1945s abandoned train restoration - Antique rusty locomotive

- Here is a new video !!
This is a model train produced by Fleischmann around 1944/45.
It's pretty rusted and the clockwork mechanism wasn't working .
Most of the parts are so thin that I couldn't do sandblasting... I decided to clean them using electrolytic pickling. It has removed the old painting and also the rust !!
Please watch till the end to see this antique locomotive in action !
By supporting the channel you help me make more of these video and find more amazing items.
I hope you'll enjoy this restoration.
Thanks a lot for watching !

This was great! Highlights for me are the fabrication of a new wheel and the "pickling" method to remove all of the old paint and rust. Given how damaged this toy was in the beginning, it is amazing that you managed to return it to like-new condition. Kudos!
Thank you so much William 🙏
Is pickling different than electrolysis?
@@Castleknight Nope it's the same process. The + becomes the - and the - becomes the + 😀

these restorations are really relaxing, but they might take a lot of hours. I appreciate the effort you put in making these videos.
🙌 Thank you for your comment ! Yes it requires a bit of patience 😌
this man just pulled a "this engine aint for scrap!"
*me to all steam locomotives*
Going full "Stepney Gets Lost" here.
He Pulled An Oliver
This man just pulled a “Saved from Scrap”
@@SodorTrain1225 is that a Thomas episode
“Made in US Zone, Germany.”
Damn, never expected to see something like that on a toy of any kind
A big step up from “Made in China”
I have a fleischmann live steam stationary plant toy with made in east germany on the bottom.
Made post ww2 in occupied Germany -probably 1946 when reconstruction started- (once i saw an old sewing machine that stated "Made in Occupied Japan")
Remember, after the war, Germany was divided into zones. The Russian zone became East Germany, and the three other zones, British, French, and American, became West Germany. Same thing with Berlin. So this was a wonderful thing to be made so soon after the end of the war.
Dates it nicely.
“Now I’m afraid the parts will never come.”
HOTR reference
@Lazys The Dank Engineer .....i dont get it...hang on ill do it my self WOOSH!
A new coat of paint with some new parts never hurt
I hope people stand well back away from the platform because that giant key will sweep everyone away.
😂👌🏻
lol
Lmao 😆
🤣
That's not the only thing this 1940's German train is sweeping away.
pretty nice.....its good that these old fashioned toys were put together simply with simple fasteners that can be disassembled non-destructively....rivets and harsh glues and epoxies weren't used during the zenith era of toy making
More train restorations please!
😅🙌 Give me time then yes ! Be sure I’ll do some more 👍🏻
@@TheFabrik old marklin digitalistation
@@model_building_fan7708 Next one will be Märklin, or JEP,.... or Hornby 🤔😓
@@TheFabrik like h0 scale?
@@model_building_fan7708 nope it’s gonna be O scale... 🤔
Once again you have painstakingly restored something that seemed beyond hope, too fragile to do. Very enjoyable to see. Thank you.
🙌 That was a tough work 😥 Very fragile as you said.... Thanks a lot for your comment and your support 🙏
Back before plastic toys took over the world they had led painted steel toys that lasted for generations.
And destroyed many gens too
Amd wooden toys don't forget
З
......that also gave them led poisoning
@@quattrobajeena1689 very rare occurrence
What a remarkable achievement, in the beginning I thought you were going to remake most of the parts and I actually thought, remake not restoration. I am impressed with the way you achieved your aim throughout this project. Very nice job thank you.
🙌 Thank you very much Bernie !! 🙏
Fixing an old scrap engine who breakdowned in a forest this is good!

Me: I’m going to enjoy it as much you can imagine.
😆👍🏻
These trains are the definition of scrapped
Hi again. 👋 I agree with a few commenters. You put in a lot of work including filming, editing and story telling, have a special patience and joy (it shows), but the result to us is an incredibly relaxing, mesmerizing treat to watch. It makes you forget all of your troubles for a moment. That's your additional gift to us. Thank you very much for it! 🤗💚
Thank you very much. Glad you enjoyed !!
Now that's what I call restoration.
“This engine’s not for scrapping!”
I look at this and wonder, “How many toy soldiers, wooden blocks, or other such items did this train “carry” throughout it’s lifetime? How many children held this toy like it was the best thing ever?” Restoring this is like restoring memories and artwork. Love these videos, I could watch them all day long! 😊🤗
Thank you !! Always touching to bring the memories back 🙌
Nobody:the guy from toy story cleaning woody be like:
This reminds me of the scene from toy story 2 where the guy is fixing woody
The locomotive is safe from scrap and will live on forever
Makes me so happy when wonderful olf vintage toys are brought back life.
The Matt black gives a nice look.
So is this what happened to Henry after the flying kipper accident
Again, as always, thank you for the entertainment! I really appreciate your attention to detail in the finishes and repairs of the toy motors! Another beautifully done restoration! The train station scenes are always delightful!
WOOOWW... !!
greetings from indonesia railfans
🙌🙏 Hello Indonesia 😀
@@TheFabrik hallo... nice to meet U :)
Thanks for sharing friend
The manufacturer would be proud.
💪 Thank you !
Now, take a moment to think of the manufacturing of this little train....all of the individual components. Most, if not all of it was hand made. That's quite a lot of work for a clockwork toy, and probably took quite a lot of time when you add up the time for each part. The time and care you spent on it was well worth it. Nicely done.
I like how its actually a thing that could of existed back then instead of one that has things that didn't exist back then
丁寧なだけでなく、玩具への愛を感じます。特にマスキングしたペンチなどの治具はその表れかと思います。
素晴らしいお仕事です。
どうもありがとうございます 🙏
Your doing again beautiful works of art
This restoration, and all the processes, are so cool! But, if I was you, I would add a bit more lining and use silver paint on the smokebox door's numbers. If only we could do this to old warship wrecks...
REALLY NICE MODEL!!

Looking at that engine it’s hard to believe what it looked like before. I love steam engines so watching you do this was wonderful. It was lovely to see how you dealt with the state of it and how you brought in back from the scrap heap. You are a true artist.
Thank you so much for these very kind words ☺️... quite motivating ✊🏻👍🏻

Most of these restorations are on toys, but the skills involved in what you do rival the skills of a master watchmaker. Awesome.

Love the "Made in the US zone" marking.
Cold war toys... Have few more recent HO models build beyond the iron curtain. Strangely good models, finely detailed, built to a high standard. Wonder who could have bought such things at the time, there...
Very impressive work by the way. Just perfect job.
Great job
Man that was fantastic, absolutely beautiful, really enjoyed this. I am from USA😊
A master-class in restoration. MInd you, the model was very well made in the first place. Germans were, and probably still are, the worlds best toy makers. Bravo!
Thank you very much 🙌 German quality...👌🏻

Lovely resto. My friend gave me a Fleishman 00 gauge train in the 1970s, still in its plastic box.My mum took it to a toytrain specialist, and it's tiny lights came on. I don't know what it's worth.
Thank you 🙏 It depends on which model it is... Well if it works fine in its original box...
Bravo, great Master - Like!!!!👍👍👍👈

I wish get this train into my collection.
The absolute power being able to dismantle something ancient, reverse time's effect on it, and then reassemble it like it's nothing is too much power for one mortal being to hold
This whole process, from start to finish, is beautiful.

Another great restoration. I love watching your newer videos because they're a much needed break from my tool world.
We have come a very long way with model trains, but it is nice to see there is still a place in our heart for things of the past. Lovely video, thanks for sharing.
My pleasure 🙂 Glad you enjoyed. Thank you 🙌🙏
I'd love for someone to get a bunch if these restored battery powered or clockwork toys, let kids play with them, and see if they think they're actually new modern toys rather than toys their great (and some cases great great) grandparents played with!
I can tell you my children love to play with these clockwork toys ! Thanks for watching and commenting 🙌
