    I’m not going to lie, I was HOPING hourglass would be very similar to thrive. There is value to me with something like mascara in being able to get it easily at sephora or Nordstrom. That being said, I find the hourglass to be lighter and easier to build. I am one who has struggled with building thrive so it is a little easier for me

    • @mariestopa

      Elizabeth S you found it lighter . I had the thrive and found the formula to heavy and clumsy to me .

      Marie Stopa yes so far wearing for a week I think it’s lighter and seems all around to be an airier effect. Give it a try! Like you said, easy enough to return when it’s from sephora if it just doesn’t suit you.

    This is so interesting. I didn’t notice how similar they are until you pointed it out. I kinda wish hourglass would have done an hourglass or curved wand. I love the thrive mascara but I prefer a curved wand. I cleaned off one of my old favorite wands and sometimes use that in the thrive mascara. My favorite mascara wand is actually from a mascara from germany. I’ve never seen another wand like it. It’s the Astor big and beautiful bfly. And as the name suggests it’s sort of shaped like a butterfly wing. It has the perfect curves for scooping and pushing lashes up.

    I've been using tubing mascaras for over 12 years and they are definitely my favourites! The first one was L'Oréal Double Extend, then tried Blinc, Too Faced lash injection, Clinique Lash Power, Estée Lauder Double Wear Zéro Smudge, Mac extended Play Gigalash, Lise Watier 24 hr glam, Revlon Mega Multiplier, and more recently, Thrive. There are many more out there that I haven't tried, but because I'm in Canada, I might try the Hourglass to replace the Thrive since with shipping and currency exchange, it ends up costing me too much. I do agree that Thrive is a heavier formula and since I have trouble keeping my eyelashes curled, I curl my lashes, then apply, then dry my lashes with my hairdryer on cool setting and it seems to help keep the curl!

    • @kackie
      @kackie  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good call! Also, the Too Faced is the first one I ever tried, like 2010 or something, that claimed to be tubing, and it WASN'T! Did you have any luck with that one?

    • @jazzandchocolat
      @jazzandchocolat 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kackie It was okay, but not the best! I only bought it once. I hated the Blinc, which felt like an empty tube of dry mascara... Clinique was super wet and provided no volume or length, same with Revlon. L'Oréal was pretty good for the price! So is Mac! For many years, my go to was Estée Lauder, but I really try not to buy anything from companies that test on animals, so I moved away from that one and have only been using Thrive - thanks to a promotion they had and their gigantic tube that lasts me 6 months! I just opened the second tube yesterday, so I'm good for another 6 months!! 😉

  • @lpg8518

    I just got the hourglass yesterday and immediately put it on. I am in LOVE with it!! I am happy that it is similar to Thrive in that it has the same brush, but behaves differently. Hourglass has a creamier formula which that won't dry up on you when trying to build it up. It doesn't flake and easily removes with soap and water. My complaints with Thrive is that it leaves black specs under my eyes, the fibers get in my eyes and removing it for me is a nightmare. I don't tug, pull or rub my lashes so removing it would take 3 face washes and I still had little black specs all over.

  • @TheJordandean

    We have so many of the same thoughts on this! Thrive has been a favorite of mine for the past year and I think the applicators are a tiny bit different, my Hourglass "spikes" are a little longer and my lashes appear more whispy. I was so glad to hear you say that about the shine because I noticed that too! Great review and comparison! I added your video to my description box!

    The first time I used Thrive mascara back in 2018, the wash-off terrified me, I felt like I was pulling glue from my lashes! But that initial shock turned into love REAL quick and it’s probably the main reason I’ve been so loyal to this brand! I will never use anything that makes me rub my eyeballs after seeing how gently and effortlessly Thrive departs from my lashes! Oh and also, if you set up an auto-order subscription the shipping free! 😁

    I agree on the shape and flexibility of the brushes but I happen to be wearing my glasses thank god cuz I’m otherwise BLIND lol but the thrive ones’ bristles have a slight variation in bristle length as to where the hourglass one looked like the bristles were all the same length. The thrive side also looks more lifted and curled slightly but noticeable to me. I wasn’t impressed with HG caution mascara too dry for me but I’ve yet to try thrive. Love black noir by Marc Jacob and the mascara that pairs with it and the primer but Too faced better then sex has the best brush and formula also Benefit they’re REAL I got so many compliments. Ally Glines is a big Thrive mascara user. Her lashes are insane but she never talked about the technology behind why the mascara is so good. This is really making me want to try it although I’m not sure about the removal thing. Sounds weird . I use oil to remove my makeup since I ran out of my giant green clean balm🥴 and if that won’t work idk 🤷🏻‍♀️ how I’ll take to that

    Wild. My initial thought was that at least Hourglass is easier to access for people (in the US at least), but then I remember that Thrive is available in most Ultas now.
    I have the thrive on the only thing I don't love is the wand style-- there's something about those narrow, short bristled brushes that irritate my eyes. Buxom's Lash Mascara has my all time favorite wand shape and I don't know why it's just now occuring to me to try it with the thrive mascara.

    I was momentarily excited because I can’t get Thrive in Europe and the only tubing mascara I’ve ever tried is by Kiss me Heroine (not cruelty free, don’t bother) and I thought I was going to loose every single lash. But once the initial excitement died down it has me feeling some kind of way ngl. Just who thought it was a good idea to do this I’ll never know. I think most if not all of Eyeko mascaras are tubing, on the website it talks about fibres an polymers and removing with warm water in the Rock Out & Lash Out and the Black Magic mascaras (have the black magic, but still haven’t tried it) and last time I looked they were cruelty free if you want to check them out.
    Btw Random question but do you or anyone else in here know how warm the Kosas tinted oil runs? I’m maybe a shade darker than you, with same undertone, so if I try to go for shade 04 which is the first labelled as “warm” I’m gonna end up looking interesting. I was thinking of getting one of the “neutral” shades if they run golden enough but I’ve never seen the shade range in person so I’m a bit lost. No worries if you have no idea, I know this is super random.

    I’ve tried to have a look at formulas of mascara and loads of the main ingredients seem to be the same, although I get what you mean about it being in exactly the same order. But still, I feel like most mascaras are similar anyway. I also think there’s loads of mascaras with similar names - hasn’t maybelline done a lash extensions mascara for years? I’m also quite selfishly happy as I live in the UK so ordering from thrive is not also expensive for shipping but I feel bad ordering long distance parcels delivered by air because of the environmental impact. I understand your outrage since it’s a product and brand you love, but as long as thrive continues to thrive 😂 hopefully it’s all ok!

      They are soft and floppy when they come off. They don’t even require tugging or coaxing. If you’re concerned definitely just hop in the shower with your makeup on instead of washing your face and you’ll see how the hot water removal works.

    Semi-related: is it crucial to throw away mascara after 6 months? Or even less than that?

      I think mascara gives you warning signs. It’ll start to itch a little and I toss it at that point.

    Hourglass jeez!! I use their caution mascara and really enjoy it for everyday it’s not waterproof but pretty water resistant but this new product kinda rubs me the wrong way!

    I tried to use your thrive discount link, but it's not working :/

    Is that even legal for Hourglass to copy Thrive? I did purchase Thrive mascara on your recommendation. I have oily eyelids & it doesn't smear or flake. You have to apply additional coats while it's still wet on lashes. Once it's dried, you can't build it up or you'll pull your lashes out

      I have no idea on the legality!

    I’m honestly kinda offended that hourglass couldn’t come up with there own formula and had to rip off a company that gives back to women in need. I’ve been using thrive for years and i love it I keep buying other mascaras to try to top it and nothing comes close..

    I honestly feel the thrive side looked better more curled lifted. So mad at HG. I hate that I love there baked powder formulas and loose powder so much otherwise I’d throw them out of my collection. I really lost a lot of respect for them.

    Hourglass is not hypoallergenic as Thrive is. Hourglass burned my eyes. I assumed it was hypoallergenic stupid me. So I am going to get my refund from Ulta. I can only wear hypoallergenic cosmetics. Thrive is hypoallergenic so right there it’s better!

    Will you try out Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez when it launches? I don't know much about it, but I'm pretty sure it'll be cruelty free and it sounds intriguing.

    I think it’s interesting that hourglass is knowingly charging more than thrive when it is widely known that thrive donates a part of the proceeds to charity 🤔

    Fu$k hourglass. I just got mine from Sephora-was SO excited for s new tubing mascara-and it looks exactly the same as thrive. It went on a tiny bit lighter but my thrive is a few months old. I’m going to return the hourglass and get the thrive in brown.
