    Following this video, I was able to successfully change the battery on the iPod 6th gen. I especially liked the idea of using a template to store parts. Beautifully shot, good sound.

    Thanks for this. I just now used your instructions to replace my iPod 6 battery. It’s reassembled and charging at this moment. (Knock on wood). My battery connection cover seemed to have been glued to the connectors at the factory. No desoldering was necessary. Before soldering the new battery onto them, I smeared a bit of solder to each of the iPod’s battery connection points. Other than that small difference, my experience was similar to that depicted in the video.

    Your very fine video has given me the confidence to go ahead and replace the battery in my ipod touch 5th gen. Thank you for your expertice. I am aware that the home button will need to be removed on the 5th generation model as it fits through a slot in the metal shield.

    Thank you SO much! Absolutely excellent video.
    One quick question though … does anything need to be reset, as I saw some sort of "repair-screen-display??" when you were connecting and disconnecting the battery to AC, or does that just go away after the 1st* springboard boot up?
    {*1st after battery replacement, that is}

    Thx for the vid, have 1 question. During the moving around the tiny square piece I guess is the camera on the cable detached from the lense. At 29:38 in the vid u can see it at the top center near the numbering printed o the top cover, its a mesh like tiny square assy. The lense may have a little junk on it too. what to clean it with and use tiny dab of glue to reattach?

    I followed this video step by step and was able to get a good solid connection after soldering the new battery connector. When I turned it on, everything was fine. As I put the battery flex cable cover on with no Kapton tape, I got a spark and it burned a small hole in that cover. Would that be caused because there is no Kapton tape between the solder and the cover or would it be caused by something else??? Please help, thank you.

  • @crunchb3rry

    I follow most of this, but am confused about the solder type. Was that lead solder from somebody else? A factory iPod have lead-free rosin core solder, right? So for a stock (ie: never cracked opened) iPod, just use the rosin-core for this procedure?

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's called Kapton tape which can withstand high temperates without melting, while the flux is just regular soldering flux which it's not really critical in this case.

      You need to remove the excess solder first with the desoldering braid to lift away the connector cleanly without damage. Honestly this repair is not for beginners/novices due to its difficulty level, you're better off taking it to a local mobile repair shop and they'll do it for you properly for a few bucks.

    you don't need to heat the back to get the battery out. the 3M adhesive taps are accessible if you have a fine nose needle nose pliers or good tweezers. the black pull tabs are located one on the bottom right side of the battery and the other is on the left side at the top just under the battery cable. they are stretchy enough that once you grab a hold of the tab you can carefully pull it and the adhesive strip will come out.

      The adhesive on the EMI shield will hold the digitizer in place. If you decide to glue the the frame to the LCD make sure you use an applicator and apply very little glue so it does not seep out onto the screen. Any further questions please let me know.

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Most likely the middle pin of the battery called the BLI/BSI (Battery Level Indicator) is not soldered on properly, therefore the phone won't charge accordingly. Try to reflow the solder again on the middle pin with more flux. It's also possible that your "aftermarket" battery is such low quality that the phone simply rejects to charge it. Don't forget, "You get what you pay for!" ;)

      Out Source i Desolder the new battery and checked voltage it was 3.78v. Solder the battery back in and now it's working. Charge up to 100% .
      I have one more issue maybe you can help with. I broke the front facing camera and order a new one. How do you attach the contact point to the logic board?

    • @outsourcerepairs
      @outsourcerepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Before installing the front facing camera make sure you disconnect the battery. When installing the new front facing camera line up the solder pads on the logic board with the solder connections on the front facing camera flex cable then tape in place. Do not cover all connections with tape because you are going to solder the cable to the logic board. You're only using the tape to hold the cable in place while soldering. Once you are finished soldering the front facing camera flex cable cover solder connections with Kapton Tape.

    Awww thought all was going well until you did the soldering hmmmmmm. This newer ipod is not half as good as the old ones they just keep going forever. This one has been replaced once under warranty and now the battery is kaput, I guess. Your demonstration is superb but still too hard for me unfortunately.

      Hello, The tape serves as a barrier between the EMI shield and battery connections. You can replace it with a thin piece of electrical tape or kapton tape. As far as the iPod not turning on I'd need to know a little more about the state of the device. Is the device fully assembled and does the Apple logo come on then shut off?

      If the pads have melted and lifted away due to the soldering tip temperature being too high, you could probably trace it on the circuit board and patch the battery pins with extension wires. It's not for the faint-hearted to do. ;)

    Hey great video! Very professional. I have a question that you may know the answer too. I do side work with electronics. I received this ipod touch 6th gen as a repair job originally the ipod would only come on with charging cord plugged in, at that time it would show the battery icon in the top right of the screen as dead (smallest amount of red possible in the icon) with no charging symbol. I replaced the battery and now it will charge up but it hesitates like when you first power it on it shows dead on the icon then about 30 seconds later shows fully charged. Is that a calibration issue with the new battery? Thought you might have seen something like this?

    • @outsourcerepairs
      @outsourcerepairs  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, I've seen the issue you describe(Device turns on & displays low battery) a lot with the Ipod Touch 6th gen after replacing the battery. I do not know what causes the issue but as long as the battery does not drain or appear to be defective it should be okay. If you have any further questions please let me know.

      @butchpetty7914 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Out source, I have recently replaced my screen on my Ipod touch and now it wont turn on. If I plug it up it will power on the apple logo, and ten seconds later shut off. Then it keeps doing that for infinity. Have I damaged my battery along the way?

    • @outsourcerepairs
      @outsourcerepairs  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You may have disconnected the power button flex cable, remove the 3 screws that hold the logic board in and verify all flex cables are attached on the rear of the board where the LCD and digtizer flex cable connect. If you have any further questions please message me.

    • @scientist100
      @scientist100 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is an indication of a short. I had an iPhone 6 Plus that was doing that and after careful inspection "on the LCD ribbon cable" I noticed a burn mark that was somehow making contact with one of the pins. I cleaned the area and with a tweezer I broke the bridge that was visible "under a microscope" and after that the boot looping went away.

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The constant boot looping is either caused by breaking the battery cable (or pads), or a firmware error (try reflashing it in DFU mode).

    I have replaced batteries on 3 different ipods that I own. Every time, the new battery gives me fluctuating charge readings and seems to drain rapidly even when the ipod is not used or is turned off. The fully charged battery will be dead in 24 hours. The 3 batteries I bought were from different battery manufactuers and different sellers. Am I that unlucky that all the batteries were bad?

    • @BillAnt
      @BillAnt 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Im Luma < Basically the solder under the connector flowed and shorted out the (+) and (-) terminals frying your battery. You've gotta be really careful with that, though usually it won't blow up completely, it could shoot out some nasty flames an smoke. Nowadays a local shop will do it for so little money that's really not worth wasting your time, plus messing it up. ;)
