      Thank you very much Stephen, it really does mean a lot. It’s certainly been an eye opener today. We had a defibrillator installed at my local park, it was community funded through fundraisers, it’s a working class town but everyone mucked in, within 2 days it was broken into and destroyed by youngsters. We have to get education programmes in schools to not just teach young people what they need to do but just how vital it is for our safety. For this to happen so soon after it just made me feel a strange feeling today, but I also felt really proud of the supporters who helped and the sheer compassion that has saved this woman’s life. It makes me feel a lot safer, when I travel to games on my own. Thank you again for your kind words.

    • @stephenc2022
      @stephenc2022 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@stuntpeggnieve absolutely, the way to solve these long term is to educate future generations on why they're needed, and also to train them on how to use them as part of day to day life, because as we saw at the game, you never know when they could be needed.
      It's definitely an issue here in Newcastle, I remember when I went to school we never had CPR training or anything, we only learnt about it from a science perspective, I had to train myself, and it shouldn't be that way. I'm sure there's similar issues elsewhere in the country.
      Petitions and working with charities who specialise in this is something we all need to pay attention to in our communities and get involved with where possible, something I certainly want to do, especially after the Euros and indeed after the game.

      You’re right, thankfully every stadium in the football leagues have defibrillators thankfully, and so I do believe we are best equipped to deal with these crisis situations at the football, and with more and more donations to grassroots that’s great. I now think training and donating defibrillators to local parks, sports clubs etc is essential to get that 1 in 10 survival rate where it should be. Follow by Denmark’s example.

    As an NUFC fan who was at St James’ your assessment of us as a club/fans is spot on.
    Re the incident, being at the other end of the ground it was hard to see/know what was happening other than there being a medical emergency. I was getting calls and texts asking what’s happening, I had no idea, probably people at home had more idea. There definitely needs to be more defibrillators around at all levels. The defibrillator came from the NUFC club doctor. We’d probably benefit from having a few defibrillator stations in the stands, and there’s definitely an issue about them at lower and non league clubs too.

    As an FYI for anyone who wasn’t aware on the topic of what happened with the fan after the end of October it’s now going to be a requirement for all SIA licence holders (security personnel) to have Emergency first aid training which includes CPR. Now obviously the Defibs should be in every ground the fact that it isn’t in every ground is genuinely shocking to me. But now with all security staff having to be trained in CPR it can hopefully help to keep people alive & as well as can be until proper medical attention can be given to them.

    You made a valid point there. At St James, for example, there are around 53,000 supporters. It's quite likely, on occasion, that someone may fall ill. A lot of emphasis is put on the players, but more needs to be done to ensure the safety of everyone. Well done to the players for quickly reacting to this and for the both club physios to get involved. The question is, what would have happened if those players didn't stop? Worrying.

      If I was Graham Potter I would be very tempted. I do agree that the mainstream media has been disrespectful, and it is not easy for Steve Bruce to listen to fans chanting for his sacking and watch the journalists countdown him losing his job, but from the Newcastle supporter’s perspectives, it’s been a long time coming and they have many reasons to back it.

      @@stuntpeggnieve potter is probably not going to leave Brighton the way things are going for them at the moment but as a spurs fan I’m just happy that we are scoring goals again because it’s been a inconsistent start and hopefully this is the real turning point for our season

    1 out of 1 Newcastle owners have tortured and murdered a Washington Post journalist. Maybe 100's more.

      @I like RedRum Oohh! I've hit a nerve. They are mass murderers. Also they did a hit job on a journalist. Do your research. Truth hurts baby boy.

    Love your passion. I sit in the opposite corner (strawberry corner or "The Corner") and I'm into my 35th season as a season ticket holder - been going since I was 5. You hit the nail on the head with our expectations - we just want our team to compete and give it a go and see where we end up - we want nights in Milan again where we take 12,000 fans - we just want to dream and we have that chance again. Next time you're in the toon let me know if you fancy a match debrief or free parking outside the city (with a metro trip in). You might go to matches alone, but there's always a friend in a Geordie 😉
