Definitely agree. The only difference is that The Red Wedding gave a major shock factor without giving viewers enough time to prepare emotionally what was to come. Gganbu on other hand gave us that time, but the emotional built-up was like a slow and painful torture, towards the end.
On a lighter note, I know you have some shows lined up to watch/react to, but can I recommend to consider adding Resident Alien in your list? It's a light-hearted comedy that's pretty hilarious and is not overly brutal so it may give you a bit of a break from all the violent and gory shows.

This is definitely a hard one to watch. All of the characters who died were sad to see, but Ji Yeong is the one that really got to me…

This episode was sooo emotionally draining. The visuals and brutality are hard to watch through the show, but emotional investment in the characters is beyond most shows we watch in America. Makes this episode all the more crushing.

This episode is extremely hard for me to watch due to personal family trauma. My grandpa had a brain tumor when I was a child, I remember it all so vividly and they got Il Nam perfectly. My grandpa would forget everything constantly, and I mean everything. Who we were and what our names were, to where he was and even what age he was. He thought the house was his childhood home, thought we were brothers and sisters or his parents. And he would go in and our of lucidity, remembering not remembering which frustrated him beyond end. When he died, it was on new years day. It had gotten so bad he really didn't know who anyone was but literally minutes before he passed he remembered everyone and told us he loved us and how sorry he was for forgetting. So how they did Il Nam with his tumor was actually very realistic, it destroyed me.

This episode right there makes me cry every time I watch it.
The scene where Ji-Yeong sacrifices herself and then eventually gets shot was just devastating for me to watch... Also, it made me think about whether anyone of us actually has someone in our own circle of friends/family that would do the same things for us, if we found ourselves in the same situation.... Not sure how many would do what she did. Sacrificing is easier said than done...
Why are we all afraid of death? One is the pain, the other is the unknown after death. That is why stating that she has nothing to look forward to and that is why it is easy for her to sacrifice her life is crap. It is still extremely difficult especially since she barely knew Sae Byeok.
Ill-nam's sacrifice hit me pretty hard when I watched this. I thought about this episode a lot afterwards as well.
The acting...so impressive, any character is a perfection.
Your face when you realized the implications... Priceless. And same. When I saw this episode for the first time I was gutted by the end. It's the cruelest game.

I’ve been waiting for you to react to this episode. Definitely a tear jerker.
This show is an allegory which is another way of portraying our society and the violence visited upon us by the oligarchs, super rich, chaebols, or whatever they are called in your country. The guards represent the middle class who participate in the violence most of the times unknowingly or unwillingly for fear of losing what they have.
This episode and episode 2 make this show different than others of its kind. They get you emotionally invested.😢

Yea this is devastating. I cried most when the girls had their moment and then she sacrificed herself.

Your theory about exchanging marbles are actually one of the biggest theory on how to survive this game,, the rule is to have all 10 marbles from your partner, so if they just exchange the pack of marbles, then they both survive.

Re-watched this again and Oh Il-nam's death still gets me even more now more than ever, I think it's because I imagine if my dad got to live to that age. I hadn't quite cried to fictional characters much but this episode gutted me all over again 😭 Gi hun was the only one who was nice to him throughout I would be a depressed broken man if I had to say goodbye to a true friend
Trust me when I tell you that at least 98% of people I know that watched it along with streamers sobbed on this episode so you are amongst good company lol

I have been eagerly awaiting this reaction. I hope you had a big box of Kleenex ready Kazzy. EDITED to add: I found the show funny due to the ridiculous concept. I kept watching because I wanted to see what would happen. Then I watched this episode and realized I was being ridiculous. I watched the first 5 again, looking at them much more seriously. Wow, so good.
Yup, this episode broke EVERYBODY, even ironic hipster dude reactors. The actress who played the loosing girl player also had a harrowing role in the zombie series 'All of us are dead'.
I see your ironic hipster dudes aren't quite ironically hipster ENOUGH, because at my amazing level I had this thing figured out since episode 2, which took a lot of the emotion out of this episode. Then again, I'm not a reactor.
@@lassesipila6418 I knew for sure that Ji-yeong was going to drop her marble, yet when she dropped it, my heart sank and my tears also dropped.
This game was the one that would end any delusion any of these people might have had that they could do this, win, and then otherwise step back into their lives. You can see on Sang Woo, Sae Byok, Gi Hun's faces that they aren't going to be the same after what they've done, or what was done to/for them

This episode was so well done. No matter how many times I watch that ending still gets to me.
I think generally it's easier to watch the blood and violence. I don't think most of us jump and freak with the gore like you do. However this episode cuts deep and breaks everyone. It's abnormal if you don't cry during this episode.

I didn't watch this show when it first came out. I've heard so many people go on about how great it is and EVERYBODY went on about Episode 6 being heartbreaking... Usually when I hear so much praise about a show it ends up not being able to live up to the hype but this one did not have that trouble. It's a horrible, amazing and gut wrenching show that pulls you in deep. I've watched a number of TH-camrs react to episode 6 and I think I've teared up every time.
This was an incredible piece of television, one of the greatest episodes in TV history. I think Ozymandias, from the final season Breaking Bad is the best hour of TV I have ever seen, but I am sure Squid Game will have even more drama for us in the coming seasons.
the gamesters-not-from-triskelion may claim to be fair, but they can't claim to be honest. the "teams" selection would have gone very differently had the players been told they'd be choosing "opponents" rather than "partners". for example, instead of being the odd man out (but for gi-hun's sympathy), the old man would've been the most sought-after player, since most would assume he'd be the easiest to beat (and who's already got one foot in the grave anyway).

it's worse if you understand korean - when ali was calling sangwoo "hyung", it mean "big brother". in korean, it gets used not just for biological brothers but as a sign of someone you like and respect.

It's been a long time since I have invested so much in a series. This one I cried like a baby!!!! I had to stand up grunt like a caveman and chant sports stats to regain my "stereotypical" masculinity (LOL just kidding).
Always remember Kazzy that similar situations like the ones in "Squid Game" happen pretty much all the time in places like Communist China, and North Korea.
Total nonsense. China is even more cosmopolitan than USA. I have been there many times and it is an awesome country with bullet trains everywhere, state of the art malls, everywhere are superclean, no homelessness and no guns, and no poor people.
Not sure about North Korea, but I won't spout nonsense like you with no proof.

This episode in general really tugs at the heart strings and is a real tear jerker. when Ali was calling for sang woo and Ji-yeong smiling while thanking sae-byeok for playing with her just killed me... I knew at the moment something was fishy about the old mans death though because they never showed it.

Well true but there is a difference, Sang Woo had no remorse and actively and intentionally confused and manipulated and even figured out a plan to win, Ji-Han was remorseful from the very moment he did it and the nature of it changes at the end to show that it was not Ji-Han for taking advantage of Oh-ilnam but the old man manipulating Ji-Han, the old man could easily have won but wanted to give Ji-han a way out
Because Oh II nam was going to die anyway and Gi hun knew it.

Boon docks is pretty good but I think you should do Bojack Horseman. I think you will enjoy the comedy and depth of that show. It's truly one of a kind and not enough reactors doing it.
