Just the video that I needed to see. Parents replaced there cedar 8 years ago for 26k, and there's like 50 shingles popping up. Thank you

Tap the single up using a piece of wood and a hammer to not damage or blemish the shingle with the head of the hammer.

The only thing I would recommend is placing the shingle as far up as possible by hand, inserting two nails, tapping them in slightly and as close to the top of the shingle as possible and then use a small block of wood flush with the end of the shingle when you are tapping it into place so you aren't damaging the end of the shingle with the hammer. This will bend the nails a bit and then proceed to finish hammering them in with a flat bar. Cheers!

Angle those nails then when you tap the shake up the nails will straighten out.

I thought of the same thing and saw your note, but I don't think it matters, either way, you'll have a slightly bent nail if not a small start of a split. Has anyone used a dub of glue to glue the inserted shake to the above or below with no nails with success?

How do you know if the shingle is under the paper or just tearing it up as you pound the shake in?

How long should the roofing nails be for the ridge cap? Thanks

2 and 1/4 inch. Unless heavy ridge caps then 2 and 3/4

Shakes are meant to be installed on furring. They never dry out evenly installed directly on sheathing. Sadly, they are a thing of the past. You're asking for trouble using them like that.

You do realize that by setting the nails and then tapping it up you are just pulling the nails out and the shingle is no longer fastened properly?

This video should be filed under "comedy" because this video is a joke. Just read all of the comments with corrections. I would suggest folks look to another video for the correct way to do this, and I pity the poor soul who hires this company to do any work. SMH.
