Budapest is the most expensive place in Hungary. Buying or renting property is crazy there, compared to any other cities. If anyone wants to live in Hungary and it is feasible to move around a bit, I would suggest to spend some time in Győr, Pécs, Debrecen, Szeged, or basically any other place than Budapest.

I also didn't wanna click on this yesterday when I saw it, because I assumed (quite correctly I might add), that it's gonna be just another rich American living off of privilege and not the actual data. So here's the actual data according to OECD (data from 2022): - The average Hungarian salary adjusted for PPP (Purchase Power Parity, which is the only metric that you'll ever need, as it measure the parity of the income in accordance to the burdens aka the costs) is $28.5k (annual) This number in Austria is: $63.8k And Finland: $51.8k These aren't nominal values these would be your net salaries in these countries in accordance with taxation, price fluctuations, real value, and inflation. So yeah, these are not the numbers you would have on your cheques, but the actual worth. On an other note: Hungary has both elitism and nepotism, which also skews the data, as it includes those of the political and economical oligarchy, that gets their money through corruption, and own an insane absolute majority of the country's resources, and production. PS; driving up the prices, decreases the average PPP, as the burdens (costs) get bigger. Linguistic sidenote: nobody really learns Hungarian in Budapest as an immigrant if they know English, because you can get away with English in Budapest almost without any hurdle. $560 for that apartment is a crazy good deal. I have apartments around that area where she lives (albeit a bit bigger ones) and the average I can rent them out is $700. Food prices are also way higher if you want to eat healthy, more like around $200 a week, but also depends on what you like to eat. I eat steak two times a week at least, and the price of that is like 8 or 9 times higher than chicken. For a kilo of chicken breast you pay 2000 HUF ($5), whereas a tomahawk steak could cost you 18-19.000 HUF which is around $50 (6% of an average sallary to put it into proportions). The price of a kilo of salmon is also way higher proportionately than in the US. Budapest is not as cheap as foreigners might think, both rent and food prices are high. If your aim is to save money, try the countryside or other big cities like Sopron, Debrecen, Szeged.

She is brave and doing very well. I am American and retired with my Hungarian born husband and we live in Budapest. We make no where close to what she does each month but we also pay zero rent. Paid cash 15 years ago for our flat and live a simple life here.Going out often drinking and eating out costs allot here.
These costs in the video are extremely high. It is a very high standard of living. One can live from much less in Budapest. Budapest is not like the Hungarian mafia government, it is a very positional city. A western European city in a Eastern European country which is governed by a mafia.

If you live alone and in the countryside, you need at least 400k-500k (~$1130-$1400) for a meager living. Hungary has a very "cheap" currency (353 Huf is a dollar at the moment i write this), salaries are below average which attracts a lot of international businesses, good for investors etc. While Hungary has its own currency they can have their own monetary policies, all in all it helps grow the economy. When its strong enough they can just join the euro zone and have their salaries be bringed up to the european average. If you work in a job that requires some higher education (not bogus like liberal arts or useless things like that) or is a shortage profession (like welders) then you will make a pretty good living.

In Budapest, ~2,500-3,000usd is very good money, life here is much cheaper than in Finland, for example. you can live comfortably on 1,500-2,000usd a month, but even less...
Because after this video everybody thinks Hungary is a extremely good place, here is the truth: - the real average salary is $964 (median in 2024) - there is no healthcare system - after a lifetime of work, there is no pension - suspended parliament since 11.03.2020. - there is no real public transport ( in the entire state) - the highest taxes in the western world (for the poor people) - the lowest taxes in the western world (for companies and for richer people) - the government working with mafia methods etc. etc. etc.

A lot of renters will hike their prices up for foreigners living and studying here too because those prices are still considered cheaper for them.

I don’t know what she is doing but 30k/year is a top 5% salary in Hungary it’s after taxes. If before taxes then top 20-25%!
