    By far the best tutorial I watched about how to do this. Very helpful, and I was able to get my screen replaced without a hiccup. I was using a hair dryer instead of a heat gun, but I found that it only took a minute or two until the phone was warm enough to begin separating the glass from the LCD. I had no temperature gauge at all, so I would heat the glass until it became just warmer than you can comfortably touch. Couldn't have done it without you JerryRigEverything.

  • @andrewtechful
    @andrewtechful 9 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Thanks for a great tutorial. I was able to replace my screen successfully without any issues afterwards. I just want to say that this process CAN be done using a hair dryer however, it will take you double the time if not more because it takes a little longer for the screen to reach 185 degrees. I would recommend just being very slow and patient with during the process because it's VERY easy to mess it up if you are not careful. Since this was my first time, it took me nearly 3 hours but I was taking my time and doing it very carefully. Hope these tips help and good luck :)

    Clear and concise. Excellent video. I used a hair dryer and stiff business card. It took longer. Had to be more careful about force. This is because a heat gun like the one in this video puts out much higher heat than a hair dryer.

    Thankyou for making this video!! Unfortunately I wasn't sure exactly where the ribbon was at the top and managed to slice straight through it. From your vid I thought it was just at the first sensor hole. Whoops.... Still a brill video though. Maybe a pic of the digitizer at the start of the vid may help others avoid my mistake? :-)

    Thanks JRig - great video! Watched this and your Tips & Tricks video. Called several places around here in South NJ that said there is no way to only replace the glass on the Galaxy S4 & S4 Mini. It would cost around $225 + labor, because they would replace the digitizer with the glass. Phone insurance wanted $125 deductible to replace phone. Looked around and found an S4 Mini glass that came with tool kit/wire/tape for $10.95. With the help of your videos, I just finished my wife's S4 Mini glass replacement and saved at least $115! (Oh yeah, I also wrapped that sucker in an Otterbox Case before she touched it again, cause it did take me about 2 hours - haha) Well worth it though - Thanks!

    One of the best how-to's I've ever seen. In my case, the glass is not messed up enough to justify this work, even though the glass is only $10. Had I not seen this video, I may have gone for it and regretted the time. It also confirmed for me that I may not be careful enough to do it right. Thanks!! If I were to shatter the glass, I might try this as I prep to replace the phone... :) Great job!!

    Hello,
    I followed your guide and thank you! It made replacing the glass very easy. I have one problem, the bottom quarter of my screen is not responsive. I had put a little more glue than needed on the bottom half. Could the glue have leaked beneath the LCD?
    And would a full LCD change fix the issue?
    Thanks in advance!

    Good video. Thanks. Saw another video though where no new glue or tape were used to adhere replacement glass. The tech just lined up and pressed the glass into existing adhesive (although he did clean off the goop on the digitizer after removing old glass...I suppose that was adhesive too). Used heat gun afterwards to warm up glue for better hold. Can you recommend or condone that? As an aside, it appeared that the new glass might have had adhesive since it did have a clear plastic sheet on it that needed to be removed before installation.

      All the glass panels have a plastic liner, there is no glue on the glass. If there ever was, you would need to put the phone in an autoclave to remove all the bubbles.

    Jerry good evening. I need your advice regarding the glass seperation method. Card or wire (I got fishing cord actually which is 0.33mm)? I already tried taking off and s4 galaxy screen and I messed up the digitizer. That shit is really really fragile. Good thing the lcd was burnt already so no worry about it. But tell me pls, is the s4 mini with the same digitizer? Should I go with 0.33mm fishing wire or with playing cards? Please note that the s4 I tried to take off the glass, I tried it with only 1 card and I was heating it up with a hair drier and I don't think I ever reached even 70 degrees Celsius when trying it.
    Well now I m loaded with a heat gun, a laser thermometer, fishing cord......and a very low confidence on myself :( because honestly although I think I understand all my mistakes regarding the steps I followed during the s4 glass removal, I still don't feel very safe to perform the operation. Please give me some advices dude, cause I can't afford to mess up s4 mini for it is not mine to test with. Thanks a lot in advance. Keep up your awesome work.

    Nice video!
    I broke my S4 screen and thankfully the digitizer was not damaged, only the screen cracked on the bottom. So I removed the cracked screen and the digitizer was still working. I tried to use only double tapes but it didn't work and I had go to with LOCA glue. I didn't put the double tape around the borders, only on the top of the screen and I might have used to much glue on it, as I had to push the bubbles towards the borders so I could remove the excess of glue. The phone turned on normally but the touch screen is behaving very awkward, as I can slide the status bar from the top to open it and close it by sliding from the bottom to the top, but I can't open apps by clicking on their icons, even the capacitive menu and back buttons are unresponsive, every command only works when I press the screen harder than the normal and after few attempts. It seems that the touch screen is not calibrated, when I press on a specific area its like pressing beside it.
    Do you have any clue on what could have gone wrong and how I can fix it ?
    Thanks for you help, appreciate it!

    Hey Jerry I have succeed taking off the glass. But the space key pad is not working properly. Is it because I didn't Loco glue the screen or I have to replace the whole lcd. Thanks

    Hi Jerry,
    This video is really useful. Makes me understand how the previous owner of an S4 I have has repaired the screen.
    There's a problem though, it seems like mist appears under the screen without the LOCA Glue? Like a haze? You can't really see it when the screen is on, but you can when the screen is off. Is there any way of stopping this from happening
    Cheers

      +InvisibleYetVisible Could that mist, be dust specks? That would be from not making a good seal around the edges with the double sided tape. (Or not using LOCA glue.)

      JerryRigEverything
      Hello Jerry, wow thanks for the really prompt reply. Didn't expect you to get back to me so quick.
      I can assure you, it's not dust. I removed the glass using a heat gun yesterday. Cleaned both the LCD panel and the digitizer. I have a feeling that it's due to not using LOCA Glue, but you're not using LOCA Glue here? Are you not suffering similar problems?

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The only problems I would come in contact with is when the glass layer touches the LCD layer, and makes a 'bubble' that looks almost like moisture. But that only happens when the layers are too close and you can fix it with more tape. And as long as you seal the LCD rim with the tape, you shouldnt get dust either.

      Yeah it suffers from that as well. So you think that can be sorted with a layer of tape? Currently, it's only adhesive appears to be some very thin lightweight glue.
      I do wonder if this is contributing to the mist effect though? I'll take a photo and send it you, see what you think.

    hi Jerry. I have an S4 whose menu and back button dont respond. need to replace flex cable I guess which requires removing glass. Is it possible to remove the glass without breaking it?

    • @JerryRigEverything
      @JerryRigEverything  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      jmscassar It is very very difficult. Most people do not succeed. But if you feel confident you can always try it.
