Yeh rather than directly putting past elements in like mijt have been done before , with all the side projects etc, felt like this anniversary was about securing the link between all the eras, acknowledging it all, but also looking to the future. I didn't like some of the editing of The Daleks in colour, but that plus the lovely Tales of the Tardis stuff, felt like we got the old stuff just not in the main plot of the main show, because really, tbf, how do you tribute every part of the last 60 years, you can't just stuff the show with loads of old cameos and no plot ....they did that to its best with The 5 Doctors of I was being harsh ( I love it , but set a expectation that all specials can be like that)
Omg yes! That’s all I could think of during the ball-catching grand finale and how it was like “The One With The Ball” and I was like “Shoulda Bi-generated into Monica”
When Hartnell’s Doctor regenerated into Troughton’s so did his clothes as happened with the 13th/14th Doctor regeneration so I’m not hung up on the clothes thing - although there was always that lovely incongruity when after a regeneration a new Doctor would be wearing their predecessor’s clothes - or the tatters of them, which was a signifier of the ‘death’ of the previous Doctor. It’s the same when the Doctor has a fleeting memory of who they have been or a previous adventure but they can’t remember it fully. There’s something bittersweet and magical about it. In this case, the 14th Doctor survives and doesn’t become the “raggedy man” the 10th did by becoming the 11th. Will he live a retired, quiet life? Will he use his TARDIS for jaunts only but walk away from trouble? Will his lifespan or his other alien powers be reduced? Will it all be left to our imagination?
The Giggle was a crazy special for sure, but I really liked it. It was both Weird & Wonderful. 🃏❤ I loved Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker. Teared up a little seeing the Doctor so happy at the table scene. It was heartwarming to get a happy ending
Rory Williams: "There are soldiers all over my house and I'm in my pants" Fifteenth Doctor: "I'm on a UNIT helipad and my jukebox was almost exposed!" Fourteenth Doctor: "Anyway, moving on!"
9/10. Very entertaining all round. Again some decent nightmare fuel in there and NPH chewing the scenery like a great Who baddie should (Soldeed awards anyone?). Not massively off with my notion of Ncutis appearance being more substantial than previous handovers. Not sold on the “bi-generation” business, narratively it would have made more sense and possibly more impact, had the Toymaker been more explicitly the cause of this deviation rather than adding yet another Time Lord myth we’ve never heard of before but I suppose this may yet be explored. Also is 14 still able to regenerate after this or does his incarnation become mortal as it were? My brain hurts thinking about that fallout.
One of the goals RTD had for the specials was that they would provide the setup for a UNIT spinoff, which they did. Not only that, but Donna has been offered and has accepted a job at UNIT, which presumably means that Catherine Tate would be a regular on the new show, and since Fourteen is now a member of Donna's family he might make an occasional appearance.
The TARDIS: "Planar bifurcation? I didn't know I could do that! Could do that, would do that? I want to bite someone . . . Or was that kiss? That's beautiful."
Brilliant episode. Loved Mel, ToyMaker, Shirley, Kate. Everyone shone. Loved the idea of bi generation. I think when 14th Doctor dies he either goes on to be The Creator or merge back into 15th. Ncuti blew me away. He’s going to be magnificent. Shame no references to Vortis or The Gunfighters. Know you both would have loved that being such fans of those stories. More importantly is Paul’s beard. Is this a plot device for the next season? Or part of a Brian Blessed tribute act. Keep up the great work.
The only way I can bring it back to making sense, is if they make him be just one of the short lasting self-projections that Time Lords can do, like Cho-Je and the Watcher
Just saying donna who was a millionaire donated all her money 167 million to charity but also lost her job is now working for unit now for 120 pounds an hour 5 days a week with 40 hour work week than she makes $960 a day $38,400 a week along with $153,600 a month and finally in a year $1,842,200 and if you convert it to the American dollar it's $2,304,000 and this just before taxes damn.
It was fine, though I didn’t like it as much as I wanted to. I think the Toymaker was a big part of the problem, really - Neil Patrick Harris was clearly having a great time, but his performance felt too much like that of some recent Masters for this Toymaker to come over as a distinctive character, especially once he started dancing (inventive as the deaths he proceeded to inflict on the UNIT soldiers were). I just didn’t get the same sense of an all powerful being as I did from Michael Gough’s more measured portrayal. Some of the scenes in the Toymaker’s domain were nicely creepy, but again the puppets and doll effects looked a bit fake and crude. I thought Gatwa was quite impressive in the final minutes, and hopefully the energy he displayed won’t turn into irritating hyperactivity as we go on. Tennant and Tate were both excellent, and the explanation for why Fourteen had Ten’s face was interesting and unexpected. Nice to see Mel again too, considerably more mature in the way she came over than when she was originally in the show. She didn’t get to do a great deal, and it was a bit surprising, as a former companion, that she didn’t go in the TARDIS at the end, but we will of course be seeing more of her soon - she dropped some minor spoilers for Thomas when talking about what she had been up to since leaving the Doctor, but with luck she won’t give too much away for him when she pops up again! It was nice to hear some names from the past get a mention, but my big disappointment from these specials is that Susan did not come back, as it now seems very unlikely we will ever see Carole Ann Ford in the show again.
That hand filching the Master tooth, obviously we can’t assume female anymore so wondering if it may have been that Jinks Monsoon character? Surely it would have been obvious there was someone hovering by the area where the Toymaker was though?
NGL my favorite Doctor Who eps are the campy fun ones. I like the Whoniverse lore and the emotional moments and all, but to me it's meant to be mostly silly. yes but only short lasting ones. To me that's the only solution left to retrieve it from silliness, that continuing-Tennant turns out to just be one of those avatar self-projections same as in those 2 cases.
On reflection, I feel the actor for The Toymaker wasn't quite right app he's famous and many love him, which is nice. But I don't know him so I'm not cutting him slack too much of the cod German accent, and not enough of the more menacing 'real' him. Why is it the modern era, or the writers/directors, think big villains all need to be OTT ? That's why I hope the Master tease was just a cheeky tease, I don't want more gurning massive performances that they seem to think The Master must do. I think actually we barely had begun to explore the Toymaker and his realm, it all feels too easily dealt with to me. I'm concerned for ever more now we will have Tennant fans never shutting up about 'we want David back, why can't we just have him ' , I hope this won't be an issue for the new Doctor because I feel he's going to be great , loved all the little gestures he's sort of butch and camp at the same time. Which is very Doctor. And I can't deny , tho it makes me conflicted, I liked seeing the new Doctor in his pants. I'm guessing such things are wasted on you too fellas huh haha trust me, it was lovely. ....buy I must not fancy The Doctor, it feels wrong !! But here's to a stylish as F incarnation! The Unit stuff felt 'oh there's your spin off team if you want' Now, Tennant has had his fair share. Can we please please please have some specials for the 8th Doctor ?! Just a handful like this sometime , please! Realy, fangirls preferences aside, he's The Doctor who realy ought to have some more. Please! As long as such things don't reduce the status of the main show. Oh...and Mel, Computer Programmer par excellence , finally got to use one.....and Singapore little, talk about using Bonnie's talents!
I think I got it. When he regenerates, the old cells are destroyed to make room for the new ones. This time however, the old cells refused to die, so they pushed the new ones out. Both are the Doctor on a cellular level, split in half
more men legs are needed for fairness, DW has always belonged to the TV bias that only women have legs. But not in this debasing boundary crossing way. It should be sensibly with shorts like Turlough
I don't like the split. I feel it cheapens Ncuti. I feel some are going to feel he isn't the real Doctor. We now have three versions of Tennant out there. The 10th, the Meta Crisis, & now the 14th. How many do we need?
It doesn't at all though. Ncuti is the Main and Tennant is the split. It's great that for once the Doctor that has experienced so much loss and trauma in some way finally gets to rest and be happy without being an end to the story. As we already have a few different versions out there technically 10th and 14th aren't different. as much as I see that you can view it in a bad way it's finally a nice 'end' for David.
@@OneHuntiBoi I feel that it does cheapen and take away from Ncuti. The only Doctor this has happened to. Everyone else has had the chance to be the one true Doctor and we didn't have to say there is another one running around. I would bet money some will be saying that they want the real Doctor back and want more adventures with Tennant and Tate. Willing to be some will not watch Ncuti too. Again, we have the 10th Doctor, the one living happy with Rose so he has a happy ending, and now a third one who gets to be happy. He is the special one. Just my view of it.
@@robert_bbiiiwell then those people can just Either A. go watch the old David Tenant episodes B. they can suck it up and watch with the new Doctor Ncuti or C. just stop watching altogether
@@mysticloverfairy1 which is what I am saying. We don't need to split him off. Already seeing many people say they are do happy he is still out there. Again only one they had to do this with.
The people who feel Ncuti isn’t the real doctor were always going to feel that way, this is just going to be their rationale for what they were already going to be saying
Very bi, these past three episodes. Doctor WHo has become a show about sexuality. Don't know why it had to be this way, but it is a message show now that Davies said the hell with it, I'm going full on👍 Hope the new guy gets some next level science fiction because there have been so many shows that have come with some incredible science fiction writing I'm beginning to think maybe this is a kid's show and I've out grown it. Which is odd because I watch classic who ALL the time. Strange Brew. But damn was it nice to see mel and Donna back.

The Unit stuff felt 'oh there's your spin off team if you want'
Now, Tennant has had his fair share.
Singapore little?! 'Sing a little' damn autocorrect drives me mad
Not crazy about the bi-generation but it could be a good explanation for The Curator... A future version of Tenant's retired Doctor.
I think I got it. When he regenerates, the old cells are destroyed to make room for the new ones. This time however, the old cells refused to die, so they pushed the new ones out. Both are the Doctor on a cellular level, split in half
Get some trousers on! Tennant got the trousers because he's the skinny man and doesn't like to show his legs.
more men legs are needed for fairness, DW has always belonged to the TV bias that only women have legs. But not in this debasing boundary crossing way. It should be sensibly with shorts like Turlough
All three stories were just okay. Not very special at all
I don't like the split.
Seriously where was there "sex" mentioned in this one? This was about trama and mental health.
@@m.stewart8094 Sexuality covers a lot more than the word 'sex' being mentioned. Trauma and mental health lol. Guess TimeLords have Time-Shrinks. 🧑⚕
