    "knew him well enough not to mourn his passing". Sounds like Armand is glad Lestat is dead, but what he actually means is there's no way in Hell Lestat is dead.

    It is supposed to be humorous, but also jarring. The disregard for life that Lestat has, that he can dance with a corpse, and chastise for killing in one's home. It's humorous and dark. A dark humor as one might say.

    Note: In the books, it's Louis' brother who died. They gave Louis a wife and child in this movie because it was the 90s and they had to inject the film with some "not gay".

    • @serralinda73
      @serralinda73 3 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +2

      There is no "gay" in the books either because the vampires don't have sex drives - they fall in love with whoever, regardless of sex, because that ceases to be a factor for them. The whole side plot with Louis's brother is much too complicated for a two hours movie - changing it to a dead wife/child simplified everything and needed no long explanations. The Crying Game (2/19/93 - Steephen Rea starring - he's Santiago here) and Philidelphia (1/14/94 with Tom Hanks and Denzel Washinton) proved "gayness" or "queer themes" or whatever was not a problem in any artsy film being made at the time. Maybe for what they were hoping would be a big blockbuster type movie, but this - they could have made it more "gay" if they wanted to. That is not the point of the story though. We all can see that these are two "male" vampires making a family.

    • @MavenCree
      @MavenCree ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@serralinda73 I'm not talking about what's in the book. What I meant was that the story had already been unofficially known as 'gay' and the producers wanted to nix any hint of that in the film. The film is very intimate. They didn't want to take the chance of being branded. (And gay doesn't always have to involve sex. It doesn't matter that they didn't have sex in the books. They were a couple. A completely FUBAR couple, but a still a couple.)

    If you'd read the books you'd know that Tom Cruise played Lestat perfectly! I'm talking chefs kiss! He's over the top in the books and I love his story and character development throughout the series! He's the anti-hero. You get so mad at him; feel so sorry for him; wish he'd knock it off and hope he'll turn up and somehow get the characters out of the mess they're in. Then you worry you're gonna lose the flamboyant brat you realize you've come to love! He's a complicated character and he's actually in a lot of emotional pain. I love the books and this movie did a really good job. Especially Tom Cruise as Lestat!

    Lestat, in the novels is called "The Brat Prince" by the collective of other Vampires around the world,
    If you listen to the audio books, you'll notice that Anne Rice's writing style is rather poetic and quite beautiful really.
    The Vampire Lestat book is the entire backstory of Lestat and some of the other characters we meet in other books, the t.v show is somewhat more accurate to the books, kinda, but the ACTING in the t.v series is AMAZING

    The humor is dark, but it helps to balance out the absolute tragedy and their disrespect of life. It's almost outrageous in how silly it seems, but this is a neat perspective on how an immortal blood-drinker might view the world... like a playground. And it feels so creepy and inhuman, which is perfect. The directors and writers did a clever job in interpreting the books. Where it goes over the top, it then brings us way back down to earth in the moments of despair.

      @heavycritic9554 I didn't say there was historically accurate vampire lore. That's why I said it's constantly changing in media. I'm just saying Twilight isn't the frame of reference I would use to understand how vampires work. Compared to most vampire media, Twilight changed the way vampires work way too much, and they're almost their own thing. Like yes, Twilight has immortal children, but why would that be the same for Interview with a Vampire? Oak just assumes it is.
