With style, modest attitude and good knowledge of what a man "need".I gave a Seiko SKX 007 and a Opinel knife to my youngest son, and he wear the watch every day with pride. He knows quality when he sees it, and it dont have to be expensive. Keep up the good work mate.

    My personal top 10:
    10. Dark Wash Jeans - The most versatile piece of clothing there is. I prefer Levi's.
    9. Rugged Boots - If you live in a country with cold winters, these are essential. Wear them everyday without much thought, and then give them a clean when you want to dress them up.
    8. A Leather Jacket - Arguably the most masculine jacket there is. You just feel great wearing one, and no matter who you are, there's a style for you.
    7. A Polo Shirt - Casual and classy at the same time. I prefer Lacoste for its petit piqué knitting, and because it's a brand with a sense of humor.
    6. A Hat - Whether it's a baseball cap, a flatcap, or a fedora, it doesn't really matter. Every man should own a hat (that fits!). I prefer the brand Goorin Bros. for their timeless looks.
    5. A Keychain Knife - I can't imagine not having a knife on me at all times, but a pocket knife isn't the best thing to wear around the city. Victorinox are known for their Swiss Army knifes, and they also make keychain versions. Essential.
    4. A Signature Fragrance - Everyone should put as much effort into how they smell, as they do when it comes to how they look. Because how you smell can change someone's perception of you, regardless of how you look.
    3. A Bicycle - If you live in a city that allows you to ride a bicycle, then you should. It's quite simply the best form of transportation there is. I love my Bombtrack Arise, it never lets me down no matter where I ride it.
    2. In-Ear Headphones - Different from full-size headphones, you can have these in your inner jacket pocket at all times. There are a lot of great brands out there like Sennheiser, Shure, B&O, Beyerdynamic, and so on. Get high quality, don't settle for less.
    1. An Everyday Watch and a Dress Watch - Everyone should have at least one of each.

I know that this kind of comment gets commented daily, but here we go anyway.
I am a 14 year old boy who has always loved jewellery and watches, but only a select few styles. I would look at a watch's brand first, and if it wasn't seiko, casio or tag or something like that I would look away, but through your channel I have broadened my horizons and am now a proud owner of an Invite Pro Diver (Pretty entry level and Homagey I know) and am in love with the whole watch scene. I didn't know that there was a community this big that loved watches! I also want to thank you for having this channel for the love of watches, as you have never done a paid sponsorship. Congratulations, YOU have inspired and crafted the next generation of Gentlemen! sorry for the long comment, but I think that your passion, charm and knowledge is greatly underrated any you deserve more credit and appreciation than you get.
    Thanks for inspiring me,

Robbo same aged dude as you. Whenever I look on amazon I probably would buy a slightly more expensive Casio over a generic cheep-o digital watch. I want to proudly say “I have a 10$ Casio!” rather then a 2$ knock-off. I would buy a time-tested company’s product. I wanna be happy with that choice 10 yrs down the line you know! That’s why I just got a Seiko snk803 for my b-day. Really pleased about it.

One thing you always miss in your everyday carry and co is a lighter. Even though one doesn't smoke and shouldn't either (I only smoke a cigarr once in a while) I think a gentleman should be able to help someone out with fire (actually i had some nice talks through this...), Light a candle somewhere... And besides that, Zippo as an example has a great Tradition and history. It It is very easy as well to get one personalized to you very own liking, a great bonus! Best regards

Bare minimum I never leave the house without a watch, swiss army knife of various models, but when I'm not rushing out the door I typically carry the watch, swiss army knife, regular folder, flashlight, and a zippo. Much tradition with Zippo and an iconic US brand. How many items can you buy in this day and age for less than $20 that are made in the US and carry a lifetime guarantee?

    No particular order.
    1) Watch: For everyday I wear something like my Sinn U1000 or 756 Diapal or other Sinn. Also, IWC Aquatimer 2000 (3719-28), Pelagos LHD. I wear a lot of chronographs for their everyday usefulness.
    2) Knife: I collect super high end knives (some are worth enough that I could sell one and buy something in the price range of a Tudor Black Bay. Chris Reeve's Knives are my favorite, they're the Rolex Sub of the knife world, Sebenza 25 with Micarta inlay and Damascus steel is my go to knife. Also: Jake Hoback custom Kwaiback, Microtech Combat Troodon & Scarab (Microtech Custom: Mini Matrix R - Purple Haze/Dark Matter W/Carbon Fiber is my newest knife), Hinderer, Brad Southard, Todd Rexford, Brian Fellhoelter, etc.
    3) Sunglasses: Randolph Engineering Aviators (3 pairs) and a few other models, Julbo glacier glasses, Wiley X for shooting, Rudy Project for cycling/triathlon/marathon. Some Ray Bans.
    4) Flashlight: Lens Light K.O., some Surefires, 4 Sevens, Nitecore
    5) Bag: Saddleback Leather waxed canvas for everyday or travel, their leather bags for luggage. T.A.D. Litespeed and Fast Pack for outdoors/expedition stuff, some other brands for different endeavors.
    6) A jacket: Belstaff Trialmaster, Woodbridge, S Icon Blouson, and a few of their leather jackets.
    7) Pen and notepad: Space pen or Hinderer titanium pen, Brian Fellhoelter bolt action ti pen. Field Notes expedition notepads.
    8) Wallet: Saddleback leather (a few models always Tobacco color), Ashland Leather Fat Herbie shell cordovan limited reversed.
    9) Boots: various brands... Wolverine 1000 miles, various models and colors.

They have all types for all tastes...there are other brands, but the iconic look & sound of one being fired up & closed always attracts attention of the positive type....😊Also, a flashlight, possibly a Mag-lite Solitaire...it comes in different colors as well...You might consider a roller ball pen, Parker has some very nice ones, covering almost every budget....for those who want a fountain pen "feel" without the inconvenience of filling it up, since it uses cartridges like the Jotter...

Good morning sir - I have been an ardent Anglophile since 1964 and seriously involved in Horology for the < past 3-4 years. Discovering your terrific presentations (Horologic and other) has made my 2 favorite addictions just that much more enjoyable with the added benefit of your beautiful UK accent (try to never lose this), At least from my somewhat biased perspective the accent just makes each and everything you say seem that much more significant and vital. Please keep up the fantastic job. All the best to you and yours.

I switched to Ralph Lauren polo shirts because the collars hold their shape a little better than Lacoste. Also I can highly recommend some Clarks desert boots. I'm still rocking a pair I wore in university, 20 years ago. For a knife, I'd suggest a GEC Farm and Field Tool. Not quite as pretty or historic as a Laguiole, but it's another object that will last a lifetime. Also just a minor point, suits date from the Victorian era. with the Brooks Brothers pioneering both the 2 and the 3 piece. Nothing but love.

There are several inexpensive but well made traditional-style fountain pens available. I recommend the Pilot Metropolitan - black or silver ($15), Platinum Balance ($43), TWSBI Classic ($50), and Conklin Duragraph ($52). All available at Goulet Pens.

    • @vladyarotsky5287
      @vladyarotsky5287 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Oh let me second that. Especially as for TWSBIs. TWSBI Eco is even cheaper than that and is very nice and appropriate. There is also Kaweco Al-Sport handy portable and durable. Two other options I have to mention are relatively pricey and feature gold nibs (actually of the cheapest to have it) but are kinda appropriate (for TGV personally and channel thematics overall). Those are Lamy 2000 that is true Bauhaus piece and Pilot Vanishing Point (aka Capless in some markets) that has a retractible nib. Also those who are not sure about quality of personal handwriting gotta at least try using stub nib - it will add character and kinda fanciness to the handwriting and also can improve it over time. One more thing. Whence you got into FPs you got into inks. And you have enormous variety of inks to chose from that are different in very many ways.

The knowledge I have picked up, especially about wristwatches is first class, so thank you for that ( a Tudor Pelagos with the black dial is next on my shopping list👍🏻). What I really wanted to thank you for is introducing me to Carl Friedrik bags. I have just ordered a 'Penton' ladies bag in cognac for my wife as a Christmas present. I know she is going to love it and it has saved me a trip to the shops which is tip top. Keep up the good work your videos are always entertaining.

    I usually carry...
    1. A wallet: Shinola Detroit makes EXCELLENT leather goods. Even if you don't fancy their watches, you cannot argue that their leather goods are bad. I also carry an urban edc wallet for my pen and sometimes flashlight/swiss army knife.
    2. A money clip: Coach makes excellent money clips.
    3. A key fob: not really necessary but it adds a nice flair. I use a Mont Blanc key fob and I love it.
    4. A pen: I usually carry a William Henry BA-2 pen. On occasion I carry my fathers Mont Blanc Nobless or my Fisher Space Pen.
    5. A pocket knife: This varies upon circumstance but I have a Böker Scout that I love (German made), a good ole Swiss Army Knife, a CRKT Squid (a small but effective backup), a Böker plus Kwaiken Mini (black G-10), and a Spyderco Endura 4 FFG.

I loved this video! My family does not understand that a gentleman should have nice things like this. I feel they think I am just sort of pretentious to want quality items which they equate to expensive. Like you said, spending a bit more to get a quality item, it will last a lifetime. Why buy many inexpensive bags over time, when a nice leather satchel will last you for years? It was interesting to see that we had almost identical items! My list, in no particular order: 1. Double-edge safety razor (Merkur, many old Gillettes); 2. Satchel (LM Leather); 3. Driving glasses (Serengeti); 4. University ring; 5. Pens - fountain (Montblanc, Pelikan, many others); 6. Casual shirts (Henleys, polos) 7. Shoes (Sebago, Sperry); 8. Pocket knife (Benchmade, Kershaw, others); 9. Watch (Breitling, Omega, others); 10. Flashlight (Mag-Lite).

You don't have to spend 700-1500$ on a Montblanc or Montegrappa to enjoy fountain pens. You can easily enjoy a well writing fountain pen for at most double the cost of a jotter (which isn't very much). German made Lamy safari, or Faber Castel lume. Or even an entry level Japanese pen. Pilot metropolitans go for the same price of a jotter most places.

I have an 96 member watch collection where each item is unique in some way, they range in price from $16-$3200. I love to view your videos as it is the only way that I will ever see the high cost watches that seem to be the choice of many blog sites. I was unimpressed wit b my Rolex GMT Master that cost me $295.00 back In 1970. It was the least accurate watch that I have ever owned, and the bezel faded so many times that Rolex sent me a package of ten bezel. I do have to admit that I did get more than I paid when I sold it three years later. Any way, I will continue to watch your channel, I have learned a lot from it already. Good luck with the new website!

Moss Bros jackets are very affordable, you will not find better for less. As for knives, Opinel are mostly under $20. Watches, well I have a ton of videos on great affordable options. For the chukka boots, I think Rockport have something similar for less, also check our Clarks. As for the bag, sorry, I am not sure. Fro the Glasses, go to glassesUSA.com, they have amazing affordable options, I did a video on them a while ago. Fro the Signet ring, go silver instead of gold.
      There you go ;-)
      Hope that helps, thank you,
      Best regards,
      TGV

I've been buying Lacoste and other top shelf golf shirts at thrift stores so long I experienced sticker shock when I visited your Amazon store. $144.98 for a Lacoste golf shirt? OMG!
I'm happy getting the hand me downs, on my financial level, from dapper Dans like yourself. : ) Thanks for your channel! (I've been a Parker fan since I was a kid. Favorite is the Silver cross cut design in pen and pencil, even fountain pen!)

Great video. Consider carrying a quality small flashlight. I use it more than my pocket knife.

      @Teej
It's far easier to pull out a small flashlight than it is to fiddle with your phone for several seconds.
It massively drains your phone battery
It's frequently when I need a light I am in a situation where I don't want to be waving my phone around. For example while examining my engine block.

Teej people need to start weening themselves away from cell phones...who owns who? The cell phone is there for MY convenience, not others. I leave mine off 90% of the time.

Great list! My essentials are :
    Electric razor, not cuts.
Branded leather backpack, so classy yet so dynamic.
Handmade American leather boots in rich cognac.
    An automatic watch of course.

Instead of a pocket/folding knife, I find that my Gerber Multi-plier tool is very handy. It is somewhat bulkier than a single blade knife, so I normally keep it in my car.

I also have a Leatherman about a year ago I picked up a skeletonize Gerber on sale at Cabela’s for $10. That has become my favorite knife.
