After the Burial does it better though. ATB grooves like no other. I'd much rather listen to literally any ATB album than this Wage War album. It's not a good sign if the best track on the album sounds like a different band entirely.

Ever since I opened Wage War, I'm a huge fan.
I can agree that they sound pretty typical for metalcore but for me they've mastered it. I really like the blend of calm and banger songs every album.
Experiments are good, but some times you need some good old metalcore, that where Wage War perfectly fits in for me.

Honestly, I love the album. Not one song i do not like but i am more into the generic feel. One thing i will say though is that i generally do not listen to songs that only have screams. I usually like the poppy cleans and so on but Death roll i just cannot stop listening to. There is just something about that song that gets me going. Along with High Horse. But for me, well done Wage War. It is generic but i am into that very much like Memphis May Fire. Very generic and very predictable but... bands like wage war and MMF are the best at this type of generic sound in my opinion so i will gladly accept and play on repeat. I respect your opinion though. I think most of your viewers will and should accept that this is just not your thing so keep doing what you do. It is great content.

I definitely agree with your review. Death Roll was by far my favorite. And it’s not the fact it’s heavy, but it just feels so much more metal than the others. • @greyknightlord175

I personally like the album very much. Why? I think the band just continued to develop the last album "Pressure", although I think this album is even harder than Pressure. The album has really cool neck breakers Death Roll, High Horse and also very good metal ballads like Slow Burn and Never Say Goodbye, which still have good break downs. But honestly, what do you expect from Wage War? Great breakdowns, beautiful melodies and songs that jump and pop in your face. And that's exactly what this album has. We clearly have a further development of the band from the last album, which I personally found very awesome. What also fascinates me about this band is that the two singers complement each other perfectly and just do a great job. You can still find comparable cool things at Bury Tomorrow. I would therefore like to hold up the flag for this album and just tell you that the album is great fun and that you can access it without hesitation. Greetings from Germany.

I also feel that Wage has been in the game longer, in terms of what people deem as the flagships of metalcore. By no means am i undermining the success of either band. Though it is Spiritbox’s first album, one that got a lot coverage and a lot of people like. Doesn’t happen often. I feel Manic is not as bland metalcore as some are saying. You can see where they want to diverge in terms of production and even some song writing.
I don’t feel like it was quite enough to impress people. Wage has done most of this before, and I feel like that’s why people are deeming it “bland.” My literal biggest criticism on the entire album is just the choruses. Not that they’re objectively badly written, but they cookie-cutter them so much. High Horse, Manic, and Death Roll step away from those choruses and you see most often those are the highlights for people. Just an interesting point in my eyes

This album makes me sad, cause this band had the components to be amazing. Briton has phenomenal harsh vocals. Cody’s voice is beautiful. The drums are punchy, and the guitars are beefy. But most of what they compose is straight out of a formula, one that I don’t think they’ve done better since Blueprints

  • @Iamkeegan
    @Iamkeegan 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think you have a very valid point. They used to be so cutting edge at the time of Blueprints and them being fresh really helped them. But them putting out the exact same record four times is kinda old. And don't get me wrong, I love every single song they've put out. There's not one miss. But when it all sounds so similar all the time for 5 or so years it gets kinda repetitive. I feel like they'll really start to fall off if they don't bring something new and great and innovative with their next record. *Don't get this mixed up cause Wage War is literally like Top 3 bands of all time for me and I've been a fan since literally the day Blueprints came out and I saw them on Warped in 16 so there is absolutely no hate in this comment*

I fully understand that there are people who like the heavier songs rather than melodic and lyrical rock songs even if there are heavy metal guitar riffs and breakdowns within them. But I also believe that it adds a level of comfortability for people who aren’t as experienced in a rock genre. It’s not that bands are getting softer it’s just that bands are trying to appeal to a much bigger Audience like they should. Look I live in Chicago and I haven’t met a single person who listens to this kind of music. It’s a dying genre atleast in my eyes so if a major change like melody needs to be introduced then why not. I think this album was a huge fucking success through and through. I’ve personally experienced this album seem somewhat of substance to people who Mainly listens to rap or edm

Agreed. Too many reactions channels just pretend to like everything so they can get as many followers from different fanbases as possible. So annoying. This channel and metalbirb are among the few that give honest and sincere opinions

I’m honestly super late to the party but I discovered this album today and had to know what you thought about it. I agree this is generic metalcore and not ground breaking by any means, but I genuinely jammed it all day because it’s still high quality imo :) If tomorrow never comes hits that sweet spot of nostalgia damn

Honestly, what we need is another album like Blueprints or Deadweight, mostly Blueprints because it’s the BEST album from Wage War (in my opinion), this was a pretty good album, but nothing as good like Deadweight or Blueprints

I feel they would improve a lot if the unclean vocalist had more range with gutterals and such, and less verse chorus structure. Like 4 choruses in a song is too much, only 2 is really needed. Like their song Alive only had one clean vocal section and it was perfect.

Wage War is going through the stage of a lot of metal bands rn. They're going for some commercial success and are trying to grow their fanbase it looks like. I think it's a good album, but I think unless they go full butt rock, this is will probably be the poppiest album they put out. Beartooth and A Day To Remember are doing it as well. Plus I think I'd prefer they go for more catchy hooks ever so often since hooks are definitely what get you more radio play these days. Just my opinion. It's a good album.

My favorite songs are songs that take you for journeys throughout with what happens musically, so I gravitate toward bands like ABR, Periphery, Currents... but hey my music knowledge isnt all that expansive so throw me bands that make each song a journey!

The worst thing about Death Roll is it single handedly proves that WW are still super capable of writing top tier metalcore. Yes it’s heavier, but High horse is also heavy but isn’t anywhere near as good (i still enjoy it, it’s catchy af but in terms of writing, Death Roll is levels above) I also thought Manic was a very good song tbf, is fresh and stands out a lot especially vocally, also that groove at the end is so much like Loathe - New faces in the dark, just can’t not love it

Here’s the thing about this album: it’s been done. Hear me out though, please. You were right about feeling like you’ve heard some of the songs before even if you hadn’t. That’s because they have fine tuned that particular style of metalcore. It’s different than the example I’m abo to use, but it reminds me of the way within the ruins sounds exactly the same every album. Like I swore they were reusing the same riffs. Now I know WW aren’t, but that’s the feel. With that being said, it’s still one of the best albums I’ve ever heard bc of how talented they are. I wish they did a little more funky stuff like manic the song. More new metal style of metal core. It’s still a 92/100 tho. Incredible. Took a big turn from the approach of pressure and I find that weird. I expected this one to be trash even tho pressure was phenomenal for a mainstream approach. I just figured they’d keep slipping down that slope but they didn’t. They went heavier. I find that awesome. I can pick a quistad riff out of a bag of a thousand riffs when it comes to his signature style. Love them though, they’re killing it. And I can’t wait to see them live for the third time and hear them crush this album.

I think my biggest issues with Wage Wars latest albums are just how much "filler" is present. IMO they rely too much on the breakdown to carry the song and make it memorable which leads to quite a large amount (although not all) of the main riffs and hooks ending up quite samey.
I'm not trashing on them, it obviously works for a large amount of people or they wouldn't be as popular as they are. But for me, if the breakdown doesn't end up a certified banger, the song gets lost in a sea of triplet chugs and nasally hooks.
I wouldn't say they have many, if any, bad songs but they've got a lot of generic songs. It might just be nostalgia but when I go back to their first two albums, they feel so much more impactful and I can almost instantly identify the song when shuffled or on a playlist with hundreds of artists.
Compared that with Pressure and almost 3 years later, I still struggle to distinguish any track other than Low.

You pretty much summed up my opinion of the album. Like, Wage War makes some very solid tracks, but like you said....they all kinda sound the same. I get that bands have their own sound, but when I heard Teeth after Relapse, I would of believed that it was just another part of Relapse. The mainstream elements is also a factor too. Normally I'm totally okay with mainstream metalcore, but with Wage War, it just feels a bit too mainstream with a majority of the songs. Which is fine, it's not like bands HAVE to be unique, it's just what you prefer listening too. The guys are ridiculously talented, and I hope they keep making the music that they enjoy making.
All that being said, I didn't hate the album, there were a few songs that I did really enjoy, but overall....aside from Manic, none of the songs really stood out to me. Death Roll was different, but wasn't for me personally (maybe a few more listens will change that). The softer songs were good, but sounded very...I don't wanna say 'standard', but that's the best word I can think of. 6/10 album for me.

I'm gonna have to give this a listen on my own time because the breakdowns are CRUSHING but I'm not a 2009 13 year old. The "I wanna be Rush" emo vocals may fully sour it for me.

The album is super meh to me. Death roll, high horse, relapse, and if tomorrow never comes were the standouts to be. I actually hate the title track. Idk what it is but it's just... Weird. Also the production on this album is strange. The guitars sound programmed, almost like a synth and not a guitar.
