I found that the Sky High transfers under my eyes (I'm oily) even if I'm prepped and powdered, something that the Thrive did not. It also seems to come off more as a fiber and less as a tubing. I would like to try a couple of these, but I wish there was a message on if it is cruelty-free or not. That's very important in my makeup decisions!
Those of you wondering is Sensai 38 degrees is worth it - only the curling one is. Kinda. I mean it is great, defining, comes off easily, but it does dry out pretty soon - lasts 2-3 months. I repurchased it once, but definitely don't think its worth the money unless you are ready to pay a way too much and repurchase often, but it works anyways!
Thank you so much!!! I've been wearing tubing mascaras for years now cause everything else makes me look like a panda within an hour. I'm so glad they've become so popular lately 😁
Thank you so much for making this video!!! Just a quick reminder, but DHC is a Japanese brand while Heimish is Korean. Funny how both popular cleansing brands make great mascara 😂
Thanks for sharing! I've just recently transitioned to tubing mascaras with my latest Maybelline snapscara (waterproof) purchase. It's exactly what i envisioned. After 15+ years of makeup wearing, my requirements in mascaea have changed because i want a clean removal and i want to start applying mascara to my bottom lashes.
Thanks so much! I have been a Trish McEvoy mascara girl for years, but in the last 3 years have been trying all the other options (Thrive, blinc and on and on) and none of them have come close. I did finally just find the lune + aster and am loving it! Hoping it is my new go to for the next 10 years. (and now I have even more options thanks to your reviews)
Dana!!! Thank you for testing all those! You and I both love tubing mascaras so I've bought a couple from your past videos. The Clinique has been my HG for years. The loreal one is growing on me and is easier to remove than Clinique and a little more dramatic of a look I find (in a good way). I just tried the snapscara too. Wearing it for the first time today. Looks good! We'll see how it removes... Next I'll try the Maybelline sky high one. I've never liked the blinc one. I tried the Mac one once and it was good but didn't care to repurchase. Same with kevyn aucoin. I so appreciate this review!!
You are the first one to mention Trish McEvoy Mascaras that I came across, and I've been searching for a while what others think about them. Thank you for mentioning your thoughts on their product!
This was SO helpful. I just got the Heimish one because I’m so sick of mascara transferring or being incredibly difficult to remove. So glad I found your channel! I’ll be marathoning your videos now haha
I love the L’Oréal Age Perfect mascara in the Easy to Remove waterproof (their code for tubing, I guess). I much prefer it over the double extend. I would highly recommend, but sadly, I heard they’re discontinuing it!
Thanks for the great tubing videos! Clinique has been my tubing mascara for the past two years but I recently purchased the Cali Ray at your recommendation and I’ve been impressed with it. Best volume so far of the tubing mascaras that’s I’ve tried so far.
I’m obsessed with tubing mascaras. The one I like at the moment is Clinique lash power. If any better ones please let me know. Want the false lash look but not clumpy
Very thorough evaluation, Dana! You have great lashes (and brows), so mascara is just the "icing on the cake", so to speak. Thanks for all the wear and tear on your eyes to film them all.
I have mixed before but tend to not, but that’s just me. No, there’s nothing bad about them, just be gentle when removing, but that goes for normal mascara too
Dana have you tried eyeko mascaras? I've heard that all their mascaras are tubing (or at least they used to be a couple of years ago?). I've ordered the Black Magic Cocoa Edit in brown - I'll let you know if it's actually tubing!
Thank you so much for testing all these. I've been using loreal double extend for at least 5 years now and recently stepped over to sensai 38° when it was on sale. Its so much better than the loreal one but its definitely pricy. I also tried the maybelline snapscara and got so annoyed that it wasn't tubing! I might try the waterproof version in the future haha! Sky high was a massive failure though, as wonderful the brush is, it left flakes and smudges throughout the day and did not remove in tubes. Sadly since I'm in the EU I can't try some of the brands you mentioned, I want thrive so bad!
That was one that I really wanted to get but I think on Amazon it was like $60 and I just couldn’t do it. One day, if I can find it for a cheaper price! It’s so funny how different mascaras are for everyone. The sky high has never done me wrong 😅
Thanks for this video! Which one would you say is the best for holding a curl if that was the only criteria? I don’t care about volume or length or ease of use, I only care about what will get my stick straight lashes to hold a curl after I use my eyelash curler. Thanks! PS I did watch the video three times but there was so much information that I can’t quite tell out of the ones that you mentioned would be good at holding a curl which one would be the ultimate
That’s fair-there was A LOT of info and I knew I might get overwhelming. I’m assuming you use a lash curler first? If yes, I would say any of the smaller wands with a lighter formula work well for holding a curl. So like the DHC, Clinique, or MAC. I didn’t have it in this video but I’ve seen other videos where people love how the Glossier mascara holds a curl. It is quite light and natural and I think that type of formula is key for holding a curl. Heavier/wetter formulas are too much and the curl falls. Hope that helps!
@@DanaRipperton Thanks so much! I didn’t mean it as a criticism at all, I appreciate thorough reviews with lots of info and I have no problem with long videos. I was just wondering if, out of the ones that are best at holding a curl, if there was a clear winner if that were they only criteria without other attributes being a factor. I also wanted you to know that I had watched the video and wasn’t just trying to skip it and just make you spoonfeed me the info. I really appreciate the work you put into this! oh and yes I do you use an eyelash curler but my eyelashes literally point downward without one so they tend to return to that position after only about one hour.
I had never heard of tubing mascara until today when I viewed a Facebook ad for Thrive mascara. I guess I'm definitely behind the times, but maybe it's because I quit wearing mascara about ten years ago because it just wouldn't stay on my lashes and I would have terrible raccoon eyes. I guess it's because my eyes tear a LOT. And as I learned from your video, I was probably using brands that were too wet or volumizing. Anyway, I did a search on TH-cam and found your video. I think that all the mascaras you liked the least actually looked the best to me lol. I think because I prefer the definition/natural look over the voluminous look for myself, although I don't think I ever really knew that until I watched your video! I had tried so MANY mascaras and always disliked the ones that were super thick or wet or that had fat or curved applicators (I have fine lashes and I never realized there were so many differences in mascaras!). I've also never been one to be able to splurge on the better brands and usually have settled for drug store makeups since I can remember, so that doesn't help. This video explained a lot for me and I think helped me to understand what I even want in a mascara. I think I will try some of the brands that you said are drier and more defining. That, coupled with it being a tubing mascara, may finally make it possible for me to wear mascara again (and actually have eyes that look awake lol). Great video! Thanks!
Such a great video!! I subscribed after just a few seconds of the video because this is seriously comprehensive!! Super impressed by the volume of mascaras you tried.
Great video! I’m on the hunt for the perfect tubing mascara so this was so helpful🙏🤩! My dream mascara is the Thrive one but it’s not possible to buy it in Europe unfortunately. I like the No7 but would like a more spectacular one🤗. Thanks again💕!
I would say any of the ones that have a smaller wand, so the DHC, Kevyn Aucoin, Clinique, Mac. I also love the Maybelline sky high for definition. If you don’t build it up as much, you can get definition with less volume
Not sure which one to get yet but I do know I appreciated all your hard work you put into this. Think your channel will grow, especially with consistency. Thanks.

This is a great comprehensive, tubing mascara breakdown. It's so interesting how people have such different preferences for mascara. For me I loves the em cosmetics mascara and hated the Totally Tubular one. I have a feeling I would also not like the Thrive one based on the heaviness of the formula. @Dana Ripperton the only one I didn't see on this list that other make up lovers recommended to me was the LA Girl Volumatic, about $5 at target. Molded plastic brush that has flexibility. Very voluminous outcome... false lash look. On the first try worked great, but I went back to finish my trusty Boots Stay perfect. I found the loreal mascara horrible and will never purchase it again. It flakes toward the end of the day, is way too light, and runs out quickly. For just under $15 it's not worth the price in my mind.
Wow. You did it, Dana. May the algorithm bless you for this work.
