I've always felt that each timeline split is linked with each piece of the triforce. Downfall being Power, Child being Wisdom and Adult Being Courage since each split focuses on the thing that the hero needs to overcome ganondorf.
While watching this I got an ad that started with: "You can't make more time"
I’ve never thought the Zelda timeline was ever confusing. It’s a linear story and then it splits into three timelines. I’m so tired of hearing how confusing it is when I’ve never seen as confusing.

Not really about time travel, but i wonder: It is said, that Link, Zelda and Ganondorf are bound by Demise curse to be reborn and fight the battle over and over again. However, I just noticed, that Impa seems to be linked to the curse aswell. She does make an appearance in 6 timepoints (7 if you count he oracles seperately). Has anyone ever explored why that might be?
I'm pretty sure that many people name their children after heroic figures from the past. Such is the case of the other "link" in OoT, the goron. Unlike the three who have the triforce whose spirits repeat, Impa is probably a common name for Sheikah women so the special chief most likely is not the soul.
I really want an oot remake for the switch. I don’t have much hope tho cuz of the 3DS remake being there already
RARU 2 there’s no point for another remake, it’s already remade on 3ds, get a 2ds for cheap then if you want to experience it.
That wasn't a remake, that was more of a remaster of sorts. A true remake would be amazing.

At 5:23, it's stated the there are "no loose ends" in the LoZ:SS. This is incorrect as Link indirectly created a timeline split when he destroyed (and/or sealed) both The Imprisoned (a.k.a. Demise) in the current age and Demise himself in the distant past! Destroying and sealing Demise away in the distant past would have removed The Imprisoned from the current age, thus removing the initiative for Link to protect the Sealed Grounds, and the initiative for Groose to work together with Link! Also, with The Imprisoned effectively removed from the timeline, what would become of Ghirahim and his drive to revive his master using Zelda and her powers inherited from the Goddess Hylia?
Dude this video was sooo good! I loved the simple explanation of different kinds of time travel using movie references, great analysis. I do kinda miss the Zelda unknown videos you used to make 5 years ago though, they got me really hyped for Zelda BotW back then. Hope to see some more of that again cos the sequel hype has basically died

Hey Commonwealth, I've noticed something in the Hyrule Castle Town Ruins that might be interesting to you. Some of the flags in the ruins bare a striking resemblence to the Gerudo symbol. Maybe a new video in the future???
One minor thing: It's a subtle difference, but I think Link is more ''Hitting the rewind button on the world" than "hopping back to his old body" in Majora's Mask. It better explains keeping things like the bow or the bank's hand stamp.

I subscribe to the theory that the respawn mechanic in the Zelda games is a form of time travel. When Link dies, he is transported back to a previous place where he can make new choices and change his fate.
The person who first told me of this theory suggested that this is the ability granted by the Triforce of Courage.

with this theory; "Majoras mask" becomes Links personal punishment, personal prison for his use of time traveling, time-tampering in ocarina of time. he lands himself in a timeloop because of his own actions in majoras mask. kind of weird and somewhat awsm
I'm pretty sure that the Link is the incarnation of the God of Time from Termina which has become a forgotten god of hyrule. It's why he reincarnates the same as Ganon (demise) and Zelda (hylia). That's where he gets his time reseting abilities and the hero even appears in the adult timeline because the god of time can traverse time. Though most think that the hero of windwaker is just a normal guy, I think that the spirit of link cannot be erased from time even by Zelda.
I theorize that the God of Time has been so diluted by his disapperance that some forgot his gender and starting calling him goddess of time as well... kind of a reach though.
My answer for at least the masks coming back with Link is that they are magical symbols. Within them is the sealed suffering of the people. That's why all the sidequest endings happen in the true ending and why they show the masks for any quests you missed. One could surmise that any other items which travel back are also magical or spiritually blessed in some manner.

I just noticed the time shift stones in Skyward Sword have Shiekah symbols inscribed on them. Does this mean the Shiekah forged them and built the robots we see in SS?

I do have a question. So when he goes through the gate of time, there's no timeline split? Could this mean that in hyrule warriors age of calamity there can't also not be a split? Cause the guardian went through a gate of time back to help princess zelda. Could this mean that it maybe created a loop where it goes back in time at the moment zelda wishes to save everyone? A never ending loop because the calamity, keeps happening no matter what they try therefore it is stuck in this loop. Could that even be possible you think?
But what if Ganon can stop time altogether?

My headcanon is that there is a timeline split in SS but we only see one part of it. The other would be to destroy the final Gate of Time after Ghirahim kidnaps Zelda and sacrifice her to save the present while leaving the past to wait for another hero.
Konrad can you make a video talking about how the Four Sword's existence in the timeline and why it didn't cross paths with the Master Sword. I know those games were made by Capcom, but it is Cannon because the games are apart of the timeline. Like why couldn't we find the Four Sword and the Master Sword in one single game?
Analyzing, researching, and speculating about the various forms of time travel in the Zelda series actually served to prepare me to do the same with the seven canonical Dragon Ball parallel timelines. Without Zelda, I wouldn't have been able to figure out the Dragon Ball timelines to the extent that I did.
What 7 timelines?
In the original Dragon Ball manga''s Future Trunks arc, there are four, but the Dragon Ball Super manga's Future Trunks arc introduced three more.

What if I told you time manipulation WAS in breath of the wild though? Each champion had a special, magical ability. Mipha could heal with mystic energy, urbosa can generate electric bolts, daruk can create a forcefield, and ravioli can summon wind.
Well, link is a champion, so what can he do? He manipulates time. In mid air, he slows everything around him to a near stand still so he can draw his bow in bullet time. When an enemy reaches for him, he slows time again to unleash a rapid flurry rush while his enemy is suspended in time.
Link in BOTW may not be able to travel in time, but link still manipulates it nonetheless
In Majora’s Mask, Link’s physical body must travel back in time because his hand has a stamp on it that tells the bank teller how many rupees he has.
I think in MM, I think time is rewound, leaving Link as he is but his items return to wear he found them.
So why does he still keep the masks.?
Umm... a wizard did it? Or maybe The Goddess?
Yeah, but even if his consciousness is sent back at the end, to warn Zelda about Canon it would be where the door is already opened and we can see that at the end that it is along with spiritual stones in place. But that would be impossible, because then he wouldn't have the Ocarina of time yet to open the door. So it would technically have to be in a different timeline or different reality for that to happen that led to the door already being opened.
I just assumed it would be easier to reuse assets from Age of Calamity for BotW2, so time travel as a plot point, and/or mechanic could work out fairly easily.
I think skyward did have a time split, but it would be one with the curse of demise and one without so we’d never actually have to see it as the Zelda games are the destiny of the hero the mortal incarnation of the goddess and the hatred and malice reborn.
No one could ever confirm to me that Marin didn't mess up her original wish and that her real wish would have been to go back with Link.
Not to mention the implication that it may have been more than just a dream. Because if it was just a dream then how did she become a seagull?
Making the implication that the word dream is linguistic slack fill for: being made of the magic of the wind fish sleeping. So the wind fish lied to you trick you into doing a genocide.
Plus we have the double slit experiment plot hole effect where in 1 ending she dies and in the other she becomes a seagull and said she was going to sing for the whole world. Okay? Then where's her song?! No where in cannon does her song ever play again implying that the "real" ending is that she just died!

Well if you ever played Final Fantasy X, Tidus and Jecht were also dreams as well. Yet Tidus does exsist in the world of Spria even after the loss of Aeons.

Actually a new link will not be arriving to termina. If hyrules time continues the flows normally. And the time loop is from the moment link leaves the clock tower not. From when he fails down the hole.
Those stones in lanayru desert are no longer seen in any part of the story. Is like they are gone. They have the sheikah eye, maybe they were created by the sheikah? What i don't understand is where are those stones for not seeing them again. Or why is the gate of time of lanayru desert nowhere to be seen? That place doesn't have any dungeon or spring. But is the place we receive the goddess harp by zelda herself. I'd like to see it again since it is supposed to be an important place for the time gate

Great explanation, but nothing will convince me that the mere possibilities of Link in OoT winning or losing creates in itself two separate timelines. There's only one timeline where adult Zelda remained and one where Link is sent back to. If he died there isn't even that one.

In Canon, the downfall timeline only occurs when link falls to Ganon. Then Ganon's able to retrieve all three pieces of the triforce while in beast form due to proximity. This is why only Ganon appears in the downfall timeline while ganondorf shows up in both child and adult timelines.
If link falls in battle to a monster, Zelda never reveals herself as Sheik in disguise and Ganon(dorph) never finds the other two pieces of the triforce. His reign merely ends with him since the power triforce isn't enough to be all powerful.

@@stevenhicks7613 The fall timeline has to do with Link falling at the battle with ganon specifically. Not any monster. My proposition here is that either Zelda is presenting us with an infinite multiverse theory, win which for every possibility there is a different universe in which it happened, or they're proposing that they are not sure of what happened, so they made two theoretically possible outcomes. But the proposed timeline is a schrodinger problem, and if the infinite multiverse is the answer here, then there is a timeline for each individual possible choice Link made ever

If you think about it, Zelda technically could have returned BOTH of them to the past using the Song of Time instead of her lullaby. That way, both of them would have remembered the events that transpired, and it would NOT result in a timeline split. (We know they would remember, as Tatl remembers everything when her and Link rewind time in MM) Zelda would merely be rewinding time, just as Link does in Majora’s Mask. Terrible thinking by Zelda in OOT.
it is really not possible to alter the future, the only possible way it is altered is that an entirely new timeline gets made every time Link jumps back in time, and no Link would exist in the timeline he jumped from in ocarina of time.

moutray77 - It’s probably just in stasis for a second, since there’s no indication that OoT runs on San Dimas time. The course of events pauses when Link isn’t present.
I don't understand why people think time travel is confusing. Every time someone says that in media, it's actually very simple.

I would *lose it* in happiness if the Gate of Time appears again in BotW 2. That goes for Fi too. Hell, anything from Skyward Sword would be hype
The Gate of Time will definitely not return. Why? Because it was destroyed. There were only two Gates of Time, both of which were destroyed by Impa.
Elite gamer I mean, do we KNOW that the second one was destroyed? All we saw was that it dissolved into golden light. Maybe Young Impa just deactivated it in the past, causing it to disappear in the present?

There is a timeline split in skyward sword because link destroyed both demises is the cause of it, and the current timeline that the skyward sword Link and Zelda are in that's called the peaceful timeline the reason you don't hear about it is because it's peaceful there's no gameplay no books on that timeline because well you know, just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean it doesn't exist, for instance do you know who I am? No does that mean I don't exist to you, it doesn't, that's what I'm just saying to you.

I hope not. I believe that time travel is a band-aid for a weak idea, story or plot. Don't get me wrong, I love Zelda games and most of them are my favorites. However, if the writing was stronger then Nintendo wouldn't have to rely of time travel, especially over and over again. It worked in OoT and MM because both games were all about time travel, it was integral to the story and plot. However, it felt shoehorned in SS just so the story would make any sense. It was just bad storytelling. I would rather Nintendo simply use better storytelling.
