I was so disappointed that you did not even show one piece of material out of all those boxes, or anything else. All I saw was you talking. I was wanting to see what was in the boxes. So, just a waste of time for me.
My absolute faves are Open Gate Quilts and Sew Sampler. They have the best bang for your buck in my opinion. I didn't like Mrs Quilty. I've seen their fabric on Temu 😬. Sew What was too expensive. Cotton Cuts was fabric only with no projects. Ginger Quilter is all holiday themed, which isn't my thing. Precuts wasn't for me either. I'm a subscription box connoisseur at this point 😂😂.

I had great difficulty folliwing which box you were talking about as well as you mentioned Corton Cuts and then wrnt on to something else. I just found your channel a few minutes ago. I've not heard good things about Mrs. Quilty from several channels I've watched, but then again, I've seen other channels sing their praises. That made me wonder if they're just hype because they're getting paid to promote it. I generally am skeptical about gushy reviews, so thank you for showing pros/cons of each subscription company.
***OK, this ended up being rather long. So the summary is: I've only tried the Sew Sampler box from Fat Quarter Shop. I really love it, but had to unsubscribe for financial reasons. When I can afford it again, I will definitely subscribe again!.*** I'm on a fixed income, so I can't afford to try multiple boxes at the same time. I was a Sew Sampler subscriber for years, and I loved it! It was like getting a Christmas present every month. I started around 2017 as a beginning quilter. After watching unboxing videos for several months, I made a list of possible choices, and narrowed it down to 1 subscription. However, after I finally made the decision, that box was discontinued! YIKES! (Sorry I don't remember the name of it now.) Sew Sampler was my second choice, so I went with that one. I never regretted it. As a beginner, I needed fabric, notions, patterns and tutoring. Sew Sampler checked all of those boxes. So if it is so great, why did I unsubscribe? I started doing BOM's, also with Fat Quarter Shop, along with other fabric stores, and I simply couldn't afford to do all of that and Sew Sampler too. Plus the cost of living and inflation is maxing out my little Social Security check earlier and earlier each month. Since a BOM is a contract that you really can't get out of, I had to let something go. Having said that, however, as soon as I get the BOM's paid for, I will definitely re-subscribe to the Sew Sampler box! (BOM: Block of the Month)
I have subscribed to the Sew Yeah Quilting subscription box for the last few years & like it. They are a brick & mortar out of Las Vegas and have a very active TH-cam presence as well. It’s a little different every year - this year is a pre-cut every month. It’s $55/month and usually has aurifil thread & some kind of notion as well. It always has a quilt pattern included & a QR code for a TH-cam tutorial. Check it out!
Hi! First time viewer here. I have subscribed to the Fat Quarter Shop's Sew Sampler for a couple years now. I am always looking for other subscription boxes that I might enjoy. So far, I've stuck with FQS and their Sew Sampler. A couple things I've learned may help you or others while you evaluate these kits. 1) At Fat Quarter Shop they seem to give you ample fabric to complete the project. Some places give you just enough to finish - but what if you make a mistake? FQS is generous in the amount of fabric you have to work with. Often you have leftovers to put into your stash. 2) They have a terrific blog where you can find all their videos - and there are a lot of them! They have a good selection of beginner videos that can be very helpful. I"m going through those myself to learn or relearn what I've forgotten. 3) Also, each month they have an alternative pattern that you can find on the blog. Just use the link that comes with the kit to find. So that is 2 patterns that work with the fabric for that month. Plus you get the extra pattern in each kit. That pattern is part of a year long Block of the Month quilt. At the end of the year you'll have the patterns to make a sampler quilt. Anyway, I do find FQS to be a quality company and they work hard to produce a good product. They are so easy to get hold of if you have questions. They have a facebook group for the sew sampler club too where people post pictures of their finished quilts and share ideas about how they used their fabric. You can also ask questions in there. If anyone will know how to clean a gluey iron, that group will! Missouri Star also has similar perks that go with their products. Both companies are quality businesses and you can feel assured that you are in good hands. Now, I'm going to have a look at your No. 1 choice. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for stopping by! I do love the Sew Sampler Box as well. I usually purchase a lot of sale items from MSQC. I will definitely look at the links and see what other patterns FQS has.
I've seen a lot of Mrs. Quilty fabrics mixed in with different sellers fabrics on the cheaper side on Amazon. Like fabrics from the 2 boxes I've gotten from Mrs. Quilty.
OMG! I can't remember what channel I use to watch, maybe the Midnight Quilter, were she would drink wine as she was sewing - hysterical, but she'd get pretty tired. LOL! Charcootie board? That is funny, I'm stealing it.
Yes, it’s Angela Walters, she used to do the midnight quilting with wine, she’s insanely talented, she can quilt beautiful, intricate patterns on her domestic machine, free motioning like a boss big quilts, I used to think how on earth she can create such difficult quilting patterns whilst drinking wine? She’s on another level!
Shipping costs make usage purchases too costly. Between shipping and the exchange rate from cdn dollar to USA dollar I feel I have to purchase and ship within canada
I love the quilted cow and sewers club box. I also get the Open Gate box which is good for more experienced sewists. I like all of them as I like project driven boxes.
@@crafterslog it’s my favorite of all of them. I find the projects interesting and the fabric is always beautiful. I pay an additional amount to include the project backing.
Open Gate also does a specialty box like at Halloween - not part of the subscription and it is quite a bit more expensive but so worth it! Good grief that woman can do an awesome Halloween box!
Thank you for doing this. I get FQS because is the best. In August I tried PreCuts Quilt Box for about $60 and I didn’t like it at all. This month I’m going to cancel. I’ll stick with Fat Quarter Shop, which I love and the quality of all products and fabrics is great. Thanks again for comparing those boxes😊
I LOVE The Quilted Cow. I get Moo Mail, too. I stopped Mrs. Quilty and Sew What after one box each. I haven’t gotten the Fat Quarter Shop box but I’ve been eyeing it. I get the thread and classic box from Cotton Cuts. I always look for quality fabrics and bang for my buck. I like the surprise which can be risky. There is iron cleaner out there. You can use a pressing cloth to help avoid getting stuff on your iron.
Hi Carolyn Use appliqué sheets when working with adhesives. One ont the bottom and on the top. They’re are silicone sheets to withstand heat and also protect your iron/board
I have hear from someone else that Mrs. Quilty instructions do not match. One instance was to cut a half inch strip. So if you sew a quarter inch seam around it, there is no fabric left. Oh my.
Hello, great video. As to Mrs. Quilty, happened to get aome fabric through Temu, to check if it was worth it. Happened to be the exact fabrics in Mrs. Quilty box. May be just coincidence...
Absolutely without a doubt to get things off of your iron. Use a Mr. clean scrub pad. It works on all iron services and takes out the nastiest of everything without damaging your iron soleplate. Be sure to rinse good when you’re finished and always always use your shot or burst of steam in your iron before you actually at try to iron your fabrics to clean it each time. Also, you should dump your water out of your iron after each use. I usually use a dry iron and a spray Mr rather than take a chance on my iron leaking onto my beautiful fabrics.
What a fun dialogue! Enjoyed watching your video. I always prefer to see what comes in the boxes…maybe a box opening? I will come back to watch your next video. Thanks for taking a different angle on your videos! Fun to watch!
Thank you for sharing your honest opinion about the boxes. As for the projects, I know it’s a personal choice but the patterns have to be written clearly for me. I am a new subscriber, thank you again.
I appreciate you doing a video to compare boxes but I will admit I struggle to remember what box you were talking about as you went along. It might have helped if you had held up each box as you went along, green screened a picture of the box under discussion, broke the video up into chapters for each box. I did like the wrap up at the end though, thank you.
I feel like when you’re new at a craft you kind of just have to choose the subscription or class options that will teach you the skills to get better and better. I always say, “every project is a learning experience.” I’d be all for a box that’s for younger sewists. I don’t like the old lady-ish fabrics and quilt designs. I personally want to start with easy jelly roll quilts. Ones where you can just relax and turn your brain off. I haven’t looked into subscriptions for sewing, but I do love the idea of the Mrs Quilty box because I want to learn with every project and I want to get better and better. And I also have weird black residue on the bottom of my iron. Did you ever figure out what worked best? I’d love to see a video on it!
🎉 I love the Quilted Cow. All of the boxes I like except for Mrs. Quilty. My opinion. There are cleaners to help iron problems. I have no solids. I love Fat Quarter Shop.
I haven't tried Quilted Cow but I've really enjoyed the unboxings and the project selections have been great. They do have the best looking boxes. I keep hoping to win one from Holly so I can try before buy ;-)
In my opinion the best three boxes are Bella Rose, Open Gates and Pastry Shop. Both Bella Rose and Open Gates provide complete products for the main projects and they use their own patterns. They both have a secondary and sometimes third project and provide everything but the fabric since they are considered "stash buster" projects. They also provide an additional block of the month or extra pattern and they both have tutorials with Bella Rose doing a Zoom type gathering/retreat once every other month. Open Gates is monthly and Bella Rose is bi-monthly. The Pastry Shop is also a great box that comes out every 6 weeks. You get most everything for the project, sometimes you might need background. All the fabrics are top of the line for all three boxes. All three boxes have notions and include some type of edible treat. Bella Rose started their boxes in January of this year, so they are really new. Open Gates has been going for several years and The Pastry Shop is a couple of years old. They each offer something different and I would compare them to each other in price and value - def getting your value with all three boxes. The other box that I'd like to add for your consideration is called Sweetwater. I waited a year and half to get off the wait list! They come out every three months and it is 100% their fabric line, so if you like Sweetwater fabric you'll love their quarterly subscription box. You need to read carefully because they do have different boxes like you can get fabric labels with your name or get them without for your quilt backs. Anyway, you should take a look at Sweetwater Company. If you like Alison Glass fabrics she started a subscription box, limited time, that will come out quarterly but it is expensive - I'd compare it to Julie's at Intrepid Thread and she does the Tilda and Liberty fabrics. Alison Glass is brand new but you'd really want to read thoroughly the sign-up instructions and check to see if you like her fabrics. I LOVE her fabrics, very soft and vibrant and they wash up beautifully.
@@crafterslog I've gotten better - when I first started getting subscription boxes I didn't read everything and got caught up in a couple that were 3 month and 6 months. Man, that fine print, it will gitcha!
I agree with Gina, I don't get open gates but I get the Bella Rose and Pastry Shop. Would love to get Sweetwater! But there is always a wait list, I just started primitive gatherings. Excited to see how that one is. Love everything farmhouse, that one may not be for you Carrie, I know it's not your jam. Pastry Quilt Shop is my favorite box out of all the ones I have ever tried.
I think I mentioned this before. I subscribed to the knitting box by the same company; directions were horrible (and I’m a decent knitter). The yarn in the first box wasn’t bad. The yarn in the second box was rough. The second box required a length of cable needle and they sent 2 short needles to add up to that length. I think the other boxes are you are evaluating are affiliated with brick and mortar or online stores…not sure about Mrs. Quilty.
@@crafterslog I wondered if Mrs. Quilty might actually be Temu products? Temu prices are much better though, I think several places get some of the notions from Temu since it is more affordable. If it doesn't have a company name on it like Clover, etc. you have to wonder.
There is a iron cleaner at MSQ you may want to try. I would try rubbing alcohol to see if that's works??? Yesss! I always quilt with coffee, tea or wine, depending on the time of day 😊 Love the quilted cow unboxings, have not tried it yet tho. I may try it next year. I think sew sampler is great but I like a little more fabric in a box. My favorite is Pastry Quilt Shop.
I have quite a large stash since I have been quilting for years. I have been making some scrap quilts, to try and use up some of my fabric. I am not sure they would be a good idea for me. They do sound fun, oh.
What I liked about the Sew What box was the fact they put in all usable items and no fillers like jewelry and candy. I only got it for 3 months because I liked one of the 3 projects in those months. So, it wasn't a good fit for me.
I have ordered Mrs Quilty two separate times now I am still very disappointed with this subscription. Have enjoyed Fat quarters box since they started. I use it to build my stash up. Sew What Box I am on the fence with. More than likely will stop the subscription! Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
The last box is out of my range! I love Sew Sampler which I have gotten for years! It was good to find out about the others! Try the dryer sheets! I have cleaning cloth from Sew Sampler which
Also, use a pressing sheet, even if it’s a piece of parchment paper when you go over some of that green type stuff. I have a Teflon sheet I use for appliqué iron on interfacing type stuff, and I just use regular parchment paper from the kitchen for setting glue.
I'm curious, have you ever taken a quilt class? It might help you understand how to read patterns if you haven't. I appreciate it when kits show you how to cut the fabric as they only give so much. You are a bit hard to follow, but I'm sure you will find your groove. Honestly, I would probably be all over the place as well. 😂 A little advice, don't use a rotary cutter if you've been drinking. And always, always close your rotary cutter before putting it down. I wanted to add that I appreciate your honesty. It would be interesting to see you revaluate some of these earlier boxes after you've become more experienced. A then vs. now type of thing.
I have never taken a quilt class that covered basics. It was more of let's make this and ask questions if you have any. I was hoping for more of machine basics and quilting terminology/pattern interruptions. I highly doubt I will drink alcohol while cutting/sewing. I am too paranoid.
Very clever recipe card! Love the comparison. You know Carrie, you might want to give Cotton Cuts a try since you get pre-cut fabrics and really good directions. Once you get the feel of putting the pieces together and doing a 1/4" stitch then maybe go on to doing projects that you cut yourself?
Carrie, could you screen shot your recipes and add for us to see? I love them! With the Sew Sampler there is normally a tutorial for the patterns and the Block of the Month changes every year.
I am I beginner quilter and I had a subscription to Mrs. Quilty. I cancelled it after the first box because I never received my second box which was due in September, and I was charged for it. I'm trying to get a refund for that box but of course I can't get in touch with anyone. Very disappointed with them. Fat Quarter Shop I had and cancelled it for Mrs. Quilty! Big mistake! What i didn't like about them is that the projects are too advanced for me. They do a lot of that paper piecing and I'm not into that since I'm so new and my skills are very limited. I might go back but I don't know. I never heard of the other two but I might consider The Quilted Cow if I can do every other month because I don't think I can afford so much money each month! Thank you for this review. Very informative and useful!❤
Mrs. Quilty I didn’t care for they mess up my first box and customer service is awful. So I cancelled after 3 months due incorrect items or missing things (never received any of the free gift that supposed to come with the box. By the shipping is not included. TQC subscription everything is great and it’s always a surprise however, the cost is too high and a lot of the notions is starting to be repeated. FQS I had about 2 years of the subscription before trying the other two companies their stuff is great too but again notions were starting to be repetitive. So at this time I’m not subscribing to anything of the 3 companies. Currently I’m giving Sweetwater a try.
That seems reasonable. I can handle a block a month vs. trying to get all of the projects in the subscription boxes. (Especially, since I get 3 or 4 a month.
Thank you for watching. There are a few videos that do show completed projects. I hope you stick around as I will be doing videos as I make a few of these projects.
I’m not sure that it’s any of your business how much disposable income anybody has other than yourself. Maybe stay in your lane next time instead of being rude and nosy.
From a long-time sewer but relatively new at quilting I appreciate your reviews. Nothing is more disappointing than paying, waiting, and then the item(s) are a letdown. Kind of like "a crummy commercial" ( A Christmas Story) when Ralphy found out the facts of commercialism. 🥸
Would have loved to have seen what was in each box!!
Thank you for stopping by. If you check out my video section I do have videos of each unboxing.
Thank you for your honest opinion but I would rather actually see the products you are talking about. The fabric the items etc.
I do show them off in the unboxing videos.

For a clean iron, you can use a damp magic eraser on your cold iron. It will look brand new.

Just subscribed after watching Crystal Heart mention you on her u tube channel.
Oh, thank you so much!
I will make a video this week on the iron cleaning. I’ll be trying out different methods.
🎉 I love the Quilted Cow. All of the boxes I like except for Mrs. Quilty. My opinion. There are cleaners to help iron problems. I have no solids. I love Fat Quarter Shop.
Same!! Thanks for watching!
I would want projects, notions, fabric. I like feeling like I ordered a present and then, I hope to use all the things I paid for.
That's exactly what I hope for too!
I haven't tried Quilted Cow but I've really enjoyed the unboxings and the project selections have been great. They do have the best looking boxes. I keep hoping to win one from Holly so I can try before buy ;-)
I will have an extra August box up for a giveaway as well.
Which you would have shown some of the fabric /items included
Thanks for stopping by. I showed the fabrics in the unboxing videos
I love that you are a fabric feeler, too.
I was one of those kids that had to touch everything when shopping!! LOL
I tried ironing over a dryer sheet a few times and rubbing toothpaste on my iron to get glue off. The dryer sheet worked after elbow grease!!
Elbow grease!!! 😃
I love that you remind to read!!! It takes a village!!
Quilty.
I don’t think Mrs. Quilty is a brick n mortar either.
@@crafterslog I wondered if Mrs. Quilty might actually be Temu products? Temu prices are much better though, I think several places get some of the notions from Temu since it is more affordable. If it doesn't have a company name on it like Clover, etc. you have to wonder.
@@GinaGrowe not to be a downer, but many temu products come from factories that use slave labor.
Pastry Quilt Shop is on my list to try.
I have quite a large stash since I have been quilting for years. I have been making some scrap quilts, to try and use up some of my fabric. I am not sure they would be a good idea for me. They do sound fun, oh.
Thanks for watching!!
They have iron cleaner. Look at any quilt store and order it.
Thank you!!
I love how MSQ bundles. You pay shipping on first order, then can add to it all week without paying more shipping.
I ordered stuff from MSQC. I forgot what I ordered so I am looking forward to unboxing it.
Thank you for watching! There are so many boxes to try. 😜
The last box is out of my range! I love Sew Sampler which I have gotten for years! It was good to find out about the others! Try the dryer sheets! I have cleaning cloth from Sew Sampler which
Definitely, going to try the dryer sheet. Thanks!
Also, use a pressing sheet, even if it’s a piece of parchment paper when you go over some of that green type stuff. I have a Teflon sheet I use for appliqué iron on interfacing type stuff, and I just use regular parchment paper from the kitchen for setting glue.
Great tips! Thank you.
I’ve used magic eraser to scrub my iron plate before with success.
I clean my Iron with Oven cleaner ;)
Interesting. I have never heard of using oven cleaner on an iron.
I did order from cotton cuts! I am looking forward to my first box.
@@crafterslog Are you doing the mystery quilt or a banner/table runner?
Try open gate you will love it
I bought it! Just patiently waiting on it to arrive!!
Carrie, could you screen shot your recipes and add for us to see? I love them! With the Sew Sampler there is normally a tutorial for the patterns and the Block of the Month changes every year.
I will post to my Facebook page.
@@crafterslog Sweet! I'll join your FB page.
Thank you for watching. I am glad you found it helpful.
Ooo. How do you like Sweetwater?
Carrie...thanks❤
Absolutely! You are welcome.
Use the fabric from the Ms Quilty boxes to practice different quilt blocks
That’s a great idea. I was also going to make up some pet beds using it.
I tried Mrs quilty, the patterns are so hard to read! I didn't care for it. But the others are good.
There are s
Many many sizes of Bowl cozies. I have 6 different sizes myself.
I bought a template off Amazon and it can make 6 or 8 different sizes.
I do like t g e Block A Month because you can get a quilt done in a year or so.
That seems reasonable. I can handle a block a month vs. trying to get all of the projects in the subscription boxes. (Especially, since I get 3 or 4 a month.
Warm your iron and rub the base plate with a used dryer sheet. Not sure what you’re using Elmer’s glue for that you would get it all over.
I am going to try it out!
There is a TH-camr saying that the fabric from the SewWhatBox is from JoAnn
Interesting. I will be looking into that. Thanks for stopping by.
From what I can tell based on unboxings that I've watched & fabrics I've seen and/or purchased at JoAnn, I'd say that TH-camr is correct.
I have been in to see them heifers at Quilted Cow! 🐄 Super fine ladies.
I still need to make a trip to the Springfield store. I am really looking forwards to NW Arkansas to open!
hope your knee is feeling this evening
I iced it as soon as we stopped the live! Thank you!
Too scattered in your presentation. Shorter and to the point. I don't care about your snacks or your daughter dancing.
Mrs. Quilty is great. i love it.
Not that helpful. Didn’t have any completed projects to show from the boxes.
Thank you for watching. There are a few videos that do show completed projects. I hope you stick around as I will be doing videos as I make a few of these projects.
$40.00 to $60,00. You are spendibg way too much money.. Do you have that much disposable income? Rethink your spending please.
I agree! It can be so disappointing. I love your Ralphy comparison!!
