The powered steering can be a bit fiddly. I have a Golf V from 03 that came with a botched rack when I bought it. Pulled an identical rack from another VW and put it in my MkV. Didn't get any codes anymore but the powered steering wasn't working. I disconnected the battery for a few minutes, reconnected, started the engine with the steering wheel in the middle, turned all the way to the right (hold for a few seconds), all the way to the left (hold), then back to the center. Afterwards you have to drive in a straight line for a short distance (slower than 20 km/h). I followed all these steps and suddenly my powered steering came on. There is an article describing this procedure on the Ross-Tech Wiki called VW Golf (1K) Steering Assist. Hope it helps the issue.
and welcome back to our 11th video for this piece of shit that is unfixable. Stay tune for 110th video. This Chanel will never run out video material to shot.
Sarcasm , you do realise that if the previous owners actually took care of the car the way they're supposed to it wouldn't be in this position, americans love neglecting their cars for no apparent reason it's one thing to be able to buy a car but to be able to afford everything that goes with it is another thing you people are the literal reason why the majority of cars get bad reputations
@@KingChadKennedy maybe americans would take better care of their cars if german automakers didn't rape them everytime they took it in for service. food for thought.

So glad you put some proper wheels on it. I don't know why, but every car I see with wide/stretched wheels sticking out past the body instantly screams "POS" and this video series helps proves my point.
Nice touch leaving the lug bolt off the front wheel for the low shot - no reason to get people thinking this is to any real point of being finished yet! 😂 Loving the videos and contrast with the orange R32 build by Charles. Not sure if they are encouraging me to pick up a cheap R32 or Discouraging me to do so but at least they are entertaining.
These sound so good with an exhaust. This video just goes to show that you should spend the money up front for the best car you can. Of course that doesn't make nearly as good of a video....
100% correct. A regular person should always spend the money to buy the best version of a car you can. If you paid a shop to do what we have done to this car it would be obnoxiously expensive.
Indy 500s are not the best but still really good. They used to be way cheaper but they're still a good value. They look super cool, have great feedback without being to harsh and the grip level in the rain barely drops off at all.
I had a buddy who ran those on his nismo sentra that was at 240whp and he said it spun 2nd. He then got a Focus ST and put General Gmax RS’ on that and was dead hooking first
I never felt so sketched out in the rain on any other tire than Indy's. Maybe its just california rain? I had less of an issue with Falken 615k+s on the other hand until they were starting to bald out
$700 for 4 tires , Florida weather, ive been using them for years. stage 2 gti. perfect match. why spend more? the gti only does so much... i remember when they were $99 each!
Always interesting to see what kind of oddball stuff one can find on a car. Those Philips screws are hilarious. It begs the question though...Paul seemed a bit angry...would he have enjoyed working on CIS rather than dealing with these DSG issues 😅. Great episode as always!
I saw your previous video. A bolt that can puncture the water jacket is a serious design flaw. Not a normal VW problem. But love the VR6. Sorry I missed that era.
Keep up the good work! Its always a joy watching your videos. Entertaining and educational at the same time, with or without Charles. You guys are cool faces! Wish you all the best, greetings from Hungary!
Those tyres are the Bridgestone RE002 that have been out worldwide for ages, rebranded to sell as Firestones and Indy's in new markets as a budget performance tyre (originally launched in 2011)
I had an issue with my R32 power steering just after dropping the front sub frame, almost purchased a second hand rack but decided to investigate further, I think your rack/s will have the same issue. 1 Research I done indicate that each model Golf runs a slightly different program for the power steering module and only VW can program them so best to stick with the original rack if you can. 2. The Golf MK5 racks were dodgy, most were replaced by VW under warranty. 3. Some or all of the replacement racks they used were originally intended for MK6 cars (You can easily check as the replacement racks had 1 less mounting bolt, so there is an unused hole in the sub frame when a MK6 rack is fitted. 4. The Mk6 rack had a different plug, so the MK 5 plug was spliced into the Mk6 rack. 5. On my car they had simply twisted the wires together and then used insulation tape. 6. Water gets into these poor joins and corrodes the wires. 7. Disturbing the rack disturbs the joins and then no connection (As in my case after dropping the sub frame on my car). 8. Either check the wiring for continuity or bulges where joins were made. 9. Redo the joins (You may have to add some additional wire as the moisture/corrosion could have worked its way along the wiring. Solder the joins and then silicon and heat shrink for longevity. Good luck with the build. For some reason R32's get under the skin more then any other car!

lol, calling Indy 500's the new hotness... I've been running them on my BMW's since like 2017, back when they were actually dirt cheap. If you can only have one set of tires to do it all, they're a great all-arounder. They look aggressive, have good dry and wet grip, last a decently long time, don't seem to care about camber or aggressive alignments, and they're quiet enough. That being said, they overheat and get greasy pretty quickly at the track, so I've switched to having dedicated track wheels/tires and a quieter, more comfortable street tire setup.

Mk 5 chassis has aged really well. Still looks really good
Yes, but, r32 mk4 looks better
As does the mk6. And Mk3… And Mk1, 2, 7, and 8 😆
I say this as a former Mk5 R32 owner. I absolutely adored that car, but they’re not pretty imo, lol
except the price...you can buy 2 mk5s for one mk4 r32 lol@@phyll24
Mk6 combines both. Old and New
Selling my MK5 Rabbit was the biggest automotive mistake I have ever made.
