They said that MANIC (the song) was an absolute hitpiece and I swear to god, their label probably pushed them into that direction. But on the way they lost ther technicality and intensity; I just listened to pressure after that and even though the album has some black sheeps - there is just something about the older ones that feel more vibrant. Here just endlessly repeating choruses and power chords and they barely scratch the 3 minute mark with most songs. A few bangers, but the whole album is over so fast, its crazy, i felt NOTHING.
Thanks for the reaction! I just commented yesterday asking for this video. Tombstone's Slayer riff is sick and is the best heavy song on the album. Happy Hunting sounds like Rob Zombie. In My Blood wasn't good at first, but it grew on me and has great potential played live. I prefer if they went Manic mixed with Slayer riffs. If they have softer songs, they have to hit emotionally. Blur has the best production overall even if it is very poppy. Hellbent is a classic Pressure Wage War song, and it does alright. This album is all over the place in terms of style. It does well with some songs, but others are a complete miss. I'm not a fan of the Five Finger Death Punch corny lyrics in the heavy songs. Is This How It Ends had a lot of potential emotionally, but they just throw the final chorus in without any build-up or suspense to captive anyone. Imagine a quiet part in that song similar to Youngblood. The outro is emptiness when it should've had clean vocals to properly wrap up the song. The album should've been longer and they could've cut out some ideas they had to strengthen a specific style for this record.
I really didn't like Manic on first listen, but it grew on me drastically, and i love it now. This album is not going to be like that. It feels like it was made in a factory.
I'm new to wage war so I thought this album was kinda decent until I decided to check out their previous albumsm I now understand why people really disliked this
I for one am incredibly surprised you vibe with In My Blood, especially with the Swampcore breakdown🤣 I like Blur and Is This How It Ends for Cody's vocals, I really enjoy his cleans. This album is sooooo all over the place. Forced breakdowns in songs where it's very unnecessary, breakdowns that don't really fit the rest of the songs. Overall its like a 6/10. It's fine.
This was my first Wage War album, and I actually really liked it. Definitely not my favorite of metal music (Nothing More, I Prevail, From Ashes To New, and We Came As Romans are some bands I love a lot). However, I did enjoy a pretty large amount of the album, and I can definitely hear the potential behind their sound.
Like you said, my individual judgment/opinion on the new work doesn’t matter that much. It’ll be probably do just fine in popularity and streams, and I’m glad for them for that. But to me, these new songs don’t feel genuine at all. Of course you can’t expect them to make Blueprints 2 or Deadweight 2.0, but this does not bring any of the feelings I have had with previous WW songs.
Dude, this review is just so on point with how I feel. Like, not only with this album but with the band as a whole. Blueprints? Banger. Deadweight? Banger and probably my favorite from them. Pressure? Mid and the new direction was being taken. Manic? For me, an uptick from Pressure but with songs I’d skip. But this? Holy fuck, this is the worst, most uninspired collection of songs they have ever released. Just add em to the list with Architects, Parkway Drive, and The Ghost Inside because we’re probably done getting quality metal releases from them.
I don’t understand why metalheads get their panties in a twist when a band dare step out of the norm for the genre; it’s like they get offended because the band went outside the imaginary box they set for them. I love all genres, metal happens to be the one I lean towards the most. This album has a good mix of everything, Manic is still my favorite but this is growing on me.
What I learned about this album and what Wage War is doing is that you have to give it time and get used to it. After listening to the album about 3 times I learned to like some of the songs like hellbent and in my blood.
Unfortunately for me WW are like The Word Alive. Peaked in the first two albums , put out another 5 after that and never got close after which is a real shame.
i actually enjoy this album because my sense of taste is fucked but what pisses me off the most is Briton is trying some different cool vocal shit like a few gnarly highs and actual gutturals and then the album sounds like this
I actually like it much more than the 2nd and 4th album. I like this experimental fast forward rock.....I know I know not.much metalcore....but what they did there instrumental wise is so fresh....and some punchlines are incredible and the songs are catchy after one and a half days.
@@Travis-y2w I'm not a fan of Wage War at all, I like them thanks to songs like Youngbloods or Twenty-One at the first place, but yes I don't mind Blur. I'm not ruining anything, music is subjective, and if I'm not mistaken I think that they are doing this for them before everyone else, since it's a consensus within the band that it's their best work to date (and for what it's worth : I don't think that it's indeed their best album at all) Anyway, let people like what they want without telling them that they are ruining a band for one or another reason, there are way more important things to worry about rn ;)
@@Travis-y2w when I said that I just wanted to let you know that I think it's pointless to bother a person this way just for a musical opinion, you should focus on your own stuff. I'm down to discuss about music because I love that, but you seem very close minded to be honest. Again, Blur is like the only song on the album with Tombstone that I can say I liked, and for Blur, is just because of the chorus that I find great (yes, even if it's poppy af). This album and all of these songs are NOT what I love at all ! I'm just trying to be positive and open minded when I can because there are always good elements to catch. For exemple, I tried (very hard) to catch things I can like concerning the new Architects album and I found nothing, and it's okay ! I don't think that when a band make a disappointing album it's the end, there are plenty of exemples of bands that came back with a better album, maybe it will be the case for Wage War. Anyway : cheers 🥂
Where did the sudden hate for Wage War come from? I've not seen many reactions to this album, yet, the MOMENT KL or BMTH release, there's dozens of reactions up within 2 hours. Makes zero sense did Wage War do something that warrants the hate?
To me, the issue is the copy and paste song structures and the mix on the last few albums. Heavy breakdowns and clean catchy choruses aren’t the problem (that’s actually my preference) but these seem robotic and generic. There is a little variety, but most songs on Manic and Stigma have had the same structure, down to the chorus outro being the literal song title being sang/screamed into the riff. Riffs are cool, Breakdowns are heavy, choruses are catchy, but they all sounds the same and the mix is so overproduced that nothing is unique and it all sounds the same. Throwing the same things into every song doesn’t fit. Deadweight stylistically was unique. It had breakdowns and catchy choruses and nice riffs, but it had personality and grit without being overproduced. Every song sounded different yet cohesive. The “I don’t feel anything” is spot on.
Theres some notably good parts in some of the songs but they aren't enough for me to to listen to the entire song again for. Theyve gone too "radio safe" for my taste unfortunately
Real musicians want to change and continue to make new and different music, I think that this album has its flaws, but is still great, I also think that this style is a precursor to something better to come.
Same, when it dropped I really liked it actually, and I'm someone who obsessed over the first two albums, I think this album is either a hit or miss depending on your taste, you like it or you hate it. I will admit there are a few songs on the album that kind of mush together in my mind when trying to remember them but I still enjoy them. Was so surprised when I got online and saw the hate but I can understand it tho.
We have some differing opinions when it comes to all of your new wage war reactions. What are some new music you actually do like? Maybe some suggestions.
A issue i have is i feel like the lyrics were created around the title of the songs. Instead of writing songs and then comin up with a title, its like they came up with the title first with the added a stipulation that they need to include the title in the lyrics of the song and then created the lyrics and then song. I'll listen to the album maybe here and there but i was more surprised the album when i finshed the album instead of being hooked on by songs. The mid break down in "In My Blood" was the only repeatable thing for me
This is why for years I’ve been telling people that nothing will ever top the 2008-2013 metalcore era, not only the productions were way more punchy and heavy but it was also the peak creativity in metalcore without everone doing the exact same architectcore badomen core garbage.
I do kinda agree with production feeling a bit stale and most songs feeling... mmm... not generic per se, but kinda boring nonetheless, despite having elements I'd usually enjoy? But I actually do enjoy HAPPY HUNTING a lot - it's pretty fun, catchy and kinda reminds me of banger racing soundtracks. But that's pretty much the only track I see myself coming back to throughout the year. I also thought that Magnetic, Tombstone and In My Blood are quite alright. Nail5 I liked initially but now don't feel much abt it. And I didn't really vibe with anything else off that record. This might've worked better as a short EP tbh, because although it's not horrendous - it kinda lacks personality and cohesion imo.
I think the album is ok. First of all, it is hard to beat the expectations after Manic. They tried to explore the new sound established in Manic, but it didn't really hit the spot. Another thing which is significantly different from Manic is the number of catchy songs/choruses/riffs. I listened to Stigma today and it kinda hard to recall anything except the intro with its "wall to wall" and chorus to Magnetic and la-la-la song. With Manic, each or at least almost every song had an identity. Relapse, Teeth, Manic, True Colors, High Horse, etc. As I said, not bad, but there is a lot of room for improvement and I am curious to see what comes next.
I think if they went with that more Industrial metal sound on the first 2 songs then it would've been a more cohesive listen, the main issue is they try mixing a newer sound, with the more ballad type songs, while still trying to be stupidly heavy and it doesn't really work imo
they should have called this album ''Dissociative identity disorder'' because this is all over the fucking place

I'm new to wage war so I thought this album was kinda decent until I decided to check out their previous albumsm I now understand why people really disliked this
I for one am incredibly surprised you vibe with In My Blood, especially with the Swampcore breakdown🤣
I like Blur and Is This How It Ends for Cody's vocals, I really enjoy his cleans.
I can't believe this is the band that made Blueprints
I actually really enjoyed this album, got me groovin
I agree
I don’t understand why metalheads get their panties in a twist when a band dare step out of the norm for the genre; it’s like they get offended because the band went outside the imaginary box they set for them. I love all genres, metal happens to be the one I lean towards the most. This album has a good mix of everything, Manic is still my favorite but this is growing on me.
@@Nero-Forte99there's a difference between different and meh
All my favorite bands dropping balls on albums this year.
"Happy Hunting" sounds like "When Worlds Collide" by Powerman 5000
What I learned about this album and what Wage War is doing is that you have to give it time and get used to it. After listening to the album about 3 times I learned to like some of the songs like hellbent and in my blood.
I’m grateful for honest reaction
7:46 has me in tears. 😭😂
Unfortunately for me WW are like The Word Alive. Peaked in the first two albums , put out another 5 after that and never got close after which is a real shame.
I honestly think this album rips. it's so good
It sounds like modern day hair metal, it feels kinda goofy to listen to.
It’s terrible
The title of this video alone...same brotha', same.
Liked the album, decent in my opinion. Appreciate the transparency in your review. Kudos!
i actually enjoy this album because my sense of taste is fucked but what pisses me off the most is Briton is trying some different cool vocal shit like a few gnarly highs and actual gutturals and then the album sounds like this
I actually like it much more than the 2nd and 4th album. I like this experimental fast forward rock.....I know I know not.much metalcore....but what they did there instrumental wise is so fresh....and some punchlines are incredible and the songs are catchy after one and a half days.
The fact you think this shit is better than deadweight is so fucking brain dead it’s insane
Blur is actually pretty good, it grows on me quite fast, great chorus
@@Travis-y2w I'm not a fan of Wage War at all, I like them thanks to songs like Youngbloods or Twenty-One at the first place, but yes I don't mind Blur. I'm not ruining anything, music is subjective, and if I'm not mistaken I think that they are doing this for them before everyone else, since it's a consensus within the band that it's their best work to date (and for what it's worth : I don't think that it's indeed their best album at all)
Anyway, let people like what they want without telling them that they are ruining a band for one or another reason, there are way more important things to worry about rn ;)
This entire album was so lifeless. I’m pretty shocked about this coming from WW
As someone who does not enjoy Wage War at all, this is actually really good imo
It seems like Briton Bond is holding back, he should do a side project and really let his screams shine.
Anybody remember blueprints? That was peak. Pepperidge farm remembers
happy hunting is giving rob zombie
I'd go back to MANIC. I can listen to more songs off that album that still hold up.
Not a SINGLE blegh on the whole album. My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined
I really like Self Sacrifice, Blur, In My Blood (from the new songs)
Wage war has hit the fit for a king phase
No this is that architectcore badomencore garbage that became trendy in 2021
Where did the sudden hate for Wage War come from? I've not seen many reactions to this album, yet, the MOMENT KL or BMTH release, there's dozens of reactions up within 2 hours. Makes zero sense did Wage War do something that warrants the hate?
I think manic is their best album but don’t shoot me lol
I think manic was the album they fitted best with and yeah I agree.Doesnt stop blueprints and deadweight from being gold though
Manic was a huge banger of an album for me, I was really expecting something from this album. I am disappointed for sure x)
Real musicians want to change and continue to make new and different music, I think that this album has its flaws, but is still great, I also think that this style is a precursor to something better to come.
This is their St.Anger.
St. Anger is at least original and "unsafe", but I partially understand it, metallica then also tried to show some "heavy"
interesting comparison
It's very different, and I like it. But I can understand how people don't like it.
I’m not an elitist that needs every album to sound the fucking same, so I’m fine with the change, I enjoyed the album so same haha
@nicholasblessing1907 enjoy your trash
The mid break down in "In My Blood" was the only repeatable thing for me
Doom and Sleep Token has done irreparable damage to the creativity of the metal scene
Further proof that the big dogs of the metalcore scene are slowly losing it.
We must return to the underground to search for fresh new sounds.
Try Still Stayer, No Eye Has Seen and What Lies Below (just to name a few). I really like their work (Still Stayer especially)
Basically what Thrown is doing. Those dudes are killing it right now.
This is why for years I’ve been telling people that nothing will ever top the 2008-2013 metalcore era, not only the productions were way more punchy and heavy but it was also the peak creativity in metalcore without everone doing the exact same architectcore badomen core garbage.
@@saltyshrimppastawhat lies below is beyond incredible
I agree Thrown is good, try Bleed From Within! Their my favorite band in years.
Most repetitive album I've ever seen bro😭 When Bogdan said he was not a fan of Self Sacrifice I was like bro. You will NOT like the rest😂💀
Blur sounds like a starset song😂😂
It's like they took all modern metal-core elements and try to squeeze everything into one album.
I expected to hate this and while it isn’t the worst thing ever it feels like no enjoyment was had making it lol
I think if they went with that more Industrial metal sound on the first 2 songs then it would've been a more cohesive listen, the main issue is they try mixing a newer sound, with the more ballad type songs, while still trying to be stupidly heavy and it doesn't really work imo
I also feel like a more industrial sound would suit the band. At least it would be more interesting than this.
