@@vanishingpoint808The short answer to that is: depends on the bolts. Although titanium offers a superior strength to weight ratio when compared to steel, titanium isn't necessarily stronger than steel. So unless you are very sure of the specs of the bolts you're taking out, I wouldn't risk it and just renew them as BBS requires. Be it steel or titanium, metal fatigue happens to any metal that's exposed to repeated stresses.
They were just normal wheels back in the days. You have no Idea for what germans used them 😅 My grandfather put his garden hose around it... Some used them as flower potts
Kudos for the effort, they look awesome. Did this sort of project on a couple sets of rims, I would consider applying clear lacquer after mirror polishing the bead. It was a pain to maintain if kept raw.👍
For broken bolts don't use power tools get leverage bar etc or hammer and punch chisel combo get it moving once cut fiat heat is essential fuck penetrating fluids they do nothing quick 👌🫡 great vid love the shot blaster plenty powerful 😅💪
1:34 for situations like the broken bolt you may give a *manual* impact driver a try. Like KS Tools 515.1003 (it's just the first one I happened to google)
fantastic work. What impressed me most was that you used every part in its original condition and didn't buy anything new. This is therefore absolutely original. mega. This is a true restoration and not using new items
The basic process followed here is almost the same as when the wheel is created new. (Providing the wheel has passed crack testing, I think it should be considered as good as new). Nice music.
Would it be a good idea to clear coat the barrel? mine got restored a few years ago but it's been hard to maintain the rims, they are now black almost.
Your work looks amazing. The only thing i worry about is the heat used for getting the bolt out. Does the barrel have any sort of heat treatment or rotary forging process from the factory? Heat might change the crystalline structure of the metal and make it softer/malleable
Exaclty what I was going to comment, that wheel is most likely weakened significantly after such intense local heat application, and stress cracks may develop over time around the edges of the heated area. The proper way would be to put it in an oven and heat cycle it uniformly after the bolt was out. Aside from that, very clean result!
My AMG wheels are going for a new finish next week. Both bumpers, rocker panels, wheels, a couple of paintless dent removals, and touch-up for the major panels. I try and keep as much original paint as possible.
The barrels are one piece, so unless of a crack, yes they will hold air even without the center bolted in. The only question I had was the texture of the tire bead seating surface not allowing it to seal very well.
Look great 😁I have the same mag and i planned to restor it but i dont have a sunblast or rust gun remover and paint gun so this is possible to do it without all this with just some sandpaper, chimical product, good sray cane skills? I know that would be long but my friend told me a restoration like that is almost the price of the mag so do u have any tips to do it on a budjet ? 🤔
when I restored some badly worn aluminum wheels I only spent $140 on sandpaper, aluminum polish, and a polish applicator. It takes a boat load of time to do but its worth it in the savings you get compared to having a professional restore ur wheels
Sandblasting without gloves... You are sick madman. Beautiful job
Thats some janky ass sandblasting styles, love it haha.
It doesn't hurt too bad as long as the pressure isn't too high and you're not pointing directly at your hands xD
Bolts should constantly be renewed!!! That is a must for the company BBS!
Even with titanium bolts?

9/10 shops wouldn't even dissemble let alone clean up each bolt. Really thorough job and very refreshing to see 👌
Neither would I disassemble the rims. Chances are high, shearing these screws off. Those are made of Titanium.
Masking them and happy it is.
1500-2000k in a shop..
shops didt remove old balancer glues anymore people just go after green paper
Now THIS is a proper wheel restoration. Well done!
Thanks 🙏
...famous last words - 63 MORE! GREAT job!!!
I've always had BBS and MOMO close to my heart. Great job.
Thanks🙏
Really glad i found this video! I just bought a set for $100! Gonna restore them and install them on my FR-S!
Gorgeous job. Would love to see how you deal with deeply scratched/scraped wheels.
I think this is the sweet spot for the channel. I need more of this.
WOW!!!! they look brand new, amazing work
When an bolt is broken, we decide to weld an nut on it. Its the best and easiest way to replace it.
greetings, and nice video :)
Amazing job! I can't believe how people destroy quality BBS wheels like that :(
Thanks🙏
They were just normal wheels back in the days. You have no Idea for what germans used them 😅 My grandfather put his garden hose around it... Some used them as flower potts
They weren't "destroyed" the cerakote thats put on them from the factory is garbage.
The blasting part looks strangely satisfying
Great work. I’m impressed I can’t lie.. Looks brand new! Awesome job :).

Thats some labour intensive job! well done.
Thanks 🙏
Hyper Professional. I would put new bolts instead of used ones, but seems fine after all. Excellent!
Thanks 🙏
If they are titanium, witch i believe they are it would be expensive
Incredible. Congrats!
Thanks!
A lot of hard work and looks good as new!
Thanks 🙏
Beautiful result and excellent careful process. How many hours of sanding and polishing were involved?
Thanks! Around 1-2 hours for 1 lip
Wish there was a shop like yours close to me

Top job those wheels looks magnificent 👏👏👏👏😍😍😍😍
Those look like BBS RX2’s, using gold hardware would’ve made it “pop” but either way I loved every part of the video. Outcome is stunning.

The bolt sparks are strange, titanium? Superb job my friend👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks 🙏! Yes, titanium
Interesting video. Was wondering if having a motorised turntable in sandblaster might save you time?
A bit, i guess)))
So crazy! 🔥
Superbe travail et résultat ! 👏

Around $250-300 locally

Отличная работа. Приятно смотреть. Если не секрет чем полировали и после шлифовки каким зерном?
Спасибо! Поліровка в 2 пасти после 800 наждака
Tell me please, how many Newtons per meter do you pull the bolts?
Usually 25-28nm
@@makukhawheels4674 thank you
Amazing! Good job!
Thanks 🙏
Looks good..
Looks brand new! Awesome job :)
Thanks 🙏
That looks so good! How are they holding up? I wonder if the bolts would start to rust, now that they have been stripped of everything.
I believe the bolts are stainless steel.
There actually titanium
Amazing restoration! Do you know the torque spec for the bolts mounting the face to the barrel?
Thanks 🙏 25-28nm
Increíble trabajo saludos desde Veracruz mx
Excellent job😊
🤘🏼Rock!!!🔥🔥🔥
Bro great work👍
Thanks 🙏
Nice work
Thanks 🙏
Yes. But, will they hold air? 😉
Nice to see ‘em get another shot - very well done.
