My Hilariously Cheap, Turbocharged S10 V6 (5 speed!)

  • **UPDATE TO THE INJECTOR SITUATION:
    Do NOT attempt to plumb into this kind of injector the way they are seen in this video. It is not secure enough. The best (cheap) way to connect a fuel supply to these injectors is to retain a stub of the stock hard nylon fuel line where it pushes into the injector. The plastic tubing is rigid enough that you can slide a piece of fuel injection line over the outside of it and clamp over the plastic line. This is how you will see them mounted in future videos)**
    Well, I guess I can say a successful Alpha build has finally been reached with the turbo conversion on my beater pickup.
    I still have a lot of tuning to do, but it is ridiculous what this monetarily worthless cobbled mass of parts has been able to achieve so far, wood and all.
    Stock GMC syclone turbocharger and exhaust manifolds were purchased 2nd hand for $300. Stock "spider" intake with the later-style injectors. 2 extra spider injectors clamped into a modified throttle body spacer.
    second-hand Greddy Emanage Blue for my seconary injector control.

    *update!!*
    The S10 has changed a fair amount, after being down for a while. ford 8.8" rear swap has been completed, and I am working on a modified Edelbrock intake manifold to eventually get some big hefty injectors mounted. The truck has been stable running at 4 PSI for quite some time. I'll try to work on a new video soon. Thanks for watching!

      Cool truck dude. I was wondering if maybe you ran 3 1/2" inch dual exhaust out to the rear end of the truck, and with a H or X pipe somewhere in the middle you might get that turbo boost up to 10 psi. An exhaust system like I'm talking about would definitely increase your horsepower a little bit. I don't know much about turbos or whether a bigger exhaust would allow you to run more boost pressure. However, I think it makes sense that it would work like that. Either way you've still got a bad ass truck. 👍😁

      Look up marine fuel zip ties it'll hold anything that and fuel pump will put out. I'm giving a serious look at putting a turbo on my 2.2 99 S10 I just need an extra hundred horsepower to tell my boat that's all I care about. I turned a wrench for years and years. I'm actually a boat mechanic by trade but I also work on my own vehicles. I know nothing about turbos so this is all new to me.

    So it is a spider injection system. You just added extra injectors and injector system, to accommodate for the extra fuel needed, for boost?

    • @DefenistrationAlley
      @DefenistrationAlley  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Basically correct. The Greddy Emanage controller monitors both RPM and throttle position, and commands the injectors to add fuel when the rpm climbs high enough to spool the turbo, and the throttle position is far enough open to be generating boost. In the long run this system alone with an untuned ECU has proven inadequate, as the Greddy controller is unable to make sense of the GM ignition signal and provide timing modification under boost.

      Because there are no bigger injectors that work with this particular intake manifold. Look up the vortec "spider" injection. This has the updated injectors, but they are unique in their form factor and they are inside the plenum. Most people that attempt to turbocharge these engines find a mercruiser marine intake that accepts traditional injectors, or buys an edelbrock 2114 dual-plane carb manifold and has injector bungs welded in to the runners. I had neither the money to spend on a new intake or the HP tuners suite at the moment. And with a free Emanage from a friend, I thought why the hell not give this a try.
