The absolute tragedy of Viego is that he gave everything to try and hold on to Isolde. His wealth, his prestige, his sanity, his people. And after finally finding a way to 'save' her from death he finds that she doesn't want to hold on with him any longer. Isolde's line during the cinematic is the most poignant to their story. After nearly destroying the entire world to regain her soul and revive her as a ghost (again), she responds in somber agony: "I loved you until my final breath... Why wasn't that enough?" Truly heartbreaking.
Technically false! But only because Viego, upon returning, has no memory of Isolde killing him. He's just desperately trying to get her back. Well... was. We're kinda past that in the lore.

And I personally believe he was as aware as the viewer is that she wasn't acting like herself when she killed him. Otherwise she would've acted the same when he came back. It was being ripped from death unnaturally that brought her back in such a violent form that she killed him.

Honestly, Viego's theme and story just make me really want an actual opera of his life story, from his youth to his time as king and culminating in the tragedy that is the ruination. I think it could be very moving.
yeah, and show the story of Kalista who is the most tragic character in this story, imho. more tragic maybe just a man who was in love with her, forgot his name....
It's probably already been mentioned, but something interesting about Viego is how the Black Mist works. When it consumes someone, infects someone, it brings out their darkest aspects within them. Their hatred, their self doubt, their disdain, self loathing, etc etc. It feeds into their hidden agonies and amplifies them to an obsessive level (At least that is my understanding of it from the Sentinels event and other bits of lore. -- In the case of Viego, despite having control of the Mist, it ultimately controls him, he is a slave to his own power in the sense that he is lost, there is only one thing he can focus on, one aspect of him amplified to a destructive point, his love for Isolde. His grief is all he is and ever will be.
Less than two minutes in and your understanding of the character is already incredibly accurate. I don't know what's more impressive, the fact that you can gleam any of this from a few seconds of music or the composer facilitating it in the first place. Amazing stuff

I love that the piano sounds like a character on its own that's trying to force the rest of the orchestra to follow its will idk maybe I'm reaching but it would seem to fit his character
Viego is in my opinion one of the most interesting villains in League of Legends Lore. He single-handedly started a Massive War against a really big part of Runeterra just to revive her dead Wife. I Hope they will bring him back again . Also his theme is a masterpiece...
My favorite part of this piece is the uncanny contrast between the motif of the rising augmented chords clashing with the dramatic romantic concerto, perhaps to evoke a ghostly presence, or perhaps to evoke that something about the emotion conveyed by the piano is eerily off, not quite there, non-desacriptly skewed. Hey, or perhaps both, which we know makes perfect sense here in this case. Absolutely fantastic piece!
Viego's story is a such a complex and tragic one! it's really heart breaking and is ultimately a darker twist on the typical fantasy prince fairy tale. He became evil because the world denied him his love, and until he gets her back- all will fall to ruin.
My favorite part of his theme is the musicbox becuase of how it symbolises everything he is figthing for, visions of a future with his wife that will never fully come true. It has a dream like quality to it and with his background orgin story Viego is indeed child like as well. It fits so well and that tiny part makes the rest of the theme come together to represent Viego as a character perfectly. The dream like sound of the musicbox ads a kind of purety which brings out the saddnes of loss in this theme. The rest of it discribes his grandiosness of royalty, the confusion and delusion which in turn incobination with the main melody from the musicbox through the hole piece shows that it is the only thing that some what keeps Viego intact. He will stop at nothing to get what he has lost back and chaos erupts. Such a good champion theme!
This video not only exemplifies how good you are at brilliantly deducing facts about a character's lore based solely on the music used to represent them, but also conversely how good Riot's music is at conveying those things.

As an (uneducated) fan of complex music and video games... its so interesting watching actual musicians reactions to themes and soundtracks I enjoy on a raw emotional level, and the level of detail and lore embedded there that I miss.
It was awesome to see how you enjoyed and analysed the theme. Love the newly added lore reading and reflection part. Please do Aphelios's theme one day if you haven't yet! His theme is probably one of the best in term of having the vocals and the music intertwine to tell the story together, my personal favorite.
Something intresting about this theme: part of the theme was sampled from another music from riot, but it's the "same song". Pentakill - Blade of Ruined King. Riot make a Heavy Metal band, with the tracks sing ou play about some itens or characters of Lore. And the Blade of the Ruined King always was a item, from dps-on-hit champions, and them make the song first in Heavy Metal, but when they make Viego a playable champion Riot make a full theme for him... and now he've a skin Dissonance of Pentakill. (Sorry if some words doesn't make sense, i'm a portuguese speaker)

I recently found your channel like yesterday, and have gone through a lot of your stuff to see more of your takes on this. I'm absolutely gobsmacked you're able to pull such accurate takes on Viego from the music itself. Also, the expressions on your face as you pantomime out the music? Cracked me up and made me fall in love with your content. In fact, your content is making me want to take more of a look at the League music for champion themes. Not just their music videos.
Man you got it it right, honestly viegos theme has a lot of lot of ways it ties with its character, you should check out the music around Warwick (his blood hunt music is pretty good)
fyi ending of this soundtrack is a reference to an old song 'blade of the ruined king' from the first metal album of league of legends 'blade of the ruined king'
It scary how you correctly guesses Viego, he is supposely a King, but still act childist, he is obssess with his queen, ever since she died he just wanted to brought her back in which create a ruination, he become damned, ruined, and still dellusion about his queen and to find her, the music box is a gift he got from his queen during their wedding day which he still hold dear, but now came the title Ruined King Viego, his missions is to brought back his queen, he does not care if it cause the world to end, he will find his lover, which came the sentinel who is the hero of the story trying to stop him from ending the world, moral of the story, even if it hurt to see your love one die, just move on, it will still hurt, but you'll find happy somewhere else, which I recommend Akshan theme because he is one of the sentinel who also lost his dear, but he learn to move on after the defeat of Viego (well Banish is a better term here). (notice his chest that have a triangle in it? yeah after the first time he resurected his wife, she stabbed him with his own sword which then now is the main cause for all the mist, damned, and the monster coming out, to either find his wife or controling others to find his wife.)
Here a list of some I think are incredible you might listen to if you want 🌝 : Kayle and Morgana, Gwen, Kindred, Camille, Taliyah, Qiyana. And Demacia rising (it's not a champ but it's cool too)

Another interesting bit about this theme is that that part at the end is borrowed from Pentakills "Blade of the Ruined King", an earlier song from LoLs metal band. Along with the Gwen thing it's nice to see them pay that much attention across the board

the viego history .... is just a big tragedy.... is literally the definition of the famous question " what can go wrong? " and destiny answers "everything".... this is why well me as many other people want a some sort of redemption to the man... a way for him to go and be happy once again ...... he was never inherently evil but what he went through in his life his low emotion maturity , his lack of preparation , the shaddy people who used him in his most desperate time .... made him went crazy and do atrocitys as far the history could told.... but there was still some piece of him deep inside that was good.... and it just wanted the only thing in his life that had value for him .... his wife

YES I can finally stop asking him to listen to it on every video! Also the music box melody is that of a music box Viego gave to Isolde as a wedding gift. That little music box motif comes up almost inevitably whenever Viego rears his pretty boy head.
Was just having a conversation with a friend the other day about some of the more interesting and great champion themes, viego was one of them but the other five were Gwen, Kindred, Taliyah, Braum and Ornn. All of them are fantastic and would love to eventually see you check them out

"Viego is old. Viego is damaged." Viego is absolutely ROASTED ten seconds into his theme. Viego and Gwen's are two of my favourite base character themes, alongside Aurelion Sol and Jhin. The two were released...I think one after the other? and are very intertwined in the lore, and they're two of the most beautiful and emotional themes in the game.
Been interesting catching up on these, and seeing your approach to the whole process get refined as you go, on top of the quality of your guesses! It'll be fun if you get around to Kled some day, though I highly recommend not even seeing what the character looks like ahead of time, if you can help it. I suspect it would make for a fun surprise at the end :P
I would recommend watching Necrit's video on TH-cam explaining Viego's voicelines. To give you an idea, Viego, the Ruined King, is hands down the MOST anticipated League of Legends character. Players who played the game KNEW about the Ruined King for a decade, but other than knowing he did something terrible where he fell from grace, we didn't know anything else. Not a name. Not a background on where he's from. Not what he specifically did that earned him the title the Ruined King. We knew he was legendary, and that's it. For one decade. Then Riot came at us with this masterpiece of a character. He's terrifying. He's majestic. He's broken. He's insanely powerful (easily top 3 in power if you exclude literal Gods and Primal demons in lore). He's tragic. His whole story is just epic and Riot worked on him for 10 years, bit by bit, so it's MASSIVE. Seriously, a whole novel is coming out for him specifically. And he only gets more interesting the more you learn about him.
Once again, you pretty much guessed who Viego is from the theme alone. Both you and riot's music team are amazing. There's also Lucian, (the one you saw in the cinematic), who has a cool theme (one of my favorite tbh). But there's not much going on, as in the characterization of the character in his theme is spot on.
if you have the time, you could also watch the intro for the ruined king game, where an iteration of viego's theme is played and basically shows the part of the story where isolde stabs him with his own sword and the ruination begins
I think you have the entire timeline in this piece. Music box that represents a woman, romanticism, madness and the fall. There is a lot of small bits in this music that make a very complicated whole if it makes any sense. ;)

I love the format where you look at the trailers and the lore of the character to see how well you've pulled out the lore and character's personality from the music. A thing about Viego is,when we see his lore at first we think that he was a great husband to Isolde,and becoming mad of losing her was a consequence of loving her so much,but as it goes we learn that actually Viego was VERY possessive,so much that he couldn't accept that Isolde died ("left" him").
5:50 this is the start of Viego's transformation into the Ruined King. The sorrow of losing Isolde again, and that sadness turning into endless rage that would roll over Runeterra in the Black Mist. You know music is good when you can imagine the scenes they'd play in.
As long as the event and the cinematic being really bad, Viego the Ruined King is one of the most long awaited and most satisfying character reveals in the whole story for me.
Viego has suffered so much that he decided the world should pay for it, and became one of the biggest threats the League Of Legend universe had ever faced
Please check out Mundo theme sometime in the future. On a side note I tell people that League's themes are amazing in a fact that they portray the story and the general gist of the characters as well as their feelings. AND YOU MY GUY are the perfect example of that, the first cut in you make your analysis in spot on about who and how Viego is. Love the content and i suggest you check out Gwen next as her theme is a direct opposite/ component to Viegos. Other amazing themes are: Sylas, Kindred or Taric
Guessed everything perfectly, as per usual. You should try Gwen next, she's connected to Viego by lore, and you can hear that in her theme. Other than that, Akali, Irelia, Taliyah, Swain, Renata Glasc, Warwick, Nilah, Kindred (personally, the best one in the game) are great themes too, but are also mostly wildly different from what you've heard so far :) There is of course more, Riot's music team is just great, man. I love watching these, can't wait for more

Riot also made another song for Viego called "I'll find a way (ft. TELLE)". Its a great listen and paints a good picture of Viego and his ambitions.

Man you got it it right, honestly viegos theme has a lot of lot of ways it ties with its character, you should check out the music around Warwick (his blood hunt music is pretty good)

It scary how you correctly guesses Viego, he is supposely a King, but still act childist, he is obssess with his queen, ever since she died he just wanted to brought her back in which create a ruination, he become damned, ruined, and still dellusion about his queen and to find her, the music box is a gift he got from his queen during their wedding day which he still hold dear, but now came the title Ruined King Viego, his missions is to brought back his queen, he does not care if it cause the world to end, he will find his lover, which came the sentinel who is the hero of the story trying to stop him from ending the world, moral of the story, even if it hurt to see your love one die, just move on, it will still hurt, but you'll find happy somewhere else, which I recommend Akshan theme because he is one of the sentinel who also lost his dear, but he learn to move on after the defeat of Viego (well Banish is a better term here). (notice his chest that have a triangle in it? yeah after the first time he resurected his wife, she stabbed him with his own sword which then now is the main cause for all the mist, damned, and the monster coming out, to either find his wife or controling others to find his wife.)
I haven't finished the video yet, but I love seeing your passion for music show as the theme escalates. So far, you're on point for characterization!

Another interesting bit about this theme is that that part at the end is borrowed from Pentakills "Blade of the Ruined King", an earlier song from LoLs metal band. Along with the Gwen thing it's nice to see them pay that much attention across the board

the viego history .... is just a big tragedy.... is literally the definition of the famous question " what can go wrong? " and destiny answers "everything".... this is why well me as many other people want a some sort of redemption to the man... a way for him to go and be happy once again ...... he was never inherently evil but what he went through in his life his low emotion maturity , his lack of preparation , the shaddy people who used him in his most desperate time .... made him went crazy and do atrocitys as far the history could told.... but there was still some piece of him deep inside that was good.... and it just wanted the only thing in his life that had value for him .... his wife
To me the best theme will always be Camille. She also has amazing lore and I highly recommend if you like harpsichord and violin.

He was a proud selfish who loved only his image of Isolde and made her fit it many times. The game "Ruined King: A League of Legends Story" shows many flavors, how Viego behaved on a daily basis and how much romance was in him and how much tyrant. Big applause for noticing this after the music alone. Great analysis.
YES I can finally stop asking him to listen to it on every video! Also the music box melody is that of a music box Viego gave to Isolde as a wedding gift. That little music box motif comes up almost inevitably whenever Viego rears his pretty boy head.
The Absolution cinematic tells part of his story a bit more, also explains the music box that is used in the song.
Was just having a conversation with a friend the other day about some of the more interesting and great champion themes, viego was one of them but the other five were Gwen, Kindred, Taliyah, Braum and Ornn. All of them are fantastic and would love to eventually see you check them out

"Viego is old. Viego is damaged." Viego is absolutely ROASTED ten seconds into his theme.
Viego and Gwen's are two of my favourite base character themes, alongside Aurelion Sol and Jhin. The two were released...I think one after the other? and are very intertwined in the lore, and they're two of the most beautiful and emotional themes in the game.
Been interesting catching up on these, and seeing your approach to the whole process get refined as you go, on top of the quality of your guesses! It'll be fun if you get around to Kled some day, though I highly recommend not even seeing what the character looks like ahead of time, if you can help it. I suspect it would make for a fun surprise at the end :P

I would recommend watching Necrit's video on TH-cam explaining Viego's voicelines.
To give you an idea, Viego, the Ruined King, is hands down the MOST anticipated League of Legends character. Players who played the game KNEW about the Ruined King for a decade, but other than knowing he did something terrible where he fell from grace, we didn't know anything else. Not a name. Not a background on where he's from. Not what he specifically did that earned him the title the Ruined King. We knew he was legendary, and that's it. For one decade.
Then Riot came at us with this masterpiece of a character. He's terrifying. He's majestic. He's broken. He's insanely powerful (easily top 3 in power if you exclude literal Gods and Primal demons in lore). He's tragic. His whole story is just epic and Riot worked on him for 10 years, bit by bit, so it's MASSIVE. Seriously, a whole novel is coming out for him specifically. And he only gets more interesting the more you learn about him.

There's also Lucian, (the one you saw in the cinematic), who has a cool theme (one of my favorite tbh). But there's not much going on, as in the characterization of the character in his theme is spot on.

Viego's theme has always been a really fascinating and entertaining piece to really listen to.
if you have the time, you could also watch the intro for the ruined king game, where an iteration of viego's theme is played and basically shows the part of the story where isolde stabs him with his own sword and the ruination begins
I think you have the entire timeline in this piece. Music box that represents a woman, romanticism, madness and the fall. There is a lot of small bits in this music that make a very complicated whole if it makes any sense. ;)
I would love to see you check out maybe some of more fun and light hearted champions! Braum, Kled, Taliyah, Poppy and Ivern all have fantastic themes!

I love your videos I am always interested when people analyse music especially if the music has lore or some kind of an idea of what the character is. I love the format where you look at the trailers and the lore of the character to see how well you've pulled out the lore and character's personality from the music. A thing about Viego is,when we see his lore at first we think that he was a great husband to Isolde,and becoming mad of losing her was a consequence of loving her so much,but as it goes we learn that actually Viego was VERY possessive,so much that he couldn't accept that Isolde died ("left" him").
5:50 this is the start of Viego's transformation into the Ruined King. The sorrow of losing Isolde again, and that sadness turning into endless rage that would roll over Runeterra in the Black Mist. You know music is good when you can imagine the scenes they'd play in.

As long as the event and the cinematic being really bad, Viego the Ruined King is one of the most long awaited and most satisfying character reveals in the whole story for me.
Viego has suffered so much that he decided the world should pay for it, and became one of the biggest threats the League Of Legend universe had ever faced

Please check out Mundo theme sometime in the future. On a side note I tell people that League's themes are amazing in a fact that they portray the story and the general gist of the characters as well as their feelings. AND YOU MY GUY are the perfect example of that, the first cut in you make your analysis in spot on about who and how Viego is. Love the content and i suggest you check out Gwen next as her theme is a direct opposite/ component to Viegos. Other amazing themes are: Sylas, Kindred or Taric

Guessed everything perfectly, as per usual. You should try Gwen next, she's connected to Viego by lore, and you can hear that in her theme. Other than that, Akali, Irelia, Taliyah, Swain, Renata Glasc, Warwick, Nilah, Kindred (personally, the best one in the game) are great themes too, but are also mostly wildly different from what you've heard so far :)
There is of course more, Riot's music team is just great, man. I love watching these, can't wait for more
