But another way to look at him forcing Gi Hun to win is also selfishness. Sang Woo knows that if they both quit, he would get nothing even in death. All the money goes to the families of the bereaved. So by forcing Gi Hun to accept the win, he would ensure that his mom would get some money via Gi Hun. Gi Hun in contrast had no problem being selfless and letting the money go to the bereaved for both of them to leave alive together. It lines up with how he had to care about his dying coworker even if it meant not being able to be there for his daughter's birth. And how at the end, saving lives from the ongoing games was a choice he had to make if it meant not visiting his daughter. I'm not saying anything is right or wrong, but in the end Gi Hun and Sang Woo still had very different views. Gi Hun cares about all lives. Sang Woo only cares of his own, his family, and fuck everyone else. But it's a selfishness that is also a part of human nature. He reminded me of Shane from Walking Dead.

The thing about Sang Woo was that he had already made up his mind in episode 2 to end his own life. Obtaining the prize money was the last chance he had at redemption for his past and if he couldn't win in the end, he saw no point in living at all. That's also why he was the one with resolve to kill everyone he needed to in order to survive.
The hardest part abouit the ending with the old man was having to realize that, as nice and kind as he seemed, he was the most evil of them all. In my opinion, at least. The only redeeming note is that he put his life at risk in several of the games, and he didn't bet on or take any delight in the deaths of the other players, like the VIPs did.
I think Sang-Woo was not playing for him, but for his mother. I think the guilt of what he did to his mother, especially in the korean culture, weighed heavily on him. He probably knew if he won, he would still go to jail and foreign jails are much harsher than american jails. So, the least he could do now is just win the money for his mother to go on. Everyone was playing for a different reason. If anything, the bully was probably the only one playing purely out of greed. I think since the reason why In-Ho went back to the games and is the front-man is precisely because of what you said that there is no way to really function back in the real world after having spent every day for at least a week addicted to adrenaline in a literally life-or-death situation. So, all the players probably fall victim to a type of Stockholm syndrome where they now "need' the game to feel alive and return back due to some unhealthy attachment they developed to the games and their "tormentors". I have a feeling history is repeating itself and that In-Ho may have infiltrated the games like his brother did this time and somehow got sucked into it. For all we know, there may have been other cops who did the same thing in the past. I wonder if it could also be that just like Gi-Hun, In-Ho went back to the games to also stop it but something happened once he got there and In-Ho ended up becoming the frontman somehow. Either way, I feel perhaps there is no way for the winners to function in the real-world and one way or another, they all end up returning back to the games. Have you guys ever seen Train to Busan or Alice in Borderland on Netflix?
Three people weren't supposed to play Squid Game. They gave the remaining contestants a knife so they would kill one, and that's why they stopped Gi-hun from attacking Sang-woo.
They stopped him because the lights were up and the “night” was over, Squid game can be played by multiple players as was shown in the start of the show. It would just be one sided. At least two people could have survived since the files that Jun ho(the cop) went through showed more than one winner in each game.

The Frontman is not a bad person neither because he had been living the winner's guilt like Gihun for past 5 yrs before the 2020 Games. My guess is that he had not touched his prize money neither since he had been staying in the small claustrophobic rental room and those rental rooms are mostly horrible with very nasty tenants. He disappeared again right before the current Games which was what triggered the cop's story.

Sangwoo is actually the more rational one. I'm sure if Sae Byeok had survived to the next round with Gi-hun, she would've done the same thing as Sangwoo in the end so no one goes home empty-handed.
So many people mistake Sang-Woo as selfish when he clearly was only in it to help his mother (and possibly pay back the people he screwed over). Even if he won the money for himself, he'd literally go straight to prison and then nothing would matter.
Y'all forgetting that if you give up on the game all the families of the deceased get their sum of the money. That's exactly why Gi-hun was fine with it.
Gi-hun is the type of person who does what he thinks is right. He missed the birth of his daughter because he joined his coworkers on their strike, and felt helpless when one of them got killed, as shown in that flashback he had when keeping watch at night. He's believes in kindness that's why he was so nice to the old man even if it risks being disadvantaged in the games, he himself got saved by Ali's kindness in Game 1. Even at the very edge of victory he chose to quit so he and Sang Woo can leave together despite everything he has done. He only technically won because Sang Woo killed himself. It remains to be seen how far he can go in finding out about the organization in S2. It might even be up to Front Man to end the whole thing since his conscience is starting to creep up on him for killing his own brother. But Gi-hun would at least be the spark to start it all.
The fact that Sang-Woo killed himself instead of trying to kill Gi-Hun just shows that he was never in it for himself, it was always about helping his mother, and he knew Gi-Hun would do that if he won, which is why instead of giving up and saving his own life, he took it and made sure Gi-Hun got the money.
Sang Woo was actually my favorite character. Yes, he did some shady stuff, but he was really just trying to survive. I think a lot of people, if put in that situation, would do the same thing. I feel bad for Ali, but he should have at least looked inside the bag after Sang Woo gave it back to him. Sang Woo is the realest character in the show and I admit that I was really sad to see him die.
I highly doubt they'd go after his daughter considering they don't seem to be that kind of organization. They'd probably just kill Gi-Hun and be done with it.

If you guys liked the show, you might want to watch Train To Busan as well. It's a decent zombie film and since you guys watched Squid Game, now you will find a very familiar actor in there lol. The film is very good, you might want to try it.
He let him live because it was fun playing with him, and he could feel the joy just like he had in his childhood. The subtitles are wrong there, I don't know why they change the dialog like that.
Red can also signify anger which in Gi hun case he’s angry with the old man and the people who are willing to keep the games going and see nothing wrong with it. I think if there is a second season I think it will be about gi hun trying to bring down the game itself along with the continuation of the story with jun ho the young police officer but also the back story of his brother the front man.
Il-nam is actually the creator of the game, Il-nam actually translates to "First-Man" which is why the gaurds came in and stopped the violence when he said it was enough, you never saw him in a casket, there was multiple visible shadows when he died despite only being one gaurd, he also didnt appear in the player book.
actually i would be disappointed if season 2 would be just a big "revenge arc". This show tells so much more than cliché stories of good vs evil, it's truly about human nature. Here it is : 6 months of hard work only for the 2 first episodes. Quality has a price, and obviously we don't want quantity, we want quality.
Relax, for season 2 it's just gonna be a different main character going through his hell with the games, and Gi-yun and perhaps the cop(if he survived) will be secondary protagonist going through their revenge arc. You heard it here first folks.

Whenever I see people arguing that "everone would do the same thing", all I see is projection. We have real life data from situations where people have acted selflessly for others at great risk for themselves or situations where people chose not to take advantage of others for their gain. Just because you would kill other people and betray your friends to earn money doesn't mean everyone else would.

I honestly loved the twist and how morally grey they make the game when all the contestants came back knowing fully what they were getting into. (The first round remains inexcusable as they had no idea they could die) Gi-Hun...I wanted to strangle.

Suzy, the end has a lot of meanings. The guy who behaved like a villain destroying others to obtain the prize has one kind of redemption killing himself to give his friend the prize and ask him to help his mother. The creator of the game isn't totally wrong. The game wasn't only to gain money, you can think it was also about getting rid of some of the people who betray and sacrifice others to get what they want. They knew what will happen to them if they loose, and still decide to keep playing, so it's their fault.

It seems that the old man didn't expect to be picked for marbles. But once Gi-Hun picked him, that's when the old man gave him his jacket, probably as a way of saying he's the ONE to win and so that the guards don't take him out before he does. It's all theories though, which is expected with shows like this
My theory is, the old man had it all planned out. If he is picked by others, then let the dice (marbles) decide. Since his partner his GH, he plan was to let the dice decides. If he loses, well and good. If he is winning, he will pull the dementia facade to let GH wins.

One of the biggest clues that 001 was in on it when the contestants were fighting he was on the top of the beds and shouting “stop it I’m scared” and the guards immediately stopped the fights and restored order.
The vibe I'm getting is, it seems like Gihun wanted Sangwoo's mom to take care of Kang Cheol temporarily while he goes to the US. Seems like hes the one who will be Kang Cheol's guardian, I suppose we'll find out in season 2, if they are even making one
There were a lot of clues that Il-nam was behind of all it like when they were looking at players files they started it with 002, not 001 because his info are classified , also when Il-nam said to Gi-hun to put his jacket on with the numer 001 people and the others will respect him because they see 001 as their boss it was a freaking good show and i really hope a season 2 will air someday.

Them not showing us how he was killed in 1x06 plus many other hints, was evidence enough for me. I only was surprised they wrote "gganbu" on the card. "an old friend" would've been better. But the most important question: Are you wearing a Tag Heuer wristwatch?
Gi-Hun is just that. He's really not a selfish person. What sad is that, he may be righteous and selfless to care for 456 people and more in the next few years, he still didn't choose to go to his daughter. If he come back to the game, whether to play or to do infiltrate like the investigator did, he may die without reconciling with his daughter. But he can save hundreds of people.
This finale turned this series from something great to almost a masterpiece in my opinion. It was one of the most satisfying conclusions to a series/season I have seen! The cinematography, the music, the tension, the twists, and the shows themes were powerful.
My prayers were answered. A few videos ago I made a comment saying they have great on screen chemistry and I said I hope they’ll react to something else I like I thought it was highly unlikely considering I don’t watch anime or any of the other content on the channel but I love GOT and they’re starting it which makes me super happy

If you watch episode 2 again, (Hell) you can tell exactly how everyone is going to die. - Deok-Su jumped off the bridge. He was eliminated in the game by falling off the bridge. - Ali took the money from his boss. He was eliminated when someone took the marbles from him. - Sae-Byeok threatened someone with a knife to their throat. She was eliminated when someone stabbed her in the neck. - Sang-Woo tried to kill himself in episode 2. He was eliminated when he killed himself. - Gi-Hun swore on his mother's life. His mother died in the end.
The old man had a ton of hints on him being the main guy behind the games Red light green light had him not being visible on the scanner screen. He didn't have a really bright glow around him and therefore was safe. tug-of-war - in the scene where he was laying down after they won, he was the only one that didn't have padlocks on his wrist He poured water on himself and acted sickly because he knew he was the odd one out in the marble game and would have been safe. No #001 in the book when the detective looked. In a flashback scene where he put down the mask, his hands were old and wrinkled. Just a ton of attention to detail stuff ... Even though they had it, I didn't even see that final big twist coming since the show did it so well.
I believe that when he called them as he was boarding the plane, he would have continued on to the flight if they had not made him angry by still watching and telling him what to do. His rage then came out and he is now on a mission.

I have a feeling history is repeating itself and that In-Ho may have infiltrated the games like his brother did this time and somehow got sucked into it. For all we know, there may have been other cops who did the same thing in the past. I wonder if it could also be that just like Gi-Hun, In-Ho went back to the games to also stop it but something happened once he got there and In-Ho ended up becoming the frontman somehow. Either way, I feel perhaps there is no way for the winners to function in the real-world and one way or another, they all end up returning back to the games.

My guess is that he had not touched his prize money neither since he had been staying in the small claustrophobic rental room and those rental rooms are mostly horrible with very nasty tenants. Gi-hun is the type of person who does what he thinks is right. He missed the birth of his daughter because he joined his coworkers on their strike, and felt helpless when one of them got killed, as shown in that flashback he had when keeping watch at night. He's believes in kindness that's why he was so nice to the old man even if it risks being disadvantaged in the games, he himself got saved by Ali's kindness in Game 1. Even at the very edge of victory he chose to quit so he and Sang Woo can leave together despite everything he has done. He only technically won because Sang Woo killed himself.
It remains to be seen how far he can go in finding out about the organization in S2. It might even be up to Front Man to end the whole thing since his conscience is starting to creep up on him for killing his own brother. But Gi-hun would at least be the spark to start it all.
The fact that Sang-Woo killed himself instead of trying to kill Gi-Hun just shows that he was never in it for himself, it was always about helping his mother, and he knew Gi-Hun would do that if he won, which is why instead of giving up and saving his own life, he took it and made sure Gi-Hun got the money.
It was for his pride. His care for his mother is conjoined to that and was his better angel rising higher in his last moments.
Sang Woo was actually my favorite character. Yes, he did some shady stuff, but he was really just trying to survive. I think a lot of people, if put in that situation, would do the same thing. I feel bad for Ali, but he should have at least looked inside the bag after Sang Woo gave it back to him. Sang Woo is the realest character in the show and I admit that I was really sad to see him die.
If they are surveilling Gi-hun, he could potentially put his daughter in danger.
Of course they know and by their logic should do it. 1 episode, they said about his family, so they can find his wife and dauther as well easily.
I highly doubt they'd go after his daughter considering they don't seem to be that kind of organization. They'd probably just kill Gi-Hun and be done with it.

Red can also signify anger which in Gi hun case he’s angry with the old man and the people who are willing to keep the games going and see nothing wrong with it. I think if there is a second season I think it will be about gi hun trying to bring down the game itself along with the continuation of the story with jun ho the young police officer but also the back story of his brother the front man.

Il-nam is actually the creator of the game, Il-nam actually translates to "First-Man" which is why the gaurds came in and stopped the violence when he said it was enough, you never saw him in a casket, there was multiple visible shadows when he died despite only being one gaurd, he also didnt appear in the player book.
actually i would be disappointed if season 2 would be just a big "revenge arc". This show tells so much more than cliché stories of good vs evil, it's truly about human nature. Here it is : 6 months of hard work only for the 2 first episodes. Quality has a price, and obviously we don't want quantity, we want quality.
Relax, for season 2 it's just gonna be a different main character going through his hell with the games, and Gi-yun and perhaps the cop(if he survived) will be secondary protagonist going through their revenge arc. You heard it here first folks.

Whenever I see people arguing that "everone would do the same thing", all I see is projection. We have real life data from situations where people have acted selflessly for others at great risk for themselves or situations where people chose not to take advantage of others for their gain. Suzy, the end has a lot of meanings.
The guy who behaved like a villain destroying others to obtain the prize has one kind of redemption killing himself to give his friend the prize and ask him to help his mother.
The creator of the game isn't totally wrong. The game wasn't only to gain money, you can think it was also about getting rid of some of the people who betray and sacrifice others to get what they want.
They knew what will happen to them if they loose, and still decide to keep playing, so it's their fault.
What about all the people who died in the first game?
The creator is 95%+ wrong but justifies it with 'wellwhatareugonnado, let me have fun'. His last non-sociopathic days were early childhood.

According to the people behind the game, no one would've taken an old man for their team so his spot was already reserved but that spot went to that gangster's ex because gi huen decided to make Ill nam as his partner

It seems that the old man didn't expect to be picked for marbles. But once Gi-Hun picked him, that's when the old man gave him his jacket, probably as a way of saying he's the ONE to win and so that the guards don't take him out before he does. It's all theories though, which is expected with shows like this
My theory is, the old man had it all planned out. If he is picked by others, then let the dice (marbles) decide. Since his partner his GH, he plan was to let the dice decides. If he loses, well and good. If he is winning, he will pull the dementia facade to let GH wins.

One of the biggest clues that 001 was in on it when the contestants were fighting he was on the top of the beds and shouting “stop it I’m scared” and the guards immediately stopped the fights and restored order.

Season 2 said to be focused on The Front Man and supposed to be The Salesman.

Them not showing us how he was killed in 1x06 plus many other hints, was evidence enough for me. I only was surprised they wrote "gganbu" on the card. "an old friend" would've been better.

Them not showing him get killed didn't raise any alarms for me because they never showed Ali get killed
Gi-Hun is just that. He's really not a selfish person. What sad is that, he may be righteous and selfless to care for 456 people and more in the next few years, he still didn't choose to go to his daughter.
If he come back to the game, whether to play or to do infiltrate like the investigator did, he may die without reconciling with his daughter. But he can save hundreds of people.
I do hope he makes it out alive.
This finale turned this series from something great to almost a masterpiece in my opinion. It was one of the most satisfying conclusions to a series/season I have seen! The cinematography, the music, the tension, the twists, and the shows themes were powerful.
My prayers were answered. A few videos ago I made a comment saying they have great on screen chemistry and I said I hope they’ll react to something else I like I thought it was highly unlikely considering I don’t watch anime or any of the other content on the channel but I love GOT and they’re starting it which makes me super happy

The creators of this show did an amazing job of both hiding and revealing the depth of their attention to detail. Even though I suspected Player 1 of being the "man behind the curtain" halfway through the series, I CANNOT WAIT to see season 2 and place my "bets" all over again! :)

- Deok-Su jumped off the bridge. He was eliminated in the game by falling off the bridge.
- Ali took the money from his boss. He was eliminated when someone took the marbles from him.
- Sae-Byeok threatened someone with a knife to their throat. She was eliminated when someone stabbed her in the neck.
- Sang-Woo tried to kill himself in episode 2. He was eliminated when he killed himself.
- Gi-Hun swore on his mother's life. His mother died in the end.
He dyed his hair red because he is on a war path. He’s going after them now.
