Micah is unironically one of my favourite villains. His voice actor, Peter Blomquist, was also the VA for Dr. Fontaine in L.A. Noire. So definitely not his first rodeo with building a complex villain.
He is not hated because he is badly written, he is hated because he’s the perfect villain. Something you have to admit Micah is just evil and manipulative. He ultimately killed the (imo) best gaming character ever. He first just seemed like a ruthless guy but then you realize he would do ANYTHING if it meant he could survive. He is just a hateable and incredibly written character. I love RDR2
Micah is that nameless cowboy thug npc we fire at throughout the entire playthrough without batting an eye, except hes inextricably linked to the gang.
That's very sweet, thank you 😊 I'm glad you enjoy the videos. Next one will be a bit different. I really enjoyed working on the one about what you can learn from a game, and wanted to do smth in a similar style.
Rockstar did such an amazing job of keeping Micah just shy of the point of being irredeemable for most of the story that if I had seen him kick the camp dog in my playthrough that would've been enough for me to peg him as irredeemable.
Haha 😄 I had a pretty long convo with a buddy of mine about the definition of what it means to have a character you love to hate and how you even define it. I hope it comes across well in this one.
Bro Satan would be proud of him There's no one more evil than Satan As a matter of fact, Satan is influencing the entire humanity to doing sins, and that includes the Van der Lin gang
Micah Bell is so perfectly done, it’s maddening. Greatness all around. Strong antagonists are rare to come by over the past several decades. They got Micah done perfectly.
Imagine if in RDR3 we had an "antagonist" just like Micah but then he suddenly dies somewhere during the second half of the game and it turns out he wasn't the rat
I think Micah never really wanted to betray or rat out the gang. He did it because he was caught. Before and after that all he did was to benefit the gang: As for saving Dutch and how he met him, his gang was very famous so he took the opportunity to impress Dutch and join the greatest gang in the area. As for Blackwater money, I think it was simply a matter of pride, it was his job, it failed so he wanted to retrieve the money. Besides, he had the right to know where the money is since it was his job, and if they all went back if someone died trying to retrieve it he wouldn't care because he's not attached to any of gang members. The strawberry action, he admitted emotions got better of him because of Skinny. And he apologized to Dutch and Arthur both verbally and by doing the coach score with Arthur (which was very profitable compared to others) Making peace with o'driscolls, since there was no point in fighting them especially for Micah because he doesn't have the grudge against them, he doesn't know them taht well. Besides, there's no way Micah set this up. He never cared about o'driscolls, killed lots of them and took no issue with it. And he even apologizes to Arthur saying he made a fool of himself, trying to be tactical and falling for this trap. In Rhodes he pretty much saved Arthur and Bill because they were shocked when Sean got shot but Micah immediately killed the attackers giving boys time to hide. As for the return from Guarma. I think pinkertons just captured him, he led them to camp in Lagras and that's it, because for the rest of the game he just listens to Dutch's orders, makes plans with him, kills pinkertons and never contacts them again. He just wanted to hide his another mistake and blame it on Arthur and John so that he becomes Dutch's favorite. In beaver hollow he even tries to act like Dutch, he gives a speech about faith in the plan, he's the only one who supports Dutch during his speeches, no wonder he got closer and closer with him. In the end, he wanted to get close to Dutch because he saw the potential in sticking with the best gang there was, while he was pushing Dutch to more profitable (and more dangerous) jobs for higher profit. And in the end the whole train job with getting army and indians to fight each other worked perfectly, and it was a plan both Dutch and Micah made. Only thing that didn't work was Arthur telling everyone the truth. If that didn't happen, the gang would leave beaver hollow (as they were doing just before arthur got there) and get away with all the money. And the proof that he never intended to betray Dutch is in the epilogue. All those years later and he never tried to track Dutch down and hand him over to pinkertons, they both went for the money from Blackwater and both got back, so it was no set-up. He made his own gang, and it was Dutch who reunited with Micah. But in the end Dutch's plan was to kill Micah (its when John asks "what are you doin here Dutch" and Dutch replied "Same as you I suppose" hinting that Dutch just needed Micah to get the money and kill him after that for the betrayal and manipulation). What's also interesting is that Micah tried to be friends with Arthur since Arthur was the strongest gunslinger in the group. He tried time and time again being nice to Arthur (there are a lot of camp interactions of him approaching Arthur and just saying "Oh hey there brother", and he's rarely nice to others) but it didn't work so when Arthur got sick no wonder Micah didn't care and wanted to replace him. And yet he gave Arthur one last chance trying to convice him to be on the same team simply by saying "stick with me and you'll live". It's funny as well that Micah is the one who donates most money to the camp besides from Javier and Arthur (obviously), so he wasn't all selfish. And it really justifies his despise of other gang members like Swanson or Uncle who don't really do anything, they don't bring money yet they profit from all the supplies. Just goes to show that Micah wasn't all evil and he had some principle, you're a part of this group, you gotta earn your share, bring money. I wish he played a bigger role in chapter 4 because he's just kinda there but he doesn't do much, he's not a part of any story mission, he's got just the one companion activity, the coach robbery. Micah is much more than "just a villain and hater", great character although I didn't like the fact that he betrayed the gang. It would've been better if he was just a devil on Dutch's shoulder making him more and more crazy/violent.
I think the fact that Arthur has unlimited charisma made people not realize that Micah is also very charismatic and sometimes funny too. His biggest issue is that he was the villain to one of the most beloved characters in videogames. Personally I think of him as some sort of wild west Joker (the old joker not the newest ones)

Genuinely one of the best insights into the story of Red Dead 2 I’ve ever seen. I’ve been playing for years and have countless playthroughs and this has added more depth in my view of the plot in the 6 years it’s been out than anything else. Absolutely subbing💯
I think one of the best ways his character is highlighted is by his change, or rather, lack therof. 27:10 " "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called" ...Well. However it goes." On replaying this game for 100% completion, this line in particular stuck out to me. For those unfamiliar, it's from the Beatitudes which can be found in the New Testament of the Bible during the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew. This is also where "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness" comes from. The full quote is "Blessed are the Peacemakers, for they shall be called Sons of God." Which Micah most certainly is not. This implies two things, either Micah is fully aware of the whole verse, and very self-awarely does not identify himself as a Son of God (As he is doing in this moment, by being a peacemaker in proposing a parley between the O'Driscolls and the Van der Linde Gang). Or that he does not know the entire verse because he is that wicked and sullied. Either explanation could be true and it would lend more credence and depth to Micah's character. Really clever stuff going on in the writing of this game.
i’m sort of a collector when i play these type of games and after the strawberry mission i knew for sure i wanted to add micahs pistols to my collection
Arthur and Micah might be the most like “they are evil” and “they are good” in a piece of fiction where the characters are meant to be in a grey area of “are they evil or not?”
Iago is such a perfect example for micah however where Iago is charming Micah is swarmmy. Micah is Dutch's Circe a puppeteer that exposes Dutch's true nature
I love the symbolism of Arthur and Micah’s outfits. Micah wears a white hat and a red shirt. A white hat is often associated with good, and red is often associated with bloodshed and violence. This shows how Micah puts on the exterior of someone who cares about Dutch and the gang, even though deep down he only wants to survive and doesn’t care about others. On the contrary, Arthur wears a black hat, often associated with the bad guy in Westerns, and blue is often associated with life and benevolence. This shows that while on the surface Arthur seems like a ruthless outlaw, deep down he is a caring and selfless person who defends the people he loves. So, while Micah pretends to care even though deep down he is a psychopath with barely any morals, Arthur pretends to be cold and unfeeling even though deep down he is a sensitive man who wants the best for others.
Micah's biggest flaw (or strength) is that he played the villain to one of the most beloved protagonists in videogames history. You don't have Joker without batman and viceversa
Something interesting about villains is that you are supposed to hate them. Yet I often see that is not the case. But I've never seen such a true hate for Micah. It makes me sad because I wanted to like him because he wanted to be friends with Arthur its just that they are so different.
"You know boys there ain't no being saved.... ain't no being lost. Them fights was over long ago or never happened was only invented to make you feel something out of nothing. Makes no difference, ain't sure nothing makes a difference. Cant see how. Tide come in, Tide goes out. You was born, you die. In-between you... do what you do. Ain't no good, ain't no bad, just.... things! Things that make you feel good, or that make you feel sad and just the length of time between being born and dying. That's. All. There. Is. Ain't no old man judging man. Ain't no heaven. And maybe there is damnation... but I think I know what that'll be like, and I'm gonna be right at home there. and that's it. See it for what the hell it is. "
This missable camp monologue probably gives the player the most insight into Micah's nihilistic world view. He's a deeply troubled man. The bread crumbs you get of his backstory tell you that his father was like the man he is now, and his own brother never wants to see him again going as far as to write in a reply letter "Do not claim you know me. If I hear you are within fifty miles of me, I will come and find you and then you'll meet your maker and apologise to him on both our behalves for them things we did. None of this should come to you as news. I was shocked to receive your letter. Do not write to me again." I'd like to think that the Micah we meet at the beginning of the game does actually desire family since it is implied that he reached out to his brother first. Dutch having what seems to be a savior complex probably does see this in him early on, but because of Micah's actions and the man he is (someone who despises vulnerability) he would probably struggle to connect with the others. More over Michah at first does seem to have a level of respect for Arthurs strength, and jealousy towards Arthurs relationships with the rest of the gang especially Dutch.
Hate him all you want but his logic of winners and losers goes hard and makes sense while his entire unhinged outlaw character is badass along with the promotional art for him
I don't hate micah like the rest. He is what he said he is, a survivor. Back then the only outlaws that survived were people who were brutal. Good outlaws existed, it's just that they never survived for long enough.
Personally i cant think of a more hateable villian than judge holden from blood meridian. One of the only characters to make my skin crawl just from written word.
Umbridge, Pettigrew and Micah are the three I hate the most. Azula is one I want to give a hug. Micah reminds me of Pettigrew who can actually fight he isnt a coward buf he is a slimeball its different from the rest of the gang because John and Arthur were raised under the guise of being Robinhood. Umbridge is so easy to hate because she treats people like delusional children and is an awful human being. Pettigrew is a coward.

Most hated villain? What are you talking about? This title only belongs to one character and that is Abby Lets be honest we all hated Micah at the end and we got our revenge in American Venom But in The Last Of Us Part 2 , we hated Abby from the start , played half the game as her , and couldn't even kill her at the end
I mean you gotta hand it to the guy, he is what he claims, a survivor. He played that gang and Dutch especially like a fiddle. I can respect the hustle, even if it is f-ing evil. It's the wild west, eat or be eaten. What I can't stand, is that he had to be such a damn a**hole about it. 😂
I hate what that game did to the fanbase as a whole. On one side you have the people that reject any aspect of it to the point of bitterness and hatred. On the other you have the equally annoying fans of it that are completely convinced that they’re sages of emotional intelligence for grasping very basic surface level concepts.
Here are the reasons why I love Micah Bell and I don’t hate him Firstly Micah Bell is a bad man there is no doubt. But out of all the gang members Micah Bell is the only gang member who doesn't have the Robin Hood saviour complex. Micah Bell fully embraces the fact that he is an Outlaw while the gang lie to themselves that they're Robin Hoods just to make themselves feel like they're noble when they are just a pile of scumbags. Micah Bell as cruel as it may sound is ultimately the true harsh reality of the Wild West and the personification of it. While Arthur is the romanticised version of the Wild West, I find it strange how people will want to be coddled with Arthur but can stand Micah who is the true Outlaw. Micah isn't even any different to the gang as at the end of the day they are all a bunch of murders. Yeah they may be more tamer than Micah but this doesn't mean they don't have skeletons in their closets. A lot of people tend to complain about how Micah Bell is a racist. This a fact Micah Bell is racist but more or less he is racist to be spiteful in my eyes. Plus this shouldn't be a suprise the game is set in 1899 where racism would be vibrant. Bill a camp member is quite racist towards Lenny the African American with his racial undertones with 'boy'. Plus Micah's racism isn't as bad as the rest other villains in the game such as Leviticus Cornwall and Colonels Favours, those racist colonisers are men want to expel Rains Falls people from the Reservation area to mine for gold, plus Favours even mocks Rains Falls chief name. A lot of people also bring up the fact that Micah tends to hit on woman and this is true. But I don't think he actually means to be spiteful 100% everyday. For instance in a camp encounter he will nervously ask out Mary-Beth to a dance. Of course tho Mary Rejected him.
Im gonna be honnest, I preffer Antagonists like GLaDOS, or the icon of sin. With Micah he just seems like a guy betraying his group for his own good. I hate him, but thats what makes him so good. You like hating this character, you can feel the sane with the other characters I named but they are meant to be intimidating and something to also like. GLaDOS for instance is redeemable, Micah is pure evil. He does anything for his own gain. And tough that doesnt make him like the other antagonists, likeable on some level, its what makes him realistic. True vilians care for only their own gain. I only can name a few characters who do that, those being Jack Horner and Loki. Micah is that character whos realism makes you feel real hate to him. And tough I still think GLaDOS is a better vilian, Rockstar knew what would work best for RDR2'S vilian.
He's over hated simply because ppl love Arthur and can't forgive him Arthur. Micah isn't even the worst person in the game. He's not even straight up evil, he's just twisted and broken. One of the best characters, smart, not a coward, and the closest to the real outlaw in the game.
To be clear. Your videos are awesome. But you can absolutely and should judge people on their actions when they are proven to be evil over and over. Micah isnt smarter than the rest of the gang. It actually isnt logical to be solely focused on self preservation. Like you can understand the mindset sure but it isnt actually a good way of living. You know?

Both can be appreciated for what they are in their respective mediums.
there are plenty of nods to blood meridian in rdr2.
Judge is surely more vile and satanic. But people don't hate him more than Micah.
There is no more evil character in fictions than Judge.
@@micahbell9591 He's surely more evil. But Micah is more hated.
And Dimitri Rascalov in GTA 4!
Yeah, he's quite a piece

when Micah says "Arthurs been dead a long time" in American Venom Dutch looks at Micah and you can tell thats the main reason that he killed Micah.
I sympathize with Micha he's not a rat and I'll die on that hill
*stabs* you said so, you'd die on this hill
@The1bluespy I'M A SURVIVOR BLACK LUNG A SURVIVOR
Micha was an informant plain and simple.
Great point, and well put ❤️
@ Thanks! Great video, by the way.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
All the villains you mentioned at the start cause a visceral reaction from me.
Yeah, it took a while to select them. There aren't that many villains that fall under "villains you love to hate" feeling.
This is a really good video was shocked to see the view count
Thank you for the kind words 😊
Paranoid schizophrenia. Simple as that
Micah was hated because he was mean to Arthur.
Arthur Represents The Exaggerated Version Of The Wild West While Micah Represents The Real Wild West.
The only reason why he the most hated villain because he was one of the best villains in gaming
He's definitely one of the best. I hope it was clear in the video that "villains you love to hate" is basically a compliment 😅
@@ViciousTNT like I said rdr2 & rdr1 did the best job of best villains in gaming
Great watch
Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
Hate him all you want but his logic of winners and losers goes hard and makes sense while his entire unhinged outlaw character is badass along with the promotional art for him
Micah is a great antagonist. But when it comes to the most hated? That just tells me you haven’t experienced much fiction in general.
I started hating Micah when he was being creepy to Sadie in the first mission
The most hated villian you've seen?
Just wait till you find out about Erebus... Fuck Erebus
I don't hate micah like the rest. He is what he said he is, a survivor. Back then the only outlaws that survived were people who were brutal. Good outlaws existed, it's just that they never survived for long enough.
5:24 I never saw that scene in my playthrough????
Weird
Wooooow. Pretend? He pretends he's not a sneaky rat the whole time.... seriously?
Personally i cant think of a more hateable villian than judge holden from blood meridian. One of the only characters to make my skin crawl just from written word.
Hey my man not every video you make needs to be a banger with thousands of views. You’re making the other guys look bad
Griffith from Berserk
Legendary character 🙌
Which is worse, Micah or Ralphie in the Sopranos?

But it's better than the shit I came out of (junkie)
So I'm happy enough with it, also rdr2 was literally what saved me 6 years ago pretty much after I got out of the bs mentioned above, I was lost - but determined.
I randomly bought rdr2 and played it non stop ..heck, to this very day, never in my life has a game taught me so much, changed me so much for the better.
Thanks for the awesome videos!me a smoker who knows it will 95% kill me!

Most hated villain?
What are you talking about?
This title only belongs to one character and that is Abby
Lets be honest we all hated Micah at the end and we got our revenge in American Venom
But in The Last Of Us Part 2 , we hated Abby from the start , played half the game as her , and couldn't even kill her at the end
Micah is actually cool. Abbey is annoying as Hell.
Honestly I think Abby from the last of us is the most hated villain of all time 😂
I hate what that game did to the fanbase as a whole. On one side you have the people that reject any aspect of it to the point of bitterness and hatred. On the other you have the equally annoying fans of it that are completely convinced that they’re sages of emotional intelligence for grasping very basic surface level concepts.
You gotta check out one

To be honest, Micah would’ve been one of my favorite red dead redemption characters if he wasn’t racist
Here are the reasons why I love Micah Bell and I don’t hate him
Firstly Micah Bell is a bad man there is no doubt.
Of course tho Mary Rejected him.
the gang was simply manipulated by Dutch into thinking they're not as bad as they actually are
Im gonna be honnest, I preffer Antagonists like GLaDOS, or the icon of sin.
WAS YOU FOLLOWED
Micah and Griffith did none wrong fr
You should read berserk
black lung
Stealing a thumbnail isn’t cool but good video
Micah is the second most hated fictional character of all time behind only one Delores Jane Umbridge
She's brutal 😅
You know?
He's misunderstood he just wants to survive
lol
He hates red dead redemption 2
i was the thousandth like!

I'm forever comparing those two. Both great villains. But Ralphie is far worse.
