    Couple of suggestions
    Popsicle sticks - glue two together or get the paint sticks for a 5 gallon bucket. They’re thicker and would allow you to put more pressure.
    Water - spray the wheel with a mister so it’s just like wet sanding.

    I did this very process with my '92 Ranger Outlaw wheels a couple of years ago. They were clear coated from factory and the Indiana salt had corroded them pretty bad. Much easier and faster way of polishing them...Good Job!

    I've done that with brake rotors and a d/a sander to smooth them out before installing new brake pads, but I didn't think of doing it for the wheels. I'll be using this technique real soon

    Next time you go to polish like this you should go to a paint store and get a handful of the mixing/stir sticks! I use them all the time for sanding in tight areas that I can't get my lunchbox hands into!

    I love your videos. I wonder if you could do similar with a Dremel type tool. Would it get in far enough or be like your knuckle. My wife and I painted are CRV. Not as nice as your pink one but better than it did look. Thanks for the inspiration.

      Yes, I've done it with dremels. There's so many different types of heads you can put on I think it's more practical and obviously a lot safer.

      ashley dye the engine is trashed. Broken rod I already went to do it and saw the piston wasn’t moving on cylinder 1. The engine needs replaced

    That popcycle idea was good. Try 1" X 1/4" flat steel stock from Lowes. You could shape it with a belt sander. Use srink wrap for the handle and you would have permanent tool that would deliver the pressure you need.

    Lol crazy but cool! Another tip would be to go up through the gears feathering the clutch and you have the same rotation on idle in 5th than revving in low gear ;p

    FYI:
    Unless the paint or clear coat being used is expressly made for Aluminum surfaces, you are supposed to apply an activator first to the aluminum.
    This is one crazy way to polish aluminum. Once the paint is removed, I always use a high speed drill with cotton polishing wheels with varying grit compounding solutions until I reach the level of shine / surface I want. But if it works for you...

    Use paint stripper first, let it set for a while then pressure clean it off. I love your technique but as a finisher. Good video, mate.

    Wet or dry sandpaper go for longer wet, won't clog as fast as doing it dry but the water would have been messy af

    great idea but 1 wrong move and would be worst idea lol BUT fyi you really ought to be wearing a dust mask as the fine particles of aluminum in your lungs is worse than paint fumes, also I'd be using either paint sticks or plastic putty knifes, also if you wish to get a chrome finish invest in Busch aluminum polish

    creative idea bud. next time rig up a jig with clamps or something similar pinned to the ground and then gradularly move the sticks in with the sandpaper using that and not your hands - think of how a lathe works with the headstock ; rig something up similar dude for the sanding. safer that way mate, you only get one set of fingers etc. still love your work though

      mainecrab They were all aluminum when we first got them and I painted them white and wanted to do the lip polished and now it’s achieved. It was in a controlled environment. Solid jack stands, fingers out of the spokes and someone inside keeping the throttle monitored and ready to kill the ignition and hit brakes if it falls. But it’s all good no risk no reward

    Another thought...if you're going to take off all the old paint, why don't you use paint remover first? Spray it or paint it on. wait 10 minutes and pressure wash the old paint off.
    This way you don't waste sandpaper on the paint, only metal.

    You need to start with 36 grit an slower rpm while applying more pressure

      Garage life 80 grit did a lot better and 36 grit is way too rough. It worked fine the way I did it. You can do it with 36 grit though 😎

      Great job. Have done several motorcycle rims that way. More aggressive grit, more pressure an less rpm. Use a harbor freight corded da for the lip

    It would have been faster to tape off where you wanted to protect the paint/rubber and just spray aircraft stripper on the painted area you wanted bare metal, rinsed it off, and polished it.

      Cars are designed to reach their operating temperature and then kick on the radiator fan to pull air through the radiator. This allows cars to sit and idle without needing to move.
