Toyota Yaris 6 Speed Swap Tutorial

  • This video is a compilation of all of the steps we took to perform a successful C60 6-speed swap into a Toyota Yaris. You will need the proper tools to disassemble Toyota Transmissions since this swap requires transferring the C60 parts into the C50 bell-housing. Our C60 was from a 2003 Toyota Celica GTS with unknown mileage. Upon disassembly, we found the #2,3,4 synchronizers were damaged and had to replace them. Other than that the transmission was in great shape and the close ratios feel amazing. The C60 does require the 20 Spline axles from a Scion xD, but the mounts, shifter cables, and linkage from the Yaris work with this swap. I used a Toyota 86 shift knob to depict the correct shift pattern for the C60. Good luck!

      That C50 was great, not bad at all for a free transmission with some Cusco and Scion magic inside!

    Excellent write-up I just had two questions one if the C60 case is almost identical to the C50 case why couldn't you just use the C60 mounts from say a Celica GTS what is the purpose of swapping the internals into the C50 case just for ease of mounting and also my question was what was the purpose of cutting the frame and pushing it back and inch & welding it? do you just need clearance for something on the transmission case or is it something else? thank you very much I have a 07 Yaris and I would love to do the swap

    • @ArmstrongRacing
      @ArmstrongRacing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I cant use the C60 mounts because they are designed to be fitted to a Celica, Corolla, or Matrix....not a Yaris. You need to use the C50 case to retain the proper shift lever orientation. I had to cut the frame because the C60 is longer and doesn't fit without making more room.

    • @TaylorMadejdm1975

      Armstrong Racing ok excellent, thanks a million. . So the yaris ecu is retained? , no need for any special ecu for the Trans.? Thanks Armstrong!

    Hi, I really want a 6 speed in my 2zr swap Yaris. Exactly like this, though I would prefer the gearing of the 6 spd corolla to the Celica 6spd. Do you know if you can do this just as easy with the newer 6 spd corolla bits?

    • @ArmstrongRacing
      @ArmstrongRacing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You might be able to get the 14+ corolla 6speed to fit, but I’m unsure on the mounts

    • @saitamahitjelyman898
      @saitamahitjelyman898 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Armstrong Racing I cant find much on the newer corolla gearbox. If it has the same final ratio as the c60 I’ll be happy as I want it to be good for highway cruising too as it’ll be dailied, and like that the parts would be easier to come by

    • @ArmstrongRacing

      The newer transmissions are E-series, there hasnt been any videos on them yet.

    • @ArmstrongRacing
      @ArmstrongRacing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, to start you need to buy a C60 transmission! Then take it apart and swap the bell housing. Next cut the left frame rail, then buy new Scion xD axles. Thats it!

  • @tsd560ti6
    @tsd560ti6 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Is the axle spacing and diameter the same on all C50 and C60 series transmissions?
    I am thinking about changing just the fifth gear on my 2007 Yaris TS (2ZR-FE). It comes stock with a 0.81 along with a 4.31 final drive.
    I would like to improve highway fuel economy with a .70 gearset from a 2011+ 1.33 6-speed.
    Alternatively, there is a .72 gearset from the 2006 1.4Diesel.

    • @ArmstrongRacing
      @ArmstrongRacing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure I understand your question about the axles, axle splines and lengths can differ based on chassis. You can use the other 5th gear sets, but you need to match the syncronizer and shift hub

    • @tsd560ti6
      @tsd560ti6 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArmstrongRacing Thanks for your reply!
      I referred to minute 4:00, where you mounted the 2 shafts. If I got it right, no further changes are needed for the gears to mesh correctly?
      But still, there could be problems with the wrong number/shape of grooves on the synchro and shift mechanism. - If I understood correctly?

    • @ArmstrongRacing
      @ArmstrongRacing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several spacers and the shafts need to be assembled correctly with all matching gear ratios.

    So do I have clear that a c60 from a 2zzge will bolt on to a 1nzfe and a c50 will bolt on to a 2zzge?
    I will attempt to do a 2zz swap on a xA, might do engine first only or trans as well just depends.

    • @ArmstrongRacing
      @ArmstrongRacing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      C60 and 1NZ have different bell housings, that's why you need to swap C60 internals to the C50 case.

    • @AguilaJR
      @AguilaJR 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ArmstrongRacing Makes sense.
      So for a 2zz swap, it'd basically require to use c60 since it would make no sense to transfer the 5 speed internals of c50 to c60 case?!
