    For me it’s the sand blower In Skyward. I could enjoy a spinoff where Link just cleand driveways of leafs or mops up dusty places with it. Especially the sand pits were fun -the scorpion boss that got in the way.

    • @daniel_361
      @daniel_361 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There was this one room in Skywards Sword which was full of sand and you just needed to clean a little bit. I did not leave until the whole room was clean. The longer you take, the more exasperated Fi gets and tells you (paraphrased): "Master, there _really_ isn't anything left in the room, please let go already"

    The 3 main masks from MM are really amazing. Switching between different species gives you a very versatile move set and it's used constantly through out the game.
    Honestly surprised this concept hasn't been copied all over the place. Hope to see more of this in the future.

    • @Nefnoj
      @Nefnoj ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Any item that has link play as another character is automatically good. Majora's Mask's masks, the animal flutes in the Oracle games, Midna, they add a new layer to the puzzle solving and exploration. Majora's Mask did it best, since the dungeons wrap around them, a bow-and-arrow upgrade, and typically a third item you find before entering the dungeon, for a really cool dynamic in the dungeons.

    • @Celestia282
      @Celestia282 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It was a cool gimmick at the time, but at the end of the day, having to go into your inventory, fiddle with menus, and watch a cutscene just to access a different part of your basic movement is more hassle than fun. It's better to just give the player that movement without unnecessary extra steps. So, I completely understand why games didn't copy it.

    • @daniel_361
      @daniel_361 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@Celestia282 MM 3D actually mitigated this issue. If I recall correctly, it had the main 4 transformation masks mapped to a specific point in the menu, so you always had them at hand directly.

    • @jonsmith5058
      @jonsmith5058 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Celestia282 dude, thats just a UI issue.
      The iron and hover boots had the same issue in OOT and were corrected later.
      The MM Randomizer already fixed this issue in the original game by permanently mapping the masks and ocarina to the D pad, they also fixed a worse issue, the elegy song.
      It would be really cool to play as a Goron or Zora again

    As much as I enjoy the double clawshots the best hookshot-like item for me is the Phantom Hourglass grappling hook. All the normal function of a 2d hookshot (plus being able to aim any direction) BUT it can also be used between any 2 points to set up a tightrope you can walk across, OR use as a slingshot for Link to cross gaps, OR ricochet arrows off of. Just feels so useful and oh so fun

  • @JustSomePasserby
    @JustSomePasserby ปีที่แล้ว +7

    My personal favorite is the grappling hook from Phantom Hourglass. What is supposedly just a hook on a rope always tends to become a reality-bending weapon in Zelda games.
    There is just something satisfying about connecting enemies together with the rope and watching annihilate like matter and antimatter, clearing out whole rooms without ever touching your sword.

  • @awkwardGardener

    • @JJ_5289

      I love TP, but I do wish these items had a bit more functionality after you get them. It was definitely the height of Zelda's one item per dungeon problem. Even the basic items like the boomerang take a backseat once you leave their dungeon.

    • @awkwardGardener
      @awkwardGardener ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Olthar oh, I definitely agree. They're some of the most fun items, but only really in their dungeon. At least the spinner saw a few uses outside in some easy puzzles in the overworld and the Baller Chain was fun to use in combat, but the Dominion Rod was totally thrown to the side and unused after you find and fix the chicken cannon

      I've always been rather lukewarm towards the bow. It's hard to aim in the 2D games because of how quickly enemies move around, and the sword combat in the 3D games is solid enough that the bow is only needed for flying enemies. I hardly use it outside of puzzles.
      That said, BotW changed the formula enough that the bow is godly in that game. It's so useful for combat.

    It might be a bit of bias on my part, but I honestly prefer the Sheikah Slate. With something that lets you cross rivers with a build-it-yourself bridge, stop objects and enemies in their tracks, use any metal object as a weapon, or even just making a limitless supply of bombs, the only limit I see to the Sheikah Slate before the Ultrahand is your imagination. Even better is how it got integrated into Age of Calamity. Is a boss-level enemy readying a powerful attack? Just use the right rune at the right time to leave them wide open to attack for game.

    I definitely agree with the Ball & Chain, but one item that I love in every zelda game it's in and wasn't mentioned (and better than the Bomb Arrows in my opinion) is the Ice Arrow. Once an enemy is frozen, the next attack is doubled. I used to destroy Stalfos in Ocarina of Time with it and now in Breath of the Wild I can use two handed weapons to their fullest and destroy the toughest varients and even the Gardian Scout mini bosses. So long as it's not a boss, it is a life saver and the best to do max damage on one opponent in one hit.
    On a similar note, I also loved Deku Sticks.

    My 2 favorites were bomb arrows and the ball n' chain. The former because it has the power of bombs, but fixed it's main issues (range, precision, applicability) as a weapon. Also, they were just fun, being able to use the closest equivalent to a rocket launcher in a zelda game. Only thing we were missing in TP was rocket jumping and using it with a deku leaf equivalent. Oh well, BotW has us covered on that end.
    The ball and chain I like because it's the opposite of the bomb arrows. Unwieldly, impractical, slow. But I remember in the short time I played A Link to the Past, I fricken hated the ball and chain enemy that was guarding Zelda, and it just felt so good to be one of those assholes to all of my enemies. It may not have been an effective weapon for the most part, but just like the bomb arrows, it was a fun one!

    It's so fun to see items that I found kind of lackluster/underutilized got new life breathed into them in the Hyrule Warriors games. Your list is very different than mine, but nothing but respect!

    My favorite item has got to be the Magnetic Gloves from Oracle of Seasons. Its your hookshot equivalent, but done in an unique never-seen-before way. A very neat surprise and one of the reasons why OoS is my favorite 2D Zelda.

    May not be in order, but here's at least some:
    1. The guardian abilities (they may not be items per se, but still).
    2. Glider/Leaf.
    3. Guardian arrows, since they delete most enemies.
    4. Hook Shot.
    5. The Gorudo Heirloom that makes you immune to lightning.
    Combine #5 with metal weapons during a storm, and your a weaponized human lightning rod. Badass! 👍🏻

    Something I've been wanting since Hyrule Warriors is a time-travel mashup. A future Link goes back to classic games, but each one has something wrong, like some irregularity that those who played the game will freak out over. "Why is there a deku stick where Fi is supposed to be? What is Tingle doing in ? WHERE IS THE OLD MAN?" It would have lore added to solidify the Zelda timeline/branches.
    Also, 2:55. Bomb arrows existed in Link's Awakening, you just needed to have bombs and arrows, and push both A and B at the same time.

    I'm gonna have to go with something maybe a little mundane but I'd say Ice Arrows! Only, I'm not sure if I'd prefer Majora's Mask's iteration or Wind Waker's. Majora's Mask has the puzzle and utility elements down pat (frozen platforms and freezing certain enemies to allow extra traversal methods) while Wind Waker-and Breath of the Wild but to a lesser extent of satisfaction and fun-has great combat applications (it's very satisfying to see the Mothula miniboss be frozen and plummet to the ground only to shatter on impact and be defeated not to mention freezing other enemies and letting them fall, be thrown, or whacking them with the hammer to shatter them as well!).
    I definitely wish they bring back the elemental arrows for a more traditional Zelda game one day and combine the ideas the Ice Arrows introduced in Majora's Mask and Wind Waker while iterating them with other ideas... Like combining elemental arrows! Fire and Ice arrows to create a smokescreen out of mist! That'd be fun!

    The beetle from Skyward Sword was the perfect combination of useful and fun to use. Plus, the Gustbellows never gets the love it deserves- Nintendo got a weird amount of practicality out of a magical reverse-hoover
