At the height of my drinking days, I used to get acid re-flux every night badly! And I ended up inhaling it sometimes while sleeping on my back and then having to cough it up painfully out of my esophagus and lungs for hours! Baking soda is a true God-send! What I did was mix a tsp of baking soda with a bit of water(like 3 to 5 tsp water) in a cup so it was sort of strong and I would take a small gulp and feel it fizzing on its way down my throat and a minute later I would be burping up CO2 bubbles! Heartburn completely gone! I found that I could go a few days without the heartburn even! Tums or Rolaids has nothing on baking soda! Just try not to use it all the time because it is *sodium* bicarbonate, after all!

Don't put vinegar on anything you want to get a stain out of. Vinegar sets color like when you dye Easter eggs or use clothing dye on fabrics. To get out stains, use cold water and very diluted blue Dawn dish soap, not warm or hot water. Room temperature water is fine too.

I had these very weird stomach pains when i was a kid, it felt like two objects were colliding in my my stomach, the only thing that would eliminate the pain momentarily was sitting in a warm tub but then it would come back as soon as I got out. For about a week or so, I couldn't really eat, i was walking hunched over cause the pain was so bad. I went to the hospital but they couldn't figure out what was going on with me, they concluded that it was either gas in my stomach or I was kidding around haha. At the end of the week my grandma came to the house to take care of us while my parents went out and noticed the I was walking hunched and was in pain, she asked me what was wrong, I told her what was going on and she told me to wait up while she got me something to drink. She gave me a glass of water and told me to drink up and about a half an hour later the pain went away. I asked her what she did and she said she mixed baking soda with water hahah. Thank God for my grandma.

I used the baking soda on a mattress that had body stains because the person who had been sleeping in it let the covers and mattress cover slide off. I vacuumed it well and placed the baking soda all over with more on the worse soiled area. I let it sit week. When I vacuumed it off everything came off and the mattress smelled great. I did use my upholstery tool of my carpet cleaner and cleaned it anyway. But it really did an amazing job. Now I do just the baking soda every other month to keep my mattress refreshed and clean.

I also used for degreasing dishes. I add a little to a greasy pan or baking tray and then rinse it together with dish soap and scrub it. That helps get rid of all that grease better.
Also, for cleaning the sink or for just pouring it down the drain instead of expensive cleaners, it can be good to take care of smells and blockages.

The basic ingredient of baking soda is trona which is mined in 5 mines in southwestern Wyoming. The mine employees never have hangovers because they inhale baking soda fumes continuously while at work. The mines are huge and about 400 feet deep and the temperature is always around 70 degrees even if there's a howling blizzard on the surface. Trona is also used to make glass so no one is allowed to plastic or aluminum containers on site. I know because I've been there. Pretty cool. There are other trona mines in the world - Russia and So. Africa but Wyoming is by far the biggest in the world.

Wait, what? You put baking soda on *your* face and it makes *my* skin glow? I'm sorry, that's 'action at a distance' and while at the subatomic level, it might fly, this is _TH-cam_ , and... my skin is not glowing.

Glynn Creech it's better to use that than some of the creams that you can't even pronounce the name of the ingredients. Yes baking soda does give your face a glow. It is a great exfoliate for the skin. Also if you put some in your bath water your skin will be as soft as a babies. I use it quite often.

I take a level tea spoon of Baking Soda in half a glass of tepid water, first thing in the morning and last thing at night. This helps to provide the body with a good balance between acidic and alkaline in the gut which assists the body in preventing a multitude of potential ailments. I used to get a cold every year but haven't had one in the 5 years I've been using Baking Soda so highly recommend it to all.

I knew about using baking soda as a toothpaste, but I had no idea that there were other uses. Oh, I know of one you didn't use and that was as a water softener in an above ground pool it helps the clorene work better. We have one and that is what we used it for last summer.

Robert Holloway you can but it only cleans the upper part of the drain. I just put baking soda in by itself let it stand for a few hours then I will pour water down to clean out the drain and get rid of odors.

@Bob Bobbertson I think it's pretty mild. 5% vinegar diluted by water + baking soda every couple of months won't harm anything. Just loosens any gunk and rinsed away.

Use soda crystals (not the same as bicarb, but is a clear or white soft "salt") to soften hard water. It'll make your soap go further (washing up liquid, etc - a big help if you have to soak off burnt-on food from a baking tray or other cooking dish), and a scoop or so in with your laundry powder helps with the cleaning and helps delay the onset of limescale deposits. In the UK it costs somewhere around £1:10 per kilo, so it's top value. If you are in a hard water area, it'll save you a fair bit of money in the long run, even if it's on using less washing powders or liquids (a tablespoon of it will easily help a sink full of really dirty dishes). HTH

I actually use baking soda & vinegar to clean stains out of coffee cups. I use it in my clogged drain with vinegar too. Still needed to snake it but now its cleared keeping it cleared & kitchen sink smells better too. Also sprinkle it on my linoleum over where my elderly doggie has peed. Pour the white vinegar on that & scrub. Linoleum back to looking new as it was a few years ago. It is very useful

Vinegar is also amazing as a cleaning agent. It can get rid of cigarette smell on fabrics. I learned that from a fellow doll collector who worked in a hotel. Hotels use vinegar to get the cigarette smell out of linens, and I've used that trick on dolls that came from the secondary market with strong cigarette smell. Around half an hour of time soaking in vinegar gets rid of smells that have been in the doll's fabric for 30+ years.

Agreed!! I had visitors in my home and when they left there was just a lot of perfume I needed to get out of the room, so I stripped the bedding etc. but to freshen the room I also sprayed vinegar on the mattress and even put some in the load of laundry along with the detergent, worked like a charm!

Baking soda is a alkali, vinegar is a acid. Putting them together neutralizes the benefits.
We should first apply or spray baking soda and after some time spray vinegar. The frothing reaction at the desired site will give better results.

I love using baking soda. The only thing that I wonder about that's in this video is whether its true or not that using it dry is non-toxic when used on furniture and mattresses. I read somewhere that if used dry it was toxic, and would appreciate any feedback on this.

Brenda Douglas baking soda is made out of soda ash. Soda is made out of trona. Trona capital of the world is green river Wyoming. Soda ash is shipped all over the world. It is use to make glass, all kinds of cleaning supplies. There are 5 trona plants, all use to be American owned. Now the are all foreign own. They mine trona under ground, bring it to top side and refine it into soda ash. That is what baking soda is... work clothes and car normal have soda ash on them that you don’t need soap. China buys a lot of soda ash... short version...

You can also use it if you have a clogged drain. Empty out any standing water. I put in about half a box and then pour inabout half a cup of vinegar. I leave it for about half an hour to 45 mins then pour hot water down the drain. Repeat if necessary.
