I felt water staying in my ear all day and a loss of hearing in that ear. I tried several methods that you described, but nothing worked. An ENT discovered a large piece of earwax on my eardrum, which he removed. The wax held on to the water, which affected my hearing. Everything's great now.
@@shabnamkhatoon7384 No, they didn't need surgery. In the channel of this short you can see videos on how they remove earwax with different tools, it's usually very fast
I always use a hairdryer because I cannot stand wet ears! In fact, it's super rare is use it to dry my hair. I pretty much only use it to dry out my ears. 😂
Being a lifeguard for a few years, where we were required to swim to stay strong, we often found our ears clogged with water. Our favorite method for getting them unclogged was to bend over at the waist with our ear facing the ground, and bounce our upper body up and down. If you have to you can brace yourself against a wall, but suddenly there will be a “pop” and all the water will rush out. An alternative was to shake your head while leaning over. These worked every time…if not one method, then the other.
For summer swimming occasional use, we would use rubbing alcohol. We used an small eye dropper full of rubbing alcohol, tip ear upright, flood ear, hold for 5 seconds, tip back with sometime off tissue or towel to catch the fluids. Worked ever time. Not sure what constant use would be, but I’m thinking this would only work for occasional situations. We never had ear aches or infections with this method.
Bend forward slowly at the waist until you no longer hear the water moving in your ear. Then turn your head slowly. You'll hear the water again. Keep the head tilted, and the water should release in a few moments.
I just pour some tepid water INTO the ear that has water in it, then tilt the ear to let it drain out. The new water mixes with the clogged water and breaks the seal, allowing it to roll out.
I have to lay on my side for the water to drain out, and feeling the water in the opposite ear makes me crazy in the interim. I have extremely dry skin and I make very little ear wax. My mother always put alcohol in my ears, and it dried out everything till I had an earache. That's when I learned to put olive oil in my ears before I went swimming. The water seems to drain more efficiently, and after the fact, my ears don't get overly dry.
I made a solution of 1 part white vinegar and 1 part isopropyl alcohol. Mixed it up, and put one dropper full into my daughter's ear. Drained it immediately by tilting her head. She said it instantly worked! My question is: how should we clean our ears? No Qtips, but what solution should we use?
Tilt your head, put one more drop of water in your ear, as soon as you hear a pop quickly tilt your the other way and all the water drains from your ear.
i was doing jumps while i have water in my ears, the water made a sound and i kept jumping, suddenly the water came out, so basically you just have to jump and tell me if it works
Thank you so much! I’ve had water stuck in my ear for about an hour and I didn’t know what to do so I did what you said and it did come out! Thanks so much! ❤
It's more than 10 years that i last time had the trouble of water causing me to hear strangely. But what helped me was tilting the head and jumping. Not high or far, just a little jumping on the spot to help gravity a little. Would not use a hairdrier as fast moving air feels ucomfortable in my ears, especially when they are wet.
Unfortunately, I'd think by the time most people make it to an audiologist for wet ears, they have an infection. 😢 But it would be cool if a guinea pig would be willing to get their ears wet just so we can see it!
Hi doc- I went swimming Wednesday and the water is still in my left ear primarily. I’m feeling partially deaf as I noticed music sounds louder in my right near headphones. When I switch the earphones, the music my still sounds louder in my right ear and is barely audible in my left. I’m about to travel from Miami back to NYC and worried the cabin pressure will make my left ear start to hurt. So far it’s just badly clogged from freestyle swimming on my left side. Should I just buy the ear drops once I get home? Or see an ear specialist? It’s been 2 days.
Another thing that is effective is while tilting my head to the right side (if the right ear has the water), I bend my knee of the left leg and lean over more on the right side. This adjusts slight pressure in the space of the inner part of the ear canal and that helps to release the water. 😊
I always tilt my head and bounce it up and down a bit, works every time for me. I had no idea this was a problem for so many people, it is very annoying so I feel bad for them.
I've tried this before, being careful to roll it solidly enough that I don't think the (relatively small amount of) water in there will risk any of it breaking off!
I'm a swim teacher. Interestingly, the best way for ME to get water out of my ears is to put more in. The new water bonds with what's in there and then the larger H2O mass comes out all together with the head tilt. It works for me, it's worked for others, but might now be for everyone.
When I was at camp, to prevent swimmer's ear, the counselors put a few drops of isopropyl alcohol in our ears when we got out of the water. They mixed and evaporated. Do you recommend this Rhys?
Off topic but when you wiggled your ear to get the water out it reminded me of a chiropractor video I watched and the chiropractor would pull on the ear and there would be a cracking sound. Why would the chiropractor do this and what are the plus/minus for doing it?
I had an outer ear infection from swimming once. The doctor (family doctor, not an ear doctor) told me to use a few drops of a 50/50 mix of vinegar and rubbing alcohol after swimming to dry out my ears and prevent future infections. The draft would need to be very powerful to physically suck wax up and out, and by that point it would rupture the ear drum. Therein lies the danger; if a piece of burning candle falls down the middle and into the ear, it WILL seriously harm the ear. It can burn a hole right through the very thin and very delicate ear drum. It can burn away the thin layer of skin that covers the proximal lumen of the outer ear, and it would not take much more than a second or 2 to create a full thickness 3rd degree burn. A punctured ear drum that was holed by a fallen ember will grow back with a sclerosed section and the hearing sensitivity won't be the same. Perhaps that ember is large and makes it into the middle ear after annihilating the ear drum... Then you face damaged ossicles, damaged windows, damaged nerves, etc. This is all extreme risk for absolutely *ZERO* benefit. Again, *ZERO* reason to use ear candles. I cringe so hard watching parents ignorantly force their children to do it. They are risking deafening their kid for life.
