My dad passed from cancer in March of 2018, he’d been fighting for 16 months. He never shared how he was feeling and but on a brave face. The story of Arthur I experienced later that year helped me understand what my dad was going through.
March 2017 was when I lost my father to cancer those last 7 months were the closest we have ever been it’s kinda sad because up until then we weren’t too too close but we were still chilling but that time he had left he used to be with me and my mom knowing he didn’t have much left he told me he had 2-3 years before it got him but he was lying to save me the burden of knowing the loss coming early 2 years later my mother passed away I carry being stone cold but also having a heart I carry both of them with me still to this day
Same here man, I also thought that, when Arthur gets told he doesn't have long to live, I understood clearly how my dad felt when he was told he had weeks from blood cancer. All the best to you man, genuinely
RDR2 legit changed my life. It changed the way I see the world in a way. It inspired me to do good things and not expect anything, just spread good throughout this awful world.
Cyberpunk 2077 made me realize I don't wish to be dead, but Red Dead Redemption 2 made me understand that sometimes there's a greater good that we have to be willing to die for.
Apart from calling my friends fellers, i started going camping with them, i learnt to play the harmonica, i started fishing more, spending time by myself, journalling and drawing for the first time since school killed my interest in art. All of this was inspired by RDR2. It also probably set me up to be kinder and more generous.
"I'm dying sister..." That was the expression of redemption, the best moment to me, so simple with birds singing in the background, and ambivalence feeling of happy and sad at the same time.
RDR 2 is one of the very few games that managed to push me or made me feels that doing "good" things are more rewarding and satisfying than destroy everything in your path. Ofc, being bad in RDR 2 is also fun, experimenting how much the people and world around the player reacts to our bad deeds are interesting in it's own way. Gotta love character who try their best to be better than yesterday despite how flawed and imperfect they are
Red dead redemption 2 taught me that no matter how much stuff life throws at you, you should always keep going forward and never look back, the interaction between sister Calderón and arthur throughout the game was beautiful and almost made me cry
My friend explained RDR2 to me like this, by the following experience of his cousin: at the start of RDR2: Hell yeah! Cowboy time! Let‘s rob people! at the end of RDR2: What is the meaning of life? and I think that‘s pretty accurate
@@djoeke2675 As for myself, I started thinking like a leader and not a follower. I realized that good times don't last forever and to make the most of them while I can. I learned that the world is always changing, and so are the people in it. I learned of my own insignificance. I definitely changed after playing RDR2
This is a video to send to your parents who say that “video games are mindless and they dont teach you anything”. Perfect to prove a point. Very well made ❤
This game had a deep impact on me. It made me want to be a better person. It made me want to be a better husband, father, son, brother, and friend. It’s been five years and I’m doing better than I did before, but every once in a while I’m not the best. Yesterday one of my uncles passed away and it hit me hard. This video just helped me feel better. Thank you, I hope you have a beautiful life.
Haven’t watched much of the video, but I wanted to say that rdr2 has taught me more than one thing. I’m restarting the game (I’ve never finished it and am attempting again) and it’s become very apperent that one of the messages this game sends is “to be careful of who you decide to trust” and to “be aware of any other possible outcomes when interacting with people” More than once I judged just by body language in that game that someone was either nervous, or calculated. I’ve determined if they are actually asking of help or have an ulterior motive. A good example is the random mexican robbery encounter on your way north into the coldest regions. Just watching how he spoke when asking for help and his body language already put me off. But then he started approaching me for no reason. So I was ready when he pulled a gun. Shot him dead right between the eyes then and there. And I’m sure everyone knows Micah that’s why I gave this example here. I’m a high honor player so killing isn’t my first choice, but i also know that in a dangerous world it has to be your second option. If they won’t back down peacefully and walk away well then they won’t like the 4lb revolver in my holster. Another thing it taught is to also take into account a persons situation before making action. Such as in Saint Denis. There is a beggar who is blind, except he isn’t actually blind. He’s faking it for pity to make money. Which yes deceiving people isn’t okay. He’s also flat broke and can barely feed himself. So I decided to give him some cash but also showed him that some people won’t be as forgiving as I am if they figure it out.
The game came out in 2018, so 19 year old me experienced it in a different POV then how I experience now whenever I play and finish the game. I think one of the most rewarding and insightful things about the game is to see how your moral compass has changed/or not changed over the years. In that sense, the game’s replay-ability is unmatched.
One thing I really love is channels that have very few subs that make long, incredibly well made videos. It really shows how you’re not doing this for profit or anything, you’re just doing it because you love making videos. Keep up the good work!
I think the reason i cried so much during red dead is because I relate so much to Arthur. Like him, in my childhood I was always running to save a burning ship. And thru being a people pleaser, much like Arthur. I tried to keep the wrong people happy far to long, and I did things I am ashamed of because i couldn't say no to my peers, or i just didn't idk. Now I'm trying to just be there for those who really matter, I could do better but I'm trying to be responsible and not fuck things up because I'm trying to play both sides. Unlike Arthur tho, I am not dead. I get a chance our beloved arthur rightly deserved, something to be grateful for.
Even when \i was playing as Arthur in RDR2 , I have always looked for the Missions and never looked for the smaller missions, now in the epilogue IO felt bad that I could've played more with Arthur.
I once found myself in the jungle in the middle of central Africa, you won't believe how much training this game gave me, so the answer is absolutely yes
The second a game starts to make you cry, I think it transcends its medium. It's less, the movie or game is really good, and more, you found a personal connection to the game and that connection allows you to FEEL what the writers want you to feel, it allows you to think as if you're one with Arthur, and you find yourself rooting for this man, trying to help him live a fulfilling life. Because at the end of the day, that's the only goal there is.
i learned from rdr2 story that you can get betrayd by the close people that they are around you i mean like dutch did to arthur and the second thing is when you help people and give and make good things to people you will live and die like men
TH-cam recommended me your rdr2 videos and i cant believe you only started a year ago, and that you dont have more subs, here is one more from me for what it's worth. Looking forward to seeing your channel grow
Sometimes I will go for a long drive and memories will come to me, things I said, things said to me, regrets, cherished moments, dangerous times, all that jazz. Sometimes it makes me sad, thinking about the coming end and what I've yet to do, sometimes it settles my emotions by reminding me that I've done good here. Walking that path with Arthur hit me hard. Hearing the voices of his past come to him in those last moments, feeling something I know all too well. It hit me like a ton of bricks. This is where the cowboy would ride away.
3:00 the part you said about the truth we often ignore and how our future may not unfold the way we'd like it to just hit something in me man. let's just say that i work in a popular industry and i have worked so hard to get a step up the ladder to success that i often neglected my real relationships and nurtured fake relationships. Was so focused on the goal that I didn't take time to slow down and take a look around me. then i realized how lonely I was when I started having health issues and everyone I called my friends went on with their lives without me but I don't blame them because everybody has the right to pursue their dreams. I just wish I wasn't so rude towards the people who I consider my real friends but ehh... that's life and you live and learn. I just wish I knew this eariler.
I learned A LOT about history from Age of Empires 1 and 2 and a game called A Bridge Too Far. Those old games came with whole essays on historical topics. It really spurred my interest and to this day I love history. Have a couple hundred books on the world wars, antiquity, and American history. Triple AAA games ain’t what they used to be.
Really enjoyed that. I’ve always loved the fact that Arthur is not the main character of the story, even in his own mind, at first. He thinks he’s the, “second heavy from the left,” in Dutch’s gang and that’s it. As he grows into a better person he becomes the main character, even to himself, with a mission of importance that reaches beyond his own life, his desires and becomes about saving a family.
The interaction between Dutch and Arthur in regards to John being freed is a perfect scene showing Arthur believed in the values Dutch raised him with but Dutch, the very person who instilled those values did not actually believe in those values. Ironic Dutch brought up loyalty there, trying to gaslight Arthur, after Arthur just engaged in an act of loyalty. It's a shame in RD1 John didn't put the bullet in Dutch's skull. Not only would have been justified but MAYBE would have decreased the chance of Ross turning on him which led to Jack becoming an outlaw
Through RDR2, I actually learned to more respect nature and history. And the beauty of the world we live in. Not just how to play a cowboy and kill a whole town Best purchase I’ve ever made
"Can You Learn Anything From a Game?" We've grown enough to see games come from pure entertainment into novels that change our vision of the world. Red Dead Redemption is one of them. Thanks, Rockstar. And you, Vicious TNT. Your channel will grow, I promise that. I got this video in recommendations, so the progress is here. Don't stop. So, yes. You truly CAN learn something from a game.
The past few Assassin’s Creed games have history tours that you can take about the real world at that time, I played one in Origins about ancient Egypt
Absolutely incredible video wow. Been playing games/consuming media all my life (films, tv shows etc) and nothing has made me think about life more than rdr2 it is an absolute masterpiece
This game gave me like a sense of appreciation for the things around me and the world around me it gave me a sense of purpose at the same time and if you don’t look around you can miss it Also you earned a sub today Great video man ❤
red dead redemption 2 taught me morality. And just how important it is to understand where you stand by it, and process in life how much good and bad have you done. Because it lets you make a choice for the betterment for yourself and others. And letting me know why it’s important to be good to others.
Rdr2 teaches you how to live, is a life leason about what matters, how to deal will lost, grief, what is important: family, love, friends, also morality, be good, and the acts of that.
the way you articulate your thoughts is amazing, im halfway through chapter 6 and i love doing 2 things drinking coffee and waiting to beat up micah, but you do a great job of explaining the message behind the story in an interesting way and i like listening to you.
Watching this video is a great way for my grieving process, since i've ended chapter 6 just yesterday. I've done a great honerable job by making this! Thank you!
Really impressive. I think your writing and voice work are at their best so far. The video rises to inspirational and there’s a lot to take from it about life and relationships. Awesome stuff
There a few games that can bring generations together or actually relate w/ the death from an illness or bad decisions as well as those regrets which haunt us until we die. If you have been told how long you have left to live etc. it truly changes you in one way or another ..the morality system is creepily accurate in some regards. When you know your dying.. its a funny thing
@@ViciousTNT It was "said" by this video th-cam.com/video/cna0VuGH4OM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VFbK3obbfllFA2LT im not sure if its his or someone elses besides is a great video anyways
RDR2 is the best game I have played in my life. I have no words to describe the beauty of this game. I was trying to make a good video to explain the beauty of this game, but man you have nailed it. Out of all other RDR2 videos ,this is so unique and beautifully made
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊 The next video will also be more experimental (not similar to this one) but in connection with RDR 2. Would love to hear your thoughts once it is out.
I had to watch this video in three sittings, firstly because I was doing homework and I'd better enjoy a video with full attention later than essentially slow down my progress, secondly because I had to come back from my grandma's apartment, and thirdly because I went to cry to my bed amazing video, I love this game and it really made me think a lot, I still haven't finished yet but I will hydrate myself for the ending
I normally dont comment videos, but channels and videos like yours, really let me hope there is still some amazing content on TH-cam Great work, keep it up
Everything in this video is so well-put. You did an amazing job explaining all these statements in a simple yet interesting way. Glad I stumbled upon your channel
bit busy to watch the video atm but i gotta say this, the persona series is life changing. after finishing persona 3 reload and The Answer DLC, i genuienely feel much better equipped to handle loss and grief in my own life. the persona series is life changing, through and through.
Before even watching this video, i feel like most story driven games have a moral lesson, and i would argue one could learn a life lesson from a game. especially kids when i played red dead 2 on launch at 13 that shit hurt harder than my mom on report card day.
I’ve watched more than a dozen of different video essays on RDR2 from various content creators and by far this is the best one I’ve seen. What the heck? How are this channel and this video not more well-known and widely praised? This man’s depth of his own original analysis and his width of knowledge of other media sources (just how many different literature works, historical facts and figures, modern films and tv shows were displayed as references) to establish his arguments is bewildering. The fact that he moved from a rural suburb to Denmark makes me think his native tongue is not even English (also his accent is telling) and yet the way he can articulate his thoughts and philosophies in more eloquent manner better than most native English speakers is just astonishing. How? Bravo. Just truly phenomenal work. Instant like and subscribe. I dare-guess you’re an astonishing media critique, not in just games? Is that what you studied in? Philosophies? Media and literature arts?
friend: this is one of the most incredible videos / reflection pieces i’ve ever watched, and one of the best ways i’ve ever seen anyone successfully expand on the fact that video games are more than just “games” thank you endlessly for creating this ♡ your mind is incredible. watching this has caused my love for red dead-and video games in general-to grow even bigger (which i never thought possible!) keep this up, friend :) you’re gifted and doing great things for the gaming community, and those needing a little pick-me-up and some guidance (you’re also helping keep the rdr2 love alive, so thank you so much for that alone lol)
A game usually has a story, and with every good story, you can take something from it. Even from games without a story you can learn things, like coordination or organization. Do you know those bad MMOs? In some of them if you fail to upgrade your item, it will be destroyed. The mechanic is to make you buy things that prevents the losing of the item, but it also teach you that nothing in life is guaranteed and sometimes you have to take the L and start over.
Unrelated but to the main topic, I definitely think you can, I learned about the time period assassin's Creed 3 was set in And when I was in my history classes at the time I was able to actually reference the time period in history stuff that I had learned
I sure wasn't expecting something this good. Been subscribed and following your videos for a while, and each time you manage to put out amazing thought-provoking stuff. Definitely keep at it, loving your channel. ❤
the first video i watched on this channel is called "The Greatest Protagonist I've Ever Experienced" 44 minutes .... it was a master piece ! i downloaded every rdr2 video just so i can watch offline when im not home thanks for making this ART !
This is a great video and RDR2 has amazing story telling and vibes. I think many things can be learned from many different videogames, if only you let it. I find it a pity when people dont take games serious as a medium as they dont want to be open to the things a game can show as its unique medium.
Only halfway through but this video is so far amazing, very relaxing, I haven't played this game and don't even have a gaming console or gaming pc, but seems like I got to sort that out some day.
About the "second family" part - Arthur hasn't really chosen Dutch and the gang, but rather they chose him, since he was a 14 years old orphan when Dutch and Hosea picked him up and turned him into one of them. The story of Red Dead does show how people can change and outgrow the old bonds, being opened to creating new ones - just like Arthur and John that basically became brothers at the end. Moreover, Arthur helped John to escape the Dutch's cult-like narrative as well and realize that Abigail and Jack are the REAL family he got. The second one, actually - the one that would make John truly happy. Man, this game is something else...
First started RDR2, got bored so quickly in Colter, after I got so absorbed into Arthur's life story, I couldn't help but start bawling at the end. I wanted to go back so much after Epilogue Part I
24:40 missed opportunity to put Dutch's legendary "We can't Fight change... We can't fight gravity" from RDR 1 (better version imo as it illustrates the importance of accepting change and hard truths) or 2 as a full piece, not just a background image at 28:20 Awesome vid btw, a really deep analysis of the value of this game and not just it's story. Worth showing your parents/grandparents/friends/kids who don't see the value games/movies/books *may* have

It's a shame in RD1 John didn't put the bullet in Dutch's skull.
Not only would have been justified but MAYBE would have decreased the chance of Ross turning on him which led to Jack becoming an outlaw
Wow. This is one of the most impactful video essays I've seen. Fantastic work.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
When he said "...Diagnosis of Tuberculosis..." Bars.
Lol, that was an accident 😄
Through RDR2, I actually learned to more respect nature and history. And the beauty of the world we live in.
Not just how to play a cowboy and kill a whole town
Best purchase I’ve ever made
That's a good one. If there's a game that makes you stop and just take it all in, it's Red Dead 2.
"Can You Learn Anything From a Game?"
We've grown enough to see games come from pure entertainment into novels that change our vision of the world.
Red Dead Redemption is one of them. Thanks, Rockstar.
And you, Vicious TNT. Your channel will grow, I promise that. I got this video in recommendations, so the progress is here. Don't stop.
So, yes. You truly CAN learn something from a game.
Thank you for the kind words ❤️
after playing rdr2, i allways hear the good honor sound effect after i did something good haha
Haha, sound effects make life better 😄
The past few Assassin’s Creed games have history tours that you can take about the real world at that time, I played one in Origins about ancient Egypt
Tell me, exactly how much did you retain from the game in comparison to how much you could learn actually studying Ancient Egyptian history?
Absolutely incredible video wow. Been playing games/consuming media all my life (films, tv shows etc) and nothing has made me think about life more than rdr2 it is an absolute masterpiece
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it ❤️
Agreed
This game gave me like a sense of appreciation for the things around me and the world around me it gave me a sense of purpose at the same time and if you don’t look around you can miss it
Also you earned a sub today
Great video man ❤
Well said 🙌 and I'm glad you enjoyed the video ♥️
red dead redemption 2 taught me morality.
Dude, this is the best RDR2 analysis on TH-cam. Great work. Bravo 👏
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
the way you articulate your thoughts is amazing, im halfway through chapter 6 and i love doing 2 things drinking coffee and waiting to beat up micah, but you do a great job of explaining the message behind the story in an interesting way and i like listening to you.
Watching this video is a great way for my grieving process, since i've ended chapter 6 just yesterday. I've done a great honerable job by making this! Thank you!
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Really impressive. I think your writing and voice work are at their best so far. The video rises to inspirational and there’s a lot to take from it about life and relationships. Awesome stuff
Thank you, I was that sure about this one 😅
There a few games that can bring generations together or actually relate w/ the death from an illness or bad decisions as well as those regrets which haunt us until we die. If you have been told how long you have left to live etc. it truly changes you in one way or another ..the morality system is creepily accurate in some regards. When you know your dying.. its a funny thing
Weather or not you can gain wisdom doesn’t change the fact that you can perceive the characters actions in the game, and that you can learn from.
I learned life is better to spread love and have insight and lend a hand instead of antagonism and war crimes
Dust an Elysian tale has a pretty profound message. No matter how hard you try somethings are just out of your control.
Life after death is just that life

I couldn't find the author of it, who said it?
@@ViciousTNT It was "said" by this video th-cam.com/video/cna0VuGH4OM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=VFbK3obbfllFA2LT im not sure if its his or someone elses besides is a great video anyways
Noice, thanks for sharing
@@ViciousTNT 👍
Rdr2 got me through depression ❤
I'm glad you are better now ❤️
RDR2 is the best game I have played in my life. I have no words to describe the beauty of this game. I was trying to make a good video to explain the beauty of this game, but man you have nailed it. Out of all other RDR2 videos ,this is so unique and beautifully made
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
The next video will also be more experimental (not similar to this one) but in connection with RDR 2. Would love to hear your thoughts once it is out.
RDR2 changed my life and made me enjoy all the beautiful things that life offers
That's awesome 🙌
@@ViciousTNT 🙏😀💪
I had to watch this video in three sittings, firstly because I was doing homework and I'd better enjoy a video with full attention later than essentially slow down my progress, secondly because I had to come back from my grandma's apartment, and thirdly because I went to cry to my bed
amazing video, I love this game and it really made me think a lot, I still haven't finished yet but I will hydrate myself for the ending
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video ❤️
And have fun with the rest of the game 😊
I learned that god mode, unlimited ammo, and the goat mask is a vibe.
It definitely is a vibe 😄
I normally dont comment videos, but channels and videos like yours, really let me hope there is still some amazing content on TH-cam
Great work, keep it up
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😊
Everything in this video is so well-put. You did an amazing job explaining all these statements in a simple yet interesting way. Glad I stumbled upon your channel
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Exceptionally made video, RDR2 is a masterpiece in storytelling.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
Funny that every time you're about to escape someone abusing you, they say you're no longer loyal. You can only ever be loyal to ideas, never people
Life is hard. By the time you learn enough about it, you are at least halfway through it.
Facts. Thankfully, there's a beauty in being young and naive as well.
I learned one of the most important life lessons I have been longing for while a now , thank you
bit busy to watch the video atm but i gotta say this, the persona series is life changing. after finishing persona 3 reload and The Answer DLC, i genuienely feel much better equipped to handle loss and grief in my own life. the persona series is life changing, through and through.
Before even watching the video I instaliked and subbed cause I know this takes a lot of effort and also this sounds interesting af. 🤝🏻
Thank you 😊
The game made me realize that happiness comes from a stable life and friends that do dumb things together
Well said 🙌❤️
Before even watching this video, i feel like most story driven games have a moral lesson, and i would argue one could learn a life lesson from a game. especially kids when i played red dead 2 on launch at 13 that shit hurt harder than my mom on report card day.
Haha, well said 😄
Bro just made one of the most heartfelt philosophical and authentic videos I’ve ever seen. You are very underrated.
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
@@ViciousTNT you are definitely going to blow up man. Keep up the good work.
My man, your videos are excellent. You put words to feelings I definitely understood, but didn’t know how to express.
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the videos 😊❤️
God of war, Arkham, Assassin's creed, Halo, Niko and Tommy (GTA) and almost all story games i played had an effect on me as a person.
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
I didn't study either, I just like to read 😅
I learned that the less you care the happier you are.
Yup, that's very true.
friend: this is one of the most incredible videos / reflection pieces i’ve ever watched, and one of the best ways i’ve ever seen anyone successfully expand on the fact that video games are more than just “games”
thank you endlessly for creating this ♡ your mind is incredible. watching this has caused my love for red dead-and video games in general-to grow even bigger (which i never thought possible!)
keep this up, friend :) you’re gifted and doing great things for the gaming community, and those needing a little pick-me-up and some guidance
(you’re also helping keep the rdr2 love alive, so thank you so much for that alone lol)
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video to such extent 😊
man you just made me rethink my entire 17 years of existence over a game that i aint even played.

I finished in low honor because I was a bandit before getting diagnosed with tuberculosis, but I tried to do good after the diagnosis
*this is maybe one of the best videos I've seen in my entire life. Thank you for this!
I sure wasn't expecting something this good. Been subscribed and following your videos for a while, and each time you manage to put out amazing thought-provoking stuff. Definitely keep at it, loving your channel. ❤
Thank you for the kind words and for sticking around this channel 😊
the first video i watched on this channel is called "The Greatest Protagonist I've Ever Experienced" 44 minutes .... it was a master piece !
i downloaded every rdr2 video just so i can watch offline when im not home
thanks for making this ART !
Thank you for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the video 😊
This is a great video and RDR2 has amazing story telling and vibes. I think many things can be learned from many different videogames, if only you let it. I find it a pity when people dont take games serious as a medium as they dont want to be open to the things a game can show as its unique medium.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video ♥️
The music, the edit, the script....
This is an awesome video man!
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. I honestly wasn't sure about this one as it went in a different direction 😅
I learned that I just need time, money, and faith.
Only halfway through but this video is so far amazing, very relaxing, I haven't played this game and don't even have a gaming console or gaming pc, but seems like I got to sort that out some day.
Of course! Rdr has taught us a lot of important lessons.

Keep pushing man, I believe you will grow bigger. Your videos are top notch❤

I wanted to go back so much after Epilogue Part I
Such an underrated video. u must make more vids like this
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed the video ♥️
24:40 missed opportunity to put Dutch's legendary "We can't Fight change... We can't fight gravity" from RDR 1 (better version imo as it illustrates the importance of accepting change and hard truths) or 2 as a full piece, not just a background image at 28:20
Awesome vid btw, a really deep analysis of the value of this game and not just it's story. Worth showing your parents/grandparents/friends/kids who don't see the value games/movies/books *may* have
Good point, I used that cutscene for intro and outro in a video about Dutch, I could've used it here as well.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video ♥️
