Such an absolute pleasure listening to this from you guys. John, so honest and forthcoming. Humble and driven. And Erik, so kind and such a wealth of knowledge. Thank you both for sharing this info, being honest with yourselves and us, just wow, always blown away by both of your character.
This! This has been a "slap in the face" for me! I'm struggling along with a 7 rem mag. Doing everything John has done and struggling mentally with the same stuff with my $10,000 yugo. Thank you guys! Thank you Erik for these interviews and thank you John for sharing your story!
F class John is well known amongst Aussie precision (and those who just like going down never ending rabbit holes) shooters. Thanks to both of you for sharing your shooting with us.
The only two guys I religiously follow on TH-cam! Such a great interview and when John told his story of RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor I felt so close to him because he shared that story with me not long ago! John’s response to my question put things in a whole new light for me. As I responded to John I am going to hone my reloading techniques and continue to learn from both of you! You both are just plain great people that this world needs more of! Thanks for all you guys do!
Very good. One thing that made this much more watchable...and part of it is the guests willingness to engage...you let HIM talk much more. A good interviewer lets the guest talk 80% of the time (or more) Great job Eric!
For the majority of people this will be by far the most useful interview in an already excellent series. Full marks to John for describing his ‘journey’ in an honest ‘warts & all’ manner.
This is the best thing on the internet for me! My 2 mentors,, Whether they know it or not. Mr Erik for his OCD style of doing things and attention to details..” how you do anything is how you do everything”,,,,,Mr John, for his humbleness and attitude like “ no matter how good you are,, there will always be someone better, so listen”,,,and his straight up honesty. Both of them for their passion towards the sport they love.. Couldn’t be better people to study and learn from.. Thanks to both of you! Barry Oakes
This made me laugh so hard as I am also an RPR guy in 6.5 creedmore. I mounted one of Erik’s tuners last week on it and my 3rd 3 shot group at 100 yards measured .066. Smallest group I have ever shot. Thanks for a great product. I will be getting more!
Erik thanks for doing these videos. Thanks to Erik,Jack,Lou, FC John...yall really help us with proven things that saved me tons of mo ey and time. If you don't pass on your knowledge it will be lost..
This was a great wake up call because my goal isn’t F class - it’s just having fun shooting out to 1000 for fun. I love the advice because some of its applicable but it also shines a line on what a rabbit hole you can easily fall down by not making up your mind and sticking to one path. Thanks a ton for this series Erik - this one was another home run
Great interview. Your comment to John really says it all. “If you’re not going to follow my advice, don’t call me!” So many of my own problems have been from me trying to figure things out on my own and not being teachable with the advice you’ve already given. Thank you for the blueprints you have laid out for all of us to be able to succeed!
What John had go thru as starter, lets appreciate it- a complete newb, can watch 10 hours or so of youtube videos from these two, and come up with amazing rifle set up, plus learn how to load ammo nicely, using lapua/alpha brass, berger bullets, great consistent powders such as varget, h1000, h4350, and like federal primers or whatever, and become quite a good shooter. Dont even need to spend 3k. Buy mack bros action for 580, krg bravo for whatever it is like 350, bartlein barrel, arken scope, good trigger... and go bananas, would be way better than any factory rifle, and have resale value. edit: by the way, COPY THAT WORKS quote from Erik, i actually do not even shoot, do not own rifle, but one day i will, and been doing research on and off for past 4 years or so, because from long ago one quote stuck to me... "To be the best, you gotta learn from the best" - Magic Johnson.
Thank you to both of you. First Eric for the great interview. Second John for the honesty. That should help anyone that is honest with themselves. I am too old to be shooting F-Class and I'm not close to any real long ranges. At the moment 200 yards is what I get to practice on and 300 once a year with a bunch of other old farts. But that doesn't that I'm not serious with what I'm doing. I appreciate the lessons both of you have taught. I spent considerable time teaching folks to fly. The most valuable thing pilots can do is be honest with their mistakes. That is what you two have done. Many Thanks.
Your on a winner with this format, listen, laughed and cringed with embarrassment. Been there done that and hopefully now with good advice and a clarified mind. It's onward and upward. Hopefully. Thanks Gentlemen
Thanks for another great film. Love the ec tuner brake !! If any of you are contemplating buying one of Erik’s tuners, I can vouch for his business, that he is great to do business with and his tuner brakes are very efficient for reducing recoil, maybe the best that I have tested or used. The tuner philosophy works !! It’s very eye opening when you turn the dial and see the precision of the groups tighten up.
Thank you Erik. Thank you John. I think failures are just as important if not more important for learning. And those who pay attention learn from others failures and successes. This was an important conversation.
My two favorite channels for precision rifle content in the same video!! What an outstanding conversation. As a guy who is constantly reaching out to my shooting mentors, the story about listening to the advice your given really hits home! Thanks for doing these great videos
Another great interview! I find myself being "stubborn to the obvious", at times. However, being able to relate, makes the educational experience all the more better, for me! Thank you, both!
Erik and John this was excellent thank you for taking the time and generosity for sharing your knowledge with this interview and your channels, your contributions to the shooting sports are much appreciated, please keep up the good work
I shot in my F-Class match this past weekend. TN State Championship. Five matches over two days. Shot 886, 7X. I took a Pinto to the Indy 500. I got whipped on pretty bad. The only thing that kept me from being last is there were 3 that didn't come back for day 2. All the info yal have given to us, and the welcoming ambassadors at the match was like drinking from a firehose. Each match I kept improving my scores, because there were so many of the other competitors giving me advice. Unfortunately, there wasn't an F-P/R category. I was still allowed to shoot with the muzzle brake but none of my loads were tuned up as I didn't have enough time to train. It was a last minute decision on my part, because I wasn't cleared by my doc to use my hand for anything more than 5lbs until Thursday. Anyways, it was so much fun to shoot with Mike Francis, Barry Holcomb, Tyler Pope, Boots, Danny Biggs (I actually was privileged enough to take Danny his Berger Bullets jacker, cause he left it up at the firing line.) David Adkins was there as well. It was windy and these guys still shot in the upper 900s. Some other notable names: Clint Roberts, Stephen Dean, and Kim Thorne were also there. I shot my PRS rifle using a CKYE bipod & and a squeeze bag in 6.5 CM so I was way outgunned by the .284s and a 300 WSM. There were a couple guys shooting .223 in F-T/R. They were shooting amazing scores for a .223. All I can say is how you handload truly makes HUGE differences in how accurate the ammo is. My very well loaded rounds hit way more 10s and Xs than I did on Saturday with ammo I hadn't placed much effort into. Simply having proper angled chamfers can impact the round. I saw it firsthand folks. GET OUT AND SHOOT IN THESE COMPS!!! It's so much fun. No kidding, those guys welcomed me in like I had always been shooting with them. Big shout out to Russell who ran the match as our F-Class director has been ill. Russ Thuerer was also there helping us out. If you haven't heard of Russ, he used to hold like 17 records nationally. Also, Mike Francis is on the US Rifle Team. Watching these guys with tons of experience under their belt was such a privilege. The smooth, relaxed movements and how they kept their weld to the rifle was impressive. Keep em coming Erik! FC-John, I've watched a ton of your vids and youve helped me out a lot also.
Great stuff between you and FCJ! I really like how open you two are when talking, you guys sound more like family. Thanks for sharing your time and personal conversations with us!
One of the best interview's I have watched.Very humbling as well. Goes to show that even the best people have gone through a learning curve. Thanks Eric and John
I've been watching F-Class John and you for about the last year and really dig the channels... Again I love these interviews they're very interesting keepem coming!!!
Hey Erik Another awesome interview mate , John is an interesting guy great shooter and he’s modest and humble , I love his channel FClass alone with yours , thanks for the sessions man keep em coming , Steve from Aussie.
Best interview yet! Most all of us shooters have a similar story of starting with off the rack gear. It’s hard to jump into this sport with both feet when you don’t know anything including if you will like it. If you can, you are miles ahead. Thanks Erik and John for all the great free information and experience you bring to us. It’s a treasure.
OMG, this conversation is a complete duplicate for me only with my clients in the hunting rifle world. Especially the end of the interview (you're wasting air). I have clients that I constantly "help" only to have them stray off in a different direction and fail. Great interview, probably your best. Well done.
F Class John ! He’s really good ! I’m subscribed to him too, and really enjoy watching his humor ! Thx John and thank you Erik ! This is one of the best podcasts ever ! Well for us shooters
Another great interview thank you Erik.... I've been researching rifles for the past year or so and have gone thru a lot of different choices because the more I learn about shooting the more I have been able to narrow down what I want in a rifle and what I want it for. I (almost) fell into that same PRS trap John was speaking of but it didn't ever quite appeal to me so I kept researching and researching day after day until I just decided to get a Savage 12 LRPV in 6mm Norma and a Nightforce Benchrest 8-32... I almost bought a Sako in a 6.5 Creedmoor but I am so glad I didn't because that is not the direction I want to go in. Guys like you, Erik and Fclass John have helped me figure out that eventually I think I do want to get into Benchrest or F-class of some sort.. I know it's not some amazing setup but I didn't want to start with that. I want to learn the ins and outs of reloading first. I want to start with the basics and go from there. So anyway thanks to both of y'all for all of your knowledge and sharing it with everyone who is interested. It means a lot!
Just dawned on me listening to this interview why it's so enjoyable to listen to your all your different interview of people (besides the great info). You are a great interviewer. Your polite, you know the right questions to ask and just great to listen to. If you ever get tired of your construction business, you would make a great interviewer on a show like Steve Bannon War Room or some such conservative internet news program. I'm not kidding. You'd be great and would soon have a great following.
I immediately gave this a like for seeing John's face! Good stuff. You can't convert a Yugo into a NASCAR winner no matter how much money you pump into it.
Sounds like you guys know some really awesome people and are lucky to have awesome friends like this. It gives me the shivers to hear your stories. I really like it. Looking forward to hear more stories of other top shooters you know 🙂👍🏻
Great video Erik.. I sure hope more shooters take your advice and don't go chasing the different rabbit holes like I sure did. I shoot mid-range benchrest and the best thing I did was to finally use what has been tested and won with.
Well Erik, you’ve topped Lou’s interview! Of course I might be biased as John and I used to belong to the same club and crossed paths in IPSC and 600 as we found out. I stumbled on his channel and probably the best concept testing outside your tech casts. But now we know all the stumbles and dead ends John went through to get competitive in F-Class.
You said it all Erik towards the end of the interview and that’s why I follow people like you and John , Listen too and don’t doubt what they’re saying they saying it to try and help you , I have learned heaps from you Mate and think of you as my online mentor . Steve from Aussie .
Watching your videos helped me not to go down that rabbit hole thank you just started LV/HV shoot for group with 6BR Norma and i am hooked my factory guns not seeing much action
I've always been of the mindset I want to know for sure it's me and not the tool. Commit to the best upfront and you'll get better fast because you know you are the limiting factor. Same with competition, you get better being pushed by the best and learning from them.
A jack of all trades is a master of non; but, still always better then a master at one. Thank you guys🎯🎯🎯lots of amazing knowledge thank you for passing it on.
What an awesome interview or what I call study sessions for me as I’m getting into F Open here in Australia using my Tikka T3X in .308 learning the trade and I’ll build a custom F Open rifle soon as I know I’m already addicted haha well long story short was told to build a 7mm SAUM over a 284 or 284 Shihane and I’ve done my study with you two legends for a while now and this has definitely made up my mind on a 284. Keep up the amazing work both of you gents 👊🏻💯
@@ErikCortina I don’t know who he is but I have spoken to David Kerr he’s a pretty prominent shooter he in Western Australia not sure if you’ve heard of him mate but he’s basically said to me if you want to win and want to be competitive you need to build a 7mm rifle he didn’t say what but I think he referred to the .284 👌🏻
@@ErikCortina hell I just looked and he shoots only an hour and a half from my home range where I live can’t wait for that interview to come out might just have to sign up to your website 🙌🏻👊🏻
Thanks, Eric. I’m not a F-Class shooter but try to compete in .22 Benchrest. I’m on my third rifle (a custom) that should have been my first. Love your loading advice too.
Hi Erik. I’ve watched several of you videos and you had mentioned a name that I was familiar with. Bill Shehane. If that’s the same guy I used to shoot with back in the late 90’s in North Carolina. We shot 1000 yard BR at Hawks Nest. He was quite the character. Nice guy. I remember when he was first developing his rifle stocks. Small world. Good luck with the new tuner.
I think Eric is the most famous F-class competitor in the world. Every reloader in the world with an internet connection knows him 😁 And a reloading neckdie sale dropped worldwide like a piano from the balcony 🙃
Great interview Erik and John. Gathered great info as I am just getting into shooting F Class style rifles for fun, maybe compete in the future. Erik, the list you rattled off has a lot of components that I want to have in a rifle. Is there a shop that sells complete rifles? I have been looking for a place near me to build on but haven’t had any luck.
I will never forget the first time i shot a very accurate gun. I had been shooting several rimfires and a sako in .222 all day at 50 yards on his property with moa being a good group and only a few sub moa. Then my uncle got out his brno with it's favorite eley. Instantly it was .5 moa to 1 moa every group. It sure can be the rifle.
eric and john your like the alexia of the rifle world people look up to you guys for all there answers and unfournatley we dont ask the right questions
Done deal, definitely gonna build a 284 Win 😂 🏆 Been a long dream to build a nice long range gun. Can’t thank you two enough! We are spoiled young shooters that get to take short cuts cause of your time blood sweat and especially tears John ! 😂. Literally paved the fasktrak for us !
Thanks so much Eric for all of the valuable insights! Feels like I'm watching a mini-series on TV! Great to see John in person too :) Regarding the 284 for F-Class and the Brux barrel....is there a particular reamer dimension that your can recommend if the intent is to neck turn Lapua Brass?
@@planeiron241 Thank you! I'm not a competitor, just want to build a custom 284 for long range accuracy. I'll give them a call next week...much appreciated!
This is spot on. I got into reloading for fun with my 270 win I wanted to make a Remingotn 783 to shoot one hole groups at 100 till I met a gunsmith said u want a cartridge that’s provided good bullets and brass so I went with a heavy barrel Remingotn 700 6.5 creed. Upgrade trigger chassi and nf scope right after that I build a 300 Norma mag custom for long range and hunting ... I’ll hope to rebarrel my 6.5 to a custom barrel it’s so worth it!! Once custome never go back
Love the attitude of john

Thank you for these Erik, tons of knowledge and information being shared.
You said it all Erik towards the end of the interview and that’s why I follow people like you and John , Listen too and don’t doubt what they’re saying they saying it to try and help you , I have learned heaps from you Mate and think of you as my online mentor . Steve from Aussie .
Two class acts. Thanks, gentlemen.
Watching your videos helped me not to go down that rabbit hole thank you just started LV/HV shoot for group with 6BR Norma and i am hooked my factory guns not seeing much action
LMFAO. Who knew the talking hand of knowledge had such a great personality, lol. Great interview. What a great guy. Thanks Eric.
I shoot midrange F Open with an RPR. Better to shoot with what you have and learn than not to shoot at all in my opinion.
Eric these video's are great thanks so much for the knowledge from all of you guys.
Thank you. I just want to be famous enough to have people spell my name correctly! lol
@@ErikCortina lol 😂 @ Erik lol 😂
Man I want shoot a F-Class shoot between you two. Bucket list. Thanks for your time and info. This is great and very much appreciated. Cheers Justin
Thank you guys🎯🎯🎯lots of amazing knowledge thank you for passing it on.
thanks to erik, I have a rifle being built with a Defiance action and a Brux barrel with a nightforce scope in 6 dasher
It's a long and winding road................Thanks, you guys nailed it !!!
John is so relatable. I love this guy.
Two great sources of info on the same video! Nice to SEE you John! Greetings from South Africa 🇿🇦
I interviewed Rod Davis yesterday. You may know who he is. 😁
Best interview yet
Thanks, Eric. I’m not a F-Class shooter but try to compete in .22 Benchrest. I’m on my third rifle (a custom) that should have been my first. Love your loading advice too.
My two favorites in one video
Great interview guys! Love both of your channels! Keep them coming Erik!!
Now this is what I’ve been wanting to see! Thank you guys!
Johns a good dude. Been working with him on V4 AutoTrickler beta testing.
This was great! I laughed my but off... Loved the stories....
John is such a nice guy he is fair with his reviews of products
Love this series, thanks, Erik.
eric and john your like the alexia of the rifle world people look up to you guys for all there answers and unfournatley we dont ask the right questions
I enjoy both your content. Nice seeing you guys together.
Done deal, definitely gonna build a 284 Win 😂 🏆
Been a long dream to build a nice long range gun.
Can’t thank you two enough! We are spoiled young shooters that get to take short cuts cause of your time blood sweat and especially tears John ! 😂. Literally paved the fasktrak for us !
Thank you !!! These videos are great !!!
John is always looking for new ways. We have to prove things for ourselves. I think John is a frustrated drag racer in another life ! Lol lol
Thanks so much Eric for all of the valuable insights! Feels like I'm watching a mini-series on TV! Great to see John in person too :) Regarding the 284 for F-Class and the Brux barrel....is there a particular reamer dimension that your can recommend if the intent is to neck turn Lapua Brass?
just call JGS reamer co, they will set u up
@@planeiron241 Thank you! I'm not a competitor, just want to build a custom 284 for long range accuracy. I'll give them a call next week...much appreciated!
@@chazt4863 either call JGS or Hugh Henricksen (Hugh IMHO makes the beast reamers available) ask any competitive 6mm PPC shooter.
@@markthegunplumber8376 Mark, thanks for the contact!
