The place she grew up was a field of flowers that ate memories, which is why she can't remember anything about her past. After living with the humans for a while, she found a guy that she fell in love with, and they were together for a while before at one point she became "essence drunk" and accidentally killed him by eating too much of his essence. She then had a really dark period where she was just killing people all over and people saw her as a monster. But, eventually she realized that that's not who she wanted to be, and so she left Ionia (the region she was living) to go to Bilgewater (the pirate place) and ended up helping a group of other champions stop Viego from taking over the world. After that, she realized that she wanted to be a better person while also trying to figure out who she is and where her tribe went. I think a lot of the song is symbolic of the adventure that she's been on. There's a lot of slow and more somber moments, but the running theme is about moving and following your path.
Reminder that a good part of her lore and character are more developed in another game from riot forge, that would be the Ruined King, instead of League (which isn't exactly a lore-heavy game)...

The difficult part about guessing from this is that the theme is for a new chapter in Ahri's life, not an encapsulation of her entire story. It suits her very well but only the current version of her.
Funny you should mention Kitsune. I read that Ahri was a Kumiho. They're an entirely different breed of fox spirits. While Kitsune are tricksters, star-crossed lovers and fonts of wisdom, Kumiho are predators. A Kitsune might leave you bewildered, discombobulated, heartbroken, frustrated, angry, laughing or enlightened, depending on their character and mood, a Kumiho leaves you without a liver.
ahri used to be a very seducing character that fit role of the kitsune.after the whole ruined game thing,riot decided that they want her to be more focused on her new life,rather than her soul-drinking past.the voiceline update she got last year reflects this.she went from an evelynn-like seductress to an energetic and optimistic character
Ahri is an OLD champion, and many of her content is outdated. Her place in the rework is after the events of the Ruined King game, where she found out many things about her origins and made peace with herself. This is a version of Ahri at her best, loving herself and living life. It's a very hopeful theme in my eyes.

The VO from her visual rework come from after the development she got in some stories and mainly the Ruined King game, so this is an Ahri that has become more confident and accepting of her nature, rather than depressed about having to kill. I think her theme somewhat aligns to that by starting more soft and melancholic but going on a more fast pace as it builds up. And while she's not a healer exactly, healing herself with her passive is a big part of her gameplay (I think the gameplay video doesn't quite make that clear).
6:00 well, Ahri is an offensive trickster mage (by that I mean her fast moving outsmart/maneuver you play style) who charms people, but in Ruined King, a spinoff RPG game, she can be built as a healer/DPS hybrid so not a bad guess. 2nd best healer too if I remember, Illaoi is kinda broken in that game, she can literally do all the roles.
A fun little musical fact about league music is that the fast-paced flowing strings you hear is a kind of hallmark sound for champions from Ionia, I don't think everyone has it but I know irelia has fast paced strings. So I think it's a relatively new thing they've been doing So please correct me if im wrong
Fun fact about Arhi : she s one of the main character of an alternate rpg game about league of legend (game is called Ruined king, a league of legend storry). In that game, she gets a lot of character development, and I feel like that theme, and everything you guessed about her fit much more for how arhi was in that game, rather than her previous state in the league itself. also yes, she s a support DPS in that game :D
Rework can mean a lot of things with League, from skill overhaul, minor changes to play style, or a total visual overhaul and any combination of those. It is usually when they update an older champ to be more in line with current ones.
As you could see, Ahri in traditionnal League of Legends isn't really a team healer (though she can heal herself). My favorite version of Ahri though, in the Ruined King videogame, she becomes someone who can both heal teammates and rip away her foes' vitality. That, plus the journey she's embarked on in Ruined King + a few official cinematics, makes this theme extremely fitting. Character design-wise, I love Ruined King Ahri's model: she's still beautiful and elegant, but there's also definitely a feral and dangerous side to her that her model displays extremely well^^

Correction: Ahri is based on the gumiho, not the kistune. Although they are very closely related alongisde the Chinese counterpart (jiu wei hu, literally meaning Nine-Tail Fox), they are different "species" entirely. Just to clarify.
They also have very different roles in their respective mythologies. In Korean mythology, the Gumiho is much more of a predator by nature, and it's only through dedicated effort and will that they can become "Better". This is also mirrored in Ahri's story, which is themed as a recovering addict.
Her old Lore is gumiho where she lured prey in to steal their souls. Her new lore is more closely to the kitsune which are intelligent foxes with the ability to shapeshift into humans and grow with strength and wisdom the older they get. Ahri is 200+ years old and new lore shows how smart and cunning she is.
@itz_Louis She's still very, very much a gumiho struggling to be better, as shown in the game Ruined King. The soul-stealing wasn't retconned, it was developed through. It is very much a story of a predator by nature striving to become more than that nature.

That was so pretty! I can definitely feel the mystic-like pattern throughout it like you mentioned. It could just be the use of the flute, but it makes me think of ancient, yet childish playfulness in the solo.

It's SOOO good, and I think her lore is a great mix of mystery, tragedy, and adventure. She's a good example of a character that isn't necessarily good or evil, but has a life full of a series of events that have shaped her. This music is so gorgeous; to try to paint that picture in song is a tough job.
Ahri's lore is one that has grown outside the overview you read. She has had like a full character arc with seeking her ancestors' history and fearing the monster she sees herself as. That is what her lines to Lillia were about... this theme is definitely her at the end of her current character arc.
You hit the nail on the head! The music feels warm and loving but also quick and adventerous/determined while maintaining elegance. I had goosebumps listening to this for the first time. Gameplay wise, Ahri has become a control mage who focuses on being hard to catch while dealing damage. So your prediction of her being a support dps is closer than the abilities video.

It amazes me how much you can perceive with only music and sound alone! Great analysis! Ahri used to be one of my least favorite design character-wise as she was mostly used as sex appeal, merged with Japanese/Chinese folklore. Since her new appearance in The Ruined King game, a lot of her personality, reasoning, ambitions, her past, her culture and overall character was fleshed-out. She became one of my favorite champion so far. Don’t worry if you had gameplay mishaps: Ahri in the League Universe is a mage capable of supportive spells as well as offensive like you guessed. A big theme of hers is that she can steal life essence from her enemies and redirect it towards her allies and herself. Only in LoL the game, she mostly is a mage with passive self-healing. There’s an incredible amount of part from her that you nailed with music alone : she’s quick, playful and flirty, loving and cares for her friends, but she does have a dark side you don’t wanna mess with. One thing that is never mentioned in game lore but in thr spin off game the ruined king Ahri through a nightmare the player sees she had a lover whom she accidentally killed with her magic. She then feared herself for over a hundred years fearing the monster or predator she was.
Like a lot of other commenters have said, "missing" on this one doesn't come down to a misunderstanding on your apart, but instead to slightly different intentions from Riot with regards to this theme. While most character themes come with the character on their release, and thus, try to encapsulate the majority of that character's story in one piece, (like a superhero origin story movie e.g. Spider-Man with Toby Maguire), this piece instead is about Ahri's recent adventures and who she has become and who she wants to be; her character development (much more like Spider-Man: Homecoming with Tom Holland). This is because Ahri was released in December of 2011 (over 11 years ago!), from a time when Riot was trying to release as many champions as possible to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. The vast majority of these champions had deeply underdeveloped lore, aesthetics, and characters, so over the last several years, Riot have been working on updating many of these champions to have the same level of care and effort that have gone into newer champions (this is where you get the likes of present-day Fiddlesticks, Volibear, Mordekaiser, Irelia, Udyr, Pantheon, Kayle & Morgana, etc.) with VGUs (visual/gameplay updates). However, due to her relative simplicity and general appeal, Ahri has remained quite popular, and her gameplay has needed relatively few significant updates, so they decided to go with an ASU (art & sustainability update) for her. All of that long-winded context to say that I don't think you really missed the mark with regards to *current* Ahri. In fact, I would say a lot of the impressions you were doing of her personality indeed do feel like Ahri's flirtatious, caring, playful attributes. As others have said, she has tons and tons of lore behind her. I really did not find Ahri to be interesting whatsoever, based on my interaction with her in League of Legends (prior to her update), until I played the Ruined King game, where she is portrayed more accurate to her current lore, and she is immediately a much more dynamic character. I would highly suggest you play the Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, as it contains a lot of great lore and interesting exploration of League's world. And to sweeten the suggestion, I couldn't forget to mention that the game has incredible music that truly engrosses and envelops you in the world of the game. Thanks for your really great and unique content! I always enjoy watching your League videos! (And I hope someday I'll get to watch you play Outer Wilds too!)
I think you'd also like Neeko's theme. She's not as popular or as important as Ahri when it comes to lore and her role in the world but I think her fun character shines through her music and where she's from in league.
Ahri is based off of the Kumiho/Gumiho of east asian mythology, which is similar to the Kitsune. Ahri did not get a rework but an ASU, essentially receiving new ability icons, mdoels, animations, VFX, SFX, voice-over and splash art. Ahri's ASU is bascially her after the events of the Ruined King game, highly recommend playing it. You can kinda play her support if you know what you're doing.
Kindof out of the blue, and I just wanted to throw it out there, gundam has some really nice orchestral pieces like the lfrith and unicorn launch themes. I'd love to hear what you think on those if you wanted to do a video on them.
Hey hey Marco! I dont know if you will even notice this comment but i would TOTALLY recommend you listening to more Vermintide 2 OSTs. It is very different from Darktide and has some amazing "musical storytelling" or "musical scenery" to it. Like "Escape and panic" which creates... "we are escaping and panicking" feel via something that honest to god sounds like banging on metal pots and pans and somethign that may sound like whistling. Like someone chasing you out of town with the mob, hehe. And it also has viral vikings (no really, they are actually plagued sea raiders. Covikings you can say.) and all the drum beating, horn blowing and even chanting and throat singing that comes with that. And Skaven and their "strings and someone playing a saw" themes. And also surprisingly a great melancholy piece for "Elven Temple" and "Ussingen" aka cheese making town that got pillaged and burned into charred, ashy misery. Ussingen has some great art to its music, as it starts with sad and slow tone, woman voice (?) relaying pain and misery... Then it adds something like a "music that sounds like quiet, agonized souls of the dead"... and then as you ponder the tragedy the viral-vikings drumbeat begins, as if a killer coming to say "I did it."
If you want to hear something that is exactly the opposite of her theme, I would recommend you check Swain's theme, he is also a League champion, legend has it his theme has some very epic opera singing too 😉
You should totally react to Evelynn's login theme, she’s really cool. You should also definitely listen to the Hollow Knight Ost at some point, I highly recommend it
She shares the same VA with Yelan from Genshin Impact (Laura Post), and honestly even if Ahri seems way more gentle than Yelan, they share the same playful vibe !

a rework is when a character is remade based on how it was before with the intention of making it functional in the current state of the game (or sometimes it is done because the character doesn't represent the lore of himself properly)

You need to listen to Valstrax from Monster Hunter Generations, I know for a fact you'd love that song. There's another version from Monster Hunter Rise that has a bit more depth but the Generations version is just amazing.
Just wondering did you watch the Arcane series set in the universe of League of Legends? There are many great tracks that play during the episodes too. First season explored some characters from Piltover/Zaun - you already reacted to Camille's theme so you might find some similarities while watching it (Camille herself isn't in show, at least yet).
Please react to Awaken by league of legends (or react to the instrumental of the song because they put a violin solo in the background and you can hardly hear it with the vocals), or you can react to Playground or Guns for hire, both very unique, Take over is really good as well.

I'm a former league player and Ahri was one of my favorites back then! Yup, that'd be her in my pfp. Thank you for covering her new track! This song really translates her story well. Seeing her old champion spotlight was very nostalgic. I removed myself from that fandom so hard that I heard of her rework but never got to hear the song until now! Would much rather give views to you instead of Riot, so thanks for sharing your thoughts on it!
It's SOOO good, and I think her lore is a great mix of mystery, tragedy, and adventure. She's a good example of a character that isn't necessarily good or evil, but has a life full of a series of events that have shaped her. This music is so gorgeous; to try to paint that picture in song is a tough job.

Ahri's lore is one that has grown outside the overview you read. She has had like a full character arc with seeking her ancestors' history and fearing the monster she sees herself as. That is what her lines to Lillia were about... this theme is definitely her at the end of her current character arc.
You hit the nail on the head! The music feels warm and loving but also quick and adventerous/determined while maintaining elegance. I had goosebumps listening to this for the first time. Gameplay wise, Ahri has become a control mage who focuses on being hard to catch while dealing damage. So your prediction of her being a support dps is closer than the abilities video.
Ahri is prob my second fav character on league if not 1st and i love that you did her rework theme so quickly I was so exicted when i saw this thumbnail and I loved watching you react tothsi and im glad you enjoyed it. Trust me theres a lot more to her lore and who she is and why she ascts the way she does but trust me, some of her lore didnt get changed but added too in this rework and fmo whatr you said in the beggining about what you thought of her the first time u listened to it, almost everything you said was correct about her so thank you for reacting to this piece!
For your next League videos, I really recommend Irelia's, Taliyah's and Neeko's themes. They're some of my favorites and are somewhat similar in style to this one, so I'm positive you'll like them too.

Ahri used to be one of my least favorite design character-wise as she was mostly used as sex appeal, merged with Japanese/Chinese folklore.
Since her new appearance in The Ruined King game, a lot of her personality, reasoning, ambitions, her past, her culture and overall character was fleshed-out. She became one of my favorite champion so far. Don’t worry if you had gameplay mishaps: Ahri in the League Universe is a mage capable of supportive spells as well as offensive like you guessed. A big theme of hers is that she can steal life essence from her enemies and redirect it towards her allies and herself. Only in LoL the game, she mostly is a mage with passive self-healing. There’s an incredible amount of part from her that you nailed with music alone : she’s quick, playful and flirty, loving and cares for her friends, but she does have a dark side you don’t wanna mess with.

I've only played League twice, but I loved Ahri in the "Ruined King" game, and I would compare her as a strong support DPS in that game!

One thing that is never mentioned in game lore but in thr spin off game the ruined king Ahri through a nightmare the player sees she had a lover whom she accidentally killed with her magic. She then feared herself for over a hundred years fearing the monster or predator she was.
So this confirms Marco would've fallen for Ahri's deceptive charms if he was in her universe.
Like a lot of other commenters have said, "missing" on this one doesn't come down to a misunderstanding on your apart, but instead to slightly different intentions from Riot with regards to this theme. While most character themes come with the character on their release, and thus, try to encapsulate the majority of that character's story in one piece, (like a superhero origin story movie e.g. Spider-Man with Toby Maguire), this piece instead is about Ahri's recent adventures and who she has become and who she wants to be; her character development (much more like Spider-Man: Homecoming with Tom Holland). This is because Ahri was released in December of 2011 (over 11 years ago!), from a time when Riot was trying to release as many champions as possible to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. The vast majority of these champions had deeply underdeveloped lore, aesthetics, and characters, so over the last several years, Riot have been working on updating many of these champions to have the same level of care and effort that have gone into newer champions (this is where you get the likes of present-day Fiddlesticks, Volibear, Mordekaiser, Irelia, Udyr, Pantheon, Kayle & Morgana, etc.) with VGUs (visual/gameplay updates). However, due to her relative simplicity and general appeal, Ahri has remained quite popular, and her gameplay has needed relatively few significant updates, so they decided to go with an ASU (art & sustainability update) for her.
All of that long-winded context to say that I don't think you really missed the mark with regards to *current* Ahri. In fact, I would say a lot of the impressions you were doing of her personality indeed do feel like Ahri's flirtatious, caring, playful attributes. As others have said, she has tons and tons of lore behind her. I really did not find Ahri to be interesting whatsoever, based on my interaction with her in League of Legends (prior to her update), until I played the Ruined King game, where she is portrayed more accurate to her current lore, and she is immediately a much more dynamic character. I would highly suggest you play the Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, as it contains a lot of great lore and interesting exploration of League's world. And to sweeten the suggestion, I couldn't forget to mention that the game has incredible music that truly engrosses and envelops you in the world of the game.

I think you'd also like Neeko's theme. She's not as popular or as important as Ahri when it comes to lore and her role in the world but I think her fun character shines through her music and where she's from in league.
Ahri is based off of the Kumiho/Gumiho of east asian mythology, which is similar to the Kitsune. Ahri did not get a rework but an ASU, essentially receiving new ability icons, mdoels, animations, VFX, SFX, voice-over and splash art. Ahri's ASU is bascially her after the events of the Ruined King game, highly recommend playing it. You can kinda play her support if you know what you're doing.
Kindof out of the blue, and I just wanted to throw it out there, gundam has some really nice orchestral pieces like the lfrith and unicorn launch themes. I'd love to hear what you think on those if you wanted to do a video on them.
Hey hey Marco! I dont know if you will even notice this comment but i would TOTALLY recommend you listening to more Vermintide 2 OSTs.
It is very different from Darktide and has some amazing "musical storytelling" or "musical scenery" to it. Like "Escape and panic" which creates... "we are escaping and panicking" feel via something that honest to god sounds like banging on metal pots and pans and somethign that may sound like whistling. Like someone chasing you out of town with the mob, hehe.
And it also has viral vikings (no really, they are actually plagued sea raiders. Covikings you can say.) and all the drum beating, horn blowing and even chanting and throat singing that comes with that.
And Skaven and their "strings and someone playing a saw" themes.
And also surprisingly a great melancholy piece for "Elven Temple" and "Ussingen" aka cheese making town that got pillaged and burned into charred, ashy misery.
Ussingen has some great art to its music, as it starts with sad and slow tone, woman voice (?) relaying pain and misery... Then it adds something like a "music that sounds like quiet, agonized souls of the dead"... and then as you ponder the tragedy the viral-vikings drumbeat begins, as if a killer coming to say "I did it."
Ahri's theme reminds me of Gareth Coker's work on the Ori and the Blind Forest soundtrack.
If you want to hear something that is exactly the opposite of her theme, I would recommend you check Swain's theme, he is also a League champion, legend has it his theme has some very epic opera singing too 😉

I would love it if you try to guess Braum because his music is not only very good but reflects pretty well on his character.
You should totally react to Evelynn's login theme, she’s really cool.
You should also definitely listen to the Hollow Knight Ost at some point, I highly recommend it
She shares the same VA with Yelan from Genshin Impact (Laura Post), and honestly even if Ahri seems way more gentle than Yelan, they share the same playful vibe !

Just wondering did you watch the Arcane series set in the universe of League of Legends? There are many great tracks that play during the episodes too. First season explored some characters from Piltover/Zaun - you already reacted to Camille's theme so you might find some similarities while watching it (Camille herself isn't in show, at least yet).
