Swain's most notable and appreciable trait is probably his self-awareness.
He doesn't deny the crimes he has committed , he doesn't deny how dangerous his bargain with a demon is , he doesn't deny Old Noxus' mistakes , nor does he consider his judgement absolute/the wisest , hence why Noxus is now ruled by a trio of people , both to stop Swain in case the demon takes hold of him , and to ensure no one can rule Noxus however they please.
He is just so down to earth , no flaunting and boasting and thinking he's the all-mighty hero of the story. He is a villain and he embraces it , believing the end will justify his means , or the world will no longer exist to condemn said means.
So basically, hes COMPETENT.
The most badass thing about swain is he literally outsmarted a demon of knowledge and stole full reign of that demons powers without consequence. He straight up made a deal with the devil and came out with the better deal. What a lad.

They still continually attack and take resources from Freljord and Ionia
They had Jarvan III killed, because he was about to stop the subjugation of mages; They even pinned his assassination to the mages. Funnily enough, Jarvan III's assassination lead Demacia to becoming stronger; As they are toning down on the racism and started using giant petricite constructs.
They tried to take Bilgewater, and ended with most of their ships stolen and Gangplank personally adding Swain's ship to his fleet.
And what's more they're not actually unified lol; The 3 heads of Noxus don't like each other.
@@PhantomFox77 yeah, what needs to be remembered is that these demons are ageless, they have time. I'm sure people who made deals with Tahm Kench enjoyed their time for a good while before the pendulum swung the opposite way and it came time to pay up.
@@boxtupos7718The noxus heads don't like each other but that doesn't mean for the most part they can't work together. It kinda makes it better with noxus since they are always trying to 1 up and outsmart another. there is a reason noxus isn't falling apart.
Funnily enough, swain does not see himself as a good guy but does what is necessary to the empire he lives in, that's why he's sometimes saying "the few for the many"

Some people might see Swain as a tyrant or a dictator but not only is that wrong but in reality he is honestly the best thing that has happened to Nuxus in forever.
Before this they had a mad king who sent soldiers to their death to find some "key to immortality" but instead Swain found a demon and a new purpose. He got rid of the old king, made a new government system with him and 2 other pillars of Noxus (aka the trifarix council) in charge, made slavery illegal, bases peoples ranking on their merit and not their social status, race or gender, got rid of royalty and forced them to fight to regain their titles, and is now currently planning to conquer the world trough either negotiations or conquest (but mostly they kill the rulers of other countries and absorbs the people into Noxus)
As they say in Noxus: "Kill them until they are family"
So the part when Noxus sends Sion to destroy cities and villages that riot against Noxus and experimenting on kids is ok as well or?

@@AlphaI250 it's a 50/50. Sion is under Swain's rule, but the haemomancers, those are Black Rose, they made Briar and the Gray Legion, which are basically weaponised zombies used in battle... Worst part, some of them aren't even noxian, look at the art from "Lost Soul", doesn't he look a bit based on east designs?

I'm so happy to finally see my main get the spotlight! A reason Jericho Swain is one of my favorite characters is that despite being ruthless and cunning, he is one of the most selfless character in the series. Everything he has ever done is for the future of Noxus and its benefits and never just for himself. He literally made a deal and sold his soul to Raum, the demon of secrets to gain the knowledge he needed to bring Noxus to glory. He is the epitome of a gigachad.
He out smarted Raum he did not sell his soul can you Imagine that !!! A Human
I love Swain and do agree with the sentiment, but in a way, Swain's nationalism is incredibly selfish. He acts for his people, but only for HIS people. He has little to no sympathy for who Noxus crushes.
Gigachad mentality gets bigger once you know that he purposefully kept people alive that are powerful enough to kill him, in case he needs to be killed due to Raum taking over.
@@sch7001He outsmarted him for a time, but he can’t trap Raum forever. At some point Raum is gonna consume his soul and Swain knows he has limited time before that happens.
@@baileycreane4060 that's not true tho. yes they do invade other countries because their territory is infertile and they need food, but they never choose to kill the people, they mainly kill the kings. and even then, the kings can also live if they simply surrender.
The general ! This guy exudes this aura of lawfull evil that you gotta love , the kinda guy who does messed up things and he knows they are messed up but is the price to pay for his goals
A pretty important point that you didn't get to read, some time after he returned from the war in Ionia he staged a coup and killed Boram Darkwill and established The Trifarix, a governing body of 3 people to rule Noxus. The reason for 3 people is so if one was to be corrupted (like Boram Darkwill) the other 2 can keep that person in check. Swain is representing Vision, Darius is representing Might, and "The Faceless" (who wears a mask and the public (and us the readers) do not know who it is (but it is suspected this person is being corrupted by LeBlanc)) is representing Guile.

It was revealed that the faceless was actually Marcus DuCoteau, but he was basically a puppet to LeBlanc, he tried a coup but was stopped by Swain and Katarina.

fun fact hes not absolute type of leader like dictator, he did rise through the ranks to undo all the corruptions inside Noxus and take over the ancient ruler while not being the only new in charge, he made sure the newfound government couldnt be corrupted again by dividing it in 3 with him the grand general being the brain of noxus military, darius being the hand of noxus being the head of the noxian army and the 3rd guy (i forgot his name) is dedicated to keeping noxus whole and get rid of the inside problems and corruption to make a nation that wont treat people differently because of their origins, gender etc, like briar said "noxus doesnt care that you're different, just that you're strong" which is opposed to demacian monarchy where lowborns are just screwed (like sylas)

Yeah crazy how Swain came back with demon powers and decided to do generally good things like abolishing slavery, rooting out corruption within Noxus, basing peoples worth on their merit instead of titles, race, gender, ect. And let's not forget them literally having the X-MAN schools n shit were children go to learn how to control their magic/ demonic powers. Honestly he might be a "bad guy" but he's not a monster

Swain is, overall, tied with Pantheon for my favourite character in all of Runeterra. I love people who do evil to prevent or delay a much worse evil, and that combined with the genuine care he has for Noxus and its people make him a very interesting character. He's the Batman of this world, with failsafe upon failsafe put in place to ensure that no one person can ever rule over everything and everyone, even himself should Raum escape his grasp or LeBlanc end up controlling him.
"To rewrite the map, the blood of soldiers must be the ink." I wouldn't exactly call Swain evil, but he's cold and pragmatic to the point of brutality. He knows what needs to be done, and if sacrifices need to be made to further the goals of Noxus, then that's just the way it is. His reasons for taking power were legitimate and could even be called righteous, and it's hard to fault a leader for valuing the empire above all else. However, on the other (more demonic) hand, Swain has an ultimate vision in mind and is completely committed to realizing it. Now that he's found a way to harness power and knowledge from Raum (the demon of secrets and the dark power mentioned in his bio), his plans have simply become too large-scale for him to be capable of caring about any individuals beyond making sure they play their part.
2:00 The whispering you hear is a reference to his demonic powers. The demon he subdued was a demon of secrets- the ravens that surround him whisper secrets in his ear. You even hear the whispers in the game whenever you hit someone with his abilities and trigger his passive, “ravenous flock”.
I also just want to say that when he dances he whistles his theme to himself. It’s so good
What I liked the most about Swain's music is that it's not only a reflection of his character, but his story as a whole. The first intense verse is akin to his rise in power and establishment as a Noxian leader, his ruling fist of iron and the marching of war. Then we get a more subtle and tranquil bridge where the whisperings are more prominent, the voice of Raum ever present but at the gates of death, amidst the silence, clearer than ever, a reflection of Swain's most vulnerable period. And then we get hit again by a verse very similar to the intro, but even stronger, more intense, Swain has arisen again from the depths with the greatest might ever, but it is also more sinister and the whispers are more frequent, revealing the subtle demonic nature of this newfound power
I feel the music tells the story of going to war in Ionia, failing and becoming crippled (grandiose music diminishing into sadness), then there's the pact with Raum (the whispers).
Nice! Doing voice lines now, that's so cool, always thought that this would make every react better. Good work Marco!
Swain is the one characther that can convince you to play with him just by the looks, theme, lore and voice lines alone is something some champions can't brag about

Explanation about the 6 eyes-crows:
Swain has inside him an ancient demon called raum, the demon of secrets.
That demon works for him and he also can use all its powers, abilities and knowledge as if it was his own.
The crows arent real birds but the physical manifestation of the presence of his demon.
They are “its eyes” to put am example and swain can see everything with them.

Edit now having watched full vid: Swain after finding Raum and making a reverse-faustian deal with it led a coup against Boram Darkwill, and in doing so basically toppled and then restructured the entire government of Noxus to make a triumvirate with each member representing a different form of strength. Darius is body, Swain is will, and a mystery figure (presumably LeBlanc) is mind/cunning
Its vision, strength and guile. Swain is vision, darius is (unsurprisingly) strength and guile is a mystery third person
1:41 (and some other parts) was really interesting I think. Maybe I'm on to nothing but I think the sad sounds that were abruptly cut off by a more disciplined/harsh tempo that came and went through the piece of music resembles how he may sometimes catch himself doing things that are more for his own interest (or being swayed by LeBlanc's mind control or whatever) but then focusing back to his duty as general.

The way Swain's eyes slowly shift towards you, and you look at his eyes, not sure if he's watching you or not and then his eyes snap back up and you're like "Oh shit, he was watching me." xD
It's interesting that you'd think a song about a war leader like Swain would be in major instead of minor key. I'm a Finn, and I grew up listening to old Finnish music (and by assimilation, some Soviet too), and to me this song just sounds like regular WW2 era patriotic music.
Although this could also be just the effect of the Finlandia hymn on my thoughts, who knows.

Funny thing about bad arm gramps, he got a rework that actually progressed his story, i think him and akali were the only ones where that happened, his character in game was getting outdated at a gameplay level so Rito Gaems said bam, new Swain he's older now, has a demon arm and got a promotion to leader of the country from strategist or something i dont remember, i dont think many people remember

I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Swain is the epitome of Machiavellian. He is not evil for the sake of being evil. He is evil because he knows what Noxus needs at the moment. If there was somebody kinder and less ruthless that could still provide Noxus with the leadership and strength it needs, he would step down in a heartbeat. But he knows that Noxus has countless foes within and without, that would tear it apart in a heartbeat for their own selfishness or over old grudges. So he rules with an iron fist, but such precision that he is admired by his people. For him, Runeterra is all one great campaign map, and its his business to know EVERYTHING.
Swain is a very interesting character to say the least.
While A LOT of Runeterra sees him as a tyrant and an evil conqueror, Swain is actually extremely attached to Noxus and it's legacy. What he does, he does to make Noxus prosper, even if that includes waging war and sacrificing many.
What makes him interesting is, however, he doesn't see himself as a hero. He sees himself a lot more like a necessary evil to make Noxus as great as possible. He doesn't take pleasure in killing, nor does he take pleasure in sending his compatriots to die, but he sees this as a sacrifice needed not only for Noxus, but for all other nations who still are under the yoke of a king or nobility, whose titles they usually don't deserve. Swain dreams of a nation united not by titles and heirlooms, but by accomplishment, strenght and ideals.
Swain is a really nice ''twist'' on the dictator character, because most of them are selfish bastards while Swain is overall quite selfless and think of the greater good first.

Swain is just a bundle of tropes, like most LoL Characters, but the tropes are pretty cool and here they are perfectly executed.

Fun fact, part of why Swain is so unending in his expanse of noxus and its power is because when he was within the immortal bastion he gained the knowledge of Mordekaiser's return and seeing what was coming decided he would have noxus survive no matter what evils he had to commit
The best part is that the main melody sometimes plays at the start of the match when you play Swain!
music describes his life in noxus,
the first part is sort of innocent, loyal, proud representing his rise through the ranks of the noxian army,
then the music changes representing the betrayal of noxus's tyrant, where he sent him to die in ionia
then the scheming part, where he plans and conspires to overthrow the leadership
and the 3rd act comes in an instant, like how he took over noxus in one day,
it is assertive, corrupted and wrong in a way, but stays loyal to noxus in a way

no one probably cares but I I've been playing Swain, since Season 6 of League even before the Swain rework ( he looks different back then), back then I didn't know anything about the lore but since S8 I've been enjoying the lore side too and was surprised that me and Swain share the same first name!!!
I was happy that he got a rework but I kinda miss his old Birdman Transformation (I do love the new Demonic Ascension!! )
Edit: forgot to mention that you'll hear this music when the game starts when you play as Swain! Only few have their own music on their default skin

As a D&D player, I think that Swain is a very good example for the alignment "Lawful Evil".
He's principled but vicious, that makes him a perfect example of Lawful Evil.
