I have been checking out other channels on these Mrs Quilty boxes. There have been several bad reviews on this subscription. #1 was the subscription box they had received from the previous year. The instructions didn't match up. It was for a house. Had to cut 4 1" strips, and templates in the booklet were all wrong. # 2 fabrics are cheap. I understand you all get those for free to promote them. But for people that are paying close to $40 a month. I would rather go to Joann's and pick my own fabrics and templates and be happy.
I have now received 3 boxes. Fabric is thin, from China. Frequent errors in the patterns in the magazine. No corrections noted unless you scroll through FB conversations. Advertising is AI generated, deceptive & dishonest in some cases. I can only say you must have got a new box, because my free gifts were a pincushion, 3 quilting “pins”, 4 thread minders. I am disappointed that so many are subscribing, assuming they will learn to quilt. I am concerned on how many of them will be frustrated & discouraged as they try to learn.
Thanks so much for your honest opinion. I am a 40+ year experienced quilter so these are not my jam. I usually only buy premium quality fabric because if I am going to spend my time, I want it to be quality fabric. I agree these are likely perfect for a new quilter. Great review. Thanks so much!
When got the second box and that’s when I realized the projects were way too easy, almost juvenile to me. The fabric wasn’t to my expectation, it was fine for crafting projects. But, at least I now understand why I felt that way. I’ve been sewing since I was 7, started quilting when my first granddaughter was born. I’m now 79, and that granddaughter is 32. So, that’s how long I’ve been at it. Thank you for your explanation of what Mrs Quilty is doing with this box subscription. It would have been nice if they had done that to let advanced quilters understand their process.
Kristen, The way to find out if your fabric is cotton or Polycotton is the put the edge of the fabric under a flame for a few seconds, then you check and see if the burnt edge of fabric is soft (cotton) or hard (Polycotton) I do this every time I am given fabric from friends. It is a great way to know what you have. You can tell your followers about this, I think the newer quilters should know this especially if some of the fabric they get is really thin. I do know what you are talking about when you say about the different count of threads. I found some very thin and like plastic to the feel and it is not easy to understand that everything might be COTTON which I like to use as I have found the poly never lasted for very long with continuing being washed every week or so. I cannot afford to buy subscription boxes on my meager pension but _I like to see what is in them.
Thank you! I did make it! 🥰 I have a blog post where I showed step by step how I made it: iseestarsquilting.com/diy-sewing-machine-cover/ I also have a video filmed (but not quite edited yet) where I show a little more detail on it and talk about the process of making it. Keep an eye out for it! I plan to post it in a few weeks 🥳
I have been quilting for many years and was self taught. I think this would be good for me to pick up anything that I missed years ago. I think might reinforce what I learned.
Thanks for the explanation of this box. It’d be great for someone just starting out. I have heard bad things about the fabric on many channels but a friend got one of the boxes and to be honest the fabric wasn’t bad at all! I hope they have improved the proofing of the magazine because big mistakes can really defeat a beginner.
Thanks for sharing. I am new to quilting but this looks like a lovely box. I love that blue palette. I have been sewing for about 10 years and use fabrics from many sources. I have bought fabric I didn’t love from Mood in NYC and fabric that I loved from Dollar Tree. I have found a way to make everything work. 😊
As one not interested in most subscription boxes, I do enjoy learning about them. I love how you took the time to explain the progression of the Mrs. Quilty boxes subscription. Hopefully, this helps many figure out if it's the right fit for them or not.
This was a great review explaining what the purpose of this specific subscription box is. I don’t need a subscription box of anything right now, but when I was a beginner something like this with progressions would have been absolutely wonderful.
It looks like Mrs Quilty has done a LOT of improvement since I got two boxes earlier this year. I didn’t have the page that describes the different level of boxes. My largest complaint was that the directions have errors. I would appreciate an update after you have tried using the directions. I agree that the boxes I got would generally be good for a beginner if the directions were correct-otherwise it is frustrating. I consider myself in the advanced beginner to early intermediate. They were very generous with the amount of fabric in the box, so would be good for a beginner to help build a stash. Thanks for the review of the current box.
I just got my first box. Other than the ruler and the booklet - the fabric was different, and I got a pin cushion rather than pins. I liked the fabric I received - but, to be honest, I would not have combined the colors that they did. There is not enough contrast in the prints. But, I will use the fabric for stash building.
Great job explaining subscription boxes. While they are not for me personally, I would never fault someone for choosing them especially if they are beginners or are wanting to build up their stash.
Thank you for your honesty. I myself had a few boxes of Mrs. Quilt. In some of the boxes the cut directions are wrong. So please read and understand before cutting. But I still really enjoyed the boxes.
When I started quilting I would have loved to get a box like Mrs. Quilty. Yes, it may not be top quality fabric but at least I wouldn’t have lost my entire months quilting allowance making mistakes and experimenting. I’m still new and would still love something like Mrs. Quilty to practice with.
Appreciate your review and explanation.... I think there is better value, and non disappointment in just going out, buy a nice charm pack or some on sale nice yardage and make and learn off youtube and on your own,...half the time, the fabric IS cheap, not your style, and crap that you don't use or like, in the box... Use that $40 a month, and go to Joanns or Michael's or an acual quilt shop, and find fabric on sale, that you pick out on your own...nothing is worse than sewing a project with fabric you hate, and that you paid for.
Thank you. I'm a confident beginner. I did a lot of general sewing before I took on quilting. I am a total gadget geek. I jump in and buy every gizmo I see. I like the idea of the box that gradually gets your skills built up. I am considering buying it. Maybe going back to basic skills will help me get past being a beginner. I've quilted on and off 10 years and still have technical issues. I'm not picky on fabric. I buy from Walmart, Joann, and Hobby Lobby. Occasionally, I buy quilt shop fabric. I have a hard time justifying the price. Most of the quilts that I make are donated or given away. I bargain hunt fabric. I am not opposed to polyester blends, though I prefer cotton.
Thank your for this review. I was considering the Mrs. Quilty box, but your explanation of what it is had made me decide that it is not for me. I am not a beginner quilter. On another subject, can you point me to the pattern for the paper pieced sewing machine cover on the shelf behind you in this video? Thanks.
I do not prewash my fabrics. It really comes down to quilter opinions. However, I feel like you have to pick one side or the other. When you're making a quilt, you shouldn't use 1/2 unwashed fabric and 1/2 washed fabric because they will behave differently on the first machine wash and all that work to have it distort or do something funny in the wash is not worth the risk I think.
I am an experienced quilter. I do like getting fabric for a quilt. I tried Mrs Quilty but use it just for the material which isn’t the highest quality. I did Fat Quarter Shop as well but didn’t like the small projects. Do you have a subscription that you would recommend for a large quilt project that just supplies the fabric?
I would look into shopping for quilt kits. Subscription boxes that are surprizes in the mail are often lower priced because people dont want to spend a large amount and gamble with possibly not liking the fabric selections. I just posted a video on a specialty holiday box that I purchased from The Ginger Quilter: th-cam.com/video/HvVmp7yp-FE/w-d-xo.html It was a surprise what we got in the mail, but I knew it was going to be a Halloween themed box. She is doing another one for Christmas this year! You should take a look at that and see if it is something you're interested in getting!
I have watched a few unboxing of Mrs quilty and as I was watching, the fabric patterns looked familiar. When I first started sewing over a year ago, I ordered the same fabrics from Amazon. Exact patterns/colors, but instead a layer cake for like $17. I just don’t think that’s a coincidence and the precuts I got from Amazon were very cheap feeling and looking to be honest. I do use them for small projects but never would use them on a quilt.
In the U.K. Aldi and Lidl sell fabrics as part of their special buy promotions. I’ve bought and used lots of it over the years, they have great licensed Disney kids fabrics etc but I always like to feel it before I buy it as it’s not all the same quality. Some of it can be perfectly fine but some is a little too thin or the weave is a bit loose and others can feel course to the touch. Weirdly I hear a lot of people complain about Liberty Tana Lawn which is at the opposite end of the price scale. It’s main use was for dressmaking so the WOF is a lot bigger than quilting cotton and it’s very fine so people often assume it won’t wear well but it has a very high thread count as is very strong and hardwearing. With fabric if in doubt buy a little bit and try it. I’ve had LQS fabric that’s not been cheap but hasn’t been great quality so that’s not a guarantee of quality. I think most subscription boxes are great for new quilters you can build your stash, get patterns, often threads and notions too. If you’ve been quilting a while you might not find all these things meet your needs or are as attractive.
Hi, so sorry if this comes off as know-it-all, but you referred to the “republic of China”. I wanted to let you know that the term “Republic of China” (ROC) is *Taiwan*, different from the country commonly called China. China is the “People’s Republic of China” (PRC). I only mention this because there is an important political distinction and controversy between these two countries. Probably not what you want in your quilty space, though. Thanks for showing what is in the subscription box. Beautiful sewing machine cover in your background, by the way.
I had the subscription for 6 months. I have found several flaws with the instructions. As I am teaching myself to sewing & quilt I asked a friend to read over them as well. Honestly, she just started giggling! She said it was a good thing I have good common sense! I very much enjoyed my boxes & the projects anyway!
I have some questions. When you get to the end of the 10 boxes, does it end? If not, what happens? The magazine has quite a chemical smell that seems to permeate the fabric. It was nice to get two packs of fat quarters, but would have been nice to not get two the same. Mine were a different color way than yours. Not exciting fabrics, but ok. Maybe get one half yard bundle instead? The ruler and wrist pin cushion were nice. In my box, everything was loose, no tissue paper or cute mesh bag like yours. It was a bit crushed in shipping, but nothing damaged. Just some thoughts that hopefully you can pass on to the company as you said you are sponsored. I will use the items and will continue for now to subscribe. I will most likely make placemats with my fabrics and will run them through the wash to see how the fabric holds up. Thank you for the review.
As someone who is picky about well, everything... The boxes sound like a good idea in theory but I rather pick my own fabric, patterns etc. Doesn't mean that subscription boxes are bad. I think a beginner box set that helps someone progress is a good idea. IF you want to go that route. It's just not for me. I don't feel like I'd need a subscription box to make mug rugs (and I feel like I'm fairly new to quilting - 3-4 years in) but I get that everyone starts with different projects for whatever reason. I like the IDEA of getting something in the mail every month, just not paying for something I didn't "really" pick according to my taste, fabric being the hard one for me. I already have so much fabric I was given ( that I will use eventually, have used some of already but most of it just makes me go "I have no idea what to use this for", because the fabric just doesn't "speak" to me.)
I’ve gotten three boxes. I would have gotten four, but the box I was supposed to get today was not sturdy enough for the shipping journey, and an empty box was delivered. Customer service immediately responded and said they would send a replacement, so can’t complain about the customer service at all. However, I had switched my subscription to quarterly because I wasn’t utterly thrilled what I had received. The fabric quality is okay, but no better than the stuff at Joann or Walmart. You get some extra doodads, but you don’t get everything you need. I got the zipper for the cosmetic bag, but not the batting? For a small quilt project? Kill the crappy doodads and give me what I need.
I think the box has changed from when i used to get it. Never received pins or rulers that would have been useful. In one box i received 7 clips as the "gift". There was templates on my boxes but didn't want to cut my magazines up and no way to trace them at that time. When i saw templates and no measurements for a simple block, I was done. My friend tried it once and was disappointed. She canceled immediately. Wosh i had canceled earlier as well. I will stick with sew sampler.
Thank you! 🥳 I have a blog post where I showed step by step how to make it: iseestarsquilting.com/diy-sewing-machine-cover/ I also have a video that I have filmed (but not quite edited yet) that I will post some more details on it in a few weeks 🥰 Keep an eye out for it!
This is an update. I was so excited to try the subscription but was disappointed when I saw the fabric they sent. It is not 100% cotton and felt weird and I knew I would not use it in a quilt. It felt like it had a lot of polyester in it. Not quilting fabric for me. I also was disappointed in the sewing items they sent. The were not good quality. So, I canceled the subscription and moved on. There are other subscriptions out there that are more worth it.
It’s NO deal for Canadians. With today’s exchange rate it works out to over $61.00 with today’s exchange @ 1.36. Shipping was almost 13.00 USD alone. The reviews have been all over the place. I can do a lot more with my $60
It’s NO deal for Australians either! With our terrible exchange rate the box itself is quite expensive and after postage the total ends up by being over $70. I read reviews from the very beginning saying that the fabric is coarse and cheap, so that alone puts me off. The concept is good idea, but they will really need to up their game with the quality of the fabric if they want to keep their customers.
I love my Mrs.Quilty boxes I've gotten about 5 now. Love the fabric and the surprises they send. I've gotten scissors, thread holders and bobbin holders, pins and in the winter you get some kind of snack. Cookies , candy bars, tea. Always excited when it comes. You can change it to monthly or bi monthly anyway you would like it. They have some really cute animals can't wait for that box. Thanks for sharing ❤
Did this subscription box change ? I subscribed 3 mo. ago and was so disappointed. The fabric is not very good. The book was helpful I was missing the chocolates. The tea was old and flavorless.the twill tape was is good. I decided to cancel my subscription before the next box. I decided I would rather spend the money on fabric or supplies I really wanted or needed. They rated the price of that box as $87.91. Even in todays economy was it worth that. Sorry but I have to be honest.
Thank you for sharing. I hate that happened to you. I'm sure there are boxes that go out that aren't 100% which happens, but still upsetting. I thank you for being honest. We all learn from each other.
My box was flimsy - open when I received it and all that was left was the fabric and I felt it was not quality. I sent a message and received no response. I cancelled.
I had a 3-month subscription and 1s month I got 16 fat quarters, then month 2, 3, and 4 I got only 12 fat quarters, and the fabrics are not great, and I don't like the patterns and the extras like clips, seam ripper etc. are cheap! Plus, its $31.97 but with shipping its just under $40. I would rather go buy the $40 in fabric and tools I like and watch your tube for projects.
There are gimmicks and this sounds like one. I get why people want a quick learning on quilting. Personally, I say, go to a local quilt store, start on a small project with fabric you LOVE, ask questions, and enjoy the process it is not a race.
Ugh! I should have watched your video before ordering. I have a feeling I will be canceling immediately after receiving Box 1. On Pinterest, they show these super cute stuffed animals they allegedly had in a box. I think not. On their website where people post their projects, nobody shows any of those cute stuffed animals. I assumed this was something like the Fat Quarter Shop's monthly box; apparently not. Live and learn.
I did a 6 month subscription and decided to cancel...I have received 2 boxes since then after I was reassured they were not going to se d anymore. Bad communication practices also
Not wanting to create a firestorm, just an honest question. Not sure where else I might ask. Admin please delete if too controversial. My question. Pros cons to using Waverley fabric from Walmart? Recently in another town and Walmart is down sizing fabric area. Some 100% cotton is marked down to $2.00 - $3.00 a yard. It may or may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it may be just right for some.
I have a video where I used walmart fabric for a quilt! th-cam.com/video/4HBezwNAJ28/w-d-xo.html I think that it really comes down to personal preference and budget, but I didn't see any reason that it should not be used... especially at the bargain closeout prices! I would stock up on several large cuts to use as quilt backings!
Thank you the detailed explanation you gave on this box. I have heard so many pros and cons I wasn’t sure what to believe. I’m now thinking this box would be great for my granddaughter who is learning to sew and quilt.
I received my first box last year and did not get any tools. I got a very small bag of lavender and a short piece of ric rac. I don’t think that what I received was worth even the price that I paid. When I was reading through the instructions for the projects I thought that some instructions were missing in order to complete the project. I am new to sewing and was very disappointed. I cancelled the subscription right away.
BUYER BEWARE !! I have gotten the first “free” box and told whoever is behind Mrs. Quilty I didn’t want another box….. I received a 2nd box anyway charged to my account. These boxes have very cheap fabric , not worth the money.
Mrs Quilty has totally changed the box! I got three last year and then cancelled it. The tools were not of good quality like your box. The instructions were cheesy. If my box was as good as what you showed, I wouldn’t have cancelled it.
I tried to cancel.... It won't .... Very disappointed in quality. Couldn't see where it was skill building I can't get a response from them either. Bad subscription as far as I am concerned!!
Not for beginners, don’t give as a gift to a beginner. Not a lower price box either. And the instructions are not very good. Sometimes even wrong. Fabric is rather cheap. I get better at any fabric store especially if I wait for a sale. Too expensive for what you get. I honestly think a box like that should have everything you need. Especially beginners don’t have it at home.
I got my first box today. Cancelled my subscription. The quality and value just isn't worth it. I've been quilting less than a year and consider myself a beginner but there's no point learning with crappy tools and badly written patterns
This didn’t feel like an honest review. Most particularly your comment on the fabric. You went along way to be polite and not say it’s good or bad. Can you confirm if you are or have ever been sponsored by this brand?
Hi Sue, This is a sponsored video and is classified as a paid sponsorship on TH-cam. Mrs. Quilty paid me for the video and sent me the box free of charge. My opinions are my own and Mrs. Quilty has no say in my opinion or they way I choose to film the video. I don't believe the fabric is "bad"... it just may not be up to the standards some people are accustomed to. I like this comparison example: I'm happy to buy the cheaper cuts of steak on occasion to feed my very hungry family because it fits within our budget and it is still delicious as a meal - a foodie expert will prefer a fillet or a higher priced cut because it is what they are used to or they have more budget available. I believe it is a matter of perspective more than "good" or "bad". Thanks for sharing your concerns! I'm always happy to be open and honest with my opinions to my viewers. 🥰
It would have been nice if you had just told us it was a sponsored video up front. I feel like I was tricked into watching this and I hate to say this because I like you but I don’t trust you as much now. I don’t believe this video was an unbiased review.
Thanks for the explanation of this box. It’d be great for someone just starting out. I have heard bad things about the fabric on many channels but a friend got one of the boxes and to be honest the fabric wasn’t bad at all! With TH-cam, you can learn how to do anything regarding quilting from the simplest projects to the most complex of techniques.
Thanks for the explanation of this box. It’d be great for someone just starting out. I have heard bad things about the fabric on many channels but a friend got one of the boxes and to be honest the fabric wasn’t bad at all! I am sure some get a not so great batch, but hopefully they are helpful to each person that gets one.

Great job explaining subscription boxes. While they are not for me personally, I would never fault someone for choosing them especially if they are beginners or are wanting to build up their stash.
I agree, it's a fun little gift to arrive and help someone get started.
Nice that they let you know what the next box will be❤
Yes, it is very helpful for sure.
I used to get this box. I love the fabrics that came with the box. I think I was getting overwhelmed with all of the subscription boxes I was getting.
I could see that happening. They are fun to get! 🥰
you explained this very well 💃thx for making this video!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for your honesty. I myself had a few boxes of Mrs. Quilt. In some of the boxes the cut directions are wrong. So please read and understand before cutting. But I still really enjoyed the boxes.
Thank you so much for sharing that.

@ISeeStarsQuilting I used your code and ordered a box. I'll give it a try.
Ahhh, Friday night winddown and a Christen video to watch - yay! 🤗🤗🤗
Hope you enjoyed it!
@@ISeeStarsQuilting I always do! Big fan… well, more of an air conditioner, as the joke goes - teehee 😂🤗🫶
Thank you for your honest and affirming review! I get Mrs. Quilty boxes and the things have held up really well...I personally really enjoy mine.
I am so happy to hear that.
I cancelled mine after one box.
Thank your for this review. I was considering the Mrs. Quilty box, but your explanation of what it is had made me decide that it is not for me. I am not a beginner quilter. I ordered one and I like it. I have a question, as a brand new quilter- do I need to wash my fabric first?

She is doing another one for Christmas this year! You should take a look at that and see if it is something you're interested in getting!
Look into BOMs, block of the month programs. You will get one quilt block pattern including the necessary fabric each month.
Wow interesting. Thank you for sharing this.
Yes, I think it is so so nice for beginners as well. And I had no Idea those stores sold fabric in the UK, that is so neat.
Love you Kristen!
You are so sweet, thank you for watching.
I love that fabric
Thanks so much.
Hi, new subscriber here. I love the blue fabric. I love good polka dot, too, and also a good stripe.
Thanks for subbing! Thank you for sharing, I love those ideas as well.
Thank you for sharing that.
I love your sewing machine cover in the background. Where can I purchase that pattern? Great video!
I have a video coming up Sunday that answers all your questions! It's been a very popular request 😁
Thanks for sharing
You bet!
Thanks
No problem
It sounds like you had a rough experience with shipping, but great customer service!
Thank you for sharing, so sorry about the boxes you got.
I love your sewing machine cover! Is there a pattern?
Thank you! 🥳 I have a blog post where I showed step by step how to make it: iseestarsquilting.com/diy-sewing-machine-cover/
I also have a video that I have filmed (but not quite edited yet) that I will post some more details on it in a few weeks 🥰 Keep an eye out for it!
@@ISeeStarsQuilting thank you!
This was helpful
I am so glad.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, I really appreciate it!
Wow, that would not be worth it for sure.
That is so great to hear! Thank you.
@@ISeeStarsQuilting yes we do🙂
Mrs. Quilty is now being shipped from the US. I just got a box shipped from Indiana. The fabric was ok but the book wasn't as good.
I totally understand where you are coming from. We all like what we like. :)
So sorry. I hope you get a good box.
I did a 6 month subscription and decided to cancel...I have received 2 boxes since then after I was reassured they were not going to se d anymore. Bad communication practices also
Saw fabric on Temu. Vèry cheap fabric. Need rulers, not paper template's
Glad it was helpful!
I hate to hear that, I am so sorry.
I felt Mrs quilty wasn't worth the money
I did tell you it is not worth it. But some things you need to try out for yourself. It was very disappointing
It's cheap fabrics from TEMU and Amazon. Not Worth it.
BUYER BEWARE !! I have gotten the first “free” box and told whoever is behind Mrs. Quilty I didn’t want another box….. I received a 2nd box anyway charged to my account. These boxes have very cheap fabric , not worth the money.
Wow! So sorry that happened.
Got the box twice first one was OK. Second one wasn’t really great. Definitely not worth the money for me.
Mrs Quilty has totally changed the box! I got three last year and then cancelled it. The tools were not of good quality like your box. The instructions were cheesy. If my box was as good as what you showed, I wouldn’t have cancelled it.
I hate that it was inconsistent for you.
I tried to cancel.... It won't .... Very disappointed in quality. Couldn't see where it was skill building I can't get a response from them either. Bad subscription as far as I am concerned!!
I'm so sorry that happened. I sure hope they can help you.
Cancelled it after the second box, not worth the money.
This box ads make the fabrics look cheap and unappealing
Not for beginners, don’t give as a gift to a beginner. Not a lower price box either. And the instructions are not very good. Sometimes even wrong. Fabric is rather cheap. I get better at any fabric store especially if I wait for a sale. Too expensive for what you get. I honestly think a box like that should have everything you need. Especially beginners don’t have it at home.
Yes a beginner box should have it all I agree. :(
I got my first box today. Cancelled my subscription. The quality and value just isn't worth it. I've been quilting less than a year and consider myself a beginner but there's no point learning with crappy tools and badly written patterns
Oh no! I hate that happened, but I agree if it is not good, no need using it.
I hope they have improved the proofing of the magazine because big mistakes can really defeat a beginner.
