I Tried to Make an Edwardian Corset (& only cried a little)

  • This Edwardian Corset dam near broke me 😂 Probably the most skilled sewing project I have attempted thus far and boy was I not ready for it.
    I used the TVE01 1903 Edwardian Corset pattern from Truly Victorian, it was actually fantastic and had great instructions, all mishaps were entirely down to my lack of sewing ability.
    Combining this corset with the other Edwardian Undergarments I had previously made means that I have no completed my Edwardian Silhouette to make my MET Gala dress in my next video! Hope to se you all there! 🥰

    I think you should make the heart shaped bust improver - with frilly lace and eyelet lace with ribbon to match the combinations. So pretty!

      Believe me, looking back I know I definitely should have basted some of the trickier parts of this 😂 unfortunately I’m chronically impatient so I will admit I made the executive decision to think it was fine if I just didn’t baste those parts during the make 😬

    I watched one of your crown videos the other day, less than two weeks ago. I noted you had around 1.7k subs. That's some crazy exponential growth (3.19k at time of comment)! But you clearly deserve it; your production value, knowledge, vision are all spot on. I hope to make a crown before the end of the year - I can't even imagine making an edwardian corset! I think I'll start with regency 😅It's cool to see such a great channel at/near the beginning, can't wait to be inspired by it and see it grow along the way!

      Aw thank you! That means so much to hear, genuinely! 🖤 The last two weeks of growth have been a little overwhelming to be honest, and I really wasn’t sure what the reception would be to this video as most people here came from the crowns 😬 but honestly the kind words make me feel a lot better, I was so anxious about publishing this one 😂🖤🖤

    I'm currently delving a bit more seriously into corset making and I 've started to accept the idea the I don't need much waist reduction and started to focus on making the pattern comfortable first and foremost so instead of scaling my corsets up and down evenly I started to nip in the waist and enlarge the bust : I am t shaped male -so the rib cage is more important for me than the bust size - and have a long torso with a long ribcage and surprisingly a really short waist so all of my corsets used to go down to 25 inch from an uncorseted 26" and it would always ride up and suffocate me, now i use historical patterns (from de gracieuse mainly) I always have to lengthen them by an inch or two because the bust gussets start at my lower ribcage it looks ridiculous, and I have to widen the top of about an inch or so on most "one size" patterns and I manage to go down to 24" (when tightlacing) from a 27 inch waist. Small tip for underweight people and people with broad bones(might be useful to non squishy people in general ) wear historical woven linen chemises under your corset (haven't tried historical knitted undershirts and union suits yet) instead of tank tops and tshirt, it adds some visually pleasing bulk and it will create a buffer between your bones and the corset (where most t-shirts are too thin) and it will be a shape your corset will be able to move around where your body doesn't allow for it, also if you make flimsy mock ups and they feel painfully but you don't know why try adding some stronger bonings, mainly in the back, maybe a stiffer fabric or change your lacing gap, the bigger the gap or if the bunny ears are ever so slightly to high or too low, all of this puts more strain on your body than your final corset would

      Thank you for sharing the struggles! I think sizing is often going to be an issue for lots of people when it comes to corsetry so having someone else’s experiences in these comments will hopefully be helpful to anyone watching who’s just getting into it. You gave a really good range of tips for a lot of people and I, as well as they I imagine, am grateful to have somebody else talking about it here! 🖤

      Fiskars are good, but I have my issues with them since my Fiskars one is the only one that's given me trouble. (And has since been retired / banished to paper cutting only.) My primary rotary cutters are both Westcott with the titanium blades and they're both spectacular. I've had them for years and haven't had to replace the blades yet; the bigger one just cut through about 6 layers of cotton in one go with minimal issue. (It's a very rough project; I'm not going for precision with it, lol.) Love those things.

    Lovely!! Im so glad it turned out well even without the mockup! I do wearable mockups because I hate wasting fabric and have a few interesting items in my wardrobe because of this. Luckily I work with dogs and they really don't care how I dress! I don't know how well a wearable mockup would be for a corset, but just in case 😁

      @MadameMyriad  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I have a nearly finished my denim mockup for my own Edwardian corset. Denim is an excellent mockup fabric for coutil. Have the supplies (coutil/synthetic boning) to make an actual historically accurate corset, but would still like to make my mockup wearable! But with zip ties instead of boning........?

    • @thedrinkinggames9573
      @thedrinkinggames9573 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@sewmuchjoy I used denim for my Redthreaded Regency short stays mockup. I ended up making the mockup bust too large, and the final one too small. But I still wear both all the time. I totally forgot it was even a mockup until now.
