You said that Twilight Princess had the first explosive arrows, but it was actually Link's Awakening, back on the original GameBoy. Equip arrows. Equip bombs. Use both simultaneously. You shoot an arrow with a bomb attached to it.

I really love the medallions from ALttP and was sad to see that they haven't been included in any Zelda game since. I kinda wish they'd bring them back in some form in a future game
@Brayden MyKel Oh, thanks. I honestly haven't played all the Zelda games that have been out, only a handful and out of the 19 games I only own 5 of them. Anyway, thank you for letting me know
I really liked them for that game, and their use for opening dungeons was really cool. But they would be so overpowered. Would be cool to have some kind of medallion again (not counting the ones in Ocarina of Time.) that had some type of use as an item... but they would probably just take the place of instruments or items like Farores Wind, Dins fire and Nayrus Love or take the place of special armor. I'm not sure what original purpose they could have at this point.
Wow... The moment during the bottle segment you said "catch bees" I shook a tree in ACNH and a bee fell out... Sooo glad I had my net equipped.
the double hookshot for BotW 2 would be the final touch we need for true 3D traversing, and with the exploration of underground caves, I can see it happening :D

For the paraglider, surprised there was no mention to the deku leaf from WW and even the sailcloth from SS

Hey the Paraglider was also (in a different form) in Wind Waker! That’s where it all started. It drained energy, sure, but was crucial in many ways in that game!

JUST play the ocarina soundtrack and fall asleep! Instant lullaby! Proven to work on babies and Toddlers missing mommy and daddy (I know I've tried IT ON MY NIECES)

The double claw shot you just can't beat. You fricken feel like Spider-man.
The hero's bow from delight princess is great especially when combined with the zoom mask to hit enemies from a absurd distance.

Or how about being able to grapple the ground and cliffsides, and releasing the hook whenever you want to get an insane speed boost in combination with the Paraglider :D

With the loss of champions abilities, the Cape or Feather would be useful in BotW2. And a beetle variant would be GREAT, but something more akin to a drone.
But above all else I want the double clawshot. Regardless how easy it would make the game. Lol

Ah yea you are completely right. I actually considered the Switch hook, since the idea behind it is so awesome. It was a bit obscure though, since it doesnt exist in many games. But I agree with you 100% ^^

I think the Megaton Hammer is vastly underappreciated. It has been present in the 2D games where Link can use it to create paths and temporarily disable enemies. In OOT, it can be used as a weapon not only against Volvagia, but Dark Link and Ganon.

I haven’t watched the video yet, it I hope the hook shot is #1 (I have a fascination with grappling hooks) And id also love to see a top ten tunics video. Now that I’m thinking about it, the glider and sheikah slate low-key broken lol

Special arrows would have been a good one. Light arrows, silver arrows, bomb arrows, fire and ice arrows, ancient arrows, electric arrows... a lot of cool uses over the years and can be really fun to use.

6:54 Pegasus boots/Bunny hood in BOTW2 is totally unnecessary due to the complete armor sets such as Dark Link which makes you run faster during nights. There are towers and shrines you can fast-travel to + the DLC fast-travel medallion. Other armors also offers different stat upgrades as long as you wear the full sets. Don’t forget about the potions you can brew that boosts speed as well as other neat buffs!

I'd love to have the Sheikah Slate in real life. I could put my car keys in my compendium so I can use the dowsing feature to find them. Better yet, just use it to summon the Master Cycle as my ride. Out of gas? Pick up anything on the side of the road and throw it in the tank. Instant fuel. No parking spot where you're going? No problem. Just store it back in the slate until you get ready to leave.

Just as a side note, the magic armor from the GameCube version of the Wind Waker had a different drain than that of the HD.
how bout the Double Hook ClawShot the Hookshot spike can split down the middle in four ways and become a claw but you can also use it as a hookshot

Not mentioning the bomb arrow being a combo item in links awakening before it was in breath of the wild and twilight princess feels like a huge oversight. The shieka slate being number one is hard for me. Maybe the most OP item but my favorite is probably the medallions from link to the past you never see another item with that level of power

Technically, you could have the Bomb Arrows in _Link’s Awakening_ and the _Oracle_ titles. Just equip Bombs and Arrows to your buttons and press both at the same time. I remember laughing like a maniac when I discovered that technique. “Nowhere is safe, bitches! AHAHAHAHAAA!!!”

paraglider bombs are how I, a Link with only 3 hearts and no weapons, cleared out moblin camps i was waaaaaaay to weak to directly assault lol

If the glorified tablet hadn't been the only major item used in BOTW, maybe I wouldn't dislike it so much. Four runes vs a giant empty sandbox where all of the "puzzles" are physics based, became boring very fast.

I honestly hated the magic Armor from Twilight princess. Oh sure it was great to be invulnerable and I suppose it's one good use was the final fight, but the fact that it drains rupees and then slows you down when it runs out is super annoying.
Why didn't you put in the boomerang or bow and arrows?

This is a great list, but I do have a few criticisms. Magic Armor should not be considered an item. I guess that technically you could argue that it's an item, but then you'd have to include swords and shields as well. You should have listed the bow instead of bomb arrows since they are just ammo for the bow. Would you put deku seeds on the list instead of the slingshot? Bottles were not a part of Zelda "from the beginning" as they didn't exist in the first two games at all. Other then that, this is a great list that I can't argue much with for the most part. The only changes I would have made (besides ordering those differently) are having bombs on the list and not having the spinner on it. In my opinion, the spinner wasn't all that cool. It's usefulness was just extremely limited, and it couldn't even be used to fight enemies or really even solve puzzles. Not saying it wasn't cool at all, just not top 10 worthy.
Maybe I am misremembering this, but I believe bomb arrows predate Twilight Princess. In Link’s Awakening for the GameBoy, you could use the A and B buttons to assign Bombs and the Bow & Arrow respectively. When you pressed both at the same time, explosive arrows would be used. *Edit* - I wasn’t crazy: th-cam.com/video/auhntOySNC0/w-d-xo.html but it’s yet to be confirmed if this is a glitch or not. I guess that makes it the spiritual ancestor.
it's not a glitch, i played that game a million times over and always used that combo.
No one could ever confirm to me that Marin didn't mess up her original wish and that her real wish would have been to go back with Link.
Not to mention the implication that it may have been more than just a dream. Because if it was just a dream then how did she become a seagull?
Making the implication that the word dream is linguistic slack fill for: being made of the magic of the wind fish sleeping. So the wind fish lied to you trick you into doing a genocide.
Plus we have the double slit experiment plot hole effect where in 1 ending she dies and in the other she becomes a seagull and said she was going to sing for the whole world. Okay? Then where's her song?! No where in cannon does her song ever play again implying that the "real" ending is that she just died!

Disappointed you dodn't mention the level 2 pegasus boots from four swords adventures which let you dash over pits, a featire I wish would come back and be more explored, plus FSA is one of the only games (the other being ancient stone tablets and arguable the oracles) where you can change direction mid dash without needing to cancel it.
Also I think it's a bit unfair to include the sheikah slate as one whole item, it'a more like the runes are each their own individual items, I also would classify the paraglider less as a traditional item and more like part of link's movement capabilities much like climbing, for the same reason you wouldn't call the ling of red lions from wind waker an item, but that's just me.
Also no switch hook from ages or magnet glove from seasons unfortunately, the oracles havecsome of the coolest items in the series honestly

I personally feel its kinda cheap to put the Switch... I mean Sheikah Slate... into the list. Sure it gives you a lot of possibilities in BotW, BUT it also feels far more forced as a gimmick to push the Switch promotion in the game, and because it can do so much in one item it takes away much of the typical Zelda content you would get from the multiple other items and the quests/dungeons associated with finding them.
True enough that it is more like multiple items under a single umbrella (Camera, multiple types of bombs etc) since you have to unlock them separately in shrines which are close to dungeons in use.
I still think that the potential applications of the ball and cube remote bombs (which are unlocked together) in BOTW alone stomps basically stomps everything but the bottle. Magnesis, Stasis and Cryonis are all pretty strong individually as well.
If they were individual items it would have been far more interesting when compared to previous Zelda titles. You still would have had a few missing from the typical games. You do upgrade them, but they are upgraded from the same person so it is once again simplified even more. And there has always been a map and inventory screen, while this makes sense to have a device for that... it is all just a cheesy way to put the Switch in the game, that is overly obvious what they were going for.
I'm slightly biased, I was not a big fan of BotW. It wasn't a bad game, but it didn't feel like a Zelda game, besides a few things if you removed the cut scenes and the written lore you wouldn't really know it was a Zelda title. Lots of potential that felt very unused to me for the series, and partially because of the limitations of the console(S).

The idea was to have a tablet screen from the very beginning I'm sure which mirrors the DS (Phantom Hourglass, map drawing, drawing boomerang paths) to the Wii U (there were two prior Zelda on Switch prior to BOTW). It wasn't just some cute Switch thing, but the game was revised to have no second screen use unlike the other Wii U games with maps and real time item change.
As far as items being more interesting if they were individual in the same way as older Zelda games, sure. I can see that it would come with unique aesthetics (rather than Sheikah Inc TM), properly distinct dungeons, bosses which actually depend on them (though Blights have a small bit of this - no one thinks they are great even if they like flexiblity) and such.
I still think BOTW is a enough of a Zelda game (the variety of races are accounted for and I got my WindWaker call back which no other console game did) and that bringing the systems together led in part to making the combat and movement systems incredibly flexible: twitter.com/Switch_movie_SS/status/1215689570018189312
It is also worth noting even if I haven't played and finished Zelda 1 that much of the direction comes from a callback to that. I still hope that they reign it in and have more strengths from the others of course.
For me the most useful items are the mastersword and the hylian shield

My favorite items are the Medallions from A Link to the Past, specifically the Bombos Medallion. I loved taking out a screen full of enemies with the explosive power. If the Champions abilities don't make a return in BOTW 2 I'd like to see something similar to the Medallions.
