Since we can't read Korean, we missed it. But when the police officer was looking at his brother's file in the Front Man's office, it referenced that he was a disgraced former police officer

@@CodyCha nah. he is just a guy whos entire perspective on life and the value of life changed from playing the game. Who knows what he experienced and what he had to do. Whatever it was, it made him choose to become the front man.

@@KitsunesTrove I think it's a remote possibility. If it turns out to be true, I think it's an entangled relationship such as Frontman growing up not knowing who his father was. Regardless, there are some decent clues. 1) Frontman inherits the operation from Il-nam. 2) The detective and Gi-hoon lived in the same neighborhood, and the old man met Gi-hoon at the corner store.
@@SpicyTurk the Frontman was on the course to be the elite class in the law enforcement. Notice he became an Inspector (2nd in command to the chief) straight out of the academy. He was an agent at the most coveted law enforcement agency in the country. The bribery charge on his record meant that he would never be able to work in law enforcement ever again. He basically lost 20 years of life's work in an instant. That changed his life and led him to play the game. His bio shows that he was unemployed when he joined the game.
The actor who plays the Frontman also stars in a fantastic Korean revenge film called "I Saw The Devil". It is extremely gory but one of the best Revenge/ Serial Killer vs Cop films I've ever seen if anyone wants to check it out.

The fact that so many people got so emotional over some fictional characters proves how great this show and the actors/actresses were
I HATED 218 as soon as he betrayed Ali. Then he killed the girl, and I had to immediately watch the last episode to see the outcome. Such a great show.

If GH had killed SW in his sleep, you will say it is understandable. Even though SW has a more valid reason than GH to kill SB, you still condemn.
SW did all these because he felt that he had wronged his mum, and he wanted to put things back to where it belongs. Everyone had their own stories and reason.
I believe the majority of people were upset, can’t wait for you to see the finale!!!
Such a great show. Sang-woo definitely has a great character arc. Don't know the actor's name offhand, but huge props to him and the writers/director...guy did a phenomenal job to make people hate him so much... Heartbreaking to see Sae-Byok's character die like that... She did win a SAG award for her acting; pretty phenomenal considering this was her first acting job. Can't wait to watch your reaction to the finale

I love how this is a death game with only one survivor and Kazzy keeps calling people “jerks,” “rude,” and saying they aren’t playing fair. 🤣

@@opsoo2229 This game and all the past games we saw only had one winner. There is nothing to indicate they would allow multiple winners other than the assumptions some of the players made and obviously they’re not in a position to know.

@@opsoo2229 Those were kids playing on a playground. This is a death game on a private island played to entertain the super rich manipulated to only have one winner and, based on what we saw, has never had multiple winners.

8:25 On an island in international waters he has no more police authority than anyone else. Even if all the "proof" reached his precinct they have zero jurisdiction.
This one hurt too. Sae-Byok was my favorite character to win, and I hated Sang-woo's guts after that. Of course the writers didn't help with dumb glass too.
I don't hate Sang-woo, but I can neither condone nor excuse his actions. People tend to either say he's "a survivor" or talk about hating him after he killed Ali. The important thing to remember is that Sang-woo's willingness to screw over *literally* anyone is incredibly consistent, not only during the show but also for years before he's a contestant. He's only in the game because he made high reward, high risk stock gambles with not only his own money, but also the money of others (illegally), even his mother's home and shop. We already saw his stripes in episode three, when he was willing to let his teammates be killed in the cookie game (for NO good reason). Sang-woo was a snake long before he was contestant 218.
you have to remember that he was born and conditioned to act that way. High expectations set upon at an early, needing to please family, high stakes career path. not an excuse, but it's a factor.

The harvesting of the organs stopped when the doctor and the employees were killed and hung to be displayed in front of the players. Also, the cop was only shot in the shoulder. He may have survived.

According to those files in the Front Man's office, there was only one winner from each game.
Very true, but that doesn't mean there CAN only be one winner. In theory everyone could pass "Red Light, Green Light", everyone could pass "Honeycombe" and everyone could pass "Glass Stepping Stones" while "Tug-of-war" and "Marbles" reduce the field by 50% each. I can't comment on the last game, obviously. However, going into the last game this means there COULD be a field of 114 contestants left. Unlikely, highly unlikely, but logically possible. Honestly, in theory, everyone could also have died in "Red Light, Green Light", "Honeycombe" or "Glass Stepping Stones" (more tiles existed than people) too. Also, while opportunity exists for contestants to kill each other they are not required to. So yes, there has only been one survivor in all the games played this far but literally nothing about it says it HAS TO be that way. It could be a larger number or even 0.

Sae Byok didn't want to betray how seriously she was injured while still trying to elicit a promise from Gi Hun. It really sucks that she died without having heard the words, because he wasn't picking up on the subtext.
I'm amazed the cop's phone hasn't run out of power.

I think that it is ok to enjoy a show without enjoying all the things that happen in the show. This show in particular can be very gruesome but I think it is done for several reasons. 1) it does give you a strong emotional connection to the characters when we lose someone like Ali or Sae-byeok. 2) I think they intended to give people like you a horrified reaction to contrast from the VIP's, who genuinely enjoy and minimize the impact of it. I think they intended to show that you are not like the VIP's. 3) Think back to the 1st episode when Gi-hun is clearly the main character but not a very likeable character, stealing from his mom, gambling, lying to his daughter. Sang-woo was presented as a quite, respected business man, #1 in his school. If you look at the confrontation between them at the start of this episode you can clearly see how much these events have changed them. Gi-hun is much stronger and determined to fix his life and not cheat to get there, while Sang-woo is willing to say or do anything to win and will justify it however he can. I think this is an an exaggerated version of life. Some of us come to a crossroads in our life and become a better person, while some of us choose the wrong path.
yes but the degree to which the world corrupted sang woo was also present from the beginning. he lost billions of other people's money gambling it on risky financial instruments, and he mortgaged his mothers business as well. capitalism made sang woo greedy. gi hyun was doing ok until he lost his job and saw his friend killed trying to unionize. the world broke gi hyun. i'm not saying gi hyuns gambling and neglecting his daughter was excused cus bad things happened to him, but it's at least a mitigating factor. the point is that capitalism perverts our humanity. in sang woo it resulted in avarice, pride, ruthlessness, and a collapsed ability to respect human life. In gi hyun, it led to addiction as a coping mechanism for a world in which his humanity could not adjust. that inability becomes even more pronounced in the wake of the games, until it results in the hero's arc.

I advise you to continue with the korean shows, you'll be surprised how good they are, another universe

The Front Man who was the cops brother did win the game several years earlier. Then, they must have recruited him to come back and be the Front Man. I guess he was new at being the Front Man, otherwise the family would have been looking for him for a lot longer.
Yes, there can be multiple winners, because the last game is a team game. It just happened that every winner had been solo.

The Girl injured in the Bridge Explosion, should have been able to receive Medical Attention so that she could have a "Fair" chance.
It's kind of implied that the staff of the games don't have a doctor "on staff" since the Front Man has to dig the bullet out of his own shoulder at the end of the episode.

That doesn't seem like it happened by accident, Guards that can't leave, on a Closed off Island, and they just happened to all Smuggle Medical equipment in.. on the off chance a Doctor happened to be selected?
Seems more likely they have a Dr. (and the "Harvesters" are misusing his stuff) with limited equipment.
@@lokithecat7225 the game only lasts for a week, only once a year. The guards aren't imprisoned on the island. They're willing participants. Otherwise, they wouldn't possess fullauto machine guns. They go out to pick up and drop off players too.
Multiple winners are allowed, it's just not how it played out this time in their history of conducting these games

I hope enough people get you to watch Haunting of Hill House. Yeah it’s a horror show, but the ghosts are secondary to the absolutely INCREDIBLE and brilliant story telling. Plus it’s a standalone season. 10 episodes and that’s it. By episode 10, all of the questions you had have been answered.
No Joke! I just saw “Once Were Warriors” last week. A movie that came out in 1994. Incredible film! I HIGHLY recommend to everyone

imo: you/we like it because of the (extreme) emotional rollercoaster ride.
I've said before that the koreans are master manipulators: that moment when you and all of the audience see Sang Woo standing in the background and then realize what that meant is one of the best orchestrated emotional moments I've seen since the arya/nightking-throat-clutching moment and is one of the best parts of any of the very entertaining reaction compilations of this series.

It shows human nature in a disgusting extreme situation where it's set up to not let your better selves come to the fore without probably dying , and when you do die it still seems that it was for nothing as the game just continues. You have intelligence, empathy and enjoy creativity . I couldn't imagine you giving any other type of response and the series ends before you get jaded .

If In-ho got shot in the shoulder then he lives, Jun-ho might live in the next Season. I gottta tell you the death of Sae-byeok, Jun-ho and Ali is one of the most emotional. Can't wait for your last reaction to this series.

My take on why the front man shot his brother is that he did not want to and did not want to kill him, however in order to get his brothers trust he had to take of the mask and that meant the front man would be subject to the same rule about not showing his face, and since his brother refused to be taken prisoner he had to die or both of them would die. Like i say i don't think the front man wanted to kill him and if we look back at every event the front man shot someone he always shot them in the head to ensure a kill, but with his brother he intentionally shot in the shoulder which is fairly survivable and he fell in water. I suspect or well hope that we will see the cop again in season 2
Wife and I watch a lot of Korean series and movies mostly on Netflix and I tell you what, it's like they flipping INVENTED melodrama.
If you can watch most any decent Korean series and not be brought to tears or nearly so at some point, you're a cold son-of-a-gun.
Pick-pocket girl (067) would still be alive if she didn't stop Gi-hun (456) to kill Sang-woo (218)

It's funny, there's 2 sides to the coin of extreme conditions. As you said, maybe they bring out who you really are. That may very well be. My view is sometimes we just lose control. Survival instinct is a crazy thing! 218's life may not have been in immediate danger, but they've all been staring at their own demise for how long? I'd LOVE to say I'd have helped her out, but if I haven't had my meds, on the edge of a brutal death in all these games, maybe I'd snap and kill them both? Everyone has a breaking point.
218 was a ruthless criminal, think about his issue he was in a position of trust and stole millions from investors
When you think about it. Gi-hun could be blamed for Saebyeok’s death, too. I mean what made him THINK the people behind the games would actually care this time to give treatment to an injured player after everything that happened. By doing so, he left her alone for her to be killed and he knows what Sang-woo capable of
Yeah, Gi-hun shouldn't have listened to Saebyeok and went after Sang-woo when he had the chance.

At what point did you think Sang-Wu was a decent human being….? Since episode one we’ve known that he squandered not only his money, but his mothers house and business. In episode 3 he knew what the game was with the honeycomb and still let Gi-Hun choose the umbrella - the hardest shape. In episode 6, he completely manipulated Ali by guilt tripping him into trusting him and then cheated to win and Ali died. In episode 7 he shoved dude off the glass stepping stone.
Not sure where you got the idea he was ever a decent human.
I am the kinda guy that can watch a show in surgery while eating a steak. Not much really bothers me. The only two that come to mind I struggled watching was a scene in Hostel 2 where they are cutting up some women and really getting into it that is a bit too cringe even for me and the other is a scene in The hills have eyes...
The only thing 218 did wrong in the episode was not killing 456 instead to face the weaker opponent in the final.

I watch the movie Yaksha yesterday, Park Hae-soo who played Sang Woo was in it. Cant help but to hate his character in the movie because all i can remember about him is what Sang Woo did in squid game lol

If you remove hysterical emotion from it and look at it objectively, pretty much all of Sang-woo’s actions are very logical. Also most of them are what 99%+ of other ppl would do… whether they’re willing to admit it or not.

Also, next time you feel a visceral hatred towards any character, just remind yourself that it's not real and they're just actors playing their roles.

Exactly. That’s why Sang-woo is the most interesting character of the show because he divides the viewers and makes people question “who are you really?” and “If you were in a situation like this, would do something like this?”
