Wow, that came out amazing! Would be definitely cool to do some shots in an abandoned house. Thanks for sharing the whole process, including the problem solving bits. When you pointed out the challenge with sleeves, that had we puzzled as well. As others mentioned, I think you can oil sissers. I’ve done it in the past at least, for the same reason you have. I used very thin machinists oil, the same you would use for a sewing machine. Thanks again madam M!
Thank you! This was definitely the hardest thing I’ve made to date. Thanks for the oil tip, I need to actually learn how to look after my machine properly anyway so I will definitely get some 🖤
Yes you can oil your scissors but rub it after so it doesn’t leave marks. I do it on a regular basis just as I do my machine tune up every month. Nice work! I love everything you do
Thank you that’s so helpful! Is there a specific type to use or doesn’t it matter? I really need to learn how to do maintenance on my machine, I’ve been putting it off cause I’m scared I’ll break it but it’s getting so dusty inside 😬
this is so beautiful and amazing and impressive!!! i do want to point out, to hopefully minimize some of your self criticism, that the real sleeves of the 1890s & the movie had padding in the shoulders! it wasn’t jsut the fabric used, they straight up had padding stuffed in there / boning/ wire/ lots of tricks to keep it as poofy. so all you’d need to do is add some poof inside your sleeves instead of remaking in a “nicer fabric” as you alluded to- i think this one is great!!!
@@MadameMyriad I reckon you’re creative enough. You would do an awesome job plus it would be cool to see dressed up in full makeup. Pluss all the beading and head dress would be right up your alley. Please try it would be epic
I have very obsessively already mapped my year of projects out but maybe one day 😅 Honestly I think it’ll go in my list of ones I want to do but want to wait until I have the budget to go all in with it!
@@MadameMyriad I look forward to your projects Dracula can wait. You’re very creative and you’re fun to watch thank you for all your hard work. I’m not into sowing or coss play but enjoy watching the creative process. 👍
Aw thank you again! 😊 I’m glad you like this one too! Although I’m aware there are problems with this dress, I am really pleased with how it turned out!
I've been self-doubt-procrastinating finishing my 1860s corset for 3 whole weeks, and watching you work through and problem solve has given me the inspiration to finally cut into my precious coutil. Thanks so much for the video and what a fantastic dress!! seriously well done :]
Thank you, I didn’t touch this project for almost two weeks at one point because I couldn’t figure out the sleeves for the life of me! Good luck with your corset, I’d be interested to hear how the project goes🖤
Thank you 🥰 I’d be lying if I said it was easy, the sleeves were definitely the hardest part for me! So worth the struggle though, you should go for it 🖤
Yay! 30 minutes! (3 minutes into it and throughly enjoying it! You're adorable :) Ps. Oh, I see Sebastian the Hedgehog in the background! So cute! I still want to find a figurine like him for my garden!!
At some point, you mentioned your ADHD, and I was like: « HA! I KNEW IT!! ». It takes neurodivergent person to recognize another. 😜 My own ADHD wins over me all the time! 😂 Especially when I’m supposed to be working on some translation (I’m an English to French translator), but it’s really boring. So many cute cat videos, so little time! 😅 Also, I really love that costume on you, with the wig and all. So pretty! 💖
I’m not sure to be honest, the gap between the gathers was pretty big to get the right effect so I don’t think a machine could have done that. Plus I genuinely suck at machine gathering, I have never successfully done it, ever… I always snap the threads so I’ve pretty much accepted I’ll always do them by hand 😂
Thank you, that’s means so much, I’ve been really nervous about how long it was & Lord no! I could barely move in it without the buttons coming undone 😂 the shoot was not easy - I always questioned how she slept in it in the film 😄
@@MadameMyriad Actually realized that it was probably not possible to sleep in after I asked that, the train is so long! My first cosplay was last Summer. I drafted and recreated Maria's nightgown from 1965 The Sound of Music! A dream come true as I have always wanted a nightgown! Love it so much and it is so relaxing to sleep in! Just took it off the line before it rains. Nothing more refreshing than sleeping in a sun-kissed, air-dried nightgown!
That sounds so nice! It’s on my long term list to make a fancy historical nightgown and robe that is actually practical to use afterwards, I have no idea why but I’ve always wanted some 😄
:) Oh and thank you for showing a good bit of you smocking! There is a dress I would love to recreate but didn't really know how to do hand stocking, ironing it to hold the pleats in place is what I didn't realize to do! So, thanks! Happy sewing.

Same oil as for your sewing machine
Thank you, I appreciate the advice x

Thank you 🖤 it did?! Well that makes me feel a hell of a lot better 😄
You should make Lucy’s wedding dress out of Bram stroker Dracula.. that would be so cool and I reckon you would smash it out of the park.
That would be an ambitious one, the fabric sourcing alone 😅 Could be really cool to get creative with shooting though!

I actually saw this nightgown in person at the LACMA Museum a few years ago! It has all the red stains on it still.
I’m so jealous! That must have been amazing 😍
Nice! You eventually figured out the weird shape of 1890s sleeves! Theyre hard to figure out without looking at a drafting manual
Just barely, hard doesn’t begin to describe how it felt doing those sleeves 😅
The dress came out amazing! I've wanted to try and make this myself too, but the process seems daunting!

Awesome results! Love it! ❤️
Thank you 🖤
Could the machine do rows of those loose stitches and then you can tighten them to gather, so you don’t have to spend days doing it by hand?
I’m not sure to be honest, the gap between the gathers was pretty big to get the right effect so I don’t think a machine could have done that.

I really want to learn how to do some of the more complex patterns in smocking, think I’ll buy a book on it soon and work it into projects
