Gilmour is the only guitarist I've ever seen who can make a crown erupt with applause by playing only a couple of notes. This is what separates him from the rest in my eyes.
Claptons great, but I saw both live multiple times, and without a doubt, Gilmour tops him. Maybe skill wise their similiar, but feeling, yeah it’s not close
I've seen unknown guitar player playing 1st notes of songs and get applause. I'm a Gilmore fan and I've attracted attention just playing the 1st part of "Wish you were here " And other songs. Does that make me a amazing guitar player. I wish.
It takes a real man to go up on stage and play his heart out alone knowing he once had people to play with. Rest in peace all fallen members of Pink Floyd, you all have brought great music to the past generations and future alike. Pink Floyd is a one of a kind band, no one can say different.
David ..... I know you doing your best to play it alone ..... every time I see you play alone my eyes just drop a tears for the others whom passed away .... thank you Pink Floyd for every piece of music you created ..... and thanks Dived for keeping playing it ...
I'm really sad coz I never attended any of their live events and I just feel like I lost a big part of my life ... any way thanks God that I can listen to them any time I want ......
Jacob Crowell Indeed..Absolutely No One But David Gilmour Would Dare Attempt This Song. Who Else But The Master ...And He Mastered It Of Course. ...RIP Syd Barrett....
Just found out a bit ago that my uncle passed away yesterday. He was the cause of many of my influences today, including Pink Floyd. He was certainly one of a kind...this song is for him today. I am going to miss him and his uniqueness so very much. :*(
+Dawn Welch I'm sorry to hear about your loss, I hope the angelic music of David Gilmour can console you on this sad day. Your uncle sounds like a wonderful man for giving you such positive influences x
+Stuart Haw Oh gosh, yes...I first heard of Pink Floyd when "The Dark Side of the Moon" came out in 1973...I was probably not even 5 yet and I remember seeing the iconic album cover at his house! LOTS of rock at his house (which is now classic, I suppose), like Elton John, Supertramp, Queen... He was also a classic car rebuilder, mostly with the 50's Crown Victorias and such. Talented and beautiful work. I also watched my first Vincent Price movie at his house ("The Raven") and he was into Star Wars, comic books, Halloween, old-school monster flicks,...he was so laid-back and lots of fun! Back in 1975, he took his son (my cousin), my younger brother, and myself to the drive-in to see "Jaws" when it first came out back in 1975. I was 6 years old then...and have been a HUGE shark lover/fan ever since! The things I've mentioned are the things I love and appreciate so much today because of my uncle. My cousin/his son had just held a wonderful party just this past March 5th - we knew time was short (had been diagnosed with ALS just last year), but not this short. We didn't know less than 2 weeks later he'd be gone. There was no way I was going to miss that party! I had hand-written him a 4 1/2 page note telling him how much he meant to me. I got to read it to him and...even though he had lost his ability to speak, I could understand everything. I could tell my uncle remembered EVERYTHING I mentioned in the letter, even though we had not seen each other in ages (his cousin lives closer to me). I got to hug him lots. I got to tell him how much I loved him...but there will always be one more chance I will never get. I am so glad I have no regrets. I am so glad I did not miss that party. One word I described my uncle with in my letter to him? #LEGENDARY Sorry I've written so long...I'm really feeling for my cousin and his family so much now. I look to my cousin to see how awesome his father is, because he is just like his dad. Thanks for listening today...and for your kind words. EDIT: And by golly, I've been cranking out the David Gilmour/Pink Floyd and any other classic rock I can today...Gilmour is the freakin' BEST.
LOVE the few seconds at 1:46 to 1:50 when he smiles. What an awesome feeling it must be to acknowledge that yes, at these moments in time you are, by far, the coolest guy in the room.
I'm still a man if Pink Floyd's music brings tears to my eyes right? Not all of it of course. Just songs like this one, High Hopes, Marooned, Echoes, to name a few.
You're not alone with that my man:) I love all of those songs too. Marooned is incredible, one of my favorites but it's so hard to pick just one. I was blessed enough to see PF in 1993 ( Division Bell Tour). I'll never forget it.
sherp2u1 I agree with that. His effects were used to enhance the songs and to be creative... not to cover for lack of vocal skills etc. Pink Floyd is reknown for using a ton of effects, but yeah, not to compensate for lack of skill.
Every time I see David play I'm reminded that what is on my Floyd records isn't done with studio tricks, but with extreme talent. I am always pleased that he plays what I want to hear from the record, live.
at 1:48 the guy who shouted for him better be happy for the rest of his life he made david gilmour smile i probably wouldve cried the whole night just love Pink Floyd that much ✊✊💯
So annoying! Was at a festival a week ago and the people there were more concerned with taking the perfect selfie next to the exhibits rather than actually being in the moment enjoying the event and allowing others to enjoy it as well. All for a picture that fulfills the egocentric nature of that person. Are they going to frame any of them and put them on a wall in their home? In all likelihood they will wind up lost forever when their silly little phone dies, just like the moments they ruined while taking them.
It looks as if this is part of the mind control programs. Paying attention to how people spend their time; t.v./movies, reading/improvement, etc., etc. Seems to me if people are identifying with t.v. characters, they become them to a certain degree; mind control.
+ominousinc Yes! How true! I attended a concert by Brit Floyd (by the way The Best Tribute Band out there)...in Cincinnati @ The Taft Theatre this year. Idiots were getting up and going out to grab a beer & cigarettes....walking In front of our seats...Obviously not there to ENJOY THE SHOW! HELLO!
What a genius. Even now, in 2016 he sounds and plays like he always did. David Gilmour - a very nice person and one of the most talented musicians ever in popular music.
There's a saxophone in my soul. I was forced to stop playing because it took up too much room on the crowded bus to school where I was far ahead of all the other students and the teacher told me I had a natural ability and should keep playing. It was as if they removed part of my body and silenced my voice. I repressed those memories for decades but I'm going to find a sax at a pawn shop or online somewhere and start over. I'm 68 and I'm starting my life again, finally getting back surgery to give me my life back, but I mean ALL of it. I started playing my guitar again and I will find a tenor sax this time. I played alto when I was 12 but I have a bass voice and a different sax fits me now.
Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun Shine on you crazy diamond Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky Shine on you crazy diamond You were caught in the crossfire of childhood and stardom Blown on the steel breeze Come on, you target for faraway laughter Come on, you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon Shine on you crazy diamond Threatened by shadows at night and exposed in the light Shine on you crazy diamond Well, you wore out your welcome with random precision Rode on the steel breeze Come on, you raver, you seer of visions Come on, you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine
Love the pedal work. That in combo with his awesome guitar playing are a synergy of virtuosic excellence. there is no substitution for outstanding musicianship and he is the top of his craft.

As National Institutes of Health explained "Overweight and obesity may increase the risk of many health problems" - www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/weight-management/health-risks-overweight I suppose Wes was just concerned in that regards. we all want David to stay in good health.

You are correct pal, there's nothing else like pink Floyd and there will never be anything close, absolutely amazing 🤩
David Gilmore is what made Pink Floyd great.
Respect. These guys make this planet liveable.

What an insane song to tackle on your own. That's why Dave's one of the best

Jacob Crowell absolutely
An old black t shirt , old jeans , old song but can gear a pin drop in that audience
Absolute genius 👏
I'm an old man, and for me thats the best, kudos!
And he made millions

I am sure that he does not think that at all. It is actually humility that makes a real artist, and that is what he is.

Man, a man that don't cry is not a man
I'm sorry we all get old but you are still GREAT
& your music will live on forever... Thank you Sir...
From a guitarist perspective, this was also a great lesson to play "Shine on...". Most vids avoid showing the fretwork. This is perfect!
I believe David is one of the cleanest playing guitarists. Absolutely brilliant.
This song is part of this mans soul.
One man and a guitar, thats all it takes to swoon a generation!
and lots of effects pedals...
Gregory Holston Jajajajajajja
Ok, some special effects but the music is still pure, uncontaminated by todays voice over, backing tracks lipsynching crap!
sherp2u1 I agree with that. His effects were used to enhance the songs and to be creative... not to cover for lack of vocal skills etc. Pink Floyd is reknown for using a ton of effects, but yeah, not to compensate for lack of skill.
Thanks Gregg, I thought I was hallucinating for a while there. ...

qui-et . Sound it out, then spell qui-et
I am quite nice most of the time, but sometimes I clap clap clap.
....it´s like good sex, sometimes it is to good to be f***in´quite, to awesome, to good to be quite....
God forbid a rock'n'roll masterpiece provokes an outward emotional reaction
Sometimes you cannot help but clap when you hear one of your favorite tunes :)
at 1:48 the guy who shouted for him better be happy for the rest of his life he made david gilmour smile i probably wouldve cried the whole night just love Pink Floyd that much ✊✊💯
Those four notes. They just give you goose pimples.
Hahahaa i love how someone in the audience keeps shushing every time there are cheers and claps
As it should be - really annoying is when people use their cells now to tape & record. Really???? Ugh. Oh well - what ya gonna do.

A note to myself- David Gilmour isn’t a guitarist but a musician
Nessuno al mondo può fare quello che fa lui con questa canzone. A volte sta in bilico su abissi ignoti, ma non cade mai... :-) Grandissimo
Respect! Pink Floyd and David Gilmour are just great. I'll keep listening to their music through thin and thick till I die.

A fitting tribute to the he late great Syd Barrett ,,,,,,,,,,without his visions this song would never exist.....RIP Mr B x
Bless the Piper.
Live acoustic performances are sometimes so very magical...this is an excellent example :-)
Great tribute to the late, original member, Syd Barrett
Greatest Guitar off all time. Jimi can make it squeal. But Dave makes it sing.
Again and again....never get bored watching this.
The fact he can do this on acoustic - my dad RIP defiantly was right about Dave Gilmore
What an extraordinary virtuoso performance by a truly skilled musician!

Esse homem é um gênio mesmo! Conseguiu resumir em dois instrumentos uma música que tem um monte de coisas juntas. Incrível! Gosto das duas versões.
One of God’s greatest gifts, as our lord Davis has been blessed with perfection.🙏🏻
I really wished I could of gone to one of their concerts. I was born in the 90s so im too young to ever see them play again.
Just Perfection in this video.

Wes Davis what does his weight have to do with anything?
apparently it is an issue for Wes, not sure why......
As National Institutes of Health explained "Overweight and obesity may increase the risk of many health problems" - www.niddk.nih.gov/health-information/weight-management/health-risks-overweight
I suppose Wes was just concerned in that regards. we all want David to stay in good health.
