The great thing that I think happens now with David Tennant's Doctor is that he can now become The Curator from the 50th Anniversary where he can go back to his "favourite faces" while the other Doctor can carry on his adventures
Man I fuckin loved this special, genuinely spooky at times and a wonderful heart warming ending. Also what a introduction for the next doctor, cant wait for Christmas
My theory: The Not Doctor said that he and the Not Donna wanted to go to the universe to play "vicious games". The Toymaker said, "My legions are coming." What if the legion are the Not Things, pulled over with or as part of the Toymaker's realm?
From what I remember of the 3rd doctor, UNIT's shoot first, ask questions later mentality was a big part of those storylines, though it has been a couple of decades since I've watched them. So in answer to the question... pretty much forever.
"Five Rounds Rapid" was a catchphrase for Kate's father, who was the former head of UNIT and a Brigadier General. UNIT's always had a militant touch to it in regards to the question on the response methods.
I'm so sad that Bernard Cribbins was too ill to do his part in this final episode. I would have LOVED to see Wilf in the final family scene. He was there for the table read... but when it came time to film, he was just in no condition to do it. :(
I know some people thing Ncuti was overshadowed in his own premiere but I couldnt disagree more we usually get a line or so from a new doctor and half to wait to see where the pick up is and who they are but we already get SO much characterization for 15. He's happy go lucky, sassy (Honestly im getting such Eccleston vibes and im so for it all) and all too excited to get out and see the world again and I cant wait for what he has coming up next
I think he had a fantastic premiere, better than Capaldi's or Jodie's. I think having Tennant around at the same time actually helped, because it showed that Ncuti could stand toe to toe with someone considered great already, and he hasn't even fully settled into the role yet. I'm really looking forward to the next season.
in the 50th anniversary special, the current Doctor got a visit from a future incarnation, advising him on what to do next. In the 60th anniversary special, the current Doctor again got a visit from a future incarnation, advising him on what to do next. The Curator helped 11 find a reason to keep going, and 15 helped 14 find a reason to stop and focus on himself.
His trauma goes all the way back to the old series. He dealt with a lot in his 14 versions(well 15) and never took time to recover or deal with it all. So this means 15 is starting again, chilled refreshed. Having left all bad memories with 14. That's also why the next series is season 1.
and to thin this is the queer boy who started out as Doogie Howser, MD? Never in a billlion years could we have imagines him as one of the most terrifying Who villains ever, even if he ends up a one-of.
I have been waiting decades for the Toymaker to reappear. As a child The Celestial Toymaker was one of my favourite stories. As Doctor Who was often repeated during school holidays in Australia I think I saw The Celestial Toymaker about three times. Now three of the four episodes are missing :(
The Celestial Toymaker. Think of him like The Collector from Marvel, except his existence is based around games, he never cheats and he can't be killed, such is the life of an immortal being who can reshape reality.
For the record its just The Toymaker, the special he first appeared in is called The Celestial Toymaker but even the 1st Doctor just calls him the Toymaker
Just rewatched The Runaway Bride for Christmas, and at the end Donna said that the doctor needs someone to "stop" him. She did it 15 years later. DAMN YOU DOCTOR WHO!
Absolutely loved this and your reaction to it. Knew the fakeout would get you. They have the whole build up, the music, the final phrase, feeling the mavity of 9-14's whole history, it was done perfectly and if it had been a normal regeneration it would have been ok. Only to completely bamboozle us in the best way possible. And giving us a happy end, also great social commentary that even tho it wasn't subtle, didn't overstay its welcome in the plot. It was just the setting. Also just loved that music number. Puts Q's mariachis to shame :D
Me: No Nopey Nope. Creepy cannibalistic dolls, my worst nightmare *swiped aggressively at imaginary babbies on shoulders* Also Me: Colours of the World! Spice up your life! Every boy and every girl! Spice up your life! People of the World!... What an episode! So SO happy that David's Doctor didn't die and gets to just... live and really looking forward to seeing what the latest Doctor will get up to. As always loving your reaction. ❤️ Also I feel like I should add, as I'm from the UK, that Spice Girls was THE band for me when I was in my early teens lol.
I hadn't really thought about the fact that RTD was the reason that the Doctor was always regretting his past. It's amazing that everyone else chose to stick with it all this time. It will be refreshing.
When I discovered Doctor Who for the first time, rifling through a character guide in a bookstore, one of the first characters that caught my eye was the Celestial Toymaker, and while other enemies got reintroduced in the modern era, I wondered when would be his turn. Finally, he is here, and he's spectacular! The Spice Girls dance was my favourite scene, I was like " I know it's a dramatic moment where the villain demonstrates his power, but I can't stop clapping to the rythm". Also, I CAN'T BELIEVE I didn't make a Doctor Horrible connection, but in my defense, I never watched the full video, only some of the songs. ADDENDUM: I also liked how the Doctor faced TM and told him "how are you so small?". It's both an "up yours, mate" moment and the go-to approach of the Doc to most of his enemies, from the Sycorax to the Master: "you don't have to do this, we can find another way", then the scoff from the baddie, then our favorite Time Lord reminding everyone why so many planets, especially Earth, have not become space dust: because the Doctor was there.
I am soo glad that someone gets the idea of just embrasing the chaos/whimsy of the show. I have seen some very angry people online responding to this episode. Most don’t see the irony of what the Toy Maker was saying obviously lol…I absolutely loved the episode and I am up for whatever is coming down the road. Sad no one lets anything breath anymore and giving it time to see what the plan is…then maybe make up your mind? Anywho thanks for the fun reaction I love watching you two react to all my favorite shows and I love me the trailer palozza’s keep them coming ✌and Allons-y!!!
It’s crazy how 10/14 went from having the most tragic life to possibly the best possible and happiest one of all of the Doctor’s incarnations. Definitely reframes his first “I don’t wanna go” regeneration scene. Not mad at all. It’s also interesting how ten years ago in the 50th special, he was the young and naive one compared to 11, now he makes 11 look like a baby in comparison having been through three whole lifetimes before his return.
I absolutely loved this episode! I’m so happy about that ending and I can’t wait to watch Fifteen’s run! I didn’t want to say goodbye to David Tennant again. Luckily I don’t have to.
Also, I should mention you guys, I hav ebeen waiting for your review since it aired, and you did not dissapoint. And you guys caught the line of timelords doing therapy out of order :) Well done.
"But they are honourable men." ~Marc Antony in Julius Caesar, Shakespeare "Oh, well that's ALRIGHT, THEN!" ~The Toymaker in Doctor Who, Russell T. Davies
I really liked this episode when I first saw it, and now the more I rewatch the more I love it ❤️❤️ I also really love your interpretation of the Doctor healing themselves and the 15th Doctor having a sort of new lease on life because of it ✨
I've been waiting for your reaction all weekend, and you didn't disappoint! This blew me away - and also creeped the heck out of me too!! My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough! But if NPH comes back I'll be down. One fun fact about the original Toymaker - he was played by Michael Gough, a.k.a. Alfred from Batman!
I'm so glad I wasn't the only one thinking NSYNC when the puppet stage came into view 😂 I also cried during the show. It was heart warming and got me excited for the future, so proper Doctor Who
The Giggle was a crazy special for sure, but I really liked it. It was both Weird & Wonderful. 🃏❤ I loved Neil Patrick Harris as the Toymaker. Teared up a little seeing the Doctor so happy at the table scene. It was heartwarming to get a happy ending
I have a fan theory. Ncuti Gatwa is not the 15th Doctor, he is the First Doctor. The original Doctor that we all know and love has retired to live the quiet life. The bi-generation created a whole new person that is The Doctor, but still fresh and without the trauma of the past weighing down his soul. This makes him the “First” in a whole new line of Doctors yet to come.
The way I understand it is that eventually 14 (or "Doctor Noble" as I have decided to call him because as happy as I am to have tennant back I dont think he should get 2 numbers lol) will regenerate again and be pulled back into the bigeneration. It's not a duplication, it's just like... timey wimey therapy so that RTD doesn't have to rehash the doctor being super traumatised in his second era. Which is fair enough, giving the Doctor time war trauma was his big innovation back in 2005 and just doing it over again would be a bit old hat.
That and this way the reboot means international viewers tuning in for the first time won't require 60 years of backstory just to get an idea of what is going on at the start. Multi-Doctor stuff will probably have a pin put into it until it picks up more and those new viewers find time to see older stories and Doctor's.
@@chazo1367well by the time we get to the 75th anniversary this new new era will have likely had 3 doctors starting with Ncuti, so they'll be able to do a multi doctor special in the vein of Day Of The Doctor with recent faces
@@chazo1367 i said the 75th anniversary. If RTD is still running the show in 15 years something will have gone horribly wrong. Doctor Who is a relay race.
They did set up several villains… “the boss” who I thought was the master but probably not since the master is currently in a tooth, the master and whoever picked him up, the toy makers legions and “the one who waits”. The last might be the first. Bunch of villain hints.
I can't be the only one that got massive 'Flash Gordon' vibes from that moment when the tooth was picked up can I? The hand picking it up, the "ding" then people laughing. That's exactly what happened at the end of the movie. A gloved hand picked it up then a ding came from the bling ring that used to belong to Ming followed by the sound of someone, presumably Ming (although the guy who played Klytus said it was him as he was supposed to be the bad guy in a potential sequel, any day now...) laughing in a somewhat maniacal fashion.
Ive seen two theories about the two doctors. 1. 14 goes on separately and becomes the Curator from Day of The Doctor. 2. Bigeneration was actually his future self being plucked out of time. When 14 is done he will regenerate into 15 and be plucked back to this point, closing the loop and leaving only 1 Doctor again.
I loved this episode. It definitely had the everyone lives kind of feel. I really appreciate it them, mentioning Adric, as when I first started watching Doctor Who in reruns when I was a teenager it was the arc that introduced Adric and I remember the arc in which Adric died so I loved that callback.
Indeed - the fifth Doctor 4-part episode, 'Earthshock' from 1982. The Doctor can't save Adric because it is part of an integral fixed point in time (The Cretacous extinction event) which he is forbidden to interfere with. It is clearly an important event in the Doctor's life as it is referenced a fair bit, most recently in the 2022 'The Power of the Doctor' special episode.
i dont know if its what RTD was going for but i was thinking the leftover tennant doctor might end up being the curator baker doctor in day of the doctor where he said he might revisit the old favourite faces when he retires
Jay: "When did UNIT become a shoot first and ask questions later kind of organization?" Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart: "Jenkins! Chap with the wings there. 5 rounds, rapid!"
11:40 Adam refernencing "Move Along Home" is CRAZY, but he's right. I can still hear that stupid rhyme in my poor poor brain. And my respect for him only grows for referencing DS9 (Best trek fight me)
RTD said, you want to call us Doctor Woke? I'll give you Doctor Woke! I love how the gloves came off on this one. RTD knows authors who use subtext, and they are all COWARDS
@@fayesouthall6604 That's the thing about RTD, he's unapologetic about what he does. It's better to do that than hide behind PR. Some of the writing is clunky for sure (see: The Star Beast and its handling of trans rep), but the Toymaker's comments about cancel culture being a game actually work in the context of the episode. It's true IRL -and- true to the story.
@@HellfireComms And the Doctor talking about how humanity can be the worst and we don't need outside sources to destroy each other or hate eachother, the giggle is just amplifying it and removing reasoning. I know a lot of people hate the bi-generation, but I kinda loved it. So many theories and so many interesting discussions. In any sense, both are the Doctor; there’s no fake. I found this episode very fun and has been excited for the next era
i sat there thinking how Russel brought us [me] a well deserved therapy session. i think all the dramas that Thirteen dealt with [The Flux et al] just weighed on them. the doctor had to fix himself [or maybe the TARDIS did an intervention]. i love it. i think what could be cool is that if they need to do a team up special, 14 can pop by and aid 15. i have a ridiculous headcannon thought on how close the new master is to 15 but i'll wait to see how Jinkx is revealed. good show! good reaction!
Loved your reaction! Just the dose of positivity I needed. I adored this special! Adam, I know exactly what you mean that Doctor Who is back. I haven't been this excited, happy, and emotional about Doctor Who in a long time. These three specials were everything I've been missing...proper scary, creepy, zany, touching, and just plain FUN! Honestly, I'm struggling to understand why some are having so much trouble with the bi-generation idea. I think for a show to last 60 years and beyond it has to keep reinventing itself and being surprising. And I mean, it's sci-fi, a particularly wacky breed of sci-fi at that. Anything goes. I thought the bi-generation was perfect, a brilliant way to soft reboot the show. I friggin love that 14 gets a beautiful happy ending and finally gets to rest and have a family and 15 gets a fresh new beginning healed from all that trauma. Speaking of 15, I'm in love already. The last time I took to a Doctor so quickly was David Tennant's first appearance. I am so excited for the Christmas special and Ncuti's first season!
I just realized Jay sings the p’review’d song. Always crack up when he makes up silly songs or bursts into song, now aware that I’ve been singing along with him. Fun times.
This had me and my fiance battling some SERIOUS ONION NINJAS!!! We were so happy that Tennants Dr. got his happy ending, and what an ending to Dr. Donna's adventure!! The 10th (and 14th...lol) was my daughters favorite, and I dont know if you can see it, but in my thumbnail pic over there
I think that, at the end, when The Toy Maker said, "My legions are coming," that wasn't The Toy Maker. The voice changed. I think that was He Who Waits speaking through the Toy Maker.
I really love that episode and so glad they make a way to let Tennant doctor still alive and can may be return at some point if he want to. The new doctor is fun and energetic.
I love watching you guys but especially with this because ... you guys are awesome and so joyful. And you both cry as much as you giggle. Looking forward to switchmas.
Genius level title on this vid, chaps. Chef’s kiss, no notes 🤣 Speaking of chef’s kiss, Ncuti is AWESOME. PLEEEEEASE keep reacting to this show into his run!
I for one am looking forward to the direction they take the Doctor now. RTD really set up the character as traumatized by his past, and the Doctor just kept getting heavier with all the world n universe shaking events and lost friends (and lost loves). The stuff they set up with 13 was probably some of the biggest yet. An entire history stolen from her, half the universe killed just to get rid of her. And the life sucking cherry on top, she was too damaged and hurt to even try for more with Yaz, even though she clearly wanted to. I love that RTD has decided that the character needs to change, needs to heal from the emotional rollercoaster he set the character on.
22:55 I love that Donna says this because even when the Doctor went on a vacation to another planet to relax and unwind (Midnight) he ends up almost dying and getting more trauma. I'm a bit iffy on the whole bigeneration thing, but I like the thought of the Doctor finally getting a much needed break and having the time to process everything that has happened to him (with Donna and her family).
I’m glad to see the 10th Doctor finally get a happy ending. And if you think about it, he actually does need the time to stop and properly mourn for the people he lost in all of his lives. 😊
This is the best yule present they could have given us. I'm so happy. And looking forward to Ncuti's doctor. He looks like he's going to be so much fun

"Jenkins. Chap with the wings there. Five rounds rapid..." The Brig's best/funniest line.
"It's just....nice, man."
11:30 The Toymaker was originally played by Michael Gough, who you might better recognize as Alfred in the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman movies.
The things the Toymaker sent to terrify Donna, were in fact terrified by Donna.
Can we reflect on thr Toymaker telling the Doctor that with all his power...the toy maker came across a being that caused him to flee?
@@CircuitRebornI’m thinking it must’ve been a being of elemental boringness or seriousness or justice or something anathema to the toymaker.
"Five Rounds Rapid" was a catchphrase for Kate's father, who was the former head of UNIT and a Brigadier General. UNIT's always had a militant touch to it in regards to the question on the response methods.
this is legit my new favourite phrase: "WELL THAT'S ALRIGHT THEN!". loved NPR
and my 90s heart at Spice Up Your Life.
I love what RTD did. I'm so happy he's back in charge. I really couldn't watch Tennant regenrate again, so this is perfect.
Right?? i was holding my breath for too long!
I'm so sad that Bernard Cribbins was too ill to do his part in this final episode. I would have LOVED to see Wilf in the final family scene. He was there for the table read... but when it came time to film, he was just in no condition to do it. :(
I do love how the paid tribute to him, though. Out shooting at groundhogs! Gave me a "giggle" 😊
The Curator helped 11 find a reason to keep going, and 15 helped 14 find a reason to stop and focus on himself.
thankyou for keeping the scenes with social commentary in your yt reaction. most other reactors kept them out. what an episode
I also love the concept on this show is found family. the companions have each other and the doctor. it's just beautiful.
All the warm self healing, love hugs. This episode was great.
this marks the end of the trauma that started with the war doctor and the time war. This marks a new beginning, and im so excited for it.
His trauma goes all the way back to the old series. He dealt with a lot in his 14 versions(well 15) and never took time to recover or deal with it all. So this means 15 is starting again, chilled refreshed. Having left all bad memories with 14. That's also why the next series is season 1.
Poor man has basically been a walking panic attack for centuries.
The best of the special episodes. Neil Patrick Harris is incredible as The Toymaker
Just give him an Emmy and a BAFTA (the British version of it) as well. Wow!
and to thin this is the queer boy who started out as Doogie Howser, MD? Never in a billlion years could we have imagines him as one of the most terrifying Who villains ever, even if he ends up a one-of.
The Toymaker makes myth reality…. Bigeneration is a myth
Exactly. Based on 15's dialog before twinning the TARDIS, I'm convinced the bi-generation was because of the presence of the Toymaker.
@JeshuaSquirrel it was also due to the fact that 15 was still owed his prize for beating the toymaker since 10 used his to banish him
The prevailing theory for 10 is that he ends up becoming the Curator from the 50th special.
14 I guess you mean
When DAvid says 'wheelchair accessible" his scottish accent is pushing through :D
And apparently there is something out there that caused a Celestial to run...

What an episode! So SO happy that David's Doctor didn't die and gets to just... live and really looking forward to seeing what the latest Doctor will get up to.
As always loving your reaction. ❤️
Also I feel like I should add, as I'm from the UK, that Spice Girls was THE band for me when I was in my early teens lol.
The trailer for the Christmas episode is nuts and then there's a MUSIC VIDEO for the Christmas episode that's Nuts times 1000.
"Bi-generation? Nah...more like mitosis." - My friend on discord this morning
Thank god you guys posted! Needed some positivity today and you both send it out in mass!
NPH can be so menacing. He needs to play more villains
U guys really missed the Flash Gordon easter egg with the hand coming out and picking up the gold tooth? and the laughing? LOL so nostalgic.
I find it hilarious and ironic that Adam is wearing a Tony Stark shirt during the episode showing Stark Tower, I mean, UNIT headquarters. 😂
20:55 Captioning was wrong. A lot of people have commented on that. It's the 14th and 15th Doctors.
Gold-Tooth-Jay biting the inside of Adam’s cheek: “I’ll stop when you eat a Big Mac!”
Oh WeLl ThAtS aLrIgHt ThEn
Love the delivery on that. Gets less funny with each take.
First one funny, last one menacing
"But they are honourable men." ~Marc Antony in Julius Caesar, Shakespeare
"Oh, well that's ALRIGHT, THEN!" ~The Toymaker in Doctor Who, Russell T. Davies
She was killed by a…bird??
I really liked this episode when I first saw it, and now the more I rewatch the more I love it ❤️❤️ I also really love your interpretation of the Doctor healing themselves and the 15th Doctor having a sort of new lease on life because of it ✨
First time I liked it, rewatched it a few times and I love it!
It was heart warming and got me excited for the future, so proper Doctor Who
These 3 episodes were basically RTD's way of saying "my bad" about Doctor/Donna's last parting. I'm more than OK with it.
"The Doctor and the Toymaker played ball for a thousand years" no kidding, that would be a Moffat episode.
I gotta say, Ncuti brought an energy to his Doctor that reminded me of a live action Bugs Bunny. ( I mean this in the best possible way.)
Please don't stop reacting to Doctor Who. I love my favorite reactors reacting to a show I love so much.
"He didn't want to go and now he doesn't have to." DAMN YOU JAY 😢😢😢
@@SorchaSublime they likely won’t. At least RTD himself won’t write or direct that episode, he doesn’t like multi doctor stories sadly.
Jay bursting into tears when Donna says "to come home" is me...I am Jay, Jay is me.
RTD did the same thing before in series 3.
I acted just like you Jay….i dreaded this all week and I’m very happy how it worked out
Ive seen two theories about the two doctors.
1. 14 goes on separately and becomes the Curator from Day of The Doctor.
2. Bigeneration was actually his future self being plucked out of time. When 14 is done he will regenerate into 15 and be plucked back to this point, closing the loop and leaving only 1 Doctor again.
My theory: one of them becomes the valeyard
The Toymaker I think is Jay as a villain just all out madness and loving it
I loved this episode.
I was sure D14 was going to end with "I'll stay forever if you let me because... I don't want to go."
Jay: "When did UNIT become a shoot first and ask questions later kind of organization?" Brigadier Alistair Lethbridge-Stewart: "Jenkins! Chap with the wings there. 5 rounds, rapid!"
I think the most distressing thing about this episode is that the puppet actually existed and was used to test the first television
Watched the actual vid after watching the episode and its somehow creepier.
11:40 Adam refernencing "Move Along Home" is CRAZY, but he's right. I can still hear that stupid rhyme in my poor poor brain.
And my respect for him only grows for referencing DS9 (Best trek fight me)
"Alamarain, count to 4, alamarain, then 3 more..."
Love how you guys are so positive and fun even if you think something is bad you never get mean or cruel in your criticism. Just an absolute joy. ❤
RTD said, you want to call us Doctor Woke? I'll give you Doctor Woke!
I love how the gloves came off on this one. RTD knows authors who use subtext, and they are all COWARDS
Bloody right too.
Also: Anti-zeedex, need I say anymore? RTD basically took a hammer to the subtly and I love him for that.
Just noticed 16:14 the King card is the old Toymaker costume.
As finals weeks starts, i can get a nice cup of preview’d in before i get busy🎉
I just realized Jay sings the p’review’d song. Always crack up when he makes up silly songs or bursts into song, now aware that I’ve been singing along with him. Fun times.
This had me and my fiance battling some SERIOUS ONION NINJAS!!! We were so happy that Tennants Dr. got his happy ending, and what an ending to Dr. Donna's adventure!! The 10th (and 14th...lol) was my daughters favorite, and I dont know if you can see it, but in my thumbnail pic over there
"LOOOoooOOooKs like I HATE ITTTTT" Im Dyinggggggg hahahaha
I think that, at the end, when The Toy Maker said, "My legions are coming," that wasn't The Toy Maker. The voice changed. I think that was He Who Waits speaking through the Toy Maker.
The Silurians when UNIT "started" jumping to using Guns/Explosives first...
If you are a true Dr Who fan you will love this and feel RTDs love for the material. Period.
Chef’s kiss, no notes 🤣
Speaking of chef’s kiss, Ncuti is AWESOME. PLEEEEEASE keep reacting to this show into his run!
Such great performances, excellent heart, hilariously unsubtle social commentary, and Tennant's doctor gets to stay! Loved it!
Spoilers for the episode…
I think Ten becomes the Curator from the 50th anniversary.
11:47 “lemon meringue! Count to ten!”
I’m glad to see the 10th Doctor finally get a happy ending. And if you think about it, he actually does need the time to stop and properly mourn for the people he lost in all of his lives. 😊
David's doctor finally got his "reward" he was denied in The End of Time Pt2
I hope the Master is a woman again. And my wish is that someday they bring back Romana with a new actress. She is a Time Lord after all.
This is the best yule present they could have given us. I'm so happy. And looking forward to Ncuti's doctor. He looks like he's going to be so much fun
Yu-Gi-Oh references? I knew I like you guys for a reason.
