@@MarcoMeatball You were right in a way about the quote 'being one witth the universe'. Bard is so oddly charming. And definitely has one of the 'weirdest' themes, next to Bel'veth. They even did a whole dev post on composing Bel'veth, in case you were curious
Bard's "voice" lines are also great - he's one of the few champions that doesn't speak at all, instead communicating in chimes and some blown instrument. Which somehow makes a lot of sense for a being that is older than creation and only has a physical form because it pilfered some clothing from a random passer-by. Oh, and I also can't wait for Kled - it's going to be a hilarious change of pace.
His visual design is great. He's entirely made of scraps of cloth and instruments. You mentioned princess mononoke, I could totally see bard being a yokai, a tsukumogami specifically.
Another interesting thing to note is that the instrument he uses and the sound it makes loosely resembles a didgeridoo which are heavily associated with meditation and rituals practices. The great of giving off the vibe of a vast a novel beyond yet also feeling gentle as if you’re drifting through the cosmos
Bard's theme and cinematic is def. a "less is more" type deal for me, just something about him is so otherwordly and grand, i can't wrap my head around it really great video as always!

Bard is such an interesting and daring character concept, from back when riot did try out more unconventional stuff. He doesn't speak in game but rather makes sounds, go look up his voice lines or even better, look at his gameplay, it's so unique :D
Bard has to be one of the most interesting characters of league. Not only in lore and music, because his 4th ability isn't good for any team per se, but highly depends on how he decides to use it. (It's a short time freeze in an area)
Bard is essentially taking away dangerous objects like scissors from the baby that is Runeterra lmao It's been years since I heard Bard's theme, but because they use the same music (specifically the first like...I wanna say 5--10 seconds) of his theme as the sound that plays when you start gliding around the map collecting meeps, I now think this is one of the only champion themes where the character in question is the one 'singing' the song to you, and that's adorable. It's like Bard's sharing the music of the cosmos as he hears it.
A thing i love about Bard's song is the challenge that it sure had been to compose. What our monkey brains think when we think about the cosmos and how do we represent it is a topic i'm never tired of BTW Bard is completly inspired in Studio Ghibli's aesthetic and themes, from Totoro and Mononoke mainly
Bard is definitely one of the hardest ones to guess by music alone. When I listened to it the first time, it kind of felt "alien" esc in a way and I guess that's kind of true to an extent.
Doom's "Flesh and Metal" is another great example of a song with basically no melody but that does it masterfully. (Edit: There is a little bit, but not much.)
Another aspect of Bard that's interesting is that it has no voice, it's way of communicating is through the little sounds it makes, which is also very telling of his concept. While Kindred about the conceptual 'humanization' of death, which is a very 'being' thing, Bard is the pure conceptualization of the cosmos and a primordial force of the universe.
Maybe I’m a romantic sap but the bard cinematic gives me chills almost to the point of tears of laughter. It’s one of my favorite champs and loved that you reacted to him. ….. when more star craft 😉???
Ancient ambient tones as if the universe is speaking in a faint whisper. Bard strikes me as a purely neutral character with access to magical knowledge only he knows.
Another thing to appreciate about his character, within LoL canon, he actually is the namesake of the Bard profession. According to his other story, to Bard the world is a bell that chimes with the beautiful music of life. However a terrible silence began to leak into the world that smothered that music until there was nothing left. When the silence broke through reality and into our world, that patch of reality was splintered into countless little fragments, the chimes from his gameplay, which were scattered and fused into other objects, especially metals like (naturally) musical chimes. Bard sent out his little meeps to find and collect as many of these chimes as they could find so repair the tear in reality and stop the Void from leaking back into the world, but as many meeps as there are, there are infinitely more fragments for those meeps to locate on their own. For unclear reasons, Bard seems to take an interest in certain people, stealing them away, transforming them into meeps where they help him for "hundreds of years" before he returns them to the world. These humans-turned-meep-turned-humans, displaced from the world they knew by centuries and without a home, began to travel around the world, asking strangers to hand over their metals so they could sing "The Divine Bard"'s music which would extract the chimes, and then they'd return the metals. Over time, the "wanderer seeking "precious metals" so they could sing" gradually transformed into the profession of Bards and Balladeers, although how many of them still remember the origin of their craft isn't clear. I really liked that they added this sort of story to him. Bards are such an iconic concept, singing tales of past glory and legends as they travel the lands, shifting and changing details as they pass from person to person, that it's quite fitting for the profession itself to be the result of that very thing, at least in LoL canon.
Bard is one of my favorite champions because while he is absolutely not evil, he has no allegiances whatsoever except the balance of the universe. This is why you see him only take notice when that powerful artifact is unleashed. He ignores the horrible conflict below and focuses entirely on stopping the artifact from being used by those who do not understand it.
Bard is my main champion. I love him so much! Even my account is named after him (go ward Bard). He is so different from many of the other champions in visuals but very definitely in gameplay. Normally a support character stays near their adc to protect them. Bard however is famous for roaming the map and going wherever he pleases (not all adc players appreciate that XD). His ultimate is also completely 'neutral', and depending on how you use it it can be a gamechanger for your own team but sometimes also a winning play for the enemy when you use it badly. All of this makes it so exciting to play him. And when you roam around to collect the meeps mentioned in his story, you get this really peaceful music as you start gliding rather than walking. It's almost like a minigame to collect them. I totally understand how he is very hard to grasp from the music alone. He isn't really a 'person' with clear emotions and history, he just exists like a force of nature (a cute fluffy force of nature).
Bard is just such a fascinating character his design and lore is fascinating I suggest you watch the cinematic to understand more about this cosmic being and also his gameplay is different to almost every other champion he's a support that creates tunnels and leaves his ADC to get chimes he only has 1 damaging ability and a really strange ultimate that could literally either single handed my win a teamfight or completely and utterly screw your team over
When the fact that there is no clear melody to tell us what the character is about is what's telling us that there isn't any that clear about this character. Hahaha. I love it. Feels like the music taught us a lesson in that The answer simply are what they are. The sound effects of Bard and his horn are one of my favorite, that almost melodic bwaaaaahhh.
That aha moment you had when you were talking about how melody tells you something and there being no melody makes it hard then immediately switching to maybe the fact that there is no melody is supposed to take that same role in giving you clues was really cool.
Gotta love Bard, it’s like if you came across some unknowable Elder faerie god just chilling out in the wilderness and instead of smiting you like you'd expect an Elderitch old one to, they just wave at you and dip.
In Princessin mononoke you can find this littel Kodama, Bard reminds me to this. This littel ghost looks similiar and the entire theme of this Champion give me a mystery feeling. Wonderful, unique and fascinating! Well the song is ... maybe is more like a language for me like a Echo for living beings to communicate together. LORE dump sort of. Bard is one of the Celestial entities that is sort of meant to govern runeterras affects from the EVIl celestial counterparts in the void. He collects little chimes that are also alive and he grows in power. He has an extremely annoying kit while playing him. he can render an entire area untargettable and indestructible for a few seconds anything in it is jsut paused for a few seconds and he also can create portals through walls.
Bard is a really interesting character in league because he's just there to keep everything in balance. He's not something like a hero or a savior and won't care about what happens to the inhabitants of Runeterra. What he cares about is maintaining the equilibrium of the world and making sure no mortal holds artifacts that should have been originally kept in the celestial realm
It speaks volumes about the the making of Runeterra, that Bard a entity that can be seen as close to a god for us mortal. Think to isolate it self from infinity and near omnipotence just to figure out what happened. I also find the description of why Bard came to Runeterra teasing, like the world was to young and primitive to be this far along. Almost like it was not meant to be yet.
From what I know, Bard basically embodies cosmic indifference. All he really does is keep powerful artefacts away from us and try to stop the void with his meeps. He treats humanity like children and takes our dangerous toys to prevent us from doing anything too stupid.
Great video! I gotta say, Bard is one of my favourite supports so hearing you talk about them is awesome! I think the video gets even more interesting when you learn a bit more about the character and expand more your initial thoughts. Plus, the meeps are the most adorable choir ever
As a suggestion you could also react to their voicelines, would be really entertaining to see what kind of connection you can do between the Champions voicelines and their theme you listened to before
There's a youtuber who turned all the champion lores into one sentences and bard's was smth like "celestial pillow fort steals trinkets from people who stole them first" and like.. yeah plus the cosmic sound stuff
Off topic, Killzone's theme "Helghan March" is not only a very underrated one, but I think would be a great one to check out at some point. That and Call of Duty World At War's Soviet theme. Also very similar tones.
This song being about the ethereal and creation of the universe reminds me of of a song in SMTV called destruction, it plays during a boss fight with Shiva the god of destruction and creation in Hinduism. It's one of the more unique tracks I've heard in gaming to date.
there, I was waiting for bard for awhile not a surprise you didnt fully capture the theme (surprised you didnt catch celestial or alien vibe from the start though) but good job on the protector, yes he is a protector of...something wanted you to try Bard after ASol
You should check out Nilah's theme. It sounded like something straight out of an Avatar movie (james cameron), but somehow, even better, it blew me away.
Really like the content and insights you give. I am learning a lot. I am really surprised I haven't seen Caitlyn theme recommended all that much. It is among my favorites. If Chamille's Theme was 'darker', Caitlyn's is 'lighter'. Outside of league, for video game music, I would be interested to see what you think about: Flamerock Refuge (Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon Keep)
TLDR for Bard lore, he wanders Runeterra making sure it doesn't tear itself apart. His reasoning? Literally all because he and the Meeps likes the way Runeterra sounds and wanna help fix the sour notes.
I'd like to recommend the music from Call of Duty: World at War, Particularly the track from Downfall. Its an amazing peice that flows through so much. A game that depicts horrors of war without any grandiose romantisization. It's gritty and brutal and unapologic and in large part it is due to the music in the game that it stands apart so well as a peice of art and not just a gorey shooting game.
In the grand scheme of things in LoL lore, Bard is an entity that has its own objectives and it isn't good or bad, it won't cause destruction as far as I know but I have the feeling you really cant count on it if you truly need help either. At least is what I take from the little lore I know of them.
Hello Marco! I'm still really enjoying your league videos and analysis. Also the Undertale series, waiting for the next episode! Going back into the League videos, I thought that it could be interesting if you listened to the champions' voicelines and interactions in-game, some of them really give an insight of them, their motives and personalities. I hope you find them interesting and helpful!
Very cool video and nice that you picked up some stuff even tho as you said yourself its very difficult to do with this character and theme, anyway I really enjoyed it. btw. I saw in you pinned comment that you gonna do Aatrox soon, If I remember correctly in the past you sometimes did voicelines aswell, something I would highly recommend you do for aatrox, they are incredably well done and give a perspective to the character you might not see without them. Anyway really looking forward to it.
That conflict that is stated on his lore might as well be "The Void", a reality that is silent, dark and always asleep...that is...until the universe came to be, the universe awoke The Void and it's "creatures" and they seek to destroy everything that is so they can sleep forever again
We know little about the Celestials and Aurelion Sol, all we know is that Aurelion's race creates the cosmos, the stars and somehow Aurelion has the power to seal The Void and the Celestials abuse him for that
Btw have you listened to genshin impact ost called "make haste partner" ? A lot of people sleeped on that, it played in game during kaeya and amber quest but not loud enough for people to notice it, trust me its real good.
Bard is technically an enigma. He only does what is needed to do and never intervene in other mortal stuff. By the theme itself, it tried to made you feel how weird he is by "tones" or "melodies" that we are not acquainted to. An out of this world, if you say so. Which he is. No defining characteristic either.
i'm not surprised you struggled to come up with much on Bard xD there really isn't that much TO describe Bard, as he is kind of inherently unknown and unknowable. Plus the name 'Bard' is a massive red herring q:
Hahahaha I'm glad you mentioned that about Princess Mononoke! I thought that too about his meeps. What I also thought at the time was "great, now there will be feeders on my team til people get used to playing him." I was an idiot back then hahaha.
You really need to check out Rell's theme! She's one of the least played characters in the game atm but her music theme is one of the best! It's seriously a total banger (im totally not a rell main not at all!)
For one thing Bard is hardly inspired by Princess Mononoke for another there is an Anime called Mushishi that came out a couple years later and has brought this whole thematic to a new level. In my opinion Bard is one of the best designed champions in LoL.
The funny thing about Bard is that he doesn't really care about people, his whole thing is to take care of the cosmos. If you see Bard on the battlefield some cosmic craziness is going down.

Bard is my favorite character. It was fun to watch you experience who he is knowing the end result.
Bard music and theme always reminds me of Zereth Mortis zone from World of Warcraft, some sort of cosmic, alien entities
As a suggestion you could also react to their voicelines, would be really entertaining to see what kind of connection you can do between the Champions voicelines and their theme you listened to before
swain theme is the most fitting thing for his character its perfect
A-sol has a line when you buy a mask item from the shop saying if kindred and bard could make it work, so could he.
I love the comment on "empty space" since his physical form is basically empty space I believe.
MAN I need Sett for one of these, but I'm very excited for Aatrox so I don't want to be too impatient.
I love these videos. Consider this a comment for the youtube algorithm, and encouragement to continue the series.
There's a youtuber who turned all the champion lores into one sentences and bard's was smth like "celestial pillow fort steals trinkets from people who stole them first" and like.. yeah plus the cosmic sound stuff
Oho, Kled and Braum will be fun... Thanks as always for doing these, you keep my train rides to work bearable!
That’s really sweet. Thank you.
The day this man listens to Nunu and Willumps theme will be great. Can't wait
I look forward for a sylas theme review, much appreciation.
I’ve recommended some themes in the past, but recently I’ve really liked the Xayah and rankin theme and the lillia theme
Off topic, Killzone's theme "Helghan March" is not only a very underrated one, but I think would be a great one to check out at some point. That and Call of Duty World At War's Soviet theme. Also very similar tones.
this is such a cool concept for a video awesome job
This song being about the ethereal and creation of the universe reminds me of of a song in SMTV called destruction, it plays during a boss fight with Shiva the god of destruction and creation in Hinduism. It's one of the more unique tracks I've heard in gaming to date.
there, I was waiting for bard for awhile
not a surprise you didnt fully capture the theme (surprised you didnt catch celestial or alien vibe from the start though)
but good job on the protector, yes he is a protector of...something
wanted you to try Bard after ASol
Also, i HIGHLY implore you to listen to Sett and Sylas themes. Sett is badass, and Sylas theme is STEAMY, like, WHOO.
That's a fun ideia; do more plz
You should check out Nilah's theme. It sounded like something straight out of an Avatar movie (james cameron), but somehow, even better, it blew me away.
I would absolutely love to see what you think of the theme for Taliyah, the Stoneweaver.
You should do Urgot. It's a bit.. different🙂 compared to other themes
TLDR for Bard lore, he wanders Runeterra making sure it doesn't tear itself apart. His reasoning? Literally all because he and the Meeps likes the way Runeterra sounds and wanna help fix the sour notes.
I love how trying to describe Bard, in the first guess, Marco ended up describing a different champion up to detail.
Uh
I won't say which champion, in case you may do him in the future.
I think I know which one you're talking about... not sure though.
@@mclark347 just a small hint, his best friend is Daisy.
@@THEO00900 Oh, that's not the one I was thinking of. It definitely fits though.
love these league breakdowns! more more more!
Lulu and Shacos wacky encounter is still my pick for league music.
I've waiting for this video for a long time, love bard
Also the Song that riot gave to Bard in hes Legends of Runeterra version is very different to the original, you should give it a listen
I would love for you ti react to swain, he has in my opinion one of the best theme.
I love your videos :3
Not much longer now!
In the grand scheme of things in LoL lore, Bard is an entity that has its own objectives and it isn't good or bad, it won't cause destruction as far as I know but I have the feeling you really cant count on it if you truly need help either.
At least is what I take from the little lore I know of them.
I never actually read bard's lore, thats fascinating
Hello Marco! I'm still really enjoying your league videos and analysis. Also the Undertale series, waiting for the next episode!
Going back into the League videos, I thought that it could be interesting if you listened to the champions' voicelines and interactions in-game, some of them really give an insight of them, their motives and personalities. I hope you find them interesting and helpful!
I’ll start in a bit! I have five pre recorded but after those
Oh, Aatrox is coming! After listening his theme you really should listen to his in-game quotes and interactions.
I missed the voice lines - it’ll be a few champs but I’ll add them to new videos
That conflict that is stated on his lore might as well be "The Void", a reality that is silent, dark and always asleep...that is...until the universe came to be, the universe awoke The Void and it's "creatures" and they seek to destroy everything that is so they can sleep forever again
We know little about the Celestials and Aurelion Sol, all we know is that Aurelion's race creates the cosmos, the stars and somehow Aurelion has the power to seal The Void and the Celestials abuse him for that
frequencias ... frequencias ... o espaço é uma balada
Btw have you listened to genshin impact ost called "make haste partner" ? A lot of people sleeped on that, it played in game during kaeya and amber quest but not loud enough for people to notice it, trust me its real good.
Always hyped to see a League reaction :D
Beard is looking magnificent if I say so myself!!
I think you may really enjoy listening to Caitlyn's and Seraphine's theme
Narrator: "Bard is a support..."
Bard mains: "So anyway, I started blasting..."
Bard is my favourite champion, I'm so happy
u should listen to GRIS's ost, i dont even have words to describes these
I feel like Gris would actually be a really good candidate for the musical lets play series
Huh I'm getting some aboriginal vibes from it like the Australian level in Sly Cooper Honor Among Theives where you help out Guru
I really like your reaction to the music from League of Legends.
Perhaps you could make a reaction to the music theme of Kalista or Yorick
