I’m not necessarily your target audience, a gentleman in his early 60’s. I enjoy your videos and think your mission is desperately needed today. Here are a few thoughts on things I’ve found essential over the years: Cocktails - you need a collection of 6 tumblers of very high quality and different but compatible designs. Mine are Salviati … expensive, elegant, and just the right weight. You should have completely clear ice cubes on hand. You can purchase a simple and inexpensive tray that makes 4 at a time. A quality woman will immediately recognize your attention to detail. A small supply of the finest garnishes is a necessity. Luxardo cherries, Castelvetrano olives, and fresh lemons are a good start. Know how to make 4 key drinks: a Manhattan, an Old Fashioned, a Martini, and a Negroni. A great book on cocktails is Death & Co. Lighting - your comments on lighting are spot on. I also use only 2700 degree Kelvin lighting. The color is a perfect soft white, similar to the glow of a candle or twilight on a clear evening. I also avoid down lights, particularly in front of a mirror. They tend to cast shadows that make your guests feel uncomfortable. Your videos are very nicely done and enjoyable, keep them coming.
A music system is definitely up there. Even more versatile than a cocktail set (although I appreciate the aesthetics of the latter). A really nice Italian coffee machine would set a similar tone to the cocktail set.
A Music System is a must. When you have "Company" playing music is wonderful. Whether it's Jazz or Pop, and if you get Romantic R & B is fantastic. There's this running joke that if you were born in the 1970's you came into The World thanks to Teddy Pendergrass, Barry White, Marvin Gaye, and The Isley Brothers. Cutlery is also important. Also if your "guest" comes over have some Finger Food, A Vegetable Tray, Quiche, or other things. They would love that.

The tips on ambience and decor are much appreciated. One suggestion (if I may): The crumpled tube of Colgate stood out on your otherwise immaculate counter. I, a man much older but not as wise, have spent years trying to find the best (and most gentlemanly...) toothpaste. That epic quest ended years ago when I stumbled upon the Italian brand Marvis. The packaging is refined, sure, but more importantly the taste of the paste is exceptional. Just like a luxurious cream can take shaving from a nick-filled chore to an enjoyable, even meditative, experience, so can sophisticated toothpaste elevate the dull act of brushing into something enjoyable, even anticipated. There's an assortment of flavors to choose from. our preference will, of course, differ from mine, but I'm partial to anise, cinnamon, and jasmine.
There are many things you can do to add personality and interest to your home. I'll add something rarely suggested. Something old from your family. Some picture, statue, or knickknack that came from a grandparent or parent, and intended to remind you of your roots. Something that keeps hidden a story about where you came from. It needn't by dramatic or fully explain your family history. "This is the key my great-great-great grandfather fashioned from the frame of his bunk, in order to escape from the dungeon that evil King (X) threw him in for making a pass at the Princess." It can be anything that once belonged to someone in your past, and serves to remind you. Beyond a complimentary statement about your connection with your past, this is good for you too, for the same reason.
Bathroom organizer (cosmetics caddy) also prevents items falling on the floor unexpectedly, waking guests or neighbors. Took me 5 decades to decide I needed one, and that was only after I found a nice discarded one.
In my bathroom I have a mouthwash dispenser attached to small disposable cups next to a cup full of disposable toothbrushes; these are used by both houseguests and dates that come over. I also recommend having a roll of paper towels in the bathroom since people don’t feel hygienic using others’ wet towels.
The cocktail set adds a nice sophisticated touch, especially in gold. Something else to add is a nice-looking cocktail recipe book in case someone orders something out of the ordinary.
I would encourage you to put a big full-length mirror on the wall behind you in the little hallway area next to the refrigerator - I think that a 30” by 60” mirror in a nice frame that you like would be perfect. The mirror would reflect light and your amazing view, make your place feel bigger, and give you a great place to check out your outfits. I love your videos and I learn alot from them - keep up the good work!
Thanks for the Cheat Sheet, I downloaded it. I would add clean towels and bedding. These should only be used when women are over, not your everyday towels. You may not bed a woman every time one comes over, but best to be ready just in case. The towels just for her should look like your towels (ie. don't buy girlie towels) but because you are going to pull them out only when guests come over, they will stay in a better condition for longer. It also saves you from forgetting to do laundry and having nothing but a smelly towel you used for the last two or three days. Household Sprezzatura, you want the bedding and towels already in place when guests come over, you don't want to scramble while they are there. It gives the "effortless" impression that you always live with fresh, clean, unworn towels and bedding.
I've taken to purchasing vintage posters and having them professionally framed. They're not necessarily cheap, and the framing certainly isn't. But it's far less expensive than original fine art or some fine art prints. Also, it looks better than those canvas or metal wall hangings designed to break up empty space, and can be a great conversation piece.
I agree, I'm a woman, but I love this kind of decor you describe, and there's something so masculine and classic about beautiful, vintage posters, well framed. xoxo
Agreed! I've just gotten into the headset space, picking up the Hifiman Sundara and Fiio K7 amp/dac with a custom Hart Audio cable on the way. So glad I decided to get into hifi-listening, it's an experience.
@alexshewan The A-S 1200 is more than adequate and will drive 95% of all speakers made at 1/3 the price. With my system it sounds like Bryan Ferry is singing a foot away.
Excellent video , I have placed a vintage valet stand in my bedroom and in the den is a wooden music stand . Just inside the front entrance is a ships bell for a visitor to ring as they enter and next to the stove an antique kitchen scale . Absolutely invest in the proper glass wear crockery and cutlery , you may not need much but you have it .
A woman friend advised to have essentials for a female overnight. Makeup remover, hair brush, a Dyson hair dryer for the long hair, extra toothbrush, a small magnifying miror for makeup next morning, a hair scrunchie so she can wash her face, extra new towels..unused so she knows she is special. A clean bathrobe..yours..so she can wrap herself in comfort next morning. Mixed comments on a mirror opposite the bed. Some are horrified at the thought, some not. Maybe just don't and keep her comfortable. Full length mirror so she can confirm her outfit looks smashing! And low light options everywhere.
If you have a signature scent, a tiny bit on the bathrobe that can only be smelled when it is worn, might be a psychological ploy to have her thinking off you even when you are not in the same room. Would only work if she actually likes your scent, so likely best to wait until after you have received compliments on it while on a previous dinner date.
This is fantastic, i've been meaning you get a diffuser for my apartment. I want a nice Sandalwood scent to fill my home and relax me. Oh and thank you for the cheat sheet, this will help immensely.
@@davidb7180 - some years back when I became newly bachelored I went and purchased a variety of feminine items, all name brand, high quality. All in small quantities and sealed. As well as hair and tooth brushes, and any small travel essentials for an unexpected overnight stay. Most importantly: All sealed or obviously unused. In the event that there was a change in company the old items would be discarded or collected and held for safekeeping in the event that there was a re-occurrence. For me it was simply the cost of doing business, a line item expense if you will.
That was simply one of the best videos I've ever seen from you. I was very happy that you eschewed any reference to smoking accessories. The other thing that I really enjoyed is you're keeping it clean with respect to illegal drugs or any reference to drug paraphernalia. A true gentleman never takes anything more powerful than a legal cocktail. In many states, cannabis is legal, but the smell is so terrible that most women and friends will not like the smell of cannabis within your place. Perhaps you might have mentioned something about an espresso machine, or some kind of coffee facility, but the problem is there are so many junk items available for any gentleman's pad that there is a risk of overdoing the basic decorative recommendations. I like the way you kept it simple, tidy, and clean. Excellent video!
Upgrading the cocktail supplies will be a good move. Cocktail Kingdom has the Koriko shaker tins and the best Hawthorn strainer in the business. I also agree the music is the main missing element here. Vinyl or a good blue tooth system will work.
In my opinion it is substantial to have a home with a personal style. Homes that have been furnished at once haven’t a story and convey the charme of an exchangeable hotel lobby, regardless what you spent for it . Mix two or three topics that have a corespondent colour, material or pattern. Avoid sets of accessories. Collect photographs of your loved ones, favorite places, you‘ve been to or snappshots of your friends in moments that mean something to you. Do picture editing with these pictures. Just pick a detail from the photos and make a series from it for example a collection of different hands, smiling lips or a collection of cut out different sunglasses, whatever you want. Buy picture frames, that have different designs and sizes but the same material and same range of color. Arrange the picture collection in them in clusters that have a shape. A line, a square, a circle, a smile. Before you hang them up. arrange them on the floor to see, what is the best combination and try to leave evenly space between the frames. If you choose to have such a flat like in the video with a modest selection of colors, make it a composition, that leads the eye subtly through the whole room. In this case, the guy has a favorite lamp with a green shade. It would be beautiful, when he would have a vase in the same green somewhere in the other corner of the room, or cocktail glasses that pick up the color, in an array of cushions on the sofa „accidentally“ one in the same green, or in a collection of white picture frames one in that green. Just three green details are sufficient to make the lamp not an alien object anymore. If you are in „Bauhaus design“, watch out for lamps or objects on Ebay and let it appear in the flat. Or maybe collect backlight shades from old Jaguars from Ebay or a flea market to hang three of them next to the picture. Let your fantasy flow with the topics of your interior, maybe a glass sculpture of a that animal supports your taste. (An interesting addition to this particular coffee table would be a book about Hardy Amies or „ABC of men’s fashion“ by himself. It is always good to know the background of your favorite topics from people who epitomized it, when you not already have read something about him. ) Do not think, it is unmanly to pay attention to your personal home. Make it for yourself, not to impress others. They will be impressed automatically, when they share your personality that is perceptible in an unique atmosphere of your place. It is good for your personal development to boldly spend a few thoughts and some time in your home as it will give you energy, when you’ll love it, when it is personal and beautiful. You deserve a place that is not merely a shelter for the weather, but a home where you love to be and that makes you feel happy for every single detail. The next stage level is: How your place gets prepared easily for a date. Have always candles or votives at home. You and your date will always look better in a romantic light than illuminated with a ceiling lamp undimmed lamps around. Be patient and let your home improve slowly!

A few more items for you; decent towels, a full length bath robe, and a really nice espresso maker with quality cups and saucers. If you like tea-I find that an ornate but elegant tea set is comforting.
Framed art has always been available just like books at free public libraries and that was even before on-line access. I’d certainly check it out today.
Music system. These days, you can get lots of great sounding, interesting kit that you can run from a phone or tablet. Also, you picked a good town to buy art. Try to make some friends among the students at the Art Institute of Chicago. Someone might lead you to some appealing original art without having to pay a gallery commission. Plenty of nice towels in the BR for the lady friend.
A decent HiFi system with amplifier, CD player and turntable and perhaps a streaming device. And no bluetooth! Alternative: An old HiFi console with external speakers. These consoles - for example by Braun or Wega - were actually pretty decent except for the speakers. And if the have a tape input you can even plug in a decent streaming device. Most important: some decent speakers. Either floorstanding speakers or smaller ones on a nice speaker stand. It shows that you value the art of music. Because bad sound kills good music.
Bookshelf with books on topics of your interest is necessary. It shows you are well read and sophisticated. A vanity mirror helps check for blemishes and outfit mishaps a bathroom mirror will often miss. And every good home needs a cat.
Great video! I’m really enjoying your channel. One tip regarding cocktails: be sure to keep vermouth, once opened, in the refrigerator until use and not on your bar. Being a fortified wine, it is not shelf stable. And replace every month or so. Vermouth that has turned will ruin a classic cocktail like a Manhattan or martini.
Hey I really love your videos! However, as a bartender I feel compelled to tell you that you should refrigerate your vermouth instead of leaving it on the counter. It’s fortified wine so it spoils and turns sour in a week or two just like regular wine, but if you put it in the fridge it can last well more than a month! It’s a little known fact and as a result a lot of people insist they hate vermouth but in reality most of them have only tasted rancid wine.
Under your point four, I would also add getting a nice letter opener. It is a tiny detail, but tearing open envelopes is a bit messy and mildly crass. It also leaves a mess in your recycling bin, if it is an open one. I bought a set of cutlery (and a letter opener) from Arthur Price (the suppliers of cutlery for HMS Titanic) when I bought my new flat and it was one of my best and most timeless purchases.
If space is an issue and a receiver would not be practicable , I would suggest the Marshall Bluetooth speaker(acton III). The retro style is very appealing and the sound is pretty good.
@@RoadKing22 An absolute No-Go. Those types of speakers a crappy. And bluetooth is absolute rubbish. Marshall makes guitar amplifiers, not decent speakers. Bowers & Wilkins, KEF, Canton, Dali, these companies make decent speakers. You don‘t buy Levi‘s shoes, do you?
This shaker is actually not very good. I find the opposite problem, it gets jammed too easy. I have two hold the seal with my fingers to prevent it closing fully. I might get a better one for practical use and keep this just for display
I have a good bar set. And my favorite booze includes Evan Williams bourbon, Johnny Walker Red Label scotch, Tanqueray gin and Stoli vodka. I don't futz around with complicated drinks; classics are best...Martini, Gin & Tonic, Tom Collins, Old Fashioned, Black Russian, etc. My wines are generally Merlot or Shiraz, but it's good to have Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio on hand. Cheers!
1700s Villeroy and Bosch is simply stunning. The former pope used these dishes too. My favorite artist is Tamara de Lempika from the 1920s. My lights are from Italy 🇮🇹.
Chicago has strong ties to UK Culture. It was the Home of Chess Records created by Two Brothers Phil & Leonard Chess who are of Polish Background. Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Reed, Howlin Wolf, and Muddy Waters were major influences on not only The Beach Boys, but The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Moody Blues, Rolling Stones & Yardbirds whose ripple effect still exists to this day.
Nice idea to have a coffee table book but it would be more interesting for any lady visitors to have a book which would be more appealing for them - an art book, photography - anything as long as it is of interest to you as well. Also more books and music add ambience to a home.
My 5c worth will be to have either a Cognac, Irish, or Scotish whisky in its original bottle with the cocktail bar set. I'm not to fond of bourbon but that will also work. Ensure that you have elegant cognac and/or whiskey glasses. Obvious but people do miss this. I would personally have gone for a more colorful Bauhaus. Even do a commission with a local budding artist. Then finally.....there must a deep wingback leather chair. Preferably in an old English style to complement the nearby bankers desk lamp. This chair is used to sit and read those timeless classic novels. Be it Charles Dickens or Isaac Azimov. Also, to sit back after a hard day earning your keep, sipping that cognac. Listening to a piece of acid jazz or Pink Floyd.
Keep your place cleanish and neatish, and not cluttered. (Translation: you're squared away, but not obsessively clean) A book shelf with books is always a conversational piece, if you read. (Translation: you are interesting, maybe intelligent) Plants and maybe a fish. (You can take care of something).
Do not forget, that having plants does help.
Absolutely agreed
Was just gonna say that
Plants say a lot about the real fortitude of a man

I admire your productivity and commitment, especially as I am about to start my own TH-cam channel (on a very different topic). Keep up the good work.
Good luck with your channel. Remember to keep posting. I had almost no views for the first two months
"This is the key my great-great-great grandfather fashioned from the frame of his bunk, in order to escape from the dungeon that evil King (X) threw him in for making a pass at the Princess."
It can be anything that once belonged to someone in your past, and serves to remind you.
Beyond a complimentary statement about your connection with your past, this is good for you too, for the same reason.
Good call....
Bathroom organizer (cosmetics caddy) also prevents items falling on the floor unexpectedly, waking guests or neighbors. Took me 5 decades to decide I needed one, and that was only after I found a nice discarded one.
…. The List for Kings 👑
1) classic cocktail
2) a coffee table book
3) essential oil room diffuser
4) classic cutlery, plates, glasses
5) classic wall art
6) lighting, lamps for creating mood
7) bathroom organizers
Just FYI, those ultrasonic scent diffusers are incredibly bad for lung health; don't use the electronic ones
Great list !
LIST for FOOLS you mean 🤣
You instantly become a meme if you have all the items.
Those bathroom organizers are such a great idea. I’ll have to snag a set.
Love the Bryan Ferry artwork. Very appropriate. I true genius.
Loved the apartment! That view is spectacular.
Thank you, looking forward to giving a full tour soon
In my bathroom I have a mouthwash dispenser attached to small disposable cups next to a cup full of disposable toothbrushes; these are used by both houseguests and dates that come over. I also recommend having a roll of paper towels in the bathroom since people don’t feel hygienic using others’ wet towels.
Clean bedding and a nice bedside table. It has to be able to accommodate all the things a gentlemen may need when entertaining a lady.
Holy smokes, Gent Z! Downtown Chicago is great! Congrats!
That's a good idea! Thank you. I already have a mirror in the bedroom just like that and I very much enjoy how it reflects the view
Nice items! Cocktail set is a must for me.
You’re growing fast on youtube, Almost 30k subscribers in a month!! you deserve it!
Have a nice day!
Thank you. Yes, the work is paying off here
😮 i came to this channel based on great presentation 👏! Well done
What i need ? My two adorable cats and my whole vinyl records and CDs collection ❤
MY GUY THIS VIDEO WAS SOOO NICE AND SOO INSIGHTFUL. I’m hitting the reset bottom on my place right now to start over!
Good stuff in this video!!! 🎉
Hello from Germany, in fact, i visited the Bauhaus Museum in Weimar 2 months ago because i'm a fan too!
I agree, I'm a woman, but I love this kind of decor you describe, and there's something so masculine and classic about beautiful, vintage posters, well framed. xoxo
High-quality kitchen knife set & a skilled hand to wield it. A bookshelf with actual books on it. & a globe to know your place in the world. 🌎
Yes! And a good knife sharpener and skill using it. Well sharpened knives are a must for safety when preparing cuisine.
Every fine home should have a Hi-Fi audio system. I have followed Bryan Ferry for decades.
Agreed!
I've just gotten into the headset space, picking up the Hifiman Sundara and Fiio K7 amp/dac with a custom Hart Audio cable on the way. So glad I decided to get into hifi-listening, it's an experience.
@@alexshewan OUTSTANDING. I just got the Yamaha a-s 3200 amp.
@@broederbond60 Now that's a thing of beauty. That'll be a distant goal to one day reach xD
@alexshewan The A-S 1200
is more than adequate and will drive 95% of all speakers made at 1/3 the price. With my system it sounds like Bryan Ferry is singing a foot away.
He’s excellent
Nice addition!
This is fantastic, i've been meaning you get a diffuser for my apartment. I want a nice Sandalwood scent to fill my home and relax me. Oh and thank you for the cheat sheet, this will help immensely.
I would add a lined garbage bin with a lid in the bathroom is a must for anyone entertaining female guests.
Very good suggestion, thank you
Also to go with that, a box of tampons. Just in case.
@davidb7180 no, I wouldn't do that.
A small box of good quality pads is less invasive.
Great book!
Great video, I'll be trading out the cocktail kit for a classic tea set, it suits my personal style and habits a bit better.
It's always better to have an equivalent something that tailors to you as a person 👍
This is absolutely the funniest thing I've seen all week! The male Philomena Cunk on decoration! Tremendous! So funny. Keep up the good work!
a lovely home, perhaps a leather arm chair would be a fine addition.
May I suggest a 'cool' stereo and turntable set up a la Harry Bosch since you are clearly a Jazz aficionado! Vintage Marantz perhaps or McIntosh ?!
Harry Bosch 👍 👍 👍
I love Mid Century Modern design, and so glad that turntables and vinyl collections are back "in style." Plus, music can evoke romance as well.
Keep it up Champ / greetings from Sweden
It is always good to know the background of your favorite topics from people who epitomized it, when you not already have read something about him. )
Do not think, it is unmanly to pay attention to your personal home.
Essential oil diffusers are fantastic!
No, they may disgust.
@@anatolygrishin4234 How so?
Counter caddies are a great call!
Great video and great comment section. Thank you gentlemen
Evening sir! I've been a viewer for a while and I was hoping for a video on this topic. You're alcohol set up gave me an idea! I'm a pretty skilled woodworker and I've been planning on building a youtube channel around that topic. I'd love to design you a project as my first video, maybe a sophisticated display for your bottles and cocktail kit?
Otherwise, thank you kindly for helping us gents elevate our game. Its greatly appreciated!
Hi, that could be wonderful. Please give me an email so we can discuss
@@Gent.ZI will, although I cant seem to find your Email anywhere.

Thank you for the interesting videos. I love your uncluttered style. My apartment has artwork from my travels. Your background music is nice.
A few more items for you; decent towels, a full length bath robe, and a really nice espresso maker with quality cups and saucers. If you like tea-I find that an ornate but elegant tea set is comforting.
Awesome video. Well done. Bar Tip - if you have room, put your vodka and gin in the freezer. That will elevate your martini, Cheers.
Framed art has always been available just like books at free public libraries and that was even before on-line access. I’d certainly check it out today.
Do you have a clothes valet for your apartment? I find mine very helpful to prepare my outfit for the morning.
A decent lounge chair and also a record player
I’m definitely acquiring one of those banker’s lamps asap…
Great vid once again. 🍻
Suggest installing a dimmer-switch to the main light source when you need to chill out.
@@DavidDesotelle thanks for the tip. Since posting this video, I have learned that the hard way. These days, you’ll find my Vermouth in the fridge!
Nice video and nice apartment!
In the age of emails and WhatsApp!
@@c.a.narayannarayan141 Indeed! I live in London, where snail mail is unfortunately a constant and unfortunate inevitability.
The Cary Grant book is a great choice too
Would add a good hifi system- vintage receiver and walnut speakers would look great in that place.
You don‘t buy Levi‘s shoes, do you?
your channel is very underrated
Don't shy away from candles, especially in the front room.
Very pragmatic and stylish. Thank you
Wonderful tips! Thank you!
My coffee table book is Ralph Lauren's Polo Shirt. 🐎 😊
I know that shaker from the cocktail set, be careful because the seal on that thing isn’t perfect and you might end up with some leakage.
Cheers!
Great content. I recommend make your subtitles, 1/3 of their current size.
1700s Villeroy and Bosch is simply stunning. The former pope used these dishes too. My favorite artist is Tamara de Lempika from the 1920s. My lights are from Italy 🇮🇹.
T
That‘s „Villeroy & Boch“, without the s.
„Bosch“ produces domestic appliances.
I’d also say record players n collections of jazz & classical records to play as a background when you invite lady for a dinner
Make sure the lady appreciates your music selection. There's enough background music everywhere to bring this scourge to your home,
Bankers light is a certified gent classic
That jacket is great! Where can i get it? Or something similar
Link is in the description always to the clothes I wear in my videos
Chicago has strong ties to UK Culture. It was the Home of Chess Records created by Two Brothers Phil & Leonard Chess who are of Polish Background. Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, Jimmy Reed, Howlin Wolf, and Muddy Waters were major influences on not only The Beach Boys, but The Beatles, Gerry & The Pacemakers, The Moody Blues, Rolling Stones & Yardbirds whose ripple effect still exists to this day.
I liked your ideas, thank you. Next idea, if you have hi-fi: turn table; some plants, that look interesting and are not hustle to look after.
I used mechanic garage stools at my island / bar. looked unique.
Nice idea to have a coffee table book but it would be more interesting for any lady visitors to have a book which would be more appealing for them - an art book, photography - anything as long as it is of interest to you as well. Also more books and music add ambience to a home.
Humidor my good sir 👌….
If you didn't already, could you please make a video about fragrances? If you're as interested in them as I am, of course.
Yes, I'm filming one tomorrow actually
I concur Sir well done
Don’t forget the elegant wooden coffee table, that is secretly a locking compartment for your rifle. Since you are living in Chicago lol
Listening to a piece of acid jazz or Pink Floyd.
didn't know you were here in Chicago!💪
Adding a live plant and keeping it alive can say much about your attention to detail and your ability to care.
One should refrain from having Q-tips in a damp area without an airtight seal
Keep your place cleanish and neatish, and not cluttered. (Translation: you're squared away, but not obsessively clean)
A book shelf with books is always a conversational piece, if you read. (Translation: you are interesting, maybe intelligent)
Plants and maybe a fish. (You can take care of something).
