I am currently on a 12 years old ~MAcBook and it works fine, obviously with a second screen and 20 tabs open and running a local server and testing code, sometimes it hangs for a couple of seconds, otherwise it's still doable if you keep the amount of programs opened on the minimum, but I am going to get an i9 8 cores with 32gb and the 5500 gpu, might not be as fast as the M1, but I am picking it up for less than a grand, so all in all it's a bargain, the it's the 1 TB, a bigger spec would be 64GB and 8TB, but it was some 6 grands, I don't want 8TB of data in tame place anyway.

Late to the party but anyways.. I think some people are mixing up the 15inch version and the 16inch version. The 15 inch was known to have thermal issues, especially with the i9. These issues were addressed and fixed with the 16inch model with 30% more cooling. Fans were enlarged and made mostly of metal. Several other things were done to help including a return to the older style keyboard etc. Other than the 2015 macbook pro, the 2019 16inch macbook pro is arguably one of the best macbooks apple has ever made, even in 2023.

Got this used for live music and music production. Lots of people suggested getting M1/M2, but even at the end of 2022 and most likely well into next year, there are LOADS of VSTs that are only x86. So if you shell out for M1 or M2, you'll need to run everything including your music app in Rosetta anyway in order to use the plugins and you'll probably get a smaller screen, less RAM and have to pay an extra $1k.

    • @mohaawwkk

I got mine MacBook Pro 2019 with 16 inch display yesterday and I am very happy I made that choice.
Past few years I have tried out several MacBook Pro versions such 2015, 2018 and 2021 with M1 chip and all were with 13inch display. I used it for programming and work mostly and sometimes for browsing or to watch movies..
I decided to replace my private laptop, the 17 inch Dell with another faster machine and I found this one online, it is MacBook Pro 2019 with 16 inch display, 16GB of RAM, Intel i7 with 6 cores CPU, the battery had only 20 charge cycles, so I am decided to buy it and I am very happy with my choice.
16 inch display is just awesome, I though it will be way too big, but actually 16 inch Mac is compact and I cant even think of going back to 13 inch models back without external monitor, this one is just amazing, it's exactly what I need.
Also before this 2019 Mac version I have used M1 Pro and I was not impressed with M1 at all, nothing special in my opinion, Intel is still a thing in my opinion.
I would recommend this Mac for any kind of work, and maybe for casual gaming, it's good machine.

It's the last good option for using BOOTCAMP or stable native t2linux. M1/M2 will get Linux support eventually, but there current options are very experimental. I picked this model, despite not having the option to enjoy the nice battery performance of the new models, this one is still solid. The software and OS options were more important to me. Don't care software support will run out, if you can run Linux eventually.

I got a pretty maxed 2019 15". Someone upgraded everything to the max aside from storage which was left stock at 512gb. I love it! It's so powerful for my needs and can easily run safari with over 30 tabs open of TH-cam, discord, calendar and several other apps as I need. Battery is quite worn but still works. I can get over 5 hours of TH-cam. Right now I get lower (Like 1-2 hours) as I have the laptop set to use the Radeon graphics right now as it is needed for another app running a DVD drive plus my hoard of safari tabs lol. This laptop plus my recently upgraded 2019 iMac suits me perfectly! I don't need the latest M1, M2 or M3's just for what I do. Plus even though I hate windows, I still am not quite ready to give up the ability to boot into it. These older laptops are great for most people even today! If all you need is to browse the web and some minor stuff like word documents then these are way better, because they can be had for way cheaper!

Stumbled across this video, as I just just switched on my 2019 Macbook 16".. I do own a M1 Pro 14", which is a nice machine, very nice, powerful, silent und long lasting.. But still I use my 16" Intel Mac often. Normal use (Affinity, Adobe Vectorart)) it's not slower than the newer one, though less runningtime on battery. BUT: I can bootcamp, meaning I can play some game when I want to.. I love the M1 machine, but I miss the ability to bootcamp much..

My machine has been suffering kernel panics because of the overheating, Apple refuse to acknowledge it's a manufacturers fault. The 5600m doesn't suffer from any of these problems, this is a known and common issue among the 5500m and below. I'd also advise 32gb of RAM rather than 16 - with all the processes hogging the memory in the background I'm often left with an average of 4-6GB of ram to play with, not nearly enough. All in all, given I paid £2300 at the time (it was a good deal considering it was ticketed at £2600) this purchase has made me seriously consider never buying an apple product again.

Is my rack of muffins (from 5 minutes ago) still a good rack of muffins now in the future that is the present?
I dont understand how 3 years is enough time to even ask this question

Hi, is there any keyboard issues like previous models had ? Thanks

This model DOES NOT use the problematic butterfly keyboard. So no, you shouldn't have any keyboard issues.

I'm agree with you 99% except about a touch pad. It is a nightmare to use it. Not intuitive, it registers wrong touches, too big and that haptig engine is a face palm in a laptop. Imho

If you have a apple phone get a MacBook. Great for being productive plus you can use your phone for the webcam now. I have this MacBook and if I need to use windows os I open parallel desktop(emulator) so you have the best of both worlds,

If you need a large screen on the go and use it for light duties then I'd say is perfect choice. But if you plan on using it for work or serious use then I might say get the M1 Macbook Air 13" and buy a monitor to hook up to it.

I purchased my laptop from a Best Buy reseller (i7, 5300M, 16GB, 1TB SSD) and it was an absolute HORRIBLE choice, the laptop itself is amazing, the screen is nice and spacious, the keyboard and trackpad are awesome, I love the Touch Bar and the speakers are incomparable to any other laptop. Luckily my unit doesn't really get too hot and the fan noise is a treat compared to any other gaming laptop. The thing that pushed me to ask for a refund was the horrible laggy and sluggish animations, everything takes forever to open(compared to my 2020 Alienware laptop with an i5 11th gen) and there are these "skips" every 10 seconds or so that ruin the experience, Mac OS is supposed to be fluid and fast but with this laptop it is absolutely unusable if you have used any modern windows or m1 laptops. I even tried reinstalling the entire OS but the lag is still very persistent as well as the "skips", especially when using the trackpad. If you want a FAST and RELIABLE laptop, DO NOT get this laptop, NO MATTER HOW CHEAP IT IS. Do yourself a favour and get a refurbished m1/m2 air/pro.
It's such a shame that such a nice machine gets killed by Apple just to make the newer laptops seem better, I can't believe that when I installed Bootcamp, Windows 10 feels SMOOTHER than Monterey OS(which is the default OS!!). LET THAT SINK IN!
Scrolling through the comment section on YT, waiting for basic websites to load like FB, Reddit, Twitter, Best Buy AND SWITCHING TABS ON CHROME WITH JUST 3 TABS OPEN takes FOREVER.
Edit: the fingerprint scanner takes a solid 3-5 seconds to work every time and is NOT immediate

I have the 14" Pro now, but I had the same MacBook Pro as you with upgraded specs (i9 and 32GB RAM). I had it repaired multiple times by Apple, to the point I got a full refund. The machine had a CPU temp sensor fail and a ton of other issues. The thermals going crazy and the machine performing horribly was not uncommon.

you are missing the main problem with that laptop.
    it sucks.
    the performance is shit.
    and the heat is ridiculous.
apple made the right move ditching intel.
in fact, intel is still selling that same 10nm chip.
    now call the 13....
