if the owner/guests just fancy a snack are they allowed to just come and make something their selves like they would at home or is it more like a restaurant where the gally/kitchen is out of bounds to non crew?
@@deanmajidy6197 Well, no. They can't just go into crew quarters without adequate permission or warning. Well, they could through power harassment, but would be opening themselves up to legal action. The kitchen though, is not crew quarters, so yes, the owner could go there whenever they want.
Can the non chef yacht workers use the kitchen is what I want to know. imagine they get hungry and want to pop a pizza in the oven, can they do it themselves or do they have to ask the crew chef?
@@xReboundRantz I guess that would depend on how many kitchens the yacht has. I'm sure it would be down to the chef to decide, although the owner could too. The owner does have a duty to properly provide for their crew though, but kitchen access is not a right.
Hi Jared, quick question - when you're working nights, how do you get to eat? You mentioned that you work 11:00am to 3pm (so you'd miss lunch at 12 noon?) and midnight to 8am, so does that mean you'd have to get up at 6pm for dinner? Sorry for digging up an old video, I've just literally found your channel.
With the combination of Chef Dean & Chef Leandri - there is no Giga Yacht, Mega Yacht, Super Yacht, Fishing Boat or Canoe anywhere on the face of the planet where the crew is not better fed than by these two. One browse through Chef Leandri's Insta this is food porn at its finest. How lucky to be Crew on Arience. They've set the bar to a completely different level and they truly care about what the Crew should eat and wants to eat. Can only imagine being a Guest of the Owner or a Charter Guest. If I were the Captain, I would be locking these two into multi-year contracts and a handsome pay rise.
I don't believe it's up to the Captain to determine the pay, I could be totally wrong, but I think it's up to the owner on what the crew budget will be, maybe on a sliding scale for what skills each person brings onboard with them...jmo
Hey Jared! Don't let this be a onetime appearance of Leandri in your videos. Figure out, make up reasons, use her as a back ground dancer whatever you and her can come up with to bring her into more of your videos.

Watching all your videos has inspired me so much, just got back from doing all my yacht courses to take this little journey as well. I come from a small little town and don't know much about the yachting lifestyle and planning to start my adventure in Monaco. any tips
Great video Jared, once again! Super informative for me as (covid 19 aside, hopefully) I aim to be applying for positions exactly like Chef Leandri's sometime early next year. So top work Jared, thanks.

So, if at any time i could spend a week with you guys, you were my prevered choice of Charter Yacht, and that is simply because of all of you crew people! Cheers from germany
Stefan, Do you not capitalize Germany in your sentences normally? In english (language, not country) It seems to be more common in the last few years. Seems strange.
Very intetesting video Jared. When I've watched Below Deck, I am very surprised there is only one chef that makes all charter guest and crew meals. With yachts of that size with crews that size, doesn't it make sense to have a sous chef that makes crew meals and assists the chef with charter guest meals? It strikes me that a second person could also do breakfasts and late night snacks for guests, taking some of the pressure off the chef as well as shortening his or her day.
Thank you for another great & informative video, cooking & cleaning for 48 meals a day plus helping the Head Chef, I'd say she doesn't have much spare time... Hope the young ladies foot heals quickly....
Two of the chefs on the Coast Guard cutter Eagle are vegan and the sole chef on one of buoy tenders I worked on was a vegetarian. Getting more and more common.
You ever notice if a vegetarian comes to your house they expect you to make them a special dish, but they never return the favor when you, as a carnivore, visit them.
Leandri and Dean really are amazing chefs. I'm not into vegan food, but i would have tried what she made in this video, looks good and probably taste great too! The question now is.. a few video's ago you showed where Dean sleeps, does it mean he has to share it now?! Also love the vibes around the boat. Goofing around while prepping food (dancing.. sortof haha) or kalley coming inside and she's like ''jummy'' but Kalley-style. This crew is amazing and i love that i can feel like i'm part of it because of the video's you post. It's an insight of how it goes in the industry, but it also feels like i'm there in person because the way you record it and the family feeling. Love the video!

@@jaredwatney ive no doubt the food is always great! Is there a video of how they get the provisions? Would be nice to see how the chefs decide what to get for the food they want to make, and how they get it on board!
Coming up on 30 years ago, I needed a "food handler's card" for a position. The class I took to get that card, was also word for word regarding gloves. People wearing gloves would not change their gloves as often as people not wearing gloves would wash their hands. Handling raw meats, esp poultry, was the circumstance where gloves were recommended. And then it was part of the protocol to prevent cross-contamination.
She has such an adorable personality! It was great to have this new knowledge of how things go "behind the scenes" and especially to hear how operations on M/Y _Arience_ differ from previous yachts (and from both perspectives, it sounds better!). Liandri seems so nice and that smile is infectious. ;) She's easy on the eyes, too.

Thanks Jared! You and the whole team have made me even more excited to go into this industry as soon as possible! Question for Dean and Leandri: how many restaurants/chefs did they work under or with before having the confidence to start being yacht chefs?
I think its good to get a good repertoire of different types of restaurants and experiences to help you deal with everything that is thrown at you as a yacht chef. So to answer your question I worked as a chef for around 8-10 years before I started yachting. but you could easily jump into it after 4-5 years.

On a food related question. Have you ever heard of a yacht that had a real smoker and was capable of making real BBQ? I would imagine there are some kinds of food that are just more difficult to prepare in a ships galley.
Some yachts are large enough to store whole grills and smokers that can be used on one of the deck exteriors. It's not uncommon for yacht owners to have Big Green Egg grills.

Yeah, I’m subscribed. Been a yacht crew for a long time and you’re definitely nailing it. Nice work!

Another excellent video! Thanks Jared ... and Kudos to Aleandri for her adaptability and passion for her chosen profession.
Those portholes (windows) have to make life so much better, tons of natural light in the galley, from what I’ve seen that’s pretty rare, lucky lucky!
if the owner/guests just fancy a snack are they allowed to just come and make something their selves like they would at home or is it more like a restaurant where the gally/kitchen is out of bounds to non crew?
