Iowa redefines the phrase "Your defense is your best offense."
And the real MVP was never shown in these clips. Tory Taylor, 8 punts, 51 yard average, 4 punts inside the 10, 5 punts inside the 20. Won the field position battle all day long.
Thanks for bringing that up. Not enough respect to the punters and nuances like field position, which makes for more plays needed by the offense, which leads to mistakes.

Has to do with coaching also. Matt Campbell allowing the showboating is who he is. Players are a reflection of the coaching staff at HS - PRO. Benching a healthy QB who owns every record for your Football program? Poor Coaching!!! The worst Power 5 football conference is the Big 12 without a question. Iowa State is a prime example of being ranked 6-7 preseason in this dogshit conference, along with Garbage Texas year after year. As the saying goes, come play the BIG Ten schedule or the SEC schedule. Oklahoma and Texas football programs better hit the weights now. Nebraska was a powerhouse football program in the Big 12, now lucky to go .500 in the BIG

Just wish Iowa would keep their foot on the gas when they have the lead. Always been a plague for the Hawks…. get up by a few points, and just try to maintain. Always play to survive, not play to win. Got up a little bit, and scoreless in the 4th. I love the Hawks, but that strategy has hurt them more than helped!

Quarters 1-3 were great. 4th quarter had a bizarre feel especially when they benched Purdy. Felt like Iowa State gave up and they were only down 17. Also, great W for Iowa but their offense looked poor, defense looked great.

They have a chance to do something special still. Really special. The top 25 this year is weak, and top teams are dropping like flies. Ending the season with 1 loss, and that only loss was against a top 10 team? ISU still has a shot at something super special, potentially playoff if things go perfectly

Hmmm 🤔 the Pittsburg Steelers and Iowa Hawkeyes are similar in colors and now Iowa state is pretty much matching with the Penn State
The Hawks got lucky with all of the Cyclone turnovers, (some credit to the D, not just luck). Scored 20 off of them, won by 10. Purdy didn’t start out looking sharp - floated a couple early - and his receivers were dropping catchable tosses. He was only responsible for one INT, the long one, and he says the ball slipped a little in his hand. Petras did throw a couple of beautiful strikes. ISU had more passing and rushing yards, and a higher completion percentage. The o-line was giving the qbs time. Tory Taylor’s punts were like an unfair advantage.
Maybe the temperature and the black jerseys had a role in making the Cyclones let up with lots of time left. They had to wear color, (not white), so the red wouldn’t have been much cooler. I think the black was just to troll Iowa a bit. Taking Purdy out to give Deckers a try was okay, but Campbell also pulled a fired up Breece Hall, and other important starters. Championship teams keep going when down by 17 with 12 minutes left.
ISU’s game plan seemed designed to play Iowa’s style of football - not smart. I think they should’ve gone tempo, not giving Iowa’s great defense time to get settled for each play. Some BIG team may show it works.
I hope both teams finish with great seasons!

As someone who wore #8 (proudly) for my West Liberty Comets (Iowa) as a cornerback myself as a Jr/Sr in high school, I love seeing Matt Hankins pick off Hutchinson, or any other rival wearing my number without the express written consent of the WLHS community school district which is prohibited! 😂

This is a special Iowa team for those of us old enough to know better. Amazing that 23 years in Kirk Ferentz’ tenure and this is the best team top to bottom on paper that he’s ever had
I still think the 2 orange bowl teams were best top to bottom. The offense needs to step it up or else we’ll have no shot when we play penn state or another good team
KF has won 2 BIG championships. So unless they repeat I’m skeptical to say “the best”. Probably the best defense
Question for any hawkeye fan. I'm driving to Chicago from Buffalo for the Chicago marathon Columbus Day weekend. Wanted to check out a college game around the area while in town. Illinois vs Wisconsin didn't really excited me but I saw Iowa vs Penn State is that weekend and it's only a 3 hour drive. Is it worth going to a Hawkeye game? What are the fans like, stadium, area etc? It always looks like a great time on tv. Thanks!
Some of it depends on the weather but fall is a beautiful time in Iowa and the fans and people are some of the nicest you will ever meet anywhere on earth.
Highly recommend it, especially if it ends up being a night game. A ranked team coming to Kinnick at night is the best. Also, the game is sold out so the tickets will be costly on Stubhub etc.

I’ll say it since no one else has. The hawks are good, but their defense is about 10 times better than the offense. They (the defense) can’t win every game and it’s gonna catch up to them

In the State of Iowa, it comes down to two things! Did you go to Iowa, if yes, your a Hawkeye, or cyclone! If you didn’t go to either school, it’s what your father, and relatives are a part of! Not that complicated!
Some of us root for both. If you’re an Iowa State grad, you support the Cyclones. If you dropped out of community college, you support the Hawkeyes. If you went to Iowa, you’re too woke to support college football. (Generalizations)

Hawk's got lucky with State's turnovers today...a nod to Iowa D but same old issue of 5+ secs for the QB to pass or run - doesn't work - if State ran their 2m drill every possession it would have exploited Iowa leaving their blitz balls in the locker room
Offense + Petras is a great passer
But same old issues with O - QB not a double threat, can't extend plays - when approaching or in the RZ Iowa is 3PT U - Iowa needs a new scheme and OC (been this way for too long)

Iowa D is good (as usual) but need to blitz more - this is evident when we're out-coached and the opposing QB is a legit dual-threat. You can be "bad ass" and still self-evaluate and improve - don't be so "defensive" - sorry couldn't resist - Go Hawks

State sucks and there was no pressing need to. I’m not worried at all. Once they offense steps up we will become crazy dangerous with a top D.
@@nickmillhollin3996 I held-off on this reply and waited for the inevitable - Purdue QB received no pressure from Iowa's D and waited until his receiver(s) got open (I just don't know why this is tolerated) - they had 300+ passing yards and destroyed Iowa's D - there are plenty of top 20 teams that can also do this to Iowa. With Iowa's cupcake schedule which helps their team and defensive ratings... you get a false sense of Iowa's defensive being great when it is above average or good. We're limited with our D scheme and more limited with our O scheme - most everyone is still settled with Ferentz and his 2.7 million salary - but we're out-coached with our losses as other coaches exploit our limited and predictable schemes.... we need new blood - I don't think Captain Kirk will fire his OC...so you'll need to gid rid of CK - and with all the people drinking buckets of BAGKA (Black And Gold Kool Aide) - good luck with that...
