Sometimes I think that there is very little sadder than an abandoned toy; something that made a child happy many years ago, and is now aged and lost, played with by no one. You do good work.
To remedy some of the rough running, I reccomend setting one side of the driving wheels at 90 degrees to the other side. This is called "quartering" and it balances out the weight in the wheel
Watching you bring old dead toys , Back to life ,is a joy , been lot's of grief in my life lately , sounds strange , been healing , thank you and blessings on you
Christmas 1930 (or something) Boxing Day, a child, perhaps waiting for years on end for his most wanted present. A steam locomotive and his favourite too! He’s playing with it in front of the fire place day after day, weeks, months but slowly but surely the little train moved from the boys room to the attic where it waited to make place for other forgotten toys and moved to a Misty and water leaking shed were it’s rest till it was found again and restored in it’s old sheen colours and it runs till it’s spring runs to an end and it was put in a closet were everybody could enjoy it’s beauty. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but my youth came along with this video 🥲 how can I thank you for sharing this beautiful video with me 👍👍❤️
Don't see how you can remember where all the parts goes so you can put it back together again! Good Job. So much attention to detail and time. Makes me so happy to see restorations on things from long ago. Be nice if more people cared.
Saved from the dustbin of historical toys. You have achieved a remarkable restoration of this toy loco and your engineering skills are to be congratulated on especially the wheel remover tool. These large tin plate locos remind me of my childhood and it certainly bought back some happy memories. Job well done.
That tools to remove wheels was something! I think that with a little bit of body filler the result would have been perfect. But still it's an impressive job! 👍
I kinda like the damage that’s still their, gives it a more authentic and old style look to it. To me it looks more realistic like that then it would, if it was perfectly restored.
My very favourite part of restoration videos is watching replacement parts be created from scratch. This video not only had that, but even the fabrication of a tool to remove the wheels! Thank-you, I enjoyed this very much. 👏
Another fabulous job. These videos are totally mesmerizing. The dry humor inserted here & there is nice, also (never overly done). For example, popping the packing air bubbles at the beginning 0:33. Who among us did not want to reach into the video and do that. 😆
The tiny workers are very impressed with your effort. Their body language shows they have great respect and reverence for the new life of the engine and tender.
This restoration made me so happy to watch. The attention to detail and keeping it original down to the color is awesome and is missing in a lot of the other channels who do this. Great job.
Hello, darling. We are your new big fans - me and my 3 yrs old boy. We are from a family of technologists and we are so happy to watch you work!!! Keeping fingers crossed in each video and highly excited when the work is done and everything works how it was meant. You should rename your brand as a RESCUER OF ABANDONED AND LOST. :-)
Hey Monika thank you very much for your support. So gratifying to know that kids watch my vids too !!! I also have two boys so it means a lot. Thank you 🙏
First of all: thank you for your videos! There are many reasons why I appreciate them. In random order: great workmanship, relaxed atmosphere without shock effects so typical of our days, great recording, the work soundscapes and the music you have chosen, just the love of old toys, the joy of doing something by yourself and not once more buying more things. I wish there was at least somebody alive who have actually made these toys decades ago. He/she should absolutely see your videos!
Hats off to you for getting the train back to its almost original state! I own models trains that are not toys. Also, thanks for keeping the music down to a minimum, just to the end. Du bist toll!
You know the thing is old when you can remove the rivets by bare hands (or gloved hands in this case) What I thought to be the pitting was the coal stack carved onto the piece...wow. Making a tool just to remove things from a particular toy, with painting and all....shows dedication. Loved the video.
Your talent for restoring these old toys, trains especially, is quite amazing. The tool you came up with to get the wheels off was very interesting. I like to restore things too but I wouldn't know how to tackle something like that. My restorations are of a more simple nature. But I'm getting some ideas from watching you that may help what I do. The engine and tender turned out beautifully.
Wow- Oh my god- I am in SHOCK! Right before my eyes you turn this rusty piece of junk into a shiny train! I am sharing this with my friends. This is AMAZING!!
Outstanding video, I work on 1940s and 50s model trains and have a few of the old ones. But I like to gut the windup which is usually broken, restore the sheet metal then adapt a 50s electric motor chassis so i can run it on my layout. I one cast metal body that must weight 2 or 3 pounds. Excellent video and technique, you are an artist is the restoration process. Thank You so much for sharing. Dennis in Virginia
I bow respectfully to your expertise and skill. Most of all, you can place dozens of pieces without forgetting, I think that's the summit.😅. If it were me, I'd struggle for months. Congratulations. you are amazing
That was worth it ! Thanx for the fun, man ! I did one too . It was garbage...now it's in my display cabinet ! It took me weeks to finish it at work ... Now, it's beautiful !

it's a streamliner, based on real streamlined trains from the art-deco era. If you google it you can find where to see one IRL. As in, a train in this style, not this exact one.

You popped out of nowhere mate ! Watched 3 in a row ,and love what your doing , plus as a frenchman thankyou for restoring this fine locomotive , looking forward to further videos 😊😊😊😊
Great job with the restoration. There are tools and techniques to re-quarter the drive wheels so it doesn't jump around so much running. It is fiddly work to get perfect.
Fascinating... Reminds me of what my grandfather used to say to me all the time. He said, "For almost every job I do, I have to make a tool to do it with."
Great job sir. It was good that you had that tiny Rail Road Architect and his helper on hand to tell you that you would need a special tool to remove the wheels.
There's no way it could have been electric since the clockwork drive is present. The lamp socket is probably used to have a bulb under the chimney to heat oil to produce smoke. This model probably takes inspiration from the streamlined engines from PLM, wich were put under SNCF ownership after the war (SNCF dates from 1937). These were the only streamlined locos in France as far as I know. And these were (and the whole train) painted... blue! (Fantastic work by the way)
Hi Damien thanks a lot for watching and commenting. I thought it may have had an electric motor before. Wow I would have like to have that smoke system 😳 Thanks for all these infos.. again😉
It's probably been said before, but the only flaw in an otherwise perfect restoration is with the front driving wheels. They are out of quarter. If it were adjusted, the locomotive would run more smoothly around the track. I was very impressed with the wheel pulling gadget you manufactured, and with your ability to fashion new small parts. Very impressive.

The train seems almost joyous scuttling along the tracks at the end; you did a brilliant job breathing life back into this beautiful little toy!
