted from the logic board, almost hanging down but still stuck to it. And the left margin of the logic board keeps lifting up when i push it down. So did i break it? And if so what can i do to fix it? please help!

I purchased the kit with both the digitizer and screen fused together because it would have been tougher to fuse them together myself. That's just what I heard.
Hi there i just did this screen replacement today , bought it on ebay. now the screen turned on but the battery was running out so i couldn't unlock it of course because it wasn't an option , now , i put it back together but there seems to be a issue , the top of the screen and the bottom of the screen do not sense touch , or for example APPS on the top of the screen aren't click-able and neither are APPS or keys on the bottom , i struggled to just unlock it , I assume its a faulty screen or could the plug have disconnected?

Yeah, If you want to buy Molybdenum wire and carefully use it as a wire saw to separate the original LCD from the digitizer and spend an extra 2 hours cleaning it afterwards then have to purchase the UV resin and UV light source to cure it after you adhere the new digitizer to the salvaged LCD. The only time you would do that is on the iPhone 5's where the LCD/Digitizer combo costs $185 bucks.
i cant fully apply the screen without this vertical white line in the leftest side appearing. Its not there unless i apply a bit of pressure when i go to press it into the shell, i cant use adhesive strips to set it in without it popping up. Is there anyway to fix this?
Are you referring to the black hard plastic that goes around the whole edge? Mine was stuck to the cover, therefore I left it in place. If yours is damaged, you may want to purchase a new one.
Do I need the metal thing at the top off the old screen? Because I don't have a screen at all so I don't have it.
Hi, I did everything exactly as you said and did not tear any cables and I connected the cables properly, but when I went to turn it on, it didn't power on at all! help??
I have an I touch someone gave me im not sure if its a 4 or 5 gen its very slim and has a chrome backing and white front. The screen is cracked but not bad. The problem is wen its not used for a while it lights up sometimes for 3 seconds sometimes 8 at the most maybe 15-20 seconds is how long it will stay lit. It looks like it BARELY cracked could there be ANY possible way to fix it without replacing the screen? I can stilll use it but have to squint it lights up VERY DIMLY and all features work

Hello thanks so much for this video. I was able to replace my broken screen for a new screen. However, my backlight (not sure if that's what it's called) flashes white. When it's in the lock screen as well as when I'm at the home screen. My screen just flashes? I could see what I'm doing but the flashing is giving me a headache. Would you happen to know what I did wrong? Thank you.
Have you tried performing a hard reset on your iPod? If it continues it may be a bad display and you may want to contact the seller.
Try your old screen, test the lcd and if it does the same, you messed up your connector or you have to much fingerprints on the logic board and needs to be cleaned because its shorting. If that doesn't work then your graphics hardware (in this case the PoP Cpu A4 chip) is fried.
Hi Jorge - HELP! I followed every step meticulously, replaced the cracked screen, but iPod does not turn on. I have tried pressing the on switch and home button simultaneously. I have tried plugging in the iPod to be sure it has charge, but nothing. Do you have any ideas?
Only thing that may have gone wrong is that I did mistakenly touch the center of the iPod for a split second with the metal tool I was using, and a faint puff of smoke appeared. Could I have burnt it out? Thank you!

Hey i have done everything i this video and everything came out good except for one thing. The sides of the iPod are popping out a bit idk why. I even opened it again and put extra adhesive but its still popping out. Anyone know why?
If it bugs you, and you feel comfortable with the replacement process, then yes, go for it. Otherwise, wait until the screen cracks.
I was trying to fix the screen and I did it perfectly but then the blue and red wire broke is that fixable :/

my ipod turned on after many attempts of not turning on. Then when we finally got it to work, we turned it off again to attach the adhesives (like you said). When we tried it again, it brings up the apple logo for a second, then flashes a white screen. It repeats that process the whole time. We have tried everything. Any suggestions? please!
