  • Showing how I upgraded the brakes on my 1999 Toyota 4Runner to the rotors and calipers from a 2005 Tundra.
    This is the launch of the Kuffel Creek Craftsman series of videos; many of you may not know that Kuffel Creek has been teaching craftsman ship many years prior to the apple nursery, and we publish what we consider the best plans in the world for several models of teardrop trailers. We'll be adding other videos featuring the craftsmanship of Kevin Hauser in the future.
    Parts used:
    -Front Brake Calipers and Rotors + Pads For 2001 2002 2003 - 2006 Sequoia Tundra listed on Ebay by brake_overstock
    -Toyota 1.25" Thick Wheel Spacers from spidertrax.com
    Disclaimer; brake pulsing may also be caused by an imprint of brake pad material or uneven brake pad material on the rotors, but the cause and affect is the same as on a warped rotor; excessive heat resulting in pulsing brakes, very noticeable just before you come to a complete stop.

    Thanks for posting this. You had a lot of practical tips for the DIY people.
    Here's a tip I'll share--
    No need to jack the truck up so high. Use a second jack or two-- compact bottle jack takes up less space-- and compress the lower control arm as you raise the truck by the frame. This way, you don't need to compensate for the spring travel by jacking it up so high. Just keep tension on the lower control arm during the whole process.

    Great to see this upgrade well explained in thorough detail!... Except you said you bled the passenger right front (twice lol), as we knew you meant drivers side front...
    Is this a sufficient upgrade for 2015 gen 4 Runner as well? Because we were going to order the #S6278 Power Stop red powder coated Calipers. If so we will hold off and just order the Tundra Calipers
    TUNDRA YEAR AND PART NUMBER # for the CALIPERS???

      They're doing great. No change whatsoever in handling from the spacers, no pulsing, stops fine. Soft pedal went away as the pads wore in.

    This is the 13wl caliper upgrade kit (231mm) which requires the cutting and spacers. The 13we caliper upgrade (199mm) doesn't require cutting or spacers. Just an fyi, please correct me if I'm wrong.

    • @SteveLyons57
      @SteveLyons57 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      what I’ve been reading is the 13we was the recalled caliper on the Tundra and the 13wl is the replacement. Using the bigger caliper, 13wl imo is the way to go.
      The pace of the video was perfect for my tastes. The music reminded me of an old Car video game. Lol.

    Did you, need shorter bolts for the calipers? the wall of mine are shorter on the tundra brakes than the 4runner, so the bolts to connect them won't go all the way in, they show maybe 1/8-1/16th of thread left.

    wheel spacers are hard on the wheel bearings ,, most knowlegable people would never use them ,, also , your torque specs for the calipers are wrong ,, before making a vid like this , you should get the facts right !!!!
