This is also why I loved the B1/OOM series battle droids so much, as they were a basic grunt that could be asked to do anything an organic infantryman could do.
But the AAT is awful. It has a giant weakspot right in the middle of it in the form of the giant and useless frontal hatch, plus the terrible rocket launchers that are positioned in such a way that both compromises the frontal armor by having giant cut-outs in it filled with explosives and are completely ineffective as a weapon since they are fired from the lowest point of the tank and would immediately detonate if they came across debris or hills (which in battlefields kinda happens a lot). And that's not even mentioning the pointless fixed laser cannons or the idiotically tall and wide profile. It's a terrible design of a tank.
The AAT's main gun is nimble enough to track and down Naboo N-1 Starfighters as they tried to leave the Theed Hanger. Another plus, many modern MBTs are vulnerable to air attack, so it's nice to have a tank that can bite back.

I think that for imperials you should have used one tank from the line of "imperial-class repulsortank" where you find the 1-L, 1-M and 1-H (ligth, medium and heavy). For example the ligth one is similar to the rebel t2-b but is faster, better armed (one medium blaster Canon) but without shields.
When you think about it, the TX-225 seems more to fit the role of an assault gun, meant to bolster the firepower of the infantry around it as well as providing support against more hard enemy positions, or even light to medium armor (considering what it did to that building in Rogue One, those cannons does seem to slouch in term of power). It's like the various Stug models fielded by the Germans in WW2, and when you look at the TX-225 from this angle, it actually becomes a rather good design for an infantry support assault gun.

I think overall the TX-130 is the more effective vehicle. As you said, it is a very fast vehicle and its armament is effective at engaging both infantry and vehicles. That means that it is capable of easily outmaneuvering enemy units, allowing it to effectively strike vulnerable areas while still being effective in direct combat. The AAT has the advantage in firepower but the difference in speed means that opposing forces have much more time to react and maneuver against them. Obviously in the case of direct assaults against heavily fortified positions the AAT may be a better choice depending on opposing force capabilities, but in terms of large scale conflicts the TX-130 would be a much more viable option because it is able to be more effective across a wider range of scenarios. I think that the AAT is a good option for direct assaults and fortification of strategic positions. The TX-130 however, is much more practice for maneuver warfare. The TX-130 would also prove a much more effective choice in irregular warfare because of how quickly it would be able to react to hit and run tactics while also being able to effectively conduct hit and run strikes itself.
Hey, there's something I would urge you to look at at some point that's pretty interesting called the Protodeka. It was featured in the old Star Wars: The Clone Wars video game that I used to play on the original xbox (man, those were some great days in my childhood). It was basically a very large hovering weapons platform that served as a boss fight in at least two places in the game, if memory serves. Here's a link to the wiki page: starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Protodeka Should help you get started if you ever deem it worthy of being featured in a vid. I'm sure there's a few youtube videos floating around of it as well. Love your channel and content! You seem like the kind of guy who would be fun to have lunch with and talk Star Wars for a few hours.
The Republic's TX-130 tank was also used in the Star Wars: Clone Wars video game on Playstation 2 and the original Xbox, if I'm remembering that correctly. Easily one of my favorite tanks.
My favorite Star Wars tank of all time is still the TX-130 tank. I thought it was badass back when I first got 2002's Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and I still think that today. You're right about it's main advantage being speed, the Battlefront games had to weaken it for balancing issues but I remember it could easily go toe to toe with most CIS tanks, I think it's main rival was the Homing Spider Droids, just because those didn't need to turn around to shoot you. It's interesting you compare the tank to a Jedi, because I'm pretty sure in the booklet for The Clone Wars it's compared to the "Jedi Starfighter of the ground" for it's speed and maneuverability. Great video, keep it up!
Everyone that plays Star Wars commander knows the Tx-225 is the best tank , that think is bunker buster , it destroys everything in its path. The problem with this comparisons is that all of this vehicles have different roles . The saber tank is clearly a tank destroyer with all of its missiles and medium weapons is fire everything retreat look for another attack angle hit them everything and retreat and start the process all over again. The AAT is a main battle tank . Heavy armor , good all around fire power with some some weak spots like the turret ring that can be exploited by a thermal detonator or rocket , the power cells and the back that can be taken out by fast nimble vehicles like the AT RT or BARC speeder. The Tx-225 is like a land battleship from ww1 relatively slow good frontal sloped armor, good against rockets and blaster fire and big weapons to clean a path over enemy positions, like buildings or streets. The rebel tank shows the alliance lack of vision, I mean a tank designed to take out infantry and maybe some low level flying fighters. Two departments where the rebel Alliance really doesn’t need help specially because the tank is susceptible to proton torpedoes, rockets , and even heavy blasters like E-web blasters.
I dunno what you mean with the rebel tank. Stormtroopers are lethal against rebels, so a tank dedicated to killing them is well worthwhile. Its not like the rebels have a chance of defeating the larger walkers with ground armor, so it would be a waste to build a tank focused on killing heavy armor. The anti-personnel tank with high speed makes alot of sense for that purpose, avoid enemy armor and kill enemy infantry.

Thunderbolt Starfury from Babylon 5 vs the Sabre from Halo Reach. VF-1S Valkyrie variable fighter from SDF Macross (not Robotech) vs the Union Overflag from Gundam 00. Talgeese from Gundam Wing vs the Grimgerde from Gundam IBO.
Wasn’t that rebel alliance hovertank featured in Star Wars rogue squadron on the n64 in one of the levels? The level where you have to fly cover against fighters while the tanks were providing cover for supply transport hover vehicles?
Ever since I have really got into Star Wars (at around 8 or 9), I think the AAT was my favorite tank, out of ANY SHOW OR ANYTHING THAT EXISTS/EXISTED, I just LOVE the AAT, the design, the armament, the effectiveness, almost EVERYTHING.
I love the T2B. It was an excellent scout and spotter for artillery strikes and bombing runs. The shields also made it unbeatable against regular infantry unless there were 4 or more infantry squadrons, where their damage per second overcame the T2B's ability to recharge shields. One strategy in multiplayer was to make use of the "Hunt" ability, which splits up the 5-tank squadron and lets them all operate independently. They seek out and destroy any targets, though more likely they'll just fight and hold their opponent in place. If you do this with several squadrons of tanks, the enemy will be overwhelmed on multiple fronts as you manually control your heavier tanks. I've had multiple people quit on me when I use this strategy. It's not as effective against AI since the AI can multitask.
I wholeheartedly agree with the choices/places on the list. Being the 'tank nut' I am, I have to note that many Early WW2 Russian Heavy Tanks (KV Series) had rear turret machine guns, and the idea was scrapped because (as you said) if used with supporting infantry it would be fine, not to mention the additional storage for ammo and the maintenance. Also the AAT is lightly armored in the back with all it vital systems there, can't argue with that, but there really is no other place to put them (can't put in center since all the crew are there) + heavy armor on the back of a tank is usually not beneficial for speed, and cost since it rarely is used. Sorry for the rant. Love your channel!
From what I can tell, the AAT was designed to be fielded in large set piece battles in lines or in close spaces where it can funnel enemies in front of it, therefore negating its weak spot. Only what I can tell tough
The AAT has to be my favorite. Idk why but that big cannon on the top just makes that tank look like a mobile artillery unit. Plus the large mortar tubes in the front give it a nice anti armor roll. If there was a droid on top with a repeating blaster it would be a far mor perfect tank. Im glad we agree on this being our fav, 2 great minds think alike lol Loved the video and how you included that crappy rebellion tank. Keep it up
The TX-130 fighter tank was first introduced in the young Boba Fett novel and the 2002 Clone Wars Video game prior to the original Battlefront and Battlefront II.
I always looked at the T2B as more of a APC rather than a tank just because it has always been my belief that it was more effective in mechifinzed infantry rolls
Hey Eckhardt, you should consider doing some comparison videos with the factions from the Starcraft universe, I feel like there could be some really cool matchups, like the Terran military vs the empire or UNSC, especially since while the Terran's would be at a numbers disadvantage the basic marine is essentially a nerfed Space Marine from Warhammer 40k. And the Protoss would be cool to look at because while they would really suffer a numbers disadvantage I don't think there is a single faction you've talked about so far that even approaches their level of technological advancement. Anyways just thought you might find the idea interesting, love the videos and keep on keeping on!
High Templar(Starcraft) vs Jedi/Sith Hyperion(Starcraft) vs Admiral Ackbar’s Home One/The Raddus Raynor's Raiders(Starcraft) vs Resistance Terran Dominion(Starcraft) vs Galactic Republic/New Republic Spear of Adun(Starcraft) vs Snoke’s Mega Star Destroyer Protoss(Starcraft) vs Covenant Zerg (Starcraft) vs Empire Protoss(Starcraft) vs CIS United Koprulu Sector(Starcraft) vs United Star Wars Galaxy 88th try. I WILL NEVER GIVE UP!
I think the AAT, and maybe the Sabre, could serve as good basis for a cheap ground vehicle, being able to be modified for your needs with minimal additions, like changing the turret to fit a lighter variant of a massdriver, as mounted on the AT-TE, or an assault gun variant, with an extended back section, and a forward mounted heavy cannon, to bust open fortifications or large formation, and two rear and sides covering independent turrets to fend of infantry and light vehicles.
Hyperspace suicide runs aside, from what I'm aware the Supremacy is primary a command center and mobile shipyard/manufacturing area, while the Viscount was designed specifically to counter other star dreadnoughts like the Executor-class. Shittons of turbolasers, ion cannons, armor, and Mon Cal shielding. So just one Viscount would probably win against the Supremacy.
That's more of a troop/cargo transport than a tank. It might be faster than the Occupier Tank Eckhart's went with, but it's weapons are very limited. The Empire would still probably be in last place with either choice.
I really love the AAT. As a military enthusiast and historian (in training) what always annoyed me was the use of the casemate style of vehicle (no turret). Not only does this create blind spots on over 75% of the vehicle but it makes it almost useless in urban combat. The amount of weapons is useless if they can only be used to engage one target at a time. What you really want is to place the weapons in such a way that they can engage multiple targets at different angles at once. Also, it is very possible that the AAT's anti personnel guns can swivel 360 degrees and fire on targets to the rear. Another thing that annoys me is that they do not make use of remote control turrets like we have today. You don't need someone sitting outside the tank when you could simply rig up a remote firing system to the gun.
I just thought of this, the AAT's shell launchers can't be aimed independently right? But the shells can still be fired in an arc if the entire tank is angled upward, which it can do because it hovers.
As a Republic lover, I am putting Republic Hover Tank on the first spot. The design looks neat. It's small but quite fast and it has got two powerful cannons. Sure, the armour is not strong but I still love it. AAT is good too but what I don't like on it is that the turrent can't go down fully. Sure, it can take out starfighters but ground forces, not much. At least in the close encounter.

What if the Republic had a standing army at the beginning of the Clone Wars like it had in the old republic days?
CC-2224 Commander Cody
The clone war would be a different outcome
Tim Bartsch wonder how Palpatines plan would change?
CC-2224 Commander Cody
It would back fire meaning Order 66 wouldn't happen and the Jedi would survive
lol if it had the same units and armor and weapons as in the old republic then the CIS would have been screwed, like cmon the old republic seems to do literally everything better than the clone wars republic, even the Jedi were better, and the enemies were way better.
Thyre Radim agreed
Anyone remember the old vehicles only Clone Wars game that let you drive all these tanks and more, as well as a few missions in campaign that was on the ground or in the air?
5:45 "Armored Assault Transport" come on Eckharts, you almost got it right!
The T2B was crazy quick though. Instead of a rear laser cannon on the Separatist tank I’d put a way to deploy mines.
Fancy that the AAT is also my favorite hovertank as well
Once again, the CIS prove to have some brilliant designs. I love the bastards.
Just wondering, please can you do some stuff about the Old Republic? Like, old, old Republic. 400 bby or before, maybe?
You choose. Please like and comment a number. Thank you 🙂
1) StarCraft vs Halo. Can Reach survive a Zerg invasion.
2) 2 Harrower Dreadnaughts vs 1 Imperial Star Destroyer
3) Factions Compared Best Military Commander
4) Behemoth Battlecruiser vs Venator Star Destroyer
5) Top 5 Imperial commanders from canon
The Tank at 3:09 is also in a Star Wars video game called Clone Wars (2002) In the middle of the booklet was a diagram of the tank.
Another great video, good job. Also a bit of advice for your next factions compared recap episode, you should avarage each faction based on how many episodes they've been in so you can include more episodes even if they don't include the 4 main faction's.
The rouge 1 tank could be a great chassis to build a large variety of units.
Light artilary, Medium tank, tank destroyer, AAA, etc
YES THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH ECKHART. BEEN ASKING FOR A WHILE
Perfect! Totally what I was looking for. Thank you for making this.
best speeder ex barc, stap, 74 z, ect
X-83 Twintail vs. Tie Defender (the Legends version)
2 years later he made this vid
That game is the first appearance of the Saber, too. Neat little title I got with my first xbox.
Everybody gangsta until the yanks start hovering
Thank you for finally doing this Eck
The Republic's TX-130 tank was also used in the Star Wars: Clone Wars video game on Playstation 2 and the original Xbox, if I'm remembering that correctly. Easily one of my favorite tanks.
Nebula class vs. Resurgent class
Great video, keep them coming please, I love watching star wars videos like this.
You know it's a good video when the first frame is from the original star wars battlefront 2
Now that you have done a video on which faction has the best corvette you should do a video on which faction has the best frigate.
What about the imperial 1-H, 1-L or 1-M hovertanks? these are legends but were porbably the coolest imperial hovertanks
Wasnt the t4b in battlefront renegade squadron aswell?
Your awesome love you vids, keep up the good work :)
*you're
FTFY
I love the occupier, such a great looking design.
Eck you are doing really original ideas 👍🏻
my fav is the Republic Fighter Tank.
always is, always will be.
the other tanks aren't bad, as well.
Here's what you should do, EckhartsLadder.
*1. Imperial II Star Destroyer (Star Wars) vs Lucrehulk-class Droid Control Ship (Star Wars)*
*2. Imperial II Star Destroyer (Star Wars) vs Romulan D'deridex-class, B-type Warbird (Star Trek)*
*3. Tempest Shadow (My Little Pony: The Movie) vs Darth Vader (Star Wars)*
*4. Darth Sidious/Palpatine (Star Wars) vs Mewtwo (Pokemon)*
*5. Leatherhead (TMNT 2003) vs Wampa (Star Wars) aka "Could Leatherhead protect Luke against a Wampa?"*
*6. What if Master Splinter (TMNT 2003) was a Jedi?*
Please do these ones.
2:12 That guys private spot got shot xd
10th try (help me out here guys): UNSC Infinity vs the Supremacy, Legends New Republic vs First Order, and Yuuzon Vong vs Clone Wars Republic
Keep them coming beast
Ever since I have really got into Star Wars (at around 8 or 9), I think the AAT was my favorite tank, out of ANY SHOW OR ANYTHING THAT EXISTS/EXISTED, I just LOVE the AAT, the design, the armament, the effectiveness, almost EVERYTHING.
You don't know how much I want to try the AAT in a war thunder/world of tanks style game. The specs are amazing.
You should've used the T3B for the rebels. It was more than a match against most of this list
T4-B or bust
The t3b is a wheeled vehicle.
EckhartsLadder there was a repulsorlift version ,not the t3bh
T2-B instead?
Sorry, T1 I mean't.
the next factions compared video should be : best ground troop carrier
I know this is an old video but the empires 2-M Hover Battle tank would have completely outdone the separatist main Battle tank.
Completely agree. The AAT is my favorite star wars ground vehicle besides the AH6.
501st operator: "Score one for the Separatists, danm."
The Empire has an AAT-type hover tank, which we see in the canon comic firing at a hijacked AT-AT.
I was expecting the AAC-1 speeder tank, I've never heard of this Rebel vehicle, but only its treaded cousin.
Which faction used the most death sticks?
From what I can tell, the AAT was designed to be fielded in large set piece battles in lines or in close spaces where it can funnel enemies in front of it, therefore negating its weak spot. Only what I can tell tough
This is the third time I’ve seen this saber tank clip
It seems like the Republic ground forces would mostly be fantastic at blitzkrieg style warfare with the exception of some of the larger walkers.
The New Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels mentions there are AAT variants that were sheilded.
6:46 I have that book, it's awesome
However, what about S-1 Fire Hawk? These were really successful and powerful heavy tanks. And they were not based on Saber-class tank series.
High Templar(Starcraft) vs Jedi/Sith
Hyperion(Starcraft) vs Admiral Ackbar’s Home One/The Raddus
Raynor's Raiders(Starcraft) vs Resistance
Terran Dominion(Starcraft) vs Galactic Republic/New Republic
Spear of Adun(Starcraft) vs Snoke’s Mega Star Destroyer
Protoss(Starcraft) vs Covenant
Zerg (Starcraft) vs Empire
Protoss(Starcraft) vs CIS
United Koprulu Sector(Starcraft) vs United Star Wars Galaxy
88th try.
2 viscount stardefenders vs the supremacy
Darth Revan one viscount makes a suicide lightspeed jump and destroys the Supremacy
Sheev Palpatine ouch. Tlj really ruined space battles in star wars because now you can just say “suicide jump to lightspeed ecks dee”
RC -1138 yeah that's true
Softis Neleris ouch
What about the tank sort of thing in season 1 of Rebels
Eckhartladder, why didn't you use the 2-M hover tank for imperial forces? They are kinda good and rocket resistant.
The Empire has two horses in that race
well, the Republic TX-130 is nice and all, but what about the droid attack in the Wookies?
As a Republic lover, I am putting Republic Hover Tank on the first spot. The design looks neat. It's small but quite fast and it has got two powerful cannons. Sure, the armour is not strong but I still love it. AAT is good too but what I don't like on it is that the turrent can't go down fully. Sure, it can take out starfighters but ground forces, not much. At least in the close encounter.
